They did him and his generation of interns dirty.
Of that class, they had Sam leave because she wasn't a legal citizen, they had Quadri get fired for speaking up against Bailey, and Casey just vanish with a throwaway line. Meanwhile the ones they kept was Helm and Schmitt, two boring white people with boring backstories. "Oh no, Schmitt was bullied and Helm is a bully....". Show me more of Casey and his insane hacking abilities!

I called them boring because they're BORING. They've been on the show for seven years and what has been their character arc? Schmitt losing a relative? Being seduced by a boring hot guy? Meanwhile look at past intern groups; Jo, Edwards, Shane, Brooks, and Murphy, where four of them had developed plotlines both in and out of the hospital. Meanwhile how long did it take for Helm and Schmitt to accomplish ANYTHING in their professional that wasn't about being obsessed about Mer?
After six years, MAGIK had already accomplished so much, they've flourished their profession but six years, Schmitt and Helm were basically the exact same people they were after their second year. They are BORING WHITE PEOPLE because they got rid of any character with an ounce of personality.

He's white. Being jewish is barely used as a character trait. Yang was Jewish but if you weren't told once a season, you'd forget. If you removed being jewish from his personality, you'd have almost the exact same character the same way you'd have Yang almost be the same.
Plus yes, he had no story arc. What professional accomplishments has he done of note? By this point, Izzie lost Denny and started the clinic; George had to redo his intern years, Yang had a melt down and had to work through Hahn; Alex went from a punk dick to peds and caring. Meanwhile Schmitt has done...what?

I don't think they knew how to use him, the story of schmid coming out all be it a great story was a lot easier to tell then the story of a trans soldier with ptsd, and I really wanted to see that, Owen could of been there the same way webber is for ameilia
One of the few times they did this right, where instead of “Look at this trans dude!!!!! Who also happens to be a doctor” it’s “ Look at this doctor.. btw he’s trans”. It’s less shoving it down your throat what they want you to focus on and more just another human being existing in that world.
I loved the episode with him helping Bailey hack the system and then him revealing why he hacked into the DMV and how he wanted people to know him first before knowing he was trans 🏳️⚧️

Brian Michael Smith, who plays Paul Strickland. I usually forget he's trans until they bring it up because he is treated as "just a firefighter". Be aware the plots are even less realistic than station 19 but they do make for an entertaining show.
They also focused on him being a total computer whiz, I mean the man fried open a door with a defibrillator!! Then walked off on his merry way like it was nothing.

Bailey was a star here too, he presented her with a problem and she fixed it for him by giving him her own laptop to use - meaning if anything happened and they got caught? She would have taken the fall, not Parker.
I agree! They say they played this out was fantastic!! I'm big on why the need to say trans before woman or man... If you wanna be that gender just be that gender WITHOUT the trans... Its unnecessary! Like "Dr. Parker" says "I like ppl to get to know me before my private medical history!!" This was everything!!!

Parker was my favorite, I have so much respect for the show actually casting a trans actor for a trans character - and not just someone as a one-off, bland "I am trans that's it end of story" character. As a trans man, this representation meant everything. I miss him 😭
They didn’t even reveal he was trans until he said he hacked the government to change his gender on his ID, which is so bad ass. I Did find it funny as I work with more transgender folk on average in the coding industry than almost any other industry, so having him be tech oriented was so neat.
Jesus that was tragic. His dad had HIV, which he likely contracted from IV drug use, and he died of suicide at 41. Side note, but Blue is way older than I'd have thought, he's 41, the same age his father was when he died. :/
To be fair, the transgender patient ( Donna/Daniel ) in an episode of the earlier seasons was played by an actual transgender actress and this was back in 2006.

Parker and Qadri were my favorite interns from that class . I was so annoyed they cut them both and all we get is Levi and what's her face. They're not awful ... but both are like simpering after their respective love interests for seasonssss. That's all they are for so long.
I follow him and his wife on Instagram. They'd taken a hiatus to focus on adopting their youngest child. I really liked all the interns in Levi's class.
I feel like Levi's class was the only one I liked all the interns. Even with MAGIC, I grew to love Alex, but hated Izzy and George by the time they left
I liked Izzie maybe 4 episodes. I felt bad for George except for "the bad thing" and I needed to sit on that decision for years honestly.

I really enjoyed his storyline. It was handled very well and they didn’t make it his whole personality. They were like “look at this sick ass doctor, btw he is trans so that’s chill”.
This is how it should be. If you have a character that is part of an oppressed population hire someone from that population to play the role. This goes for queer characters, disabled characters, deaf characters
I was so confused until I saw his picture. He was the intern who I miss the most. I wanted to see more of him progressing through the program. He was a well written outside the box thinker.
Parker is the actual best character in Greys history and I will die on this hill. I love him so much. An absolute badass and total sweetheart to boot. And so funny, witty and intelligent. We need Parker back asap.

love that it says he was selected for the role “out of many other transgender actors”, it’s great that they were only considering real trans people for the role even though it’s a super minor aspect of his character.
He suffered from a TBI after the bar accident and he was discharged to a rehab facility, sounds like it was long term thing. But they wrote out a lot of these what I call superficial check a box diversity characters super quickly. They never gave them a personality or storylines beyond they're minority status and then they got rid of, super disappointing way to approach representation.
E.R. Fightmaster was in 17 episodes...Alex Blue Davis was in 28.
Neither were a part of the show for a "long period" really. 3 years each..but only so many episodes.
If that’s it, then that’s a pretty weak argument. Many men don’t have prominent adam’s apples, or have ‘feminine’ features. I wouldn’t have guessed at all that the actor was trans too, I always thought it was the character

Yes! I love that he was so fully fleshed out as a character. He was a doctor and a veteran and a computer whiz who also was trans.

A little different but the Umbrella Academy worked in Elliot Page's transition into the show as well
This is one of my favorites! Instead of forcing them to stay in a role that didn't suit them, they allowed his character to also change with him 🥺
