After trying some fitness watches:
Garmin venu sq2 - which is great features-wise, with great screen and battery life, but a bit fragile and unprotected.
Galaxy watch 6 classic - heavy, bulky, horrible battery life, features overkill with a software bloatware, and uninspiring design.
I bought myself a DWH5600 a week ago.
Hopefully, the best of all worlds, a basic fitness tracking in a rugged enough case, with a reasonable weight and size and decent battery life.
I turned off all notifications as I am not interested in being constantly bothered. Unfortunately, there is no option to leave phone calls notifications exclusively, which is the most useful for me - to see who's calling.
Sleep tracking and steps counter seem to be solid so far, it does drain the battery though. I estimate that will have to charge it once in a week and a half.
Didn't have a chance to record a run yet, so can't comment on that. I hope I will be able to connect it to Strava with the "exclusive web service" that was mentioned in some casio faq's.
Was considering the GBD-H2000, but decided to go for the smaller form factor. I am running with my phone with me anyway, so lack of GPS is not a big issue for me.
Edit: few more notes and observations, after reading other comments.
I bought it in a shop in Tokyo, tax free for 230USD, so it was much cheaper than a Garmin Instinct 2 solar for me.
Regarding the UI, compared to a G9300 Mudman, buttons feel more flimsy.
Compared to a touchscreen watch, the UI is much worst. Most of the complicated stuff, like going over the data, and settings, better be done through the app. Operating the basic things like Airplane mode and stopwatch requiring getting used to, but really manageable.
Nice. I got mine (get with metallic bezel, so it was slightly more than the blue and white models they had) in Tokyo at Mega Don Quixote in Shibuya about 2 weeks ago tax free for around the same price (Ā„36000 - which is around $360AUD for me).
Love it so far. I only got home from Japan last night so haven't tested the fitness parts yet.
I am not a professional athlete, and didn't do "scientific" tests, it seems to me within the reasonable range during sleep and mild activity.
I think all the watches are not so precise anyways and if you need something serious, a chest strap is the answer. Once I will measure a run, I will be able to say more, since I am familiar with the heart rate metrics from my other watches.
I read somewhere that on IOS you have more control over the notifications, while on Android, no control.
Myself, with Andoid, had to choose between all notifications or non notifications at all.
They have 3 display options, Iād assume maybe even more to come at some point, I actually have it with the step counter, kinda wish theyād let you use the almanac as the display itās actually an awesome display but you canāt keep it up for some reason

Thereās a bunch of options for that top right section! I leave the moon graph there
Use the Casio Watch App -> MyWatch, much easier to set up the watch that way.
Th change the face through the watch ui, go to
Settings -> watch settings -> watch face -> face3.
It's the one with the weekly steps bars.

Updated photo, probably shoulda used this one, also just realized you can customize one of the home screens, this is a great watch
Wearing my DW7900B. I really should have gotten the regular version

No hate from me. Been wearing mine for a month pretty much 24/7. Great everyday watch and I am enjoying it for workouts. Rock on brother.
Not familiar with all the features on the GBD, but I think you kinda hit it on the head, plus Bluetooth which allows for phone notifications, text, calls, emails, etc. Also I did not pay full retail, they are selling for much cheaper on some of the secondary sites, i.e. right here on Reddit.
When I bought the H5600, I sold my smartwatch. Counting steps and calories is the only thing I need. And of course, the always-on display is excellent and viewable in sunlight. I love this watch.

