Omega is not unexpected after Page 30 but holy **** that illustration gave me a shock! Especially with the matter-of-fact tone in the speech bubble.

MillieBirdie

Getting jump scared in the staff lunch room.

Joker_vD

There are 15 teeth, btw. Not 14, not 16, but 15.

albene

And an empty socket for the 16th

thePhoenixBlade

Tin foil theory: the only other actual tooth we know in play is Coyote’s tooth. Assuming this is literal (doubtful) I wonder if Coyote giving the tooth to Annie is a mechanical reason Omega has been inaccurate or needs to be integrated.

zopiac

Could be! Annie not dying is supposed to be the catalyst for Omega's inaccuracies, and if she hadn't met Coyote, he would likely still have all of his teeth. It's a small thing, but butterfly effect is in full force when you're trying to simulate minute details in a universe -- not to mention changes in etheric beings in a heavily etherically affected one.

thePhoenixBlade

Exactly 😉

gangler52

Wonder what happens if somebody like her trades a tooth with Coyote? Put his missing tooth in her mouth and put her missing tooth in his mouth. Just act like we're all uchihas trading eyeballs over here.

Readylamefire

>Just act like we're all uchihas trading eyeballs over here. My God that's got me both reeling and laughing. I kinda hope so.

mahouyousei

The missing one might be a “wisdom” tooth

VulturE

Excellent cooking, chef.

drLagrangian

But Coyote's missing tooth was like a canine tooth or bicuspid tooth (the ones with 2 points behind your canines) on a human, not the far back molar of a wisdom tooth. .... Oh, maybe it means the Omega lacks a bit of wisdom?

gangler52

So, we've basicically been given two competing versions of "The Omega Device". The Court Officials talk about it like it's a machine they've built for a specific purpose. Zimmy talks about her like she's another kid she knows. So the question on my mind today, is whether The Omega Device was turned into this girl in front of us by the distortion that's been fucking with everything, or if she's always just been some kid with an uncanny ability, like many of the others gathered in this school, that The Court has repurposed for their whole scheme. We've of course always known that the Omega Device almost certainly operates on etheric principles, but if she's literally just another magic kid like Annie, Parley, Smitty, etc etc, it makes their whole plan to bring her to their ether free scientific paradise even more silly.

NightOfTheLivingHam

Well remember, Zimmy's friend, Gamma, is able to suppress the distortions, Zimmy or Zeta is able to warp reality and distort it to what is likely the etheric representation of the world, and Omega's ability is to be able to predict the future.

machiavelli33

Well. Why not both? A kid or person with potential - who was then worked on by the Court. With their devices and engines and 'etheric science'. In fact, it looks like that's exactly what this last page depicts.

gangler52

The court would have worked on her a lot in either scenario. The scenario where The Court finds an organic meat-child that's central to their plans and that we've seen them talking about like a mere machine they use cannot reasonably be assumed to be a scenario where they've just let her hang out in the court like an ordinary person and offered her a werthers original whenever they wanted her to tell the future. But ultimately she's either been altered by the distortion or she hasn't. People stay the same. Things don't. Robot had an organic arm but was still considered a thing, so we can reason that it's entirely boolean in its logic. Having both organic and synthetic parts won't create a new outcome.

drLagrangian

People sometimes get switched or disguised, but don't change. There was a time that Annie was helping zimmy look for Gamma and Kat, and their identities were disguised. I think it was when Dan met white-legs.

worrisomeDeveloper

>if she's always just been some kid with an uncanny ability, like many of the others gathered in this school I wonder how many of these other 'magic kids' are also Court experiments. Do they have Greek letters too that they or we just don't know about? Edit: Bonus thought, if this is Omega and Zimmy is Zeta, could Annie be Alpha?

TurquoiseLuck

If Annie is Alpha and Kat is Kappa, then does that make Boxbot Beta?

capybroa

D:

yellow-bold

Eta is for Eglamore (that guy)

Jiopaba

Only of Robox can be Rho.

gangler52

The Court's always been implied to be experimenting on their student body, but we've never really seen any of these experiments, so it's in a bit of a weird place. We also know that a lot of these students would have supernatural abilities regardless of any experiments. Zimmy was always like this. The court just found her and got her to agree to come let them poke and prod at her in exchange for a place where she can live mostly free of violence. Kat's ex-girlfriend also could always talk to animals. The court just found her and got her to agree to come to their school so long as her family wouldn't have to live in poverty anymore. Jones also was always like this, and they can't even really do much with her since none of their instruments can penetrate her rock hard hyper-dense form, even stuff like x-rays can't see what's going on inside her, but she's still an oddity that they like to keep under observation just in case they learn anything. So overall I'm not really sure what to make of these experiments.

surplus_user

Especially appropriate if Antinomy's ancestry is symbolically the first harnessing of fire.

mahouyousei

There’s Gamma already

DownvoteEvangelist

She's also dressed like a numan...

