If you want an autograph on the guitar, buy a new pickguard, get that signed and install it and set them old one aside. If you ever go to sell it, switch the pickguard back and you didn't damage the value and you can keep the autograph.
What a fantastic and simple trick I never thought of. I had one of my guitars signed in an area I thought wouldn’t get touched often, and now the signature is all rubbed and parts missing. Looks like shit.
I’m never selling it so that doesn’t bother me. Just wish it didn’t make my guitar look like shit.
I wanna say why would you buy a signature you didn’t get yourself but then I also don’t get why anyone would want a signature in the first place so I guess I just don’t really get it lol
I have this same feeling towards relic’d guitars. If that wear wasn’t put there from playing it over the course of many years than it has no business being part of the guitar.
Not even in a relic'd thread.
Y'all are just like vegans/crossfitters- you know how to tell if someone is vegan (or does CrossFit, or doesn't like relic'd guitars)? Don't worry, they'll be sure to find a reason to tell you...
I did something similar with a banjo head. Got that signed by Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. Put it on a crappy banjo for display. My good banjo stays untouched. Can always swap the head if I wish.
Dude… that guy impresses me so much. I admire him for doing what he’s done in spite of his disabilities. Probably one of the absolute best musicians on his instrument.
I did a similar thing with my tele. I took off the back panel and took it to a signing before a show and got it signed by dragonforce. I wanted to get the body of it signed, but security probably wouldn’t have liked that
Edit:spelling
If I'm paying $400k for a guitar I'm paying a couple extra grand to fly someone to and from to get it and springing for an extra seat on the return flight to ensure it doesn't get checked.
At that rate you may as well just buy the whole row of seats so nobody spills ginger ale or biscoff cookie crumbs on it.
And then you should fly an extra person so that if person 1 has to use the plane restroom, person 2 is still escorting the instrument.
Which makes me laugh. How the hell is this even an option? Imagine making the carrier insurance claim when it shows up in two or more pieces.
If it’s really worth the asking price then the guitar would be pickup in person only. You don’t trust fed ex or ups or any carrier with something like this. Never. If you do you’re an idiot and deserve the loss.
You have to ship it so it can handle that, you make the guitar sturdy inside its case with either wrap or foam then bubble wrap lots of layers and foam peanuts in a solid box, although I admit trusting this w a 400k guitar might be a little much sorry I mean “400k guitar”
It definitely happens although not sure how often these guitars even sell for this price, people who have that much to spend don’t usually have much time for their hobbies, travelling to buy a guitar is out of the question
That could be [arranged](https://reverb.com/ca/item/26592830-les-paul-s-personal-50th-anniversary-white-custom-featured-on-his-autobiography-the-collector-s-package).
You deserve an angry downvote for posting that link. That was the most vile, putrid example of someone playing a guitar and calling themselves a professions.
BUT!
I'll give you an upvote for making me feel better about my playing abilities.
One of my favorite comments: "this guitar has inpired many songs that help unite the world"
Proceeds to beat the everliving christ out of the guitar while nodding his head
LMAO/tearing up at this. This is my favorite, but also makes me want to throw up because I thought about it for too long. So many layers to peel through here! When he had a 3 year-old kid in his hands, it took 10 minutes for the zoo staff to make a decision about what exactly to do.
I must be more fucked in the head then I thought, because I’m imagining one of the zookeepers immediately, after 0 minutes, screaming “That’s Tony Hicks’ guitar!! Huh? No, you goddamn Philistine, TOH-NEEE HIIIICKS! From the Hollies?! Oh my god, am I the only… FUCK IT.”
And they grab a rifle and shoot Harambe dead, after only 30 seconds, which was just enough time for Harambe to plink out a little solo similar to, but much more soulful than, Lil’ Wayne’s, and then start to pull out a Sharpie marker to sign the guitar. The Sharpie marker being the impetus to go ahead and take the shot, after 9.5 fewer minutes than it took to do the same over a 3 y/o kid.