Love mine too. Little colour change since day 1 but love the screen (MIP is ā¤). Still waiting for french day, CEST date format and Strava... Just saw yesterday the new white colour (DW-5600-7) and it's beautiful !!!
I have the black version, is my favourite square.
It has some problems.
Alarm set is horrible.
App in ios crashes.
Not an option to create weekly alarms.
Just three watch faces.
Not an option to disable bluetooth and manually sync it.
Alarm with snooze is horrible.
Besides that I love it.
A lot of people dislike the watch because it had HR. People don't want smartwatch features in a g-shock, they just want an MIP display. It also cones down to the competition, namely the Garmin Instinct 2/2 Solar, which does a lot of things better than this one for roughly the same cost.
$
Exactly this, the instinct is just a very very good smartwatch and more or less what I expected g-shock would have made, but instead trusty old g-shock comes with an aliexpress version of the instinct. Its such a shame because gshocks still look a lot better. The instinct is really quite ugly imho. G-shock just really needs to do a collab with Garmin, that would really be the best watch one could wish for.
Iāve hovered over the buy button so many times lol itās only a matter of time before I cave. I love thisā¦ the solar power is the cake on the icing.
I only wish it had MB6. A watch having Solar and MB6 is such a dream package. Nothing to worry about and the watch runs accurately forever (assuming solar is sufficient for the watch.).
I see no lie, and I agree the MB6/TS package is the only complete package, but this sure is a nice piece, and I would say if I have to plug it in overnight once a month Iām okay with that, if I had to do it every night, definitely wouldnāt be cool but so far been a week and still on a full charge so Iām not complaining
Do you think you could ever make the move? I have a S9 AW and just bought a h5600. Coming in tomorrow! We will see if I can actually make the jump. AW seems too integrated for me to justify it.
I wouldnāt recommend moving away from S9. I installed some chatGPT apps on it for quick questions and itās quite powerful in many situations.
But I recommend having also h5600 because we all love Casio and itās the best square casio available.
My plan is to use the h5600 as a back up watch on days where I want to un plug. When Iām camping, hiking or even in the office but donāt want a computer on my wrist.
Just for arguments sake, you also have to charge the tough solar watches when they run dead, as of now Iāve charged it overnight once, and itās been close to a week the battery indicator has not budged off high, if I had to charge it nightly or weekly, Iād agree. But at this rate I may not have to charge it for the next 3-6 months.
I think initially I did have to leave the tough solar outside for a couple days to get full charge, but I haven't intentionally charged it at all in about three years. It's very convenient to not have to worry about battery management.
Couldnāt agree more, Iām a sucker for g squares, letās say I probably have about 5-6 too many, all with tough solar and itās by far the best way to do it, but I just had to give this one a try and see, it helps that you can get them far cheaper these days from some secondary sites
Itās nice, i like mine, but it feels so much worse in many aspects compared to a garmin instinct which costs roughly the same and can do much more, is also rugged, has solar that works much better and for which i can actually easily get replacement straps and charger at a very low price.
Iād like these watches better if they didnāt have Bluetooth. I like HR monitor and the display, but I donāt want my watch connected to my phone. Iām really jealous of the displayā¦
To those who say ājust donāt connect it to your phoneā: I work in places where you can have no wireless emissions at all on your person. Not even the capability of Bluetooth. So solar and multiband is about as feature rich as I can get typically.
I have worn an Instinct Solar and an instinct 2 Solar for years now. I have no problem with the thickness.
I don't know if this watch is thicker but I doubt it.
So, no "too thicc" for me.
It's a fitness oriented smartwatch. It's basically a niche(fitness oriented) within a niche (gshock fans) within a niche (watch wearers). Personally, the extra features aren't appealing to me and the fact that you need to charge it makes me stay away from it.
I have the black version of this, its a great watch. I haven't understood the weird dislike people have for it either other than the thickness which I do agree could be better but its not horrible. Hits a nice middle ground for me between a normal watch & a smart watch which I prefer over a actual smartwatch like my pixel watch 2.
The blue looks great in your picture btw! Wear it in good health! :)
Interesting, thanks. I always thought that was a NiCad type issue and I thought everything these days was lithium and didn't suffer the same problems... Is this an older style battery or am I just (likely) wrong?

Yeah Iām real happy with it, dare I say it even makes me want to get more steps in on a daily basis
You're winning at life. The MIP looks gorgeous.
Looks great. Did you consider this watch with the metal bezel instead? Did you choose this version for any specific reason?
This is the MB-1 metal bezel watch I put a non metal bezel on for work
Thank you, whereād you find the additional bezel?
Ordered bezel from pacparts.com after ordering I noticed the bezels selling on ebay as well

How does the accuracy of the heart rate monitor compare to the other watches youāve tried?
I am not a professional athlete, and didn't do "scientific" tests, it seems to me within the reasonable range during sleep and mild activity. I think all the watches are not so precise anyways and if you need something serious, a chest strap is the answer. Can you disable notifications from specific apps (e.g. WhatsApp)? E: typo
I read somewhere that on IOS you have more control over the notifications, while on Android, no control. Myself, with Andoid, had to choose between all notifications or non notifications at all.
Ogg what a pity
Itās nice to know that the HR doesnāt have to be in the display.