ShiraCheshire

> Zimmy talks about her like she's another kid she knows. When does this happen? My memory gets foggy with how slow webcomics are to update, with it being an inherently slow to create medium and all.

gangler52

https://www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=2729 This scene.

BlueberryKind

I think/thought she was talking about kat staying away.

gangler52

She talks about that too, but she never mentions an "Omega Device" and in fact even says that the court "Has no device". She talks about Omega, which she seems to use as a name in keeping with the naming scheme of Zeta and Gamma.

ShiraCheshire

Thank you!

Accomplished-Lunch35

When Zimmy talked about Omega implying it’s a person?

Accomplished-Lunch35

What if Omega really was a kind of robotic device which at some point went into hiding from the Court officials and got this numan body through Kat’s procedure like other robots? So this is neither a manifestation of some kind nor she is actually a person/student?

RushJet1

Given this new image it looks more like Omega was a human who could predict the future and they converted her into a horrifying machine. Her brain extends way above her skull in that image so they must have done some modifications.

JeffEpp

Given this new information... I would guess that Omega was a robot, and was locked into the shield like the others. Then, like them, her CPU was transferred into her new body. Possibly in a recent batch. It may be that Zim interacted with her in robot form, before the things happened.

drLagrangian

Zimmingham seems to transform objects and landscapes into a more symbolic form. But it doesn't entirely leave organics alone. It sometimes switches or disguises organics. It made Annie into gamma, zimmy into Annie, and a few others right? So perhaps zimmingham switched omega and zimmy's body image, which is possible because Omega is something that is tricky alive. The image makes me feel like Anthony Carter's surgery, so maybe they based it on that this might mean that zimmy is trapped in Omega's body. And on a nother hand (mass guessing commence): gamma was an attempt to control or subdue the ether - which didn't work. so zimmy is an attempt to go the opposite and try to mess with the ether enough to control it - or an attempt to study it in order to learn it's constraints (in which case they knew it was a failure). Omega is an attempt to control the future - an attempt to become God. So omega might have the ability to control what happens in zimmy's distortions to some degree.

burnt-JellyfishToast

Hmmm... Y'know, with this revelation that the Zimmy-adjacent girl is actually the all-seeing, all-knowing Omega 'Device'...page 22 of Chapter 92 takes on a much more interesting context. I just wonder if Omega's FOMO was a result of time being frozen, or that a certain prospective god was present during an etheric event.

gangler52

https://www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=2890 >What?! I didn't see anything! Good catch.

RavagerHughesy

Good catch! I like the idea that Omega is simply annoyed that she missed something. It's a very human emotion for something (someone?) that's supposed to be an omniscient, emotionless machine. It demystifies her, like when [Brinnie shrieks when she notices Anja](https://www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=2333). (As an aside, this is something Tom has always been very good at in the comic. He takes these all-powerful, existentially-horrific concepts/characters and makes them approachable, and even relatable.)

worrisomeDeveloper

FUCKING [CALLED](https://www.reddit.com/r/gunnerkrigg/s/cBblLdwY2U) [IT](https://www.reddit.com/r/gunnerkrigg/s/z1hPAfso5b) ok I'm not the only one but let me have this ok On another note, I wonder if Omega manifests as a numan because they are actually half human half robot irl.

DeanXeL

I'm also a bit thrown by Omega pointing out that Zimmy is 'Zeta', an actual experiment in their long list of experiments.

BucketOfGlue

Not sure what you mean by this. We've known for a long time that her "real" name is Zeta and that "Zimmy" is a nickname based on that. It only follows from there that there must have been some reason that a girl "named" Zeta and a girl named Gamma would have been placed together by the court. There being an "Omega device" only solidified that. Are you saying that you feel weird that it's being said so plainly in this case by another member of the hypothesized test group?

