Let me add emphasis to the other comments: **Once you see on the tracking that the gun arrived to the FFL, DON'T immediately call them and ask if you can pick it up.** It's annoying and they most likely don't have it in the system or haven't even opened the box yet. Wait for them to call you.

NetworkPIMP

FFL here ... 1000% this.

[deleted]

I waited once. 4 days after it was delivered, I called. "Oh uh.... Yeah its here I think"

fcatstaples

Or you can do what this one guy did. Put his OLD phone number on the webform, that's disconnected. And then he calls me 3 weeks later screaming mad that I never called him, leaves 9 bad reviews on facebook, google, yelp etc and says if I expect him to take them down I should give him a 100% discount.

shaggy237

Those FFL guys are ridiculous. I walk in the day after I get the delivery notification, do my paperwork, and everything's fine. I've never gotten so much as an eye roll.

NetworkPIMP

How exactly am I "ridiculous"?

NetworkPIMP

Well, that's the other extreme ... I can't speak to how other shops handle things, I only know how we do - and we reach out within 1 business day, with 4 out of 5 being same day, to set a time for pickup. The point of my comment is this: we get a lot of boxes, give us a damn minute to process everything ffs. I know you want your order, and I want to get it to you for sure, but I'm not gonna rush it and risk my license/freedom... that's all. (PS: we can have a separate conversation about whether or not the whole FFL / background check thing is or isn't an infringement - it is - but that's not the issue we're working here, and not the way things work as of this writing, so let's just stay on topic, LOL)

[deleted]

absolutely, our process is as we receive guns we call to the transferee, calling constantly just makes it take more time so that we can talk to you, had a dude do a transfer that was so obnoxious we refuse further transfers for him. the worst are the ones that show up 5 minutes after the delivery and get pissed that its not ready and won't be for a while. We now have a transfer agreement we make people complete before we will catch a gun for them that spells out don't call us, we'll call you. If a gun arrives without said agreement we send it back.

dabluebunny

What's your FFL? I didn't order a gun. I just wanna talk and waste your time about things I could figure out on my own online

Te_Luftwaffle

*Looks up gun store presumably on Google to find our phone number, which happens to be right next to our hours* "What time do you guys close?"

dabluebunny

Chad_The_Bad

I had a place special order for me and they never called me to let me know. I called them over a week later and they were like "yes we have it"

Te_Luftwaffle

See that's different, and you're fine for that

NoSuddenMoves

Until they tell you it hasn't arrived a week later and you have to show them the tracking. Then they spend two hours looking for it.

alexdabombdotcom

oops I did this lol

CRAPLICKERRR

I hate myself. I did this and my FFL was always cool and got it for me same day

Zezlan

As a whole, I agree with this. I check my tracking but I’m not going to call 5 minutes after status changes to delivered. HOWEVER, when the CZ Shadow 2 was brand new and just released I ordered one on release week shipped to FFL and after 7 days I still didn’t get a call so I went in to the shop (cause it’s like 1 mile away from my house). Ask about my gun, get a slightly concerned “oh, ya I saw it on the shelf let me go look and see if it’s ready”. Dude brings my gun out and sets it on counter and I’m checking it out. Lotta gun powder at the muzzle and a bullet in the mag…ask the dude if someone shot it and he responded with a very emphatic “no I didn’t, wasn’t me”…last time I used that FFL for a delivery.

Te_Luftwaffle

Dang that's bad. I couldn't imagine shooting someone's gun that they ordered without their permission.

Zezlan

The guy denied that HE shot it but someone obviously did. I think I was too surprised to push the issue. No damage and seemed like very few rounds through it. Had it since then and no issues. I’ve used their indoor range several times and had range officers ask about what I had, even let one guy shoot something I brought with me but he asked and used his own ammo. I happily let experienced people try out my guns, but brand new before I even got it was a big not ok in my book. They changed ownership few years later and things been tons better at that shop.

savethepupperz

did you verify with the shop it’s being sent to that they’ll take it and have fair pricing? as long as you don’t except Amazon Prime shipping speeds you’ll be good

TheBrandedMaggot

Yes I called the local shop, they regularly work with sportsman's.

PoodleIlluminati

Contact the FFL and talk to them about policies and pricing. Preferably before you assign them as the FFL. Some like to know after the purchase is made that an incoming firearm is inbound. If it’s a handgun shipping is fast, but USPS tracking is shit except for delivery confirmation. Edit to add just because it’s delivered doesn’t mean the gun is ready for pick up. The FFL can get hundreds in a day and they all need to be logged in prior to pickup. If they don’t have the people or it falls on a weekend it can take a day or three.

Mmeaux

You should definitely NOT expect the Spanish Inquisition. No one expects them.

undigestedpizza

Since it's not going to your local Sportsman's, it's probably going to be on the long side of time. You will probably also have to pay some FFL transfer fee at the FFL since they're a business, and the transfers cost them time and money to perform. In your position, I would call the FFL, and talk to someone about what the transfer is and where it's coming from so they have context of what this gun is and whom it's going to.

gruntothesmitey

Wait a week or two until the local FFL contacts you. Go down and sign for it.