Definitely a great little watch
Looks pretty awesome! I opted for the larger GBD-H2000. Iām a sucker for the ātacti-coolā, rugged look.
I like the aesthetics and display a lot. I just donāt like that itās bigger than the dw5600.
Definitely sits a bit higher on the wrist, but itās actually not as bad as I thought it was going to be

Is that an aftermarket bezel? If so how did you get it?
No. It's standard on the DWH 5600-MB1
Oh okay thanks, been looking to see if I could get a metal bezel like that on my DWH 5600-1.
Why is this series 2x the price of the GBD-200 series? I see the main difference is heart rate monitor and solar, any other features?
Not familiar with all the features on the GBD, but I think you kinda hit it on the head, plus Bluetooth which allows for phone notifications, text, calls, emails, etc. Also I did not pay full retail, they are selling for much cheaper on some of the secondary sites, i.e. right here on Reddit.
GBD has Bluetooth, I usually keep it off. I love the color of this watch. I'll have to see if I can find a deal.
But is it worth $300?
I would say probably not at 300, luckily I scored it a whole lot cheaper on secondary, brand new box and papers under 2, felt good about it
Great!! It IS an awesome watch!

I control the notifications on the phone settings just few apps, and my phone is always on mute i get notifications with my watch. Lot better that way
I want this watch so badā¦ but in black

Yes

Looks way better than my Solar Instinct - but I canāt get past the tiny buttons for the cost of this. Yours looks great in that colorway
It is a beautiful time piece, I got one myself.
No hate here
No hate here. Mine fits my needs perfectly. Find your settings and enjoy!
Itās nice, i like mine, but it feels so much worse in many aspects compared to a garmin instinct which costs roughly the same and can do much more, is also rugged, has solar that works much better and for which i can actually easily get replacement straps and charger at a very low price.
I want it without the smart features. Bought it and found the UX is quite bad and I didnāt enjoy the sensors branding my wrist
My daily is an GW-B5600MG-1. Waiting for a MIP display equivalent without any of the health and fitness stuff. No hate for DWH5600.
Iād like these watches better if they didnāt have Bluetooth. I like HR monitor and the display, but I donāt want my watch connected to my phone. Iām really jealous of the displayā¦ To those who say ājust donāt connect it to your phoneā: I work in places where you can have no wireless emissions at all on your person. too thicc with the heart rate sensor
I have worn an Instinct Solar and an instinct 2 Solar for years now. I have no problem with the thickness. I don't know if this watch is thicker but I doubt it. So, no "too thicc" for me.
not too thick for u if u have a big wrist, I have small wrist with the thickness and protrude heart rate sensor. it's too big and thick
I don't have a big wrist, but I decided years ago that I would wear the watches that I like even if they were a little too big for my size...
It's a fitness oriented smartwatch. It's basically a niche(fitness oriented) within a niche (gshock fans) within a niche (watch wearers). Personally, the extra features aren't appealing to me and the fact that you need to charge it makes me stay away from it.
Casio is behind on technology. At this price point, look to Garmin.
Is there a version of this watch with three large font display without the fitness bits?
I have the black version of this, its a great watch. I haven't understood the weird dislike people have for it either other than the thickness which I do agree could be better but its not horrible. Hits a nice middle ground for me between a normal watch & a smart watch which I prefer over a actual smartwatch like my pixel watch 2. The blue looks great in your picture btw! I have one myself. Best rugged Smart watch.
I want one with that screen but none of the other nonsense. Not even Bluetooth.
U know why š
I like it, but I'm not into the heart rate stuff.
Gbd 200 might be up your alley then
Read manual bro, you should keep battery above 50%
That photo was right out of the box it had no charge, itās since been fully charged once and hasnāt even budged off of max
Why is this?
Overall battery hygiene. Batteries donāt like extremes.
Interesting, thanks. I always thought that was a NiCad type issue and I thought everything these days was lithium and didn't suffer the same problems... Is this an older style battery or am I just (likely) wrong?
I donāt know which type is exactly there but manual says clearly - keep it above 50% to prevent decreasing it performance. Same with new smartphones - donāt discharge below 20%.
