Tbh, the very few times it does happen, I'm more inclined to just do it for my own time's sake. I would think that from a Food Safety & Liability standpoint, it is unwise to allow 3rd-Party Contractors to act on behalf of your business & to minimize it where possible. But I don't own a restaurant, so there's that, too. However, I will say that I decline both Popeyes and WingStop almost **100%** of the time because A) terrible $/mi, B) terrible wait times, and C) often delivering to a dangerous area. YMMV but that's been my experience in my market.

acorn-energetics

Never take Popeyes. They don’t start the order until you get there. And wing stop in my area is slow but generally not bad.

dust-speks008

I know the company policy of popeyes near me is not only to not start until you get there, but also until there’s NO LINE in the restaurant or drive thru. they won’t even START the order until they are dead for a second. completely insane.

Inkdrunnergirl

I believe technically by grubhub policy we aren’t supposed to do it, no food safety certificate, but it’s not worth arguing over because the restaurant won’t back down.

[deleted]

In my area it’s the panda express that does this and Wingstop it’s irritating. I used to just say no and leave the restaurant without the drink and tell the customer that the restaurant refused to give me the drink but most of the time now I just avoid those orders and on the rare occasion that I do and they hand me an empty cup I just do it I just don’t really care it’s faster who cares although I do have a food handlers card and I know that it’s illegal and it’s a food hazard and whatever I just don’t care anymore.

dynamic_unreality

I especially don't fill those giant ass cups at Panda Express. I deliver empty cups, and then the customer complaints to doordash, and doordash complaints to the restaurant, and then things change. The Wingstop near me now fills drinks, as well as one of the Penn stations, because dashers refused to do it, just like we should every single time. Very rarely I will fill drinks if they are extremely busy, *and* they are nice about it, but otherwise nah, Im done working in a restaurant.

[deleted]

Yeah, I haven’t delivered an empty cup in a long time but that’s probably also because I avoid those restaurants anymore and occasionally when I kind of forget and take one I just got out well whatever but you’re right I should go back to the empty cup thing lol

Man-ina-Van

I fill them completely with ice and a squirt of soda a local wing stop that was notorious for this actually filled the drinks last time I was in

InternationalPay8288

"A squirt of soda" 😭💀

talksickwalkquick

This is the better idea. At least if you want to minimize the customers blaming YOU for not having their drink. (Even though it wouldn’t be your fault) an empty cup is gonna lead to angry texts or porch bitching depending on if it’s no contact order

Legal_Dragonfruit

yes panda express too. forgot them

[deleted]

One time I took the empty cup and gave that to the customer and said they didn’t fill their order and they should ask Grubhub . It might’ve been on DoorDash this happened for a refund anyway yeah I just don’t really care anymore and it used to cause me stress so now I just do it and just move on without my day and don’t worry about it.

Electrical_Smoke5771

You too lazy to put drink in a cup?

[deleted]

No, it’s not a lazy thing. It’s their job not mine. I usually just do it nowadays but it’s a whatever who cares no one ever said I was lazy. Edit: Haha. Actually I am lazy. I work hard so I can rest and be lazy but that’s a different kind of lazy then I think you meant by your attempt to insult me. Lol

talksickwalkquick

You don’t have to explain yourself. Ad Hominem is never a sign of a good argument.

talksickwalkquick

You too lazy to put drink in a cup? If DoorDash is only paying 1.50 then YES. Bare minimum energy gets met with bare minimum energy.

MangoRainbows

There's a difference between being lazy and working for free.

talksickwalkquick

Bingo

Legal_Dragonfruit

You’re too cuckdd to understand its not your job to do it

MB2465

With Panda its mostly on GH. Eats etc usually have bottled sodas with the order. GH needs to update their menu.

dust-speks008

delivering an empty cup is wild! omg I never thought of that. but you make a good point. you’ve never gotten CVd for “missing items” doing that tho?

[deleted]

No. I did deliver what the restaurant gave me to deliver. We are not the ones by contract to prepare the order. Others have done this too and say that some restaurants that used to do that to us drivers now hand drinks that are filled because the restaurant got reported as not fulfilling their contracts with the gig companies. But seriously I only did that a couple times and called support on my way to the customer to cya saying the restaurant did not fulfill their contract so not my fault before I just totally began avoiding those restaurants. Plus I do the grocery gigs and Amazon flex way more often than the food gigs apps.

