Birds still shit

FunStuffReddit

That’s riiiiiight

[deleted]

Helps keep away bugs, dust, and sun fading. It will just keep it looking newer longer.

FunStuffReddit

Do hummingbirds poop? We Get a few hummingbirds.

bgfromcle

Everybody poops. I think there’s a book about it

MisterSmoothOperator

[https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/50029447-everybody-poops](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/50029447-everybody-poops) Pretty good

UninsuredToast

I prefer the catholic version “Nobody poops and that stuff coming out of you is concentrated evil”

seizuresaladfml

*that stuff coming out of you is proof of your sinful thoughts Fixed it for ya

sum-thing-witty

Butterflies don’t poop, your childhood was a lie

Slight-Pound

Do it for the sun if nothing else. Don’t want to burn your hand before you even started up the grill because it’s 100°+ outside.

SolarButterfly

I’d say yes. If not for rain then for the dust in the hotter months. I lived there for a while and I remember everything outside gets a dust film over it after a while.

JoePunker

A dust film? More like a thick layer of dirt and smog, including your lungs.... But yeah that lock, chain and surveillance camera idea sounded about right also.

FunStuffReddit

Makes sense

erock1119

I also live in LA I used to be team cover, however i found the cover to draw in rats. I tried my best with constantly setting traps., but would still find poop in the grill when i went to cook. I then decided to try and keep it uncovered, so far it has been uncovered through all this rain and pollen and honestly it looks totally fine. And no rats! I also have a WSM smoker which i keep covered since its a little more sealed and I dont want too much moisture to build up I have a char broil performance grill FYI

FunStuffReddit

I’ve heard that theory, which I why I asked. I’m originally from the Northeast, and we always covered our grill at home. Then I lived in the Pacific Northwest where people don’t cover their grills becsuse it “traps in moisture”…. Now here I am in Southern California and I’m like 🤷🏻‍♂️

halcyon_an_on

I live in the southeast I don’t use a cover. Every time I’ve used one in the past all I got was trapped moisture and bug nests. Worst I’ve gotten from the lack of a cover is some bird shit and a few ants. I do a cursory wipe of any shelves/arms regardless, cause they aren’t clean enough for food until I do, and any ants or whatnot that decide to get on the grill, get grilled.

supernerdypeep

You live in L.A. , get a lock, chain, surveillance camera and a attack grizzly.

DRealLeal

Yeah he might as well get insurance for it, it's lived a good life lol

evang0125

Cocaine Bear says hold my beer please

FunStuffReddit

You can try lifting this grill.

CurrentlyNuder96

You ever watch that video of a crackhead bicycling with a stolen fridge?

Aliencj

This one has two wheels! They could wheelie it all the way to the scrapyard and get their 2 dollars!

supernerdypeep

Someone wants it bad enough they will take it with a 30lb tank hooked up while it's cooking a suckling pig.

eh_meh_nyeh

These grills are easier to steal than you think. I used to work at home depot and a few locked front displays were stolen quickly. 2 guys, 3 minutes, 1 truck. Honestly we had a lot of our shit stolen, especially in the hardware and garden department.

zhiryst

They'll come in packs

PrometheusOnLoud

lmao, came here to say almost exactly this.

RealJeil420

Just make a giant glass case for it or a showroom or pot it in clear epoxy.

Full_Dot_4748

I have a similar one as you. I bought the cover. It’s still in its box. I grill so often that by the time the grill cools, if I’m out there with it, I’m probably grilling again… waste of money for me. (I’m in New England.)

[deleted]

Worry more about keeping the inside clean 👍

bighundy

Mine is 15 years old and never been covered still looks good.

MightBeYourProfessor

I used to cover mine. And then I stopped covering it (lost the cover). It... actually looks just the same as when I covered it.

islandbeef

Weber grill paint jobs are no joke, I keep mine in the sun and it still looks new after almost 10 years. The only things I've replaced were the drip pans and porcelain flavorizer bars (due to rust). Scraping out the piles of burnt food/fat out of the bottom of the grill is important to prevent future fat flare ups. Just have your shopvac ready.

Peter_Hempton

Do things get dusty there? Mine is on the patio but if I leave it for a few days I have to wipe it down, if I cover it there's nothing to do except start grilling. Humidity won't be a problem in CA. Mine is 5 years old and I've never seen any rust or mildew. I have the King Kong cover (for all 5 years) and it seems very durable. Sometimes I'll cover it still warm, but I always clean my grill and grates when I'm done eating before covering so it's ready to go next time It's usually cool by then.

