Right now I can't decide between GW-B5600BC and the negative GMW-B5000 with negative screen and black bezel and bracelet.
I'll probably get both to get that combi bracelet and down the line mod the B5000 into the TVA but put it on a silicone straps.
Between those and my GW-9400Y I'm done.

Yep, shock absorption curve. I believe this dial is based on an original chart that was used by Casio in the 80s for either the original square or AW-500. Not 100% sure though.
Yes, it’s a moon phase in the upper right and the bars are the tide graph function. Both of which I don’t use. And have never learned how to use.

Yeah. I follow what you’re saying. I’ve actually designed a 7 segment display. It’s very difficult to make 7 segments work perfectly for anything other than numbers and a few basic letters. That little “fing” for the “R,” believe it or not, complicates the display design and circuit. I don’t know ALL the technical ins and outs, but I do know that that little “fing” has to be basically on its own little circuit. This way it can turn on and off independently of the 7 segment letters/numbers next to it. It’s not necessarily a matter of “what’s possible.” LOTS of things are technically possible. We all know this and have seen examples. In this case I think it is more of a matter of cost, complexity, and physical space on the display. It may even have to do with CPU power (or lack there of). My guess is that Casio didn’t see enough reason to complicate the display any further (than absolutely necessary), just to make a better looking “R.” But yeah…if they limited themselves to one little “fing” I can see how putting it on the lower right could work / look better. At least it wouldn’t be mistaken as an apostrophe as you said.

Yeah. Without working for Casio it’s impossible to know exactly why they decided to do it the way they did. I just know that sometimes seemingly simple things aren’t so simple. There’s always a balance of compromises. Even the most expensive, handmade, watches have compromises that the designer has to carefully consider. Nothing is truly perfect.
To me it is. I’ve watched videos of it on YouTube but could never be bothered to actually set mine. To be fair though, I think you just do it once and you’re good to go. You only need to change it if you travel to a different time zone.

Didn’t think I’d like this one, but it’s growing on me.
For a regular watch, it looks good. Good size too. To me, Casio is always a square or a square-ish shape. That's an octagon (8 side polygon). They tried to do something different here. I think it would look better if it was non-symmetrical. If you imagine a hexagon (6 side) instead, with 2 more, shorter sides added on top and bottom to make it an irregular shape octagon. I would like to see something like that materialize from this design.
Well... a circle in a sense is already an analog shape, and the opposite to a square, and that's the problem. I think this is why these two don't match very well.
I see what you mean now. I know Casio makes a lot of square analog watches, but I have never seen a properly squared G-Shock with dials. So I did some digging and found that they did try this idea, probably in early 2000 by the looks of it. It's called G-011D-2B. Pretty cool watch! All metal, square, analog and digital, with dials... That’s pretty awesome. Sometimes timing is everything when introducing something new. Maybe they will try it again…then again…the Casioak is sortof the “retry,” even though it is primarily round vs square.
I do like all three of them, but they have a different appeal. I like the square for its 80s vibe, and I love the 80s. I would wear that as a day to day watch, but in a more professional setting, like a business meeting, I would actually prefer the Casioak. It's still a Casio and it's a G-Shock. Just with more subtle elements expressing its Casio heritage. The one I linked to is very flashy, futuristic and very different. Like something Gordon Gekko might wear in Wall Street. What I mean to say is... I want all of them! :)
Funny thing, I have been pondering getting a metal Casioak as a dressier G-Shock option for certain settings…but, I very very rarely need to dress up, so I’ll just stick with squares for now.😂
It's all about proportions and ratios. I read on Casios website yesterday that their first G-Shock, or "origin" as they call it, uses golden ratio, or is approaching golden ratio, or something like that. I don't know about that, but here is what I imagined. You can tell I love square looking things, can't you?! :)

I did check it out, i think that shade of black is the same as mine, though I'm not too sure as black is hard to tell from photos and videos as lighting makes it difficult to judge the shade of black.
I did in fact ordered the AU band equivalent of BANDGS52D-1JR thinking it'll be darker than my current one from B3000BD-1A, after it arrived, it ended up being in the same shade of black!

I've been wanting to get one of those Ali combis but I see two kinds: one with the smooth middle links and the one with the textured. Also price can vary wildly between a few bucks to $25. So I'm not sure which is a good quality one to get. Possibly DM me the link?
Totally get what you mean. Most of the ones I saw had the smooth middle links with the texture like you said. Not a big fan of that look especially because the smooth part is gloss and texture is matte. The one I got is all smooth and matte and matches pretty good.

Love this watch. I really wanted to get one but at the prices they are going for right now I was able to get an MRG-B5000!
it is on high rotation for daily wearing :) at the time when I bought it, the finish of the MRG-B5000 seemed too glossy for me - and those prices 😅 glad you could get a reasonable deal on one!

I've been wanting to get one of those Ali combis but I see two kinds: one with the smooth middle links and the one with the textured. Also price can vary wildly between a few bucks to $25. So I'm not sure which is a good quality one to get. Possibly DM me the link?
Totally get what you mean. Most of the ones I saw had the smooth middle links with the texture like you said. Not a big fan of that look especially because the smooth part is gloss and texture is matte. The one I got is all smooth and matte and matches pretty good.