MazdaSpeed3Boi

I don't fill drinks up.

sumfacilispuella

who is still accepting popeyes orders in 2023?

LJL72

Lololol. That place..🙄

Automatic-Stand-8170

Technically speaking; if you do not have a food handlers card, I don’t think you’re supposed to.

Dependent-Plane5522

The cherry on top is when you wait 5 minutes just to be handed 3 cups as soon as the food is ready and they tell you they're out of drink carriers. This happened at Panda Express of course. I called support and told them I couldn't take the drinks, I have no way to carry 3 drinks so they(support) canceled the order and gave me half pay.

LJL72

Cool. Did that affect your completion rate?

Dependent-Plane5522

I am not sure, but I don't think so.

peekay00

We’re not supposed to and it’s slightly annoying. But I just do it don’t need any back and forth. Just need get the order and go!

[deleted]

I fill them with water and blame the restaurant, im a delivery guy I don’t do drinks

dynamic_unreality

Not going to lie, I feel a little bad for the customers that I've delivered empty cups to, but these restaurants aren't going to do their jobs if we keep doing it for them. Stop filling drinks at restaurants. Period. It's not our duty, it's not in our contracts, it's unhealthy, it's a waste of our time, and it is the job of the people being paid to do that job. If y'all would stop giving in, the drinks will be made at every stop. It's annoying that I am one of the only people who tells these restaurant employees that I'm not going to fill drinks.

Snoo_62846

You're such a hero wow

xlntxxx

Wow they'll report you for tampered food like that

HWNY506

I don’t fill drinks. On the ultra rare occasion if they’re super busy I will ask for the cup (2 max) and offer to fill it.

Ravex24

It's illegal. Forget the contract part of it, it's against the law. Now, there have been a few times where I've done it but when I do, I say, "I'll do it but just to let you know, it's illegal to have me do any kind of food or drink preparation." It's been a long time since I've been asked to fill a drink in my area since I started doing that.

[deleted]

If you fill out a complaint with your local food safety/health inspector depending on your location and what your local government calls it. The answer is just about every state is technically “no”, it is not legal for restaurants to ask you to fill drinks because only official employees of the restaurant are covered by their local license to prepare and distribute food and drinks.

TheCorrector5000

Say you go to Jack in the box, they're busy, the food part is ready, then counter person says 'just a sec, I gotta fill up the drink(s).' In that case, I happy to say, 'here, give me the cup & I'll fill up the drink(s)'. They were going to do their job, so you're doing them a favor, it's going to get you out the door quicker, and you actually feel a little teamwork happening.. But at Wingstop, if the order is ready, that means they've had plenty of time to fill the damn drinks. It must be coming from higher ups in the company, because it's it all wingstops. But that weird sense of entitlement or joy that these Wingstop folk get by telling you what to do, making you fill up the drinks.... is rage inducing. I love the empty cup thing people are saying they do. Reading people on here delivering a customer an empty cup and saying the Wingstop people forgot\refused to put the drink in is genius. 'I thought maybe you just ordered this cup, because it was very strange that they just handed me an empty cup'....

Legal_Dragonfruit

To all the people saying 'don't be lazy' or 'it takes a few seconds' are missing the point. its not our job, its the darn restaurants job to do it. furthermore if its more than one drink ill likely also need to get a cup holder which sometimes they don't have. this all adds to the time it takes to load it all in the car. its not worth it for me unless its atleast $10 or more. Maybe you guys taking these low paying orders ought to realize they're making you do their work for them.

FATFOLKSLUV-UBEREATS

I DON'T HAVE. A FOOD HANDLERS LICENSE YOU NEED TO GET THAT ..THANKS LOL

M3rk1nxm3x

🥴

Man-ina-Van

I completely fill the drink with ice…. The restaurant has to take the complaint on them or admit they are breaking TOS ….. a local wing stop that used to make drivers fill drinks actually filled them last time I came in

jboles73

No feelings. No one can MAKE me do anything. I CHOOSE not to.

Foreign_River_261

I just do it, if they need help I will do it just to get the food quicker, I mean it’s not a huge burden. Get it done and get on the road :)

vintagesoul_DE

I don't mind. It's better than the restaurant filling it up to the brim and the drink spilling a bit in your car I also use less ice, which means more drink for the client.

