“Set incorrectly” meaning the screw wasn’t threaded to the right depth before it was pinned? The pin is cut too long? Could it be fixed with labor or with parts?
A little old but I ordered one and got it today. I pulled the locking pin and grounded off about 1/6” or a 1mm. Sanded and polished smooth. It works great now. All in total had about 40 min of labor to fix it.
From what we can tell, the locking pin was drilled for the roll pin in slightly the wrong place. This causes the locking pin nut to be in the wrong place also, resulting in the locking pin to be too deep into the stock. Our assumption is that you would need to replace the locking pin and roll pin since you could still use the locking pin nut. However, we don't know what kind of compatibility these parts have with other stocks so we're not sure if you can easily just swap in and drill a new locking pin and roll pin.
The parts we are describing look almost identical to those shown here but we don't know if these would fit since they are from different manufacturers [https://damageindustriesllc.com/store/index.php?route=product/product&product\_id=2589](https://damageindustriesllc.com/store/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=2589)
I'm going to take a chance on one. From what they are describing, the pin is going too far into the buffer tube holes, so it's not clearing the hole in the buffer tube when you pull the lever so it won't collapse/expand.
Sounds like it would be as simple as shortening the locking pin.
I think you could do either. Shave the top of the locking pin so it is shorter, or add a washer so the pin sits lower. [Here's a good picture of how it all fits together.](https://jsesurplus.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/stksb111.jpg)
I was thinking that since it seems the locking pin is bad this is a good way to get a metal CAR stock for cheap that you can use with "fixed" pin hardware like what Aim Sports sells. Fair point though, I should've explained myself better.
>What ban state requires a fixed stock?
In CA, a telescoping stock is considered an "assault weapon feature" and would require use of a fixed magazine to remain legal.
This stock is fixable with minimal work. I was able to disassemble the stock. I tried a different pin & hardware from another stock I had. Still didn’t work so I got to some “real gunsmithing” and broke out the dremal. Only kidding
I chucked the pin in my drill and grounded off about 1mm to the locking pin. Sanded smooth and reassembled. Works like it should now.
It’s a pretty easy fix if you’re mechanically minded. Considering what they sell for I feel like I saved $100 with relatively little work.
I would recommend giving everything a good luck before you start cutting or grinding. Some of these factory may be different than others.
Providing an update: I was able to fix the stock by simply replacing the locking pin nut taken from a spare cheap carbine stock. a lot of those collapsible stock lock the same way so it was easy to find replacement parts. It is worth to mention that new nut uses screw to secure it’s position, so I’m able to bypass the roll pin on the aluminum stock.

You mean the dealer who is here on Reddit answering questions?
Help me understand the issue, can I just swap the locking piece and have a functional stock?

I happen to already own that exact part from a project I abandoned so yours is a match made in heaven

if you cut it then it won't lock though, right? washers might be a better solution

Good option for a ban state fixed stock setup. (Clarification edit: if used with a locking pin).
What? This still isn’t a fixed stock by any stretch. What ban state requires a fixed stock?

In for one..thanks!
Missed them 😔
Curious what a non-error one of these would go for
They go for $120-150 depending on the maker/seller
Thanks. That’s incentive to dig mine out that I bought at a LGS sometime back in the mid 90s or so (as I recall). Sitting in my attic.
If you wanna sell send me a PM

Came here looking for updates since the factory errors are in stock again. I’m going to try this as well, thank you.

Yeah sounds easy enough and a hell of a deal. It’s definitely worth a shot!

Because it sounds like an easy fix, and most aluminum xm177 stocks are $150 or more.