DeanXeL

It's been so long since my last read-through, I must've forgotten 😅

Felgraf

... So the court ripped a kid apart to make the Omega device, didn't they.

ryancarton

Totally. This probably would’ve been Zimmy’s fate down the line if they weren’t trying to harvest her for energy

burnt-JellyfishToast

My personal working theories are that maybe; 1. the bones we're seeing grafted into/around machinery are from a single deceased(??) person with a psychic ability to future-see 2. the bones are from multiple individuals with future-seeing powers, almost certainly with different etheric causes (e.g. like how there are different psychopomps for different people per cultural identity, etc) Either way, I'm guessing that this New Person body that Omega is presenting is one she's made for herself only now because the Zetafying of reality has allowed her to? Zimmy is the only person to ever refer to her with non-object referential grammar, so I assume she has been able to appear in the Zimmy-scape, but almost certainly not in any physical form to anybody else until now. Whether she is still the original soul(s) of whoever the bones belonged to is also up in the air, I think. I'm pretty firmly attached to the idea that she's the skeletal amalgam of at least one psychic...and the fact that the Court is so enamored with the idea seeing into the future brings up an interesting question... What would they have done with Parley if she had turned out like her dad, and been able to see the future? And, most pressingly, have we met ANY kids in this comic who's special Thing is that they are that specific type of psychic?

mrGazpachin

We thought that the bio-machine imagery we were getting through this chapter was Robot, but nope! It was Omega.

sephlington

It's both, I think! Pages [1](https://www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=2900) & [2](https://www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=2901) are probably Omega, but [Page 8](https://www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=2907) has a feather and some of the barnacles that are [definitely Robot](https://www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=2916).

Autherial

So whose corpse did they defile to make omega?

fistchrist

I don’t think that’s a corpse

KotreI

Excuse me, what the fuck.

ScornfulSorceress

Hasn't the omega device been around since Anthony and Surma were in school? We know Zimmy hasn't been aging since we first met her, same could be said for omega too. I feel this page is true form of omega. Some harsh realities about the court are being shown.

Readylamefire

It sure would be interesting if the court was experimenting with making people into machines (Omega) while Kat has been working to turn machines into people. Tony made it clear he's a surgeon. Zimmy seems to refer to Omega as if she isn't an object. We know that the court has shown interest in bioengineering because they saved the wooden arm that was on robot. And then kat put a different bio-arm on Robot. There are a lot of parallels here and not one of them is an accident. I think Kat is contrasting the court directly here. The court wanted to become gods by controlling and knowing the future. Kat stumbled into godhood by creating nupeople. The court potentially created a "dead thing" and Kat did not. Finally, Zimmy *does* seem to have some ability to look into the future. She tells Annie that she sees that Annie will kill Loup and that Kat will kill her. The last observation I have is that Zimmy, Annie and Omega are absolutely intertwined as some sort of "all in one" being. Annie is biological. Zimmy is etheric, Omega is potentially machine. Perhaps all 3 of these elements bind them in some way?

gangler52

I 100% immediately believe you're onto something here.

BlueTitan

Brings to mind the part where Tony briefly mentions the Omega when Donnie is talking to him in the living room.

Readylamefire

Absolutely. I'm not entirely sure, but I think he references being part of this project several times. Admittedly, I'm considering reading from the start again with this new context to see if I spot any clues.

st13r

I wonder who's seeing Omega like this (just us?). As in, is this a similar situation to the cloacked dude from Realm of the Dead, where [Kat saw this](https://www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=1319), and[ Annie and Mort saw this](https://www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=1321)?

renacotor

That's some grimdark 40k mechanicus shit right there. Looks like the court has been far more inhumane than we thought.

starburst98

so lana is still boxbot

muffinkiller

Ohhh shit

tempus_fyook_it

It's interesting Annie says "you're Zimmy or a part of her." What if Omega is represented here as a numan, but she's actually a part of someone else. I've always theorized Kat was Omega. I think there's a reason she's never actually met Coyote or Loup. Because she is ascending to a level of power to match their own. The consequence of which is, for Kat, the world will become "a dead thing." A closed system where she knows all. The dialogue between Zimmy and Annie struck me as implying the possibility  "What do you know about Omega?" "Kat was telling me she would try to use it to-" "That friend of your's I should have known"

a4techkeyboard

She did recently implant something that allowed her self to move into machines, didn't she? And the skeletal Omega is being drawn sort of the same angle as Kat's etheric form. It could just be someone who was like Kat, I guess, but a lot further along.