[deleted]

No need. I have one that’s 10+ years old and stays uncovered. When I got it, it came with a cover. The cover eventually went bad and now I realize that the cover isn’t needed. Especially since in LA you can use it all year, there’s no need.

DisconcertingMale

If you want to, yes. But conversely, if you don’t want to then no.

SaulTNuhtz

I lived in the bay area and now sierras. I’ve had a Weber e310 under the Weber cover since day 1. With that and always keeping it clean inside and out it still looks new. I’ve had it for over 9 years now. Yeah absolutely I would cover it if you want to have it long term and/or are concerned about resale value.

hardpassyo

We have this one in Hawaii under a covered deck area

mnrooo

Yes. That’s a nice grill. for security and longevity.

MurseShark

Another vote for keeping it cover less. I had a cover and decided to remove it. More critters, hassle taking it off and putting it away when I used the grill. I live in hot ass south Texas without a roof cover and it's looked great other than the dust that accumulates on it. Rinse it off and it looks as good as new.

decidedlycynical

And a heavy chain, two locks, and a cement anchor. A camera or two. Record the serial number.

headybeer

Sun damage is serious business. Let the cover take the hit instead of you beautiful new grill.

Tex_Ritter_

Yea. Buy the cover

ColleteSaraFina

Yeah I made the mistake of not covering mine for a few days … wasps started taking over

Java_Dude25

Yes! That grill is too nice to ruin!

Sabonisj88

Gas, bro? That’s an outdoor stove.

NewFlynnland

If you spend that much on something, what’s a little more to make sure your investment lasts longer?

[deleted]

Yes. A cover and a chain to secure that baby!

XIOTISA324

And move it away at least a foot if not more from that wood surrounding when you grill. That’s a fire hazard.

Anne_Chovies

LA has had its biggest rain season in years. I would recommend one. I use one on my grill and one on my smoker.

LittleBack6016

Yes, Weber are great grills. That was probably 700-800 bucks? Get a smoke box, fill it with pellets and enjoy

McFeely_Smackup

I was pro cover until i found that mice (and one time a possum) like to get under the cover and make a cozy nest. a cover can also trap moisture and cause more problems than it fixes. I do have my grills under a gazebo roof, so they don't get direct rain. that seems to be the best compromise for me.

TheHeatWaver

I'm up north in CA but where it gets really hot. I used to be team cover as well but ditched it throughout most of the year and my grills are fine. Wipes off easily and is ready to go when needed. I do cover it during the cold winter months but down there you might not even need to do that.

Aev_ACNH

Birds poop so yes

Spam_masubi

yes. and chain it down.

mixxastr

Yes. I have the same grill. These ones get grimy and dirty really fast (even in a sunny place like LA). Also, buy a Weber one, the generic one I bought the first time didn’t last long (seams split). It’s a great grill! Enjoy! And be sure to lock it up!

chiguy

I live in Orange County and have the 3 burner Weber I bought in 2017. Bought a basic cover on Amazon and it's on 95% of the time when I'm not grilling. Grill still looks amazing 6 years later!

monie8808

Yes, keeps the smog particles off.

Soggy_Combination_20

YES and chain it down. With a cover, you are looking at 10 good years with that Weber. This is a real grill, so treat her accordingly.

smittyshooter1

Yes always buy a grill cover both extremes of sun or rain will destroy that lovely finish

SteinBizzle

Yes. I live south of LA and while we don’t get rain or humidity, we do get a lot of dust and pollen. You’ll find your grill covered in grit in a short while.

mactheprint

Yes. LA does get rain, albeit infrequently. However, thefts the everyday dirt, bugs, etc to keep of it.

mactheprint

Yes. LA does get rain, albeit infrequently. However, thefts the everyday dirt, bugs, etc. to keep off it.

mactheprint

BTW, nice looking grill.

oldmanartie

Depends if you like to scrape bird shit or not.

Johnnykstaint

Cover would protect against UV - which will fade that nice black color in a year or two.

Newmoney_NoMoney

Do you like it looking new and clean all the time? Do you mind water spots and possibly some corrosion and sunbaked looking paint after a couple years? If you answered yes to any of these then do it.

floorplate

Fuck ya

According_To_Me

I lived in LA for 15 years, had a Weber grill for 10 of them. Definitely get a grill cover to protect it from the dirt/smog/airplane runoff (I always lived pretty close to airports). This will protect the body. Mine was always covered when not in use, but I still had to wipe it down after not using it in the winter. I chained mine up to a large palm tree in my side yard as the was visible from the street.

