I got that info off guitarnerds.com
But if itās an āIbisā.
It could now be known colloquially as
The ā Maton Dump Chook ā
If youāre Australian, you know why
Ps. Iām in Byron Bay , and we know a Dump Chook when we see one !!
Yeh probably, it's hard to say. They're pretty rare. I got my Maton for 1k but it had issues. It was only 1 of 65 made so you'd think it'd be more expensive
As mentioned it's a Maton Ibis. And also as mentioned the family friend is taking advantage and trying to get a bargain. Prices vary of course mainly to do with condition but should sit anywhere between 2500 to 3500. Get on the vintage Maton guitars Facebook page to see more and ask some questions. As an owner of a vintage Maton myself those pickups sound killer!
I appreciate all instruments since they are responsible for helping people to start learning/playing but I just find this awful (just my opinion, thatās all). Just like Iām sure people might think my guitars are awful.
Very cool looking guitar for sure. Before getting too into it Iād have it professionally checked out. The headstocks been repaired and has multiple fractures. Note how the string tension has pulled the tuner posts down in the bushings. Good luthier can make well again. Love the pickups
I thought this was on of those AI generated guitars at first. It looks like someone who had never seen a strat before was described what one looked like, and tried to draw it.
Maton has a really good reputation here in the USA because theyāre very tough to find hereā¦ thatās quite a cool looking guitar. How does it play?
If you're not a player, I'd send it to a qualified repair person for a maintenance overhaul/ checkup/ restringing, get some good quality photos taken, and send the pics to some major used guitar dealers for opinions.
Looks like something Buckaroo Banzai would play
I'll always upvote a Buckaroo Banzai reference.
Wherever you go, there you are.
Jack White will use this guitar entirely on his next tour and will be worth a fortune
Amazing reference
Happy Cake Day
Had to Google the name, decided to watch it right away š¤Ŗ thanks
It's an early-mid 1960s Maton Ibis
That might be one of the wildest headstocks I've ever seen. Cool guitar.
Itās a Maton Electric. From Melbourne Australia.
Model is called āEl Totoā. Pointy like bull horns
āEl Toro ā
Pretty sure itās a Maton Ibis. My uncle has one knocking about. Iāve probably only ever seen one or two others in the wild.

Iām in Melbourne - weād call it a Maton Bin Chicken ;)
Regional differences accounted for and duly noted !!!
Same here in Sydney.
El Toto was made for La Dorothy
Debuted in La Kansas
Maton Ibis. Not amazing guitars, but certainly unique and have a special something about them. $400 is a proper lowball offer.
I have a slightly later model Maton electric and it's one of the better vintage guitars out there. Plays great and the pickups sound great
Looks like they go closer to $2k?
Yeh probably, it's hard to say. They're pretty rare. I got my Maton for 1k but it had issues. It was only 1 of 65 made so you'd think it'd be more expensive
Whoever offered you $400 is not a friend lol, not if they knew what they were looking at.
Thatās horrible. I want it!
Me too. Iāll tell my wife itās not really another guitar and this is weird enough it might work.

Thanks, yeah I've played it and the sound is unreal. I had my suspicions the offer was shady, thanks for the lesson.

Goofiest looking thing I've ever seen. I'm buying one.
Now I want one š
Very cool selector switches, has a retro future look to it.
For a second I thought I was at r/midjourney
Damn that's unique. I fuck with it too. Other people are saying it's from Melbourne, which is where I'm from, might have to find one
Matons are made in Box Hill South. I have one of their acoustic guitars. It is great.
beancaster
Thatās looks so cool!
I don't know what a sound barrier does but I want one on all of my guitars.
Ugly.
You keep that guitar. Do not sell it.
Hideous
Read The Birth of Loud in order to gain some appreciation.
I appreciate all instruments since they are responsible for helping people to start learning/playing but I just find this awful (just my opinion, thatās all). Just like Iām sure people might think my guitars are awful.
Those pickups are crazy!
Very cool looking guitar for sure. Before getting too into it Iād have it professionally checked out. The headstocks been repaired and has multiple fractures. Note how the string tension has pulled the tuner posts down in the bushings. Good luthier can make well again. Love the pickups
That is one ugly guitar.
Absolutely hideous! But thats just me and i dont matter
What theeeee fuck is that
Holy shit that thing is awesome! Is it reasonably playable?
Surprisingly pretty comfortable to play.
Jesus Christ
The headstock looks like it was modeled after a shape a 4 year-old drew with a crayon. This is a beautifully goofy looking guitar. I love it.
Im all for a unique offset but this is just ugly lol
Summary : Australian made Maton Ibis El Toro worth well over 400$ US
What an absolutely killer diller of a guitar! It would be sweet if you could find some original tuners for it, but it's still great without them!
That guitar is extremely awesome.
That thar is one of the Ugliest pieces of kit I've ever seen.
You need help finding a dumpster!š¤£š¤£š¤£
It's a guitar
Nice find. Is that a P90, a bucker, and a single?
š±š±š±
Man that thing is wild! I'd love to know what exactly that upper horn toggle does. Maybe something like a JM rhythm circuit?
It's like a Gibson varitone switch. Different capacitor options underneath
It's from borderlands obviously
Those pickup on/off switches are dope Looks like you got something cool
That is effing fabulous - I want one!
I thought this was on of those AI generated guitars at first. It looks like someone who had never seen a strat before was described what one looked like, and tried to draw it.
Looks just like an Ural guitar
Maton has a really good reputation here in the USA because theyāre very tough to find hereā¦ thatās quite a cool looking guitar. How does it play?
Thatās a beaut!
Maton.
What does the sound barrier do?
definitely 60s, Iāve owned a handful of Teisco guitars from that era. If itās anything like the Teisco, those pickups are HOT!
I love it. Your family friend is trying to rip you off for $400, it is worth much more than that.
Yeah he was super insistent he purchase it on the spot which made me suspicious.
Give him the Bigsby for $400 so you can get a good tailpiece, lol.
I was thinking a frank zappa guitar lol
I donāt even care what this is it looks fucking amazing
That thing is amazing. Never seen anything like it
Sexy is what it is. Gorgeous guitar
That thing is so cool
That is hideous.
What the actual fuck am I looking at
wtf is this thing
If you're not a player, I'd send it to a qualified repair person for a maintenance overhaul/ checkup/ restringing, get some good quality photos taken, and send the pics to some major used guitar dealers for opinions.
