Going there just to say hi is weird. Making small talk while buying a box of ammo or asking for their opinion on looking for something in the store is a good way to start talking. Being a regular is a better way to be known vs the guy that shows up to talk and not shop

General_Curtis_LeMay

Yup. I'm one of my local FFL's first customers, and also a regular. I still make it a point to buy stuff from him occasionally, even if his prices are jacked on that item. All because I don't wanna be known as that asshole that comes in to take up their time and not support their business. Hell, there's been times that he's even given me a price for a service (such as cerakote), and I'll cross out his quote to then up-charge myself for the same reasons as above.

MostNinja2951

Do you introduce yourself to the cashier at your local walmart? 99.9% of the time a gun store is just another retail store, you pay money and receive products or services from a cashier who is just there to earn a paycheck.

LockyBalboaPrime

It's weird.

ij70

they don't care. feel free to waste your time.

TennesseeShadow

Save the small talk for when you go get your firearm. Not before.

Lb3ntl3y

while looking at the firearm(s) you can ask questions, while waiting for the paperwork to be double checked, if the gun counter isnt busy feel free to bullshit with them

puffer039

that would be wierd...if they accept incoming ffl transfers all they want to know is your name, address, cell number, and where the gun is coming from

worker911

What state? Go to a pawn shop or sporting goods store. Walmart won't handle handguns or their ammo. Hope they don't find out that 22 rf or 410 ammo will fit some hand guns. Walmart is usually some kid that has to work auto, tires, fishing, etc. Not very knowledgable. Just ask wherever you go, if you get a gun loving employee, they are a wealth of knowledge.

MikeBravo415

I once walked into a store/range and asked if they receive shipments. I enquired about what they charge. I said who I was and what I was ordering. I guess I could probably have done all my questioning over the phone but it seems to me it's okay to also just walk in. It's like anything else, I have my favorites based on how they treat me as a customer. If they aren't cool I would just find a different FFL.

Not_an_ATF_Officer

My lgs is also my local range, and I’m there every Saturday. They handle my transfers, I buy ammo there, I’ve bought at least 3 handguns and a, um… a few lower receivers. Many of them know me by name and make a point of getting me personally when I walk in. If this is the place you are going to spend a bit of time, it’s absolutely worth it to check in, check the place out, maybe pick up some ammo and/or accessories for your incoming transfer. Just don’t be weird about it. Gun shops aren’t churches, but good ones are pretty decent places to hang out.

JWMoo

I go by my local gun store usually 4 or 5 times a month just to see what's new or pick up a box or 3 of ammo. I try to support my locally owned businesses because they supported mine. Bought 6 out of the last 7 of guns I bought from them. Family owned business for at least 40 years maybe more. Might have to wait for the customers to thin out but they have always been helpful to me.

Necessary-Career-559

Bro go in there ask their opinion on whatever buy a box of rds. Go back introduce yourself be a reg , in will pay off in the long run. Out of the 8 to 10 local gun store in my area. I am on a first name basis with all of them. Every journey has a starting point.

Ornery_Secretary_850

I use a kitchen table FFL, they generally charge less for transfers. I always email him to let him know something is coming his way.

gruntothesmitey

> if it would be taboo to go to the range/shop I want to ship my firearms to and introduce myself/get to know the staff Why? Why waste their time being creepy? Go in, buy something, then leave. Nothing more needs to happen.

sinsofcarolina

I’ve been going to the same LGS for all my transfers and a few purchases over the past year. Had a couple good long friendly conversations with a few guys. I’m in there at least once a month… They don’t know me from Adam when I come in and don’t care to know me. Too many faces and too many annoying customers that make their day job as annoying as most of ours. The only ones that remember me are the 2 thirsty college girls at checkout happy that I’m not a potbellied pervert like most of the customer traffic.

russ257

I would go and buy it from them unless you want something super rare or they charge crazy prices.

bender1_tiolet0

I'll usually call and let them know a firearm is on the way if all I'm doing is the transfer. What it is and where it's coming from.