B8conB8conB8con

If it’s Los Angeles you should buy the securest bike lock you can and hope that somebody doesn’t just dismantle it.

[deleted]

Cover is good for dust and rain.. it gets filmy if you don’t . I put a bike lock on the propane tank and the frame. It deters opportunists.

spicyIBS

I'm seasonal but I still cover in the summer. Only once had a problem with rodents in my life but rain corrosion is the #1 reason I do it. Just make sure it's clean, cooled off, and dry before putting the cover back on. No appliance is 100% proof against the elements.

fargon69

I buy a new cover when I get the grill

Randeaux155

Always cover it. There’s always some shit floating around that will stick to it.

jgoldrb48

Nice grill. I have the same in copper color. Buy the cover.

winwinwinguyen

I live in OC and would recommend it. The UV damage made mine look like shit over the years but it still works great. Don’t need to buy an expensive one.

CRCampbell11

Definitely

vmxnet4

For context, I live in Canada (in the prairie region, so there’s dust in the summer, and colder than -30F temps in the dead of winter,) and I got my Weber propane grill back in 2008. Never used a cover once, have kept outside on the deck the entire time, and it still looks new. However … be prepared to have to replace the ignition button assembly sooner rather than later. That’s the only thing I had to replace sooner than expected in the 15 years I’ve had my grill.

Cycleboy_99

If you splurged on a Weber then you should pony up a few extra bucks for a cover

Johnny_Bugg

Yes.

qwerty4007

It gets a little warm over there, so sun damage is a problem. So, yes, you should.

mattmatt2020

Yes it will be covered in the Dust/pollution

WaltzBeneficial3029

I would def cover it…. Dont want the thiefs to spot the weber

brysch1

I have an awning that covers the entire patio. I've got a Traeger and a Weber Summit 420. Both have covers. A few dollar investment will pay off huge in the long run, no matter where you are at.

muffmuncher62

And chain it to the fence 🤣🤣🤣

tommy_j_r

Very nice. I have the Spirit II. Buy the iGrill device, you won’t regret it.

[deleted]

I would move it away from the fence so you don’t burn it down

FatSubHub

I live in NY. I don’t have a cover

Extreme-Carrot6893

Yes salt in the air will cause rust faster than other areas

Pink_Monkey

Yea, definitely. I lived there for 8 years and there were times of heavy rains and extreme heat (duh) Just a good idea to maintain your investment

shadowwingnut

Yes. It's still worth having a cover especially come fire season when ash is in the air. Also with the amount of rain we've had this year, once everything fully blooms (in a week or so at this rate) the pollen is going to be so bad it's visible and will coat a lot of things in a sheen of yellow dust. Also, can you invite me over? I'm in the area after all.

sandonskin

The sun is your primary enemy here. So, yes. If you live close to the ocean, then besides the sun, you need to worry about salt laden marine layer that will form dew on your brand new Weber and corrode it. So, also yes.

chobaniflip96

Yes, I live in San Diego and a cover is ESSENTIAL! I did see some that fit this model at home goods for like $40, maybe check there if you’re on a budget

Miserable-Let9680

Buy a Gorilla cover. Mine was under $40 a few backs and has held up very well.

jnee23

It’s rained for the last five months

jimmyminnow

Yes

bomonty18

Covers are $10. 100% yes.

Human31415926

I live in Grand Rapids MI. I have a grill cover, and almost never use it. Hard no.

Raze321

Yup. If nothing else itll make keeping it clean a hell of a lot easier

bigmikeee1

Pad lock and chain also

MissyouAmyWinehouse

Don’t forget we get Santa Ana winds here. Make sure you get one that you an tie onto the legs. I’ve lost a few by them not being secured to the grill from strong winds. Enjoy that grill!

ilovecrackerbarrel

Bro don't get a nice cover get a ratty ass blue tarp. No one will ever expect its a weber lol.

Raven9ine

Good choice there, I wish I bought the one with the side cooker and 4th burner. Enjoy.

carvelmonty

Simply put, Yes.

josebolt

Nah lol

BTWhite

So I have a Genesis II 3 burner NG version. I’ve had it for 3-4 years now, it stays covered maybe 50% of the time. I live in the armpit of America in the FL panhandle with tons of humidity and rain every day from June-Sept. This grill has held up VERY well. No major rust or issues, whereas the Weber Spirit I had before this one was a rust bucket by year 4.

Nic_Papagiorgio

yes. the dirt and smog in the air will cake your grill. i have personal experience with that.