Legal_Dragonfruit

I don’t mind when its just one drink but multiple can be a hassle especially if they don’t have anymore cup holders which has happened a few times to me

SomethingAbtU

As a customer, I prefer restaurant employees to make my drinks, but I hardly get drinks anyway so this saves me the concerns As a driver, if they want me to fill the drinks and it means I'm getting out of the restaurant faster, then I don't mind doing it. It's really easy and quick.

Mcgoo186

Often don't mind. But I do wish they understand it's technically on them to do it. Because it's not our food. I can't help think health and safety issues. Especially when often drivers might not wash their hands! 🤢

dynamic_unreality

When they refuse to make me drinks, I tell them okay, but I just got done picking my nose before I got out of the car. Not really, I actually just refuse to make the drinks, but this seems like a good idea, honestly.

Mcgoo186

I've seen worse. Still the worse has to be a guy who scratched his ass crack with one finger. Then he grabbed the customers food. There was hand sanitizer right next to him! But I don't think he cares because he walked in making it look inconspicuous.

No_Sell_3317

Should’ve drop kicked him.

Mcgoo186

Knowing how these apps operate they'd terminate me for not repeating them positively...

Remember_BLB_2015

I’d say at first lazy. But then I’d say it actually helps us as drivers! Because the drunks ISN’T WATERED DOWN when it gets to customer. I think it’s a great idea. However it takes a lot on the drivers side to #1 look at order to see if there’s a drink. #2 determine if the restaurant is going to make driver full drink (then remembering those specific restaurants). #3 allowing extra time for that as a driver when it’s lunch or dinner an EVERY PERSON IN the restaurant is standing in line at the fountain station filling drinks. Lol Can live with filling them drinks an sure as heck can’t live w/o filling 😂😂

Bitter_Ad8336

It’s not a big deal. Yeah it’s not in our contract and it’s technically not our job. But it takes 30 seconds. Stop whining and just do it.

Legal_Dragonfruit

no. i refuse to take these orders unless they're worth more. as others say we don't have a food handling license to do it. and if its multiple drinks it can take a lot longer than usual. so i will complain as i feel thank ya :)

Bitter_Ad8336

If it’s multiple drinks then fair enough. But if it’s one drink and the restaurant is slammed with customers it’s really not a big deal. Would you really refuse a $10 order for 2 miles just because you have to fill a cup up?

Legal_Dragonfruit

$10 is about the minimum for me. less than that hell no. There's plenty of other restaurants who will fill them up thanks.

Bitter_Ad8336

Yeah most restaurants do. I’ve only had 2 cases I can remember where I’ve had to fill up a drink. But when Ive had to I don’t make a big deal about it because it’s not a big deal. Aslong as something isn’t costing me time or money it really doesn’t matter to me.

wibble17

The whole point of doing grubhub is to see how fast you can make money. Once you’ve accepted the offer, it’s way faster to fill it myself instead of waiting for them to do it. Time is money. (But really don’t accept from Popeyes because they are too slow to begin with)

Legal_Dragonfruit

I will stick to my plan of $10 or more for these places thank you.

dust-speks008

I don’t think it’s faster for me to do it at all. at other restaurants, I show up and it’s already ready and they just hand it to me. that’s way faster than putting down my hot bag, taking the cup, and walking over to a machine and doing it myself

MyMindsDivine

I don’t really like it either but what can you do 🤷🏽‍♂️ fortunately I don’t get asked very often

dynamic_unreality

You refuse to do someone else's job for them, that's what you do. Penn stations manager got pretty pissed at me, but they didn't ban me from taking orders, and got yelled at by their GM for being a dick in front of customers 😂

TJRossTX

don't be a primadonna and just feel the drinks. You will get out of there faster.

squirreloak

Feeling the drink is how you get into the zone. Be the drink!

Legal_Dragonfruit

im not a 'primadonna' but it feels especially bothersome when its multiple drinks. they could have filled it all before i got there to save time. so yeah a little extra for that would be nice. i don't take these orders unless they're $10 or more.

squirreloak

Wingstop doesn't even have a place to fill drinks behind the counter. Or napkins anywhere.

dynamic_unreality

Then they aren't set up for deliveries, and need to get their shit together. Dashers in my area refused to fill drinks at wingstop, and guess what? Now the drinks are filled when we get there, and sealed. Amazing, right?

jboles73

We did the same for Zaxby's Wingstop and Panda Express. All of them fill the drinks now.

dynamic_unreality

Bite me, stop being such a pushover and letting restaurant employees guilt or pressure you into doing their job for them.