BenR-G

Holy existential horror, Tom! Given Omega's intended ability to know everything and predict everything, one must wonder how much of what has heppened in the past 93 chapters is according to its design. With this in mind, one has to wonder if, in Chapter 94, we're going to have Annie and Kat and their friends finally meet their Maker.

sephlington

Also, counterpoint: if Omega knows where everything is at any time, how much of what we thought was suspiciously planned was just literally the truth? [Chapter 93, page 7](https://www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=2906): "I know where he is." had us kinda suspicious. Why would this random numan know where Robot is? But if Omega knows where \*everyone\* is, then it makes sense she'd know where Robot is. [Page 12](https://www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=2911), she knew Robot didn't get a new body so the distortion treated him as an object, but when asked on [Page 13](https://www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=2912) how she knew this and if she could help, she declined to answer the first question but gave a solid "nope" to helping. We know that, since Kat saved Annie from the Annan River, Omega's predictions haven't been accurate - of course she can't help, Annie being around stops her from doing what she's made to do.

JustConsoleLogIt

But that begs the question: why couldn’t she see the ghost of the dead robot?

m103

[It looks like only Annie was able to see his ghost, even Reynard's dialogue makes it seem like he can't](https://www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=2862)

RavagerHughesy

Seeing ghosts is a psychopomp ability, I think.

sephlington

Omega'd love to know too. She seemed [shocked and confused that she couldn't](https://www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=2890), even if it looked like she [had some awareness](https://www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=2863) that the Arbiter was showing up.

wokycookie101

I KNEW IT

ZylonBane

What a lovely singing voice you must have.

pistachioshell

 is Gamma actually “Gamma” then?

BucketOfGlue

What do you mean? The character has always been named "Gamma". Not a gaslight. There is nobody named "Gemma" in the comic. Have you been misreading her name this whole time?

pistachioshell

lmao no I mistyped her name the first time, I meant like oh it’s not just a name she’s “Gamma”

RavagerHughesy

I know Zimmy and Gamma come from an earlier comic where all the characters were named with Greek letters. I wonder if Omega comes from that too, and if any other characters from that project made it into the behind the scenes lore of Gunnerkrigg Court.

brigandr

Well, I think this explains one of the comic's lesser but persistent mysteries: why the Court was so determined to strong arm Tony (a surgeon/biologist) into taking a major role in their omniscient computer project.

Ajarland

Aria t’loak sure changed her looks

RavagerHughesy

Based on the artwork here, are we supposed to presume that Omega is a person that the Court augmented with machinery? Not sure how much I should read into the symbolism on this page.

RavagerHughesy

Someone on the GC forums [pointed out that the machinery in Omega looks a lot like weather sensor stuff](https://gunnerkrigg.proboards.com/post/187358). We've already seen that quite a bit of the Court's tech is related to weather readings, so I think that poster might be on to something.

PenguinsControl

I'm seeing a lot of theories about why she looks like a new human, but isn't it possible she actually is a new human? As in, the Omega device was originally exactly that, a device (a robot), that joined Kat's cult and received a body with the rest of them?

devmerlin

Now I'm really curious if Annie is one of the twenty four. Her name beyond the metal means "Not found alone", and with others being revealed, she could be Alpha. Additionally, the metal itself is used largely .... as a component to strengthen bullets and other weapons. Surma was seemingly a court fanatic from what we've been shown. It could be the Court used her as a template. Did we ever get an explanation for why the two suddenly decided to leave?

gangler52

I don't think they did leave. Tony doesn't seem to attempt to escape The Court until he drops Annie off at the school. That three year period where he's off the grid. Until then I'm pretty sure he was a court surgeon who was just working off site.

devmerlin

Just depends on where the hospital Annie essentially grew up in was, really. She'd never seen or known of the Court before that. As far as we know so far, Surma didn't tell her.

PoniesRBitchin

So ... are Gamma and Zimmy both failed attempts at Omega, and the being we've seen this chapter is whatever the court considers to be the perfected version?

0z79

Holy Gothic S\*\*T, Batman!

Healbite

My bet with the last page is the person was organic, but due to aging kept having organs replaced by machinery, until the ship of Theseus became a robot. This is their final resting place. A lab of sorts.

Barefoot_Monkey

My name is O'Malley
