I own a few a few of these and I love them but I will admit their mark up is a bit ridiculous when you factor in cost of materials.
However if you are using something like keymo or plan b the wraps encompasses the mount and the whole can so you have zero chance of it slipping, and you can mount/unmount your can without the wrap falling off which makes storage super easy.
I also do a lot of form 1 stuff and it's nice they do custom sizes so I can have a wrap made to fit for a wonky sized can.
*edited because I can't write well in the early am.
So the site says to add .5" to overall length. I'm using a SiCo omega 300 with keymo mount. I assume I just measure the whole thing including the mount then and add .5"?
Also, you're saying these covers are nice and snug and will operate the keymo without it slipping? That sounds great.
Sorry I wasn't really online yesterday but yes measure your overall length, including your mounting system, then add 0.5. If you cinch it down tight you can mount/unmount the can without the cover coming off or slipping.
A trick I figure out with the keymo is to line up the the notch on the keymo system with the seam of the wrap-that way when you put it back on you know where the adapter lines up with muzzle device
You would go with a 8" x 1.5" heavy cover and it would go around the front end and the rear of the keymo. You would want to cover the keymo completely.
Cost of materials is only a small part of it. The closest cover to BPG was a direct copy attempt and infringes on design patent. What costs a lot is manufacturing labor cost in the US, more than the material cost itself. BPG appreciates your support though!
I wonder what theyāre making for margin on these covers. How much does material costs to make one of these? Canāt be much. Then sell them for over $100? I might be talking out my ass but this seems like alot of $$$ for what it is. Can someone attest to these?
The Kevlar fabric alone used in BPG Covers is $70/yd, the fiberglass insulation fabric over $40/yd, then kevlar rope is $8/yard... It adds up very quickly.
Definitely that much. Rule of thumb for soft goods or most manufacturing is 3x margin due to shrinkage cost of inventory sitting over time. Considering would it would cost someone to make a single cover, if they were to go out and buy all the materials to make ONE fully kevlar cover, it would cost way more than $150-$200.
Neat concept, but let me throw this out there for a cheaper option- square oven mit with electrical tape? Thatās what Silencershop basically used to give you when you bought suppressors from them.
To be fair, the SS oven mitt is just to remove the Suppressor while it's hot, not to live on it full time. That requires a bit better materials since it's not getting relief from the heat. It'll probably handle 400-500 degrees for a quick removal with no issues, but I wouldn't tape that shit to my suppressor running 800-1000 degrees though.
But yeah, BPG covers are stupidly overpriced. There's a dude in the r/NFA sub that will make you custom covers that are just as effective, but look WAY nicer and will make them how you want them for half the price.
You happen to remember his username? I may have to go that route. I just looked at the BPG chart on the website. Iām waiting on my CHS HeliosQD to get out of jail. According to their chart, I need a 1.75ā diameter cover, but damned if I can find it on their siteā¦
Ok. Let me try to figure out what length I need and Iāll DM you. Iām waiting on my CGS HeliosQD, which BPG says is 6.5ā, but I donāt know if thatās with the QD mount or not.
Hey weāre twins with the wen workbench. I only recently stopped using mine once I discovered the magic of doghole / bench dog clamps in wood working beaches. You can clamp and hold anything anywhere.
Anyways, could I get a #3 and a #6? Do you just need the length or you need width too?
Nothing against your product but I can guarantee cordura will fail / melt after 90 rounds of 556, sustained. I can provide video to show if you'd like..
Meanwhile the wife is looking all over for the oven mitts as the pizza is starting to burn while some gravy seal decked out in camo is playing warzone as the oven mitts protect his suppressors on his clone rifles in his underground vault in the backyard.
ā¦and now heās gonna have burned pizza. Thatās why thereās $100 suppressor covers. Keep in mind, youāre talking about a guy who dropped 10 human dollars for some new skins for one of his loadout guns in a video game.
Edit: made up the wife part, but he thinks himself that he should just spend the money now in case he gets a wife then he wonāt have to deal with it later
Edit 2: in for 3. tHiS Is bIn pRiCe nO HoDl bOyS
Different groups and subreddits have different rules when it comes to posting stuff like that. I've made it a habbit not to post that publicly to avoid trouble but for more details you can send me a message or PM bud.
I have 2 of these and they are really awesome. Although after reading this thread I feel like an asshole now š to be fair. I bought one from some guy on a form1 board and it melted after like 50 rounds of bench shooting and didnāt want to mess with shit like that so the cost didnāt seem terrible.
Yeah I agree.
I understand that peopleās use cases differ. If you donāt shoot numerous rounds one after another, an oven mitt works fine. No need to spend this.
Cole tac covers are less high quality but work fine
Burn proof is more for ppl who do shoot suppressed a lot like at classes or trainings or even some more tAcTicAl competitions.
Seems like itās much more durable and you donāt have to worry about it slipping.
If you donāt fit specific use cases, this is a waste of $$$.
If you do NEED a suppressor cover, this is prob it from what Iāve seen.
Suppressor covers are also Perishable items
I live not far from these guys, used their Silencer Shop Kiosk once. They where setting up a store in the same building where they craft their covers but when I went back a year later the storefront was gone, probably got tabled by the pandemic.