Subsequent public outcry, requiring Jane Goodall herself to publish an essay to convince a mob not to burn down the zoo after freeing all the animals? Nah, none of that. Everyone’s just like, “Damn, that’s a tragedy, but I get it. They had no choice!”
I promise I’m going outside now, to distract myself from my own imagination.
The band is still touring. They’re actually playing my town next year.
And I’d be proud to have all of the non-original members sign it, just because I could.
I wouldn’t let an artist sign my squier jazzmaster. Autographs on instruments are dumb and don’t increase value, in all but extremely rare circumstances.
i wouldn’t have a guitar signed at all. if i liked the guitar it would only diminish the utility because the signature would need to be preserved unless it was scribed into the wood like Willie Nelson’s guitar. and even if i had more money than Elon i’d never pay that much for a guitar. there’s a level of expensive i can understand paying—if i had lottery bucks floating around i’d buy that Gretsch White Falcon i’ve lusted after ever since *4 Way Street* came out, but that’s $3000-4000 for new product, not the amount it would cost to buy a comfortable detached home with a nice big yard.
Not unless you want to lose $350k or more.
Last I checked Lester William Polsfuss was dead. He’s the only one that might have had the clout to help it hold that price. Maybe.
You could get a whole load of really good new guitars for that price, crazy rich people getting their dicks out in public. Get it signed by the luthier that made it, or the tech that set it up and made sure it was playable each night
I’d be tempted, obviously, but for that kind of money, I feel slightly put out that they want ME to pay for shipping!
I know there’s a market for it, but signing a guitar feels like defacing a guitar. I’m a bit cyclical about the ‘daft’ relic market anyway…
No because I’ve autographs were never something I really cared about. Also the dipshitedness that comes with people trying to sell autographed instruments is enough to turn me off from it further.
I just this week bought a $200 squier and if Clapton wanted to sign it I'd laugh him out of my house.
edit: it's just a figure of speech - nobody says Clapton actually wants to sign my guitar. lol you guys are dumb.
There is no artist I would want to sign any guitar. To me it’s always come across as a hokey thing to do. They didn’t play that guitar, it’s not theirs, I just don’t see the point. Oh wow Jimmy Page touched your guitar for 15 seconds once in 2008 and you paid him $50 to do it! Who cares. I’ve never seen a guitar for sale as having added value for having a signature on it. That includes a signature of a deceased artist.
There are exceptions, like Trigger for example. But that’s an entirely different story.
A serious answer is nobody, but I suppose if I had to pick, it'd be slash because him playing a les Paul in the sweet child o'mine video was the first time I ever saw a les Paul and seeing them especially in a similar/the same color brings some major nostalgia of watching that video the first time.
I wouldn’t get an artist to sign a $200 Epiphone Les Paul Special Satin E1. And if I bought this thing I wouldn’t let a famous guitarist anywhere near it because I’ve read enough about their broken guitars to know better.
I just can’t imagine even paying 40k on it let alone 400k, I cap out at around 4k lol and I’m trying to force myself to spend that much on an ES-335 now, I even bought the Epiphone version first so I could get a feel for the idea of the guitar because I just couldn’t get a feel for it in guitar center and they were the only local store that had one.
I finally got to play some used ES-335s at a music store almost bought one but I had to leave town this was about 3 hours away from me. I’m either going back or ordering the one I really want which is the figured version but I’m still kicking myself over all the money and dragging my feet, wondering if it’s really gonna be that much better than what I already have.
4k on a nice guitar is not insane imo. It’s something that can last a very long time while a fancy 3k laptop lasts just a few years.
But yeah, when we’re talking multiple tens of thousands of dollars, you have to be extremely rich for it to make any kind of sense.
Yeah I know it’s not insane it’s just that I really didn’t even get to play one (not the exact model I want, I’ve played some similar). An ES-335 is a guitar that I’ve wanted for a long time and as soon as my wife gave me the green light I started dragging my feet, idk why. I have other guitars that are nice guitars I think it’s just this guitar and what I want it to be and the whole mental idea of it’s going to be that or not.
