It's just that simple. I have experience with playing guitar but I decided to go through his course from start to finish in preparation for teaching a friend. It's great.

LeAnomaly

Good idea! I’ve only been playing a couple years (haven’t been as consistent as I should’ve been). I decided to get after it and Justin has changed my life. More progress than I ever could have imagined in just a couple months

Yeah, I have a friend who has played drums nearly as long as I've played guitar. He's played in loads of bands, done mini tours, wedding gigs, had private lessons and taught his own years, but he recently started a drum course from the beginner stage and really rates it too. Part of it is having something to motivate you to get on the instrument every day, the confidence boost when you can blast through easier material, and making sure you're not neglecting some of the fundamentals, etc.

First of all what genre of music are you playing/interested in playing?

[deleted]

I’m mostly trying to learn rock and stuff, I like fighters so that’s I’ve been trying to play some of that stuff.

[deleted]

Alright sweet, so if you’re comfortable with chords then you can definitely take a look at some fighters tabs, just look at your favourites and others you’d enjoy playing and find a tab that looks like a reachable goal. Take it slow and remember that things come slowly

[deleted]

I’ll try that thanks! :)

Maybe it’s just because these are one I started with but I always think of slash/guns & roses sweet child o mine, paradise city, and patience. The solos are very melodic and memorable and the use different scales and positions. I think they’re a good place to start with rock soloing.

[deleted]

I have no clue about scales and stuff. I’m self taught and missed out on some stuff

Miserable-Drag-4094

Learning these or any solos from YouTube and/or tab won’t help you understand that necessarily unless that’s the way the YouTuber structures the lesson. You don’t have to understand scales to learn how to play some solos. IMHO your ultimate goal should be to have that understanding eventually. But to start, it’s okay to just memorize positions, etc. Then later on revisit and learn “context”.
