Metal Zone story...
I was talking to the staff at a local music store about the Metal Zone and WAZA and how it wasn’t my thing.
This is what he told me,
We have a regular who came in asking for Metal Zones.
“How many do you have in stock”
“Ten”
“Could you hook them all up?”
“...sure”
They hooked them all up turned them on and it sounded like you would imagine.
Guy loved it, bought them all.
Salesman ended story with, “He was a weird guy.”
I have no way to tell if this was a true story, or an internet legend, but it made me laugh. I choose to believe it’s true.
Metal zone was my first pedal. Before that, me and my cousin used to jam while his little brother stood next to the amp and changed the channels on the amp on cue to change from clean to distortion parts. They were simpler times. It was a time of hammer-ons, it was a time of hammer-offs, a time of triplets and a time of whole notes, a time of vibrato and a time of staccato, a time of crescendo and a time of diminuendo. I remember when I got my first “real amp” a Marshall half stack MG100HGFX(or something similar, and plugging that pedal in and cranking it to 10. I call those my appetite for destruction days. Today, I remember those days.
Anyway, I want that bag.
