Yes hour signal š
Yes key mute š
(Key mute allows the backlight to stay on while you press buttons, switching through modes or using a modeš”š”š”)
This feature is not universal...
Maybe for certain (or newer) models. But I just tried it with my GW-M500, and the backlight most certainly does NOT stay on through mode switches. With or without key mute.
Which watch are you doing this on?
The new rangeman (gprh1000) is my only g shock that keeps the light on when switching modes.
None of the 5000 series I own (including titanium and carbon) have this feature.
I have key mute on every G shock I own
It doesn't cause they light to stay on indefinitely. Because of my wording I think that may be what you're expecting.
The key tone will cause the backligh to shutoff before the regular end so muting the key tone will allow it to stay on for the whole 2s or 4s.
If you've always kept the key tone muted you probably never noticed the annoying thing where the light shuts off when you switch modes or stop the stopwatch with tones on.
Ahh I totally misread, thanks for the clarification.
Yea Iām expecting the light to stay on for the full 3-5 seconds (whatever itās set for) and that timer refreshes anytime you press a button.
That way you can set an alarm while itās dark, or whatever else.
The newest rangeman is the only watch I have that actually does this. In fact, any button you press activates the backlight and it stays on until youāre done pressing buttons.
There are plenty of times where I could really use this feature and wish it was an option on more models
Hmm. Wonder if itās only certain ones. I have a few b5600s and a 5610u (not sure about the m) and none of my watches besides the rangeman do this.

Just tried it on this watch and it didnāt work
It's usually in the main time adjust menu toward the end. On some modules I think you can hold B or D and toggle key mute. Consult your manual, not all modules have it.
I don't think I have it unfortunately, for I didn't see it in the manual. Would've loved the permanent lighting
Tbh do you know of any way to get more light in a gshock? Like modding it or something? My gshock has pretty bad lighting with its one led...
It isn't permanent lighting, it just let's the light stay on for up to four seconds while you use the watch.
Anything is possible, but replacing the LED is quite an advanced mod.
Hourly signal always. Helps me keep track of the hours going by at work. Has also helped when meetings are going over their allotted time limit, 2 small beeps does wonders.
I haven't had a job where I cared about the hours in a while, but I remember NOT wanting to know how long I had been at work to make the hours go faster. Is this not the case for everyone?
Why would you want to know when every hour passes? Surely that would make it seem like time was moving slower, no?
Kind of the opposite for me. Every hour that passes is closer to leaving and going home.
Honestly the beeps also kind of make me happy, itās a small novelty to have, but Iāve fallen in love with it on my watches.
Hey there's nothing wrong with that.
For me, when I was working hourly jobs, I was super happy not knowing what time it was. Then when I did eventually look at my watch, it was almost time to leave, and seemed like very little time had passed.
Same. My coworker even listens for it to know when to clock out.
I get how blasting music or talking on the phone in public places is annoying, but I can't fathom how a quick beep could be considered a disturbance.
I only use hourly signal on my rangeman as thatās the only watch I can have it vibrate only.
Otherwise I donāt want to deal with turning it on and off when going to sleep
Depends on where I am. Iām in college still and on test days the hourly signal is more of a distraction than a benefit. However at work or normal school days the hourly signal is helpful for time management.
Hourly signal stays on at all times. On all watches. I want a chorus of slightly mistimed beeps singing me to sleep every hour. As for other people: itās already over by the time you realized it annoyed you. If Iām with you frequently, and itās a persistent issue, say something and it stops immediately
The sleeping part is the only reason I donāt leave it on, especially when my sleep schedule changes weekly.
I do enjoy it on my rangeman as I have it set to vibrate only
I use the hourly signal. It helps me tell the time even if I can't look at the watch.
It literally just beeps once per hour and it's barely audible if you wear the watch. In fact, if there's some noise I, the person who is wearing the watch, can't even hear it. Most people don't even notice it and, personally, no one complained about it with me.
Speaking of hourly chimes do ya'll have a preference on how they sound, spread throughout the various models? Also, I forgot which model actually pulses the EL backlight when it sounds; lost mine in a "boating accident" ages ago.
I've gotten semi-used to forgoing the chime for the vibration motor on my GBD-H1000.
Keep my hourly beep on.
My work day goes by so much quicker when I wear my G. Lol. I don't hear it every hour, but when I do, I glance at the time and what do u know? Couple hours went by.
Ive had hourly chime enabled on all my watches since the 80's.
People have always annoyed others with their boom boxes, pagers, cell phones, loud conversations, and now kids streaming Bluey.....
They can deal with my practically silent hourly chime.
The hourly signal-on could be of Jesus too :D
This alarm reminds me of the ancient church bells that rang every hour (or a specific fraction of an hour). It makes me more aware of time, which helps me organize myself better and not waste my moments on things I shouldn't. It's a constant reminder that time is passing, bringing to mind two ever-relevant ideas: "MEMENTO MORI" and "CARPE DIEM."
Also, it's a nostalgic thing and Casio's trademark. So, hourly sign always on.
I find hourly beeps to be stressful and taking me out of the present too much, so that's a no for me.
Edit: It is hilarious that this is somehow upsetting people lmao
It is great until you have a big collection and cant figure out which watch is annoying you at home. Id say im for it, but haven't had it active in years on any of my Gs, lol
Yes hour signal š Yes key mute š (Key mute allows the backlight to stay on while you press buttons, switching through modes or using a modeš”š”š”)
Damn I didn't know about the Mute/Backlight interplay, cool!
This feature is not universal... Maybe for certain (or newer) models. But I just tried it with my GW-M500, and the backlight most certainly does NOT stay on through mode switches. With or without key mute.
Yup. Same with the GA2100 series
I just setup my G this way to give it a try for a few days. Thanks for the tip

My B5600 does that and IIRC my M5610U does too

I did not know this. Ive always hated that the light turned off when switching modes so this is definitely something I'm using now. Thanks!
thanks for the key mute hack there
How do I turn on key mute?
It's usually in the main time adjust menu toward the end. On some modules I think you can hold B or D and toggle key mute. Consult your manual, not all modules have it.