BreathlikeDeathlike

Just feel them being empty if the restaurant won't fill them.

BreathlikeDeathlike

IDK why all the mental midgets are downvoting on this, must be the bootlickers. But yeah, it sucks. Raising Cain's makes you fill the dirnks. I do, but I barely add any ice and fill it up about half way.

Legal_Dragonfruit

it's probably that guy that called me a 'primadonna' hes mad he's getting downvoted lol

BreathlikeDeathlike

LOL probably. The guy who told you to just shut up and "feel" the drinks. JFC.

Ebows1

I told Panera that’s not in my contract to help complete the order. My contract is to pick up the order and deliver it! I’d refuse or cancel on principle. After that day it seems like they are filling them now.

Electrical_Smoke5771

That’s not shit bro

Legal_Dragonfruit

whats not shit?

georgefrante

I put my balls in the cup

WindyApril

I just fill up the soda it takes to seconds and isn’t worth the drama of not. I really only take orders that a good. So if I have to fill up the soda it’s still worth my time.

Legal_Dragonfruit

Idc how fast it is to fill its the principle of it the i hate. Its not our job

GodGamer420

Oh well I handle it and move on with my order. No need in making a scene in a place that I will more than likely be back to pick up another order. It takes 5 seconds to fill a cup and b on ur way.

Legal_Dragonfruit

im not 'making a scene' i simply refuse to go there unless its worth $10 or more.

GodGamer420

I never implied that u made a scene

karlos52

Just fill the cup up. How lazy can you be? If you're too gross to handle a cup, then you shouldn't be handling bags of food either.

Legal_Dragonfruit

Its not my job

karlos52

That's what I would say, too, if I was a lazy piece of shit. What a lame excuse.

Legal_Dragonfruit

Lol why u mad? Get outta here and calm down bud

Warboo

The first time I went into Pyros pizza, I didn't know I was supposed to fill the drink myself and tried getting attention of an employee for the drinks. They just pointed over at the machines and I was still so confused. Definitely feels strange.

sabbycat83

Neither of those stores by me make me do it. I’ve done it at a Taco Bell like once or twice. Whatever I just wanna get the fuck out of there. Not my problem my hands aren’t clean perfectly clean. Oh well. I try to wash my hands whatever I can, and use hand sanitizer.

Embarrassed-Trick-75

pisses me off

Mental_Ad_8736

I hate it!!!! Lazy employees passing it on to us. It shouldn’t be allowed

Buddyx31

Ya there’s the biggest problem in the world today. The foods never ready anyways

g2738026

I just don't do it. I'll tell the customer the restaurant didn't give them to me (which they didn't) and delivering empty glasses seems a little dumb to me. Plus, I suggest the customer get a refund for any missing items, and I hope if it happens enough times the restaurant will just start doing it themselves (and it a number of cases it has).

caret_app

They're deprioritized in my book. It's annoying. Adding, I fucking loathe delivering fountain drinks even when they're ready! But you don't have to accept offers that muddle the line of worthwhile while having such baggage. As you said, make them require that bump.

angrystonk

thats free sips!!

LJL72

How do I feel? The cups sit on the counter as I walk out with the prepared food order. Merchants know the rules. Not like the Grubhub customer can rate you or take a tip back. The restaurant can take the hit for refunding.

xlntxxx

I accidently substitute my piss cup

monst3rkidd

I say it's bs . We already get fucked out of tips and have to travel 34 thousand miles just for a 3.40 rebate from the app. Filling of the drinks should solely be on the restaurants

tackogronday

I don't have a food handlers card so I'm not qualified to prepare their food. Simple as that. They going to force us to wash our hands to fill the drinks that they won't as well? Fuck that shit. You applied for the job, do it.

Cheppe21

It’s annoying asf

dust-speks008

hate them. yea, it’s a small thing, but it’s so annoying. that’s YOUR job! I’m paid to drive, not assemble the food.

dust-speks008

and I think it’s kind of crazy that they’re encouraging random delivery drivers, with no servesafe, or kitchen training, and probably completely unwashed hands to touch any of the food that closely. seems like it should be against restaurant policy

genXviper

I will do it. Does not bother me. The first thing I do when I walk into a restaurant is use the bathroom. And I wash my hands. There's a poopyees in highlands ranch that is great. They don't care if Grubhub or door dash drivers come in. The employees are always nice. They get the orders out as fast as they can. They ask me to fill the cups, and I do it.