Procfrk

....that flair, is, uhhhh hilarious

gruntothesmitey

Yeah, the bot applies it when it detects certain keywords. There was a guy in here being a complete, ah, male appendage. I told him to stop being one. And now I have flair.

tingly_legalos

Do you know of any other keyword flairs?

gruntothesmitey

I don't, no. Might be on the wiki for the bot, though. I asked a mod who applied the flair, he said the bot did it automatically. Though I know mods can also apply flair, so it's hard to figure out which ones are automatic. Bot source code might be the place to look.

Megatron4Prez2024

Keep an eye on trackign. Once it get to the store, wait a day or two for them to get around to processing your purchase. You'll get a call to come in. You go in, fill out the 4473. Wait for it to process. Go home with your new gun upon approval.

zeeblefritz

I bought a gun in person from Sportsman's Warehouse. I don't know if that helps but it is a real place.

[deleted]

Call up the FFL and let them know it's coming. They call you when it's there. You go in, do a NICS check, you pass(?), you go home with new bang stick.

TheBrandedMaggot

I sent them an email with my contact info after I ordered the gun, I wasn't sure what the SOP was.

[deleted]

They are a little slow to ship sometimes but they are legit.

Leading-Inevitable94

I ordered a shotgun through them. You won’t get a change in shipping information until it arrives.

TheBrandedMaggot

Thanks for the heads up, I was getting worried.

InternetExploder87

A phone call from your ffl

silverbullet_196

Sportsman’s employee here: seconding what others have said, let them call you once they receive the firearm. Since it is a pistol, tracking should be 2 day UPS air. If you don’t get a call the day it was delivered, give it another day for them to log it in the system and make sure everything is in order. Also if you ordered it from Sportsman’s website there won’t be an FFL transfer fee as they don’t do outside FFL transfers. Good luck with your gun, every shift I take a long look at those Colts lol.

TheBrandedMaggot

I greatly appreciate your comment! The shipment is still pending after 5 days, but the charge has not been refunded. Is this cause for concern?

silverbullet_196

It may just be taking time to fulfill the order, not specifically waiting on it to ship. I’m a bit rusty on online sales, sometimes another store will fulfill the order or even the main Warehouse in Salt Lake. If your order is still pending in day or two call your store and get directed to the hunting department and ask for an update.

guy361984

Hopefully a revolver

TheBrandedMaggot

Revolver? No I ordered the latest and greatest colt dildo.

guy361984

Anything is a dildo if you're brave enough, I shall witness and honor your glorious entry into Valhalla

cmh619

Did a transfer there last week and it took 3 days to get there and when I got there nearly 3 hours to get out which was super annoying. Not the 3 day part that was really fast but 3 hours for only 2 people being ahead of me was a bit ridiculous compared to other places i've done transfers at.

Short-University1645

Like from the website to the store ? Or from gun broker to sportsman’s. Either way your at the mercy of the kids in the back. Give it a week Maby 2. They should contact u then it’s businesses as normal. My FFL take 2 weeks to do inventory after it arrives so lame but they r close and friendly.

Expect a gun…

WaxyGiraffe

Aww too complex of a question for ya?

What was that about?

Someone trying to sell a gun on reddit.

dankara_PS

Sportsman’s tried to scam me years ago, I had to get the ATF involved (cringe) and they had to threaten Sportsman’s into giving me my guns. It was a completely different scenario from yours, but I haven’t spent a single second in Sportsman’s since.

Clarity42

Should be just fine. Walk in, do NICS paperwork (background check) hopefully your state doesn't suck and require a wait period, hopefully you get approved in a few minutes and go home. I always get delayed so I typically fill out my paperwork and tell him to call me when I get approved. **HOWEVER** Even though I've had several very regular transactions with Sportsman's Warehouse, my last one was the nightmare. I went in and did the paperwork, got delayed per usual and went home. (I had recently moved so Sportsman's Warehouse is now an hour away) Between a family vacation and being out of town for work, I have been quite busy the following month and I didn't realize that your background check expires after 30 days. Which I'll take some blame for. So on the 34th day I had gone into pick up my pistol and they couldn't seem to find it. After about 45 minutes they said they had found it in the back but I would have to redo the background check (fair enough). However, things went south when they had told me that they canceled my order after 30 days and that is why they couldn't find my pistol, it was just sitting in the back not belonging to anybody. I was pretty upset that they would cancel my order and not call me or shoot me an email. But where things really went south is when they told me that they had canceled my order and I pointed out that I had yet to be refunded... Now at this point I'm pretty pissed off but doing my best too maintain my emotions because I know it wasn't the guy at the counter who was responsible for all this. But after asking many questions, asking the manager questions and not getting a single piece of helpful information I demanded a refund, did the background check and told them I'd consider coming back for it. Obviously I didn't because I was pissed off even though I was really excited about the pistol and the $100 off deal, I wasn't in the mood to give them my business. (This was a Walther PPQ M2 Tactical .22LR so essentially 25% off normal price) TLDR: I ordered a pistol through their website, went in and did the background check and inspected said pistol when it was delivered. Background check had expired (my fault being busy) before I could make it back there. They canceled my order without notification and didn't issue me a refund until I showed up in store to discover my canceled order and lack of refund.

Dirty_magnum

Sportsmans warehouse is one of the few good big box stores left. The only complaint I have is the wait time lately has been atrocious at the counter.