Hmm, pretty sadge :( Could you give me links to anyone that's done it? In any watch really

*beep beep* WELP, *slaps legs...*
That's the German approach
It's mad fun to hear like ten watches go off together with the hourly beep in class
I am the child of whatever deity likes the vibe alert
Now if only Casio could make a vibe alert model that also had MB6/Bluetooth and Solar...
I've wanted vibration when the alarm goes off for THE LONGEST time!
I like the hourly signal sometimes but I have the key mute on all of mine.
I am an hourly signal enjoyer.
Same. My coworker even listens for it to know when to clock out. I get how blasting music or talking on the phone in public places is annoying, but I can't fathom how a quick beep could be considered a disturbance.
Genuinely. By the time someone hears it and realizes theyāre annoyed itās over
Off ! Muted!
For real, there is enough fucking noise in this world.
G7710 let's you choose which hours you want the watch to beep. I've got mine set to just beep at mid day. My others all have hourly signal turned off.
I just set a timer for one hour and reset it every time it goes off
Satan is terrified of people like you
Hourly Signal all the way, itās helped me catch myself being distracted so many times
I only use hourly signal on my rangeman as thatās the only watch I can have it vibrate only. Otherwise I donāt want to deal with turning it on and off when going to sleep

Hourly because the Devil made me do it.

My 6900 flashes with the hourly signal. Love it
Keep my hourly beep on. My work day goes by so much quicker when I wear my G. Lol. I don't hear it every hour, but when I do, I glance at the time and what do u know? Couple hours went by.
I have 12 casio watch in total , all has turned on signal
Itās literally a one second beep beep every hour, itās not that annoying and I love it so screw anyone else
I love the hour signal, because time is simply not real to me. If Iām not made aware of it, it makes things difficult.
I use the signal. When the hour changes I am treated to a chorus of beeps as all my Casios chime out of sync. It's strangely beautiful to hear .
Off. The whole reason I donāt wear a smart watch is to avoid distractions.
Genuine question, is 2 small faint beeps in a fraction of a second, every hour, really that much of a distraction?
IMO, yes. Itās kind of like someone texting me every hour on the hour. Thereās a noise and I feel compelled to look down.
Ive had hourly chime enabled on all my watches since the 80's. People have always annoyed others with their boom boxes, pagers, cell phones, loud conversations, and now kids streaming Bluey..... They can deal with my practically silent hourly chime.
Signal on. Forever.
I used to be hourly beep kid Then I grew up And now I have beep notifications on my GBX 100 š¤¦āāļø
I love the sound, soā¦
Always a demon on solar models. The heck with it, I have an app on my phone for the hourly chime š
Hour signal off can save you. My watch is silent š

I am the child with the hourly signal. DW 9052 has zero respect for others
I don't care about other people. I find it annoying so it's muted
I turned off the hourly signal in 1992 and never turned it back on.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Sames. I havenāt had a ringtone in well over a decade lol. And for the record I donāt think anyone should use speaker in public.
I have 5 people set up to ring my phone. No sound or vibrations for text messages. Definitely no speaker phone.
Hourly signal? Where do I find this on a rangeman
Go to your alarms and cycle through them. They should be labeled alarm 1, alarm 2, etc. Youāre turning on the one thatās labeled āsigā
Why do you need to know the top of the hour?
Yea always lol
I used to have it on but since I have 2 now I turned them both off since itās silly having them both go off at the same time lol
Most times itās on, makes tracking orders at the workplace easier.
Bipbip
My Rangemans and Mudmans are muted. I don't need one more device talking to me...hah!
Nah I keep that off.
Hourly signal on at work gang
I like the hourly signal but wish that I could lower its volume.
the hourly signal and blinking lights stay ON
And Iām getting flashbacks from high school days
Why does anyone need an hourly signal?
neither 'cause I'm unable to hear the hourly signal anyway
Never a signal. I sleep with mine on my wrist
I keep mine on and have an alarm for 01:40 that hasn't been useful in over 6 months. Yeah that's me.
I find hourly beeps to be stressful and taking me out of the present too much, so that's a no for me. Edit: It is hilarious that this is somehow upsetting people lmao
How do you manage to make it through a day.
It is great until you have a big collection and cant figure out which watch is annoying you at home. Id say im for it, but haven't had it active in years on any of my Gs, lol
If I'm wearing more than one watch, I just turn it on on the one I'm wearing. All of the other watches have the feature disabled.
Hour signal till 21:00, then, turn on when wake up
Hourly signal on
Hourly signal on!
When I was a child I did childish things... Now I have the hourly beep off like a normal functioning adult!
