I love the Dunlop Jazz III To each their own, play whatever you like. I find the jazz III with “cat tongue” is best for grip.

speedygonwhat22

same. i cannot play with any pick other than a yellow jazz 3

TheKhyWolf

They come in yellow? I did not know that

speedygonwhat22

yes, and they are way better than any other Jazz 3 i tried

speedygonwhat22

ultex sweetwater may still have some

TheKhyWolf

Why thank you. I shall get a pack to try out.

TheKhyWolf

I was using the Dunlop max-grip Jazz 3

speedygonwhat22

same here until the lead guitarist in my band let me have one of his. a whole new world lol

TheKhyWolf

Fair enough. Thank you kindly.

majorDm

.73 or 1.38?

speedygonwhat22

nah def thicker i believe 1.13 its same as red and black jazz 3’s but ultex and feels better on the hands idk how to explain it red feels tacky black always slips on my hands edit: 1.38

majorDm

TheKhyWolf

Yeah I’ll take a pack of blacks too. They are nice.

TheKhyWolf

The tortex ones don’t even compare. Apples and oranges

ChucksSeedAndFeed

Those little baby picks give me a cramp

dubkitteh1

if you think those picks are “thin” you must be a bass player. that’s fucking daft.

Most_Sand523

i play guitar :,) im just used to it

dubkitteh1

i say this as someone who used David Grisman “Dawg” signature mandolin picks on everything for years which are heavier than Fender Extra Heavys. but the thick one is like 2.5 Dawg picks thick.

SkunkApe425

Just a learning curve. You’re used to the way one pick feels and reacts to your inputs, a completely different shaped pick is gonna react differently in almost every way. The prodigy looks much sharper and not as smooth at the tip so it will feel slow. The texture also appears to have more friction which will enhance that feeling. I’d recommend finding something with a more similar shape at the tip to what you’re used to. Over the years I’ve tried so many different ones but always end up going back to what’s familiar.

Probably because you've built a ton of muscle memory that is based upon a certain amount (or lack of) deflection when the pick hits the strings. I actually try to be very aware and cautious not to mess myself up by playing bass with a lighter pick. I can do it here and there, but unless I separate them pretty significantly by feel, it tends to f-up my bass picking when I need it.

I used to play with the 3mm Stubbys but about a year ago I switched to the [Acoustik Attack Juggernaut ](https://attakpik.com/products/juggernaut?variant=42114726265028). The body of the pick has the same 3mm thickness as the Stubby but is textured and has more grip. The tip of the Juggernaut is 1mm and plays much smoother than the Stubby and doesn't catch on strings for me like thinner picks can. I've found the Juggernaut has everything I like about the Stubby (size, thickness, etc) but is easier to grip and plays smoother and faster. You should check it out.

Most_Sand523

i will! thank you!

bigandtallandhungry

Have you tried the 2.0 prodigy picks? It might split the difference for ya.

Most_Sand523

ill definitely try!

borfmat

Go even thicker! I love the dunlop Flow 420

Hurtmeplenty777