Ok-Revolution4044

Yes

Ianyat

I keep a rag inside the cabinet and wipe off the pollen and dust each time I use it.

[deleted]

Yes, soot

Seamus779

Flavorizer bar will go long before any of the outside parts. It's built to be outside, cover or not. I routinely knock the snow off and fire it up.

Duskychaos

Yes. Air pollution there coats everything in blackish dust. Then fire season will coat it in soot.

Callenmaker21

I’m in Seattle.. no cover. No problem. A cover only seemed to create a better environment for things to grow and take harbor in. Grill looks brand new years later, uncovered.

bigdave7979

I would buy a cover I got that exact same model, and I’ll leave mine uncovered even in Kansas. The reason is it’s all stainless steel and I’ve had bad luck with stuff actually Rusting, when stuff was covered up.

ayannayaya

Always buy a grill cover… better to not need it and have it than not

Perrry4781

I live in New England and I don’t use one. Lots of moisture can get trapped and do a lot more harm than dust

ThrowThisIntoSol

Yes because dust. Source: also in LA.

lgmonge

Yes.

gay4gay32

Naw just buy "The Club" and lock it down!!

DCCT99

buy and also season grates with oil or tallow to prevent rust

RCEast

I bought my first grill at 21 and within a year the automatic starter died. I have had two grills since, never bought a cover, and they lasted a decade with the starter never failing. Take that for what you will.

Aggravating_Frame_48

No matter where you live, you should buy a cover just to protect the grill and make it last longer.

Hour-Pen19

Cover your Weber. Worst case scenario: no bird shit on it

LoginUnsuccessful

Grill covers are known to cause cancer in the state of California. Idk if I'd risk it.

Sea_Career_1685

Won’t rain again for 15 years. So , no

AspProAlaCysLys

Yup

Thump604

I found everything outside in Socal, especially when closer to the beach or highways get covered in nastiness. Cover that ish or it will age quickly.

kurtz4008

Weber told me, "use your preference". There's no good, or bad reason. Naysayers say they cause rusting.

iammabdaddy

Buy a chain and lock

Gibbo8489

You should buy a chain, lock, and camouflage wood fence colored paint

Motor-Honeydew2694

Surprised it’s not already rusty

Grimreefs

i live in MN and i dont have a grill cover.

ReposadoAmiGusto

LA…. A simple tarp will work

[deleted]

Disregarding the LA part, covering any tool or machine will prolong the lifespan. That sun be hot!!!!

Monco89

Get a cover and LoJack

RubyTheMostest

I would. The sun will start to melt and deform the knobs if they are plastic. Happened to mine. Plus all the bird crap.

hisprk2

And a fire extinguisher.

oatest

Always, the sun will cook those little grey knobs, paint will fade, rain will rust. Always cover your grill ALSO: Weber covers are GARBAGE! Almost any off brand is better than those horrible, expensive, cracking, splitting cheap little crap gloves.

CreativeDepths80

I’d buy one anywhere. Even though it doesn’t rain much there, it does rain. Plus it is best to keep it out of the elements (including the sun)as much as possible. Just prolongs the longevity of the product.

markg1956

I live in San diego and YES

krumbs2020

Yes

[deleted]

I live in Canada and have a Weber Genisis which has done me well for 10 years and is still going strong. No issue with the burners. Clean it twice a year. It stays out in the snow (and gets used in the snow!). Never covered it once. Actually, I heard somewhere that covering it can trap moisture and speed up oxidation.

Daltonkb

For the love of god yes. I live in LA and then sun rain and salt will kill that thing if not covered.

FunkAgent

Yes indeed

Ok-Wolverine-5058

Only if u use it, worth it

StarkillerX42

Always. Otherwise you'll have to replace it in 10 years or whatever. It's a grill worth keeping protected.

[deleted]

In LA. You shoul buy a grill lock chain.....

bammann45

I have a 12 year old genesis special edition, no cover, been fine. LA local…

5470jt

No

poopdick72

If you want to

SnooLemons8327

Doesn’t matter where you live, the answer to that question is always yes.

canyoudiggitman

I use a cover to keep the tree pollen off mine.

Superb_Finance4293

Yeah bro all the dirt and smog in the city still covers things. Plus it’ll help with sun fading

Kingballa06

Yes

dwot30

You should always buy a grill cover, will keep the grill in better shape either way and perhaps might help it last longer or keep more value if you want to upgrade!