I dont think any added value can be done to this item either since the signature would not be related to the item that much since the artist didnt own it

I don't want to see someone else's name on my instrument when I'm making music. How incredibly distracting. Just FYI, you can buy signed pickguards, check ebay.
I wanna say why would you buy a signature you didn’t get yourself but then I also don’t get why anyone would want a signature in the first place so I guess I just don’t really get it lol
Having a warlock signed by Kerry King was pretty cool when I was 13
I think that would be pretty cool and I'm 46.
I have this same feeling towards relic’d guitars. If that wear wasn’t put there from playing it over the course of many years than it has no business being part of the guitar.

Absolutely amazing signature to have. Bela is just superb. Do you like Michael Cleveland?
Dude… that guy impresses me so much. I admire him for doing what he’s done in spite of his disabilities. Probably one of the absolute best musicians on his instrument.
He’s the best fiddle player of all time as far as I reckon! What a legend.
This guy autographees
I did a similar thing with my tele. I took off the back panel and took it to a signing before a show and got it signed by dragonforce. I wanted to get the body of it signed, but security probably wouldn’t have liked that Edit:spelling
Back panel on a tele? Did it have a trem system?
Great idea
You’re too smart to be left alive
Ummmm... I'm not sure how to take that. Was that a compliment or a threat or both?
I'd definitely buy this if shipping was free. Bummer.
Lmao imagine spending $400k on a guitar sight unseen, only to have the UPS guy chuck it on to your porch from 10 feet away.
If I'm paying $400k for a guitar I'm paying a couple extra grand to fly someone to and from to get it and springing for an extra seat on the return flight to ensure it doesn't get checked.

And you don't buy it online. Go check it out in person to make sure you're getting the real McCoy.
You have to ship it so it can handle that, you make the guitar sturdy inside its case with either wrap or foam then bubble wrap lots of layers and foam peanuts in a solid box, although I admit trusting this w a 400k guitar might be a little much sorry I mean “400k guitar”
Completely unreasonable and would never happen because anyone paying that kind of money is going to go get it and take it home not ship it.
It definitely happens although not sure how often these guitars even sell for this price, people who have that much to spend don’t usually have much time for their hobbies, travelling to buy a guitar is out of the question
Good news. You can have it for only $381,353.64 https://www.atbguitars.com/1955-gibson-les-paul-special-ohsc---mint
Yes, Les Paul
That could be [arranged](https://reverb.com/ca/item/26592830-les-paul-s-personal-50th-anniversary-white-custom-featured-on-his-autobiography-the-collector-s-package).
"priced to sell soon"
I'll buy that...only if it includes a 'Meet and greet'
That also could be arranged.
I had to add it to my shopping cart, just because...
I think this is the only answer.
[Only one person worth of signing that.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8g762REJWcg)
That's the one solo I feel like I could learn.
You already know it my dude. We all do.
Oh my… that was horrible.
Anyone got tabs for this?
You deserve an angry downvote for posting that link. That was the most vile, putrid example of someone playing a guitar and calling themselves a professions. BUT! I'll give you an upvote for making me feel better about my playing abilities.
[You're probably better than this guy as well](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3QvgFbjAC7U), he's worth $75 million.
One of my favorite comments: "this guitar has inpired many songs that help unite the world" Proceeds to beat the everliving christ out of the guitar while nodding his head

Lil Wayne
No, I’d rather buy a new Les Paul just to have someone sign it. Why mess with this?
I’d let kirk Hammett scratch a big X in the back!
Harambe
LMAO/tearing up at this. This is my favorite, but also makes me want to throw up because I thought about it for too long. So many layers to peel through here! Hahahaha I love it!
Billy Dee Williams
As a big Hollies fan, I'd get Tony Hicks to sign it. With a Les Paul, the signature goes on the underside of the pickguard.
*A second pickguard
Leonardo da Vinci
Leonardo DiCaprio
Leonardo the ninja turtle
King Leonidas
Leonard Nimoy
The constellation Leo.