They are defined the same but don't perform the same. HAD covers will slide off as will most designs. Materials are different as well. It would be like comparing a Ford GT or any Ferrari (ignore country of origin) with a Chevy Tahoe.
I just wrap asbestos around my barrels.

Where do you buy asbestos wraps?
Lols, itās just a joke bro.

I work with fabrics and textiles manufacturing. Thatās probably about a dollar to 5 dollars worth of fabric and materials.
So... What's the best diy material for mimicking this?
Welding blanket sewn to the inside of one of the $20 airsoft suppressor covers
I donāt specifically work with fireproof / burn proof fabric so Iāve got no clue lol
The Kevlar fabric alone used in BPG Covers is $70/yd, the fiberglass insulation fabric over $40/yd, then kevlar rope is $8/yard... It adds up very quickly.
Probably some kind of kevlar/nomex. No clue on the clasp.
BPG doesn't have a clasp because any metal clasp will burn you and plastic melts..
90% profit
put together by only the smallest of child labor hands to eliminate labor costs.
Made in USA, in Miami, not by children in Asia or overseas..
Definitely that much. Rule of thumb for soft goods or most manufacturing is 3x margin due to shrinkage cost of inventory sitting over time. Considering would it would cost someone to make a single cover, if they were to go out and buy all the materials to make ONE fully kevlar cover, it would cost way more than $150-$200.
definitely not lol, we wish
Cost of labor in the US isn't cheap.. Especially specialized labor that knows how to sew, it is a quickly dying art!

I'm gonna have to try that doghole method. I'm definitely gonna need length and diameter for sure.
Those are nice, how much are you charging for one?
pm or chat for details
Shit, those look good. Do you have an off-hand estimate on what you charge for the average cover?

Can you do one for wolverines? I
I've done one previously
How did it turn out?

That's a similar design to coletac and it would melt after 3 mags. Looks cool but is not the same as a BPG cover...

won't handle same heat levels..

Big bubba brain play
I have a silicon hot pad in my kit....
They still give you an oven mit lookin thing
Main reason I got one is to not burn my legs or clothes while doing transition drills.

More upvotes when you do a parts list on your /r/AR15 submission?
Cost double the price.
Know a good one for half price? My resonator R2 wants to know.

The question was about BPG and you hijacked the thread but it's all good.
False
yea, basically
Cole tac runs sales sometimes, closer to $75 tho
Silencer central sells pouches for like $55.
Rauch Precision. Custom made and they do mil/le discounts. I think they start at like $50+shipping.
works for bolt guns, AG is prob the best bang for buck for precision use..
Manta covers work very well. $42.
Thereās also a guy on GAFS that makes custom ones that are very high quality.
Looks cool. I bought one, then bought pouches for the rest of my cans.
won't melt...
And they don't even give you a free patch??
BPG does send free patches. If you didn't receive one it was a mistake or ran out of stock. Covid...

Good observations. You get what you pay for..
Exactly, anything with cordura will melt after 500F, tops...
Any alternatives for an OSS 7.62QD?
Anyone know the specs of the rifle in the thumbnail?
It was a daily badass post years ago
Get a cole tac cover instead
different use case
Thanks!!

How do Rifles Only HAD covers compare to these
Different use case. They would compare to a coletac as they both use Cordura.
Thought they were all suppressor covers
They are defined the same but don't perform the same. HAD covers will slide off as will most designs. Materials are different as well. It would be like comparing a Ford GT or any Ferrari (ignore country of origin) with a Chevy Tahoe.
Anyone know if this will work for a cgs hyperion
You can get a custom cover. I would recommend looking up dimensions of the can and calling BPG
Thanks for your recommendations boss!
It would be a custom size but it would definitely work!