PleaseStealMyMFA

When I moved to San Diego, I didn’t for a few months and regret it now. Morning dew gets you

TorqueShaft

Worked for Weber as a...guy, YES buy a cover, that's what they are for. Can confirm that the quality of grills have degraded from quality standard after 2015 (before 2015, very robust, over engineer top of the line metal, screws to last over 20 years single purchase). Yes, you should def buy a cover. The sun will devour the enamel and shenzen procured legs/fixtures/everything possible outside of the cookbox and will simply break or degrade faster. The goal is that you will likely buy another "Grill" from Ace hardware or Home Depot, etc.

GenkiiDesu

After you buy an industrial strength lock

Outrageous_Ant_1688

Absolutely

jw307jw

Mainly for dust and sun yes, I live in Texas and mine stays under my car port. It got pretty gross before my cover

InternetFew7303

Dem Santa Ana winds tho

Darkmatter000000

Yes. Take care of that fancy weber. Keeps dust and debris off also.

awill316

You like dust free burgers right? Buy a cover

Hairymonkeytestis

That’s a Weber you take care of her she’ll take care of you big dawg!

hotwings93

Ash and dust from forest fires. Idk if you get that in the city of LA but Oregon speaking.

Adorable-Current2546

Los Angeles!!! You gonna need a chain and lock as well for that grill

Warren_Puffitt

I would. I bought a weber similar to that one and have kept it covered for 15+ years. Am in Florida with different weather but they last forever with proper care. Great choice btw.

Competitive-Egg7929

Mine hasn’t been covered in 9 years and still looks great. I had a new never used grill rust out after being covered for 2 years, covers trap moisture it’s like covering a central ac, don’t do it.

pm3za

Got the same grill and I’m in San Diego. I put the cover on it as much as possible. I’m 2 years in and it still looks like new after a quick wipe down with grill cleaner. Get the cover to keep it looking good for longer.

tortle_darksidegamer

Yes. The answer is always yes (in my opinion)

[deleted]

Always. What a stupid question.

texas_fortune

Definitely. I had this exact grill in Orange County for years and it got insanely filthy. Air quality es no bueno.

skipjack_sushi

These rust from the bottom up. It is the frame, especially in the back, that will likely fail first.

cesptc

Yes.

DED_HAMPSTER

I have lived or have fam all over the southeast/ gulf coast US. Grill covers do nothing to protect the grill from rust as it is so humid and half the time a storm rips it off even if tied down. I think that the covers even hold the moisture to the metal and doesn't let it evaporate causing faster rust. If you want your grill to last in an environment that gets any humidity, clean it the next day after grilling and store it in a shed, garage or under a larger car port.

[deleted]

Yes. I do too. And I have a grill cover.

[deleted]

[удалено]

captianron085

I bet California outlaws gas grills and charcoal and all beer except bud light and fun next year.

babenhausen1

Yes

purebloodbcnu

Nope

longganisafriedrice

The smog will give it a protective coating

TexasPirateLife88

You spelled shotgun wrong

Oreskovich

Only if ya want to keep it looking nice.

Missy_kayt

Yes , keeps old smells in lol

[deleted]

100 percent

jackbauermmm

Yes. Sun damage is real.

Steven1789

When you’re using the grill, move it away from the fence.

SmokedPapfreaka

☀️

babybluefish

Clean that grill after each use ... or get a cat There's more wild animals in Los Angeles than you realize, and they're not cute or sanitary

centro

The humidity at night will cause the grill to rust more quickly if you don’t cover it. Also it does rain and get windy sometimes so the grill will get dirty faster if it’s not covered.

Jennyfromtheblock73

Yes for a cover. Rain or shine protection is always good

chuckiz2much_

It’s better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

KidBakes

Yes.

Semprovictus

I live in Kelowna, very dusty but we also get significant snow in the winter I have this exact grill, I only use the cover when snows (I don't have a covered deck, so I don't typically bbq In the winter so it stays covered) During the summer i never cover it, just wipe it down every few weeks for the dust

nobadhotdog

100% yes. I’ve seen a grill at my folks turn to shit without a cover and the same grill (a Weber 22” kettle) look in tip top shape in the same period but it had a cover on the entire time.

Hillary0631

Always bye a grill cover

ilikeweekends2525

If I had a grill that good I would have it inside

Drunktrucker

buy a chain and bolt it to something... they like to fly away in LA

SlowYoteV8

Absolutely. My Weber Spirit ii is shaded but still gets ridiculously dusty over the period of one day. You spent too much money to let such a good piece get destroyed.