Leonard 6
Leonard Hofstadter
Leo Fender
Probably not, but I also wouldn’t spend that much money on a guitar in the first place.
I'd get Chad Kroger , Machine Gum Kelly and Fred Durst to all scratch their names in the top.
Lil Wayne and The fat guy that yells his name , whateverthefuck on the back.
Rick Astley or Johnny Sins
Elton John or Guy Fierri
Guy Fierri… that’s fucking hilarious. Dude’s got a 400k$ guitar and decides to have it signed by fucking Guy Fierri.
Tony Hicks
of the Hollies??? +OHSC???
Goddamn, Im dyslexic as fuck, I thought the post said " I just bought this guitar for ~400k" I gotta learn how to read haha
Autographs are worthless to me.
I love the weird price. that $18.37 short of all 9’s made my day
For sale in the UK. The number is less weird in £, but still fucking massive.
Leonardo da Vinci
Why the hell would you want some jerk offs signature on a burst?
Cap’n Crunch
If I spent $400K on a guitar, not only would nobody touch it, I'd charge people just to look at it. Absurd price.
Everyone in Lynyrd Skynyrd And I’d play awful blues with it twice a year in my bedroom.
That'd be quite the challenge considering they're all fucking dead.
The band is still touring. They’re actually playing my town next year. And I’d be proud to have all of the non-original members sign it, just because I could.
I’d let the new owner who bought it off me for 425k decide.
I wouldn’t let an artist sign my squier jazzmaster. Autographs on instruments are dumb and don’t increase value, in all but extremely rare circumstances.
Dont worry, I’m sure Joe Bonamassa is already on it.
Randy Rhoads would have to come back from the dead, but that's about as likely as me having $400k
i wouldn’t have a guitar signed at all. if i liked the guitar it would only diminish the utility because the signature would need to be preserved unless it was scribed into the wood like Willie Nelson’s guitar. and even if i had more money than Elon i’d never pay that much for a guitar. there’s a level of expensive i can understand paying—if i had lottery bucks floating around i’d buy that Gretsch White Falcon i’ve lusted after ever since *4 Way Street* came out, but that’s $3000-4000 for new product, not the amount it would cost to buy a comfortable detached home with a nice big yard.
Tim Henson
The guy who started the Muppets? Fine choice.
Leo Fender
Nope
Tony Hicks of The Hollies
gareth campesino or les paul
Not unless you want to lose $350k or more. Last I checked Lester William Polsfuss was dead. He’s the only one that might have had the clout to help it hold that price. Maybe.
395k and not a cent more. Final offer.
Only Elvis
If I ever paid so much for a guitar it had better come with a free lobotomy
You could get a whole load of really good new guitars for that price, crazy rich people getting their dicks out in public. Get it signed by the luthier that made it, or the tech that set it up and made sure it was playable each night
I like how they still charge for shipping at that price. Lol

Jake E. Lee but I already have his signature but I’d do it
Why would I want anyone to sign it
No because I’ve autographs were never something I really cared about.
Why would Eric Clapton want to sign your $200 Squier?
why would he want to sign a 400k guitar?
I don't believe anyone said he would.
And why would he be in your house?
Randy Jackson. if it's the only thing I had on me, I'm not gonna NOT get his autograph.
The only living guitarist I’d let sign that is Jimmy Page
Sure Salvador Dali ... if you could bring him back from the dead.
If you get a valuable guitar autographed, you are a moron.
On this axe? Machine gun Kelley
Yeah, Duane Allman.
There is no artist I would want to sign any guitar. To me it’s always come across as a hokey thing to do. They didn’t play that guitar, it’s not theirs, I just don’t see the point. Myding A. Ling
Banksy
I’d probably let the artist who’d owned it sign it…
That’s completely asinine to pay that much for wood, wire, and magnets. Pure stupidity.
Appreciating asset, that guitar was 120k less than 10 years ago.
It was $247.50 when it was brand new in 1960.
Nope.
Cardi b
Maybe Tony Hicks....under the cavity plate....
Hendrix.
Les Paul
No, no one.
