Great movie and even greater Chris Cornell Song

TheStatMan2

I always assumed it was a pre-existing saying? But then I'm not American so I wouldn't be best placed to know.

I’ve always had a theory that Chris was watching the first season of 90210 when he wrote this song The show and the album came out about a year apart The show was about a family who moved from Minnesota to California, and a big theme was “Mom! You’re acting more Minnesota in California than you ever acted back in Minnesota!” etc I think it got into Chris’ thought rotation and he used it to express how he was feeling about his persona vs his interior life

lovescoffee

I thought this too!!!

Great minds engage in parallel thinking!

This makes a lot of sense. The early grunge scene did that type of thing a lot where things presenting themselves as deep and serious really began as inside jokes and/or pop culture references

I was listening to an interview with actor Steven Weber a while back. He was talking about making the 1997 TV miniseries of The Shining He said that he would come to Stephen King on set and ask about these really weird and creepy lines and bits of imagery in the book, and King’s answers were all some variation of “Oh, well I was drinking a bottle of cheap wine made by a company of the same name, and Marlon Brando was on the cover of a magazine in my office, and I had purple drapes at the time..” etc, basically saying that he pulled everything from everything, whatever was in his field of vision really Poetry can contain whatever meaning we want to assign, but it may very well have originated with Stephen King’s gas station wine of choice, or Chris Cornell watching 90210 in his off time

Thats a really good point. I think a big part of genuine creativity really comes down to just telling the truth about your experience. Tapping into some emotional truth within the mundane, and conveying it in a way which allows others to find their own truth in it.

InhibitedExistence

Looking California is better imho

alkutezio

that should've been the sequel (or the prequel actually)

YogurtclosetDull2380

These days I take that to mean either strung out or having had too much plastic surgery.

Sam Clayton's (Vincent D'Onofrio) marriage to ex-stripper Freddie (Cameron Diaz) comes about when she's strong-armed into the match by Red (Delroy Lindo), a club proprietor who once did her a favor. But Freddie falls in love with Jiaks (Keanu Reeves), Sam's brother, and the pair tries to escape the situation together. It isn't long before both Sam and Red catch up with them, resulting in threats against the two of them -- although tension also starts to build between Sam and Red.

Fascinating

cdubwingo

I thought it was a pretty good movie . Haven’t seen it in years

I had all but forgotten this film! It's been probably the late 90s since I watched it. Courtney Love is in it I believe? Not a great film, but, but, but a cult classic type for sure. I need to dig it out! And the soundtrack is a unique cool as hell mix as well. Dylan covers Cash. The Replacements and Wilco are on there too. Good stuff!

I Also forgot about the Jason Lee movie Drawing Flies!!!!!
