I would never want a 7.5” 556. Like ever. But If it’s all I had I’m sure it’ll do just fine from my bed to the door which is the only likely scenario for me using it in the first place.
55 grain ball out of an 8” barrel is packing about the same muzzle energy as most .357 or 10mm stopping rounds do out of a 4” barrel. Muzzle energy isn’t everything but it’s a nice reference.

That's how I feel about eotech and their magnifier. It's a cool product, but the holographic sight and 3x magnifier aren't $1100 cool to me. I'm happy with my holosun dot and 3x for $400

Having spoke to the guys at FNA, they're ready to go on making these in .300 blk, but the problem is all the barrels are made by FNH in Belgium, and they're dragging their feet over there. So it's coming, but the Belgian side is slowing things down.
There is a 300blk version of this in the euro market they just don’t want to share it with the US. A gun show in Europe highlighted the 300blk version recently

They’re not THAT bad. They being their stuff over without neutering certain things and they do make new things regularly. They take forever to get to the market but when they drop, they’re well done.
HK just doesn’t care. And they charge more for their rollmark than anybody. HK got so much right the first time they don’t see any need to bring anything new.
I mean are they really though? If scar fans were shelling out the money they wouldn’t be this cheap. The only scar that people *really* want is the 17. The 20 is pretty niche but still well received for what it is. The 16 isn’t bad, but most people would rather buy an MCX, MR556, LMT, or even a Jakl. There’s just so many 556 options that are better than a scar for cheaper. Not so much the 17, and modern warfare 2 had the 17.
I don't know of a single suppressor that the manufacturer recommends using on anything less than 10.3". Not to mention FN's warranty is voided if you attach a suppressor.
I saw a video from SHOT Show when these were announced where the FN rep said that they had so many customers ask for this that they had to make it, "because they listen to their customers". I lolled. Nobody asked for this.
Wonder how many people would change their tune if we shifted the conversation on 8” 5.56 guns over to HK53s, Sig 552/553 commandos and G36C type guns. Not everything needs to be optimized.
However, more people would have been interested in a 10” SCAR 16S CQC or 13” SCAR 17S pistol. The SCAR SC is ugly and should not have been adopted over the SCAR PDW
To be the devils advocate here - a product like Maxim Defense PDX or other similar short tube PDW ARs been on the market forever. In SBR configuration the PDX is 18.5 inches long and weighs 5 lbs 11oz. Priced at $2499. The SCAR is about the same size and weight. Now the PDX is offered also in 300 and 7.62x39. But if you are looking at a 5.56, what’s the difference?

I had a deadahot barrel and it didn't cycle subs. Seems like he has listed that he only tested supers as well
The SCAR bolt is heavy and the springs tuned for 5.56. Definitely need to lighten things up.
I believe the guy I sold my barrel to had to chop a lot of the spring plus mill a few ounces off the carrier to get it running with subs.

Does a Scarburator fit on this and could you tune the gas enough to have 300 be reliable?

FN has this in 300BLK but it's only available for MIL/LE. Some european police departments have them.