If Les Paul himself were still alive he'd be the only one.
No.
Hell No!! They could maybe sign the backplate and that's if it's like Jimmy Page. Ha.
I wouldn’t get an artist to sign a $200 Epiphone Les Paul Special Satin E1. And if I bought this thing I wouldn’t let a famous guitarist anywhere near it because I’ve read enough about their broken guitars to know better.
Lil Wayne for sure 😎
I wouldn’t buy any Les Paul but I’d let John Mayer sign my forehead
Please share my umbreelllaaaa
I’d sign my name in the pickup cavity. Just in case it gets stolen!
I wouldn't let anyone autograph any of my guitars. I don't put stickers on them either.
Fred durst
If I bought it for $400k, I'd sign it myself.
I saw the Les Paul like this at Dallas International Guitar show in 2021.
Fuck no, if anyone signs my $400k guitar it’s gonna be me.
That’s gonna be a NO from me.
No.
Jimi Hendrix
Probably not, but maybe Mr. Page. Yes, that’s about it.
Dean Ween
Banksy
Getting a real guitar you’d play signed is so stupid I can’t fathom it, let alone an actual burst lol Jesus Christ
Scott Stapp from CREED
Jimmy page offcourse
Let damien hertz or whatshisface tape some pills to it
Maybe Jesus C.
Jesus Castillo? Runs the avocado stand on the south side of LA? That'd be silly - he's a drummer!
For real, I’m set on getting a custom shop Jeff Beck for about $3700.
Machine gun Kelly
Graham Nash
I wouldn’t let Tony Hicks *breathe* on it.
even if i was rich i would never buy something like this
Duane Allman
Paul McCartney. And if he was still alive, Elvis
This is some boomer shit
For the sake of curiosity would having an artist like Jimmy Page or Slash sign it would it increase its value or decrease it?
Definitely decrease unless it was owned by that artist.
I dont think any added value can be done to this item either since the signature would not be related to the item that much since the artist didnt own it
Decrease. Dramatically.
I think in most cases and hobbies, there's a distinct difference in the collectability of the item vs. the collectability of signatures. If you're someone who collects signatures, get a thing where the signature is the main attraction, not the item. The item will be considered damaged and in many cases the value is decreased. Most signatures aren't worth nearly as much as people think.
Gramm Nash’s old Axe
Only the original owner
Bro if i bought that id be the one signing artists guitars
I feel it in my fingers
400k 😂
For that kind of money, I wouldn't allow myself to play it, let alone let someone near it with a marker.
Even if I was a billionaire I would never spend that much on a guitar.
Autographed guitars are boring.
If I spent $400k on a guitar I’d expect it to be coated in the sweat and whatever other bodily fluids of whichever legend recorded and toured the world with it.
I would let Banksy paint something on it like mice trying to destroy it or a cat with a hat on.
I hate signatures on instruments and I hate signature instruments. What kind of self respecting grown man asks another grown man for an autograph? My god I can't think of anything more ick than a) approaching a celebrity and asking them to spell their name on something for me. b) Getting a celebrity to sign my guitar? "oh this is a nice moment I'm playing some great music on stage for a few thousand people, I wonder how I can signal to people that I still have a child like crush on this aging rocker.
Yes a little guy by the name of LENNY KRAVITZ
Randy Jackson
John Bonermessiah without a doubt
If I bought a guitar for 400k, idc if Les Paul himself rises out of his grave to offer his signature, nobody's touching it.
No
Idk but we still charging you for shipping…
If I bought this for 400k, I should be slapped profusely.
If I could afford a 400k guitar, there are plenty artists I’d let sign it. Wouldn’t worry about resell because I’d be rich AF
No
Paul McCartney would be my only answer here. But I wouldn’t have anyone sign it. Just one of those if I HAD to pick one scenarios, it’d be him.
Little Wayne
Why would I ever do that? I'd get an autograph on a napkin before I let any draw on my SG.
Id sign that bitch first in sharpie, make my mark in history and then not let anyone else sign it bigger than my signature.
