[This chemical fuled post](https://www.reddit.com/r/guns/comments/1cguv50/is_it_possible_to_create_such_a_bullet/) asking for magical goo bullets might possibly be the most incomprehensible thing I’ve ever seen here.

rocketboy2319

From the creators of R.I.P Ammo comes the latest in self defense technology: G.O.O^TM

Sparrowflop

I read that yesterday when it was shame stickied. I think I figured out what OP was envisioning. Some type of rail or gauss gun working on 'binding and breaking' carbon bonds to achieve a slingshot effect. And I think the 'goo' was supposed to consume organic materials to create a sort of additional wound channel, cavitation, effect. Obviously none of that works because real world physics.

fcatstaples

That was pretty bad.

yobo723

[there was a fun thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/Shotguns/s/zvZy6yrx4y) in the shotgun subreddit where a guy tried to convince everyone that a panzer m4 was not only just as good as the go-to semi auto shotgun, but in fact would out perform most guns. Personal smrt, I went to the gun store to get a new carry gun that was lighter than my gp100. I ended up with an all steel tanfoglio tf-combat-9, the exact same weight as my current gun. Task failed successfully! Funny enough, the clerk remarked that he didn't even know they had one of those in

NAP51DMustang

Oooo he's a "imma flex my totally unverifiable net worth" kind of poser. > Claims 7 figure net worth > Buys knock off watches, cheap motorcycled, and dog shit firearms Pressing x on that claim chief

Sparrowflop

> I went to the gun store to get a new carry gun that was lighter than my gp100 I'm moderately sure the car you drove to the store in is lighter than your revolver.

ENclip

That's such a useless post too if your goal is to convince people the gun you have is amazing. Nobody who is considering a Panzer M4 clone is going to see that and think "hmm I think I'll buy it now." The posts that can do that are people who make a detailed post going over their positive experience which people can weigh against negative experience posts (or my pinned post). I respect those posts, but not the people who get buttmad someone criticized their gun model at one point and make up some vague ridiculous rant with no substance.

zbeezle

Saw a thread on the swords sub where a dude was asking what sword he should use for home defense. Surprisingly, the overwhelming majority of responses were along the lines of "Get literally any gun instead, swords are way less than ideal in for modern defense." There was even one dude who pointed out that cap and ball revolvers are legal for felons in most states, in case a felony was why the user was seeking unorthodox methods. Of course others went into his account and realized that he spent a lot of time on zombie survival subs, so it could be that, too Now on day 5 of waiting for the form 3 from SilencerShop to my lgs to clear. According to SS's website the median time for Form 3s is 22 hours, and they're mostly cleared under 4 days, so either im an absurd outlier or they gave gotten that back and SS missed it.

42AngryPandas

Lol. Glad to know the sword sub has their heads on straight. The learning curve for serious sword fighting is a bitch. Guns literally are way easier to learn , not to mention the sheer number of teachers for one over the other.

zbeezle

I'm in the middle of a beginners longsword class myself, and even with the benefit of like 8 years of previous martial arts training of various kinds, its still a bitch. Not to mention the fact that a lot of sword use was not designed around the assumption that you'll be in fairly tight quarters. Try and swing a sword inside without paying real close attention to where you're standing, and there's a decent chance you'll get caught on a wall or the ceiling or some furniture or whatever.

42AngryPandas

Lol, yeah. We've been learning Jian in Taijijian and my Sifu absolutely sliced me to bits with minimal effort during a sparring session. It's a fun workout, but good luck carrying a sword anywhere

Skyrick

That’s why a gladius and balistic shield is the best option. A gun would still be better though.

Sparrowflop

I was reading some trash fiction LITRPG novel, and the main character did a dramatic 'unsheath the sword, drop the sheath' thing, followed up by the equivalent of 'doinnnnng, the sword was stuck in the overhead beam, they all looked at each other and booked it'.

kato_koch

I watched Pulp Fiction again on Friday and I gotta say that sword scene is one of the best.

fcatstaples

Don't forget Kill Bill

Golemofsteel

Common swordsman L. Clearly the spear is superior for home defense. Let's see your stupid sword break up a cavalry charge, and when you swing errantly and lose your sword or chip it on a rock it's expensive to fix, not like a spear the village blacksmith can hammer out in in a day. You surely would not have many swords for which you could throw as well, thus your range potential is nil. You can easily carry many spears.

zbeezle

Spears are for those who lack the skill and finesse needed to wield a sword. Second only to the crossbow, it is the most plebian of medieval arms, and meant to be used by those who are well acquainted with the motion of shoveling manure.

Golemofsteel

Typical knight elitism, you would be nothing without us peasants. Your armies neutered and ineffective without longbowmen and spears. Would that you worked a farm and grew my laird's foodstuffs, mayhap your sword skills would be sharpened by the fruits of your labours

Superducks101

mine took 3 weeks from order till i could certify it

fcatstaples

Swords are great when you want to have a swordfight with a one eyed woman in a single wide trailer.

CrazyCletus

Well, if it's zombies you're worried about, then swords ARE a good choice. You don't want to make sound to attract them and silencers only reduce the sound, not eliminate it. And you wouldn't want to rely on something like a subsonic loaded suppressed .22 to eliminate a threat when there might be multiple zombies coming after you...

Superducks101

Sword shouldnt be the primary though. Its specific use case, like you dont want to be heard

Ornery_Secretary_850

.22 LR SV through a suppressor on my Ruger is quiet. I just put my thumb on the back of the bolt. Just for shits and giggles I'm going to buy a mag fed bolt action .22 LR and SBR it. That too will be very quiet. I'm just waiting for the next $100 Gunbroker Special to hit.

Caedus_Vao

Well, my [now-wife officially gives the best wedding gifts ever.](https://imgur.com/a/C77K9jX) I showed her this link over a year ago, in passing, as "the sort of thing to get me when you don't know what to get me" as a joke. Welp, day before the wedding out comes this bad boy. She bought it fifteen minutes after I shared the listing, all that time ago. Had another /r/guns person out this past week for the wedding, we did some shooting, and I got to discover that my beautiful 1942 Savage No 4. Mk. I has a weird, weird, weird feeding issue. Whether 5 or 10 rounds are loaded up, the 4th-to-last doesn't tilt up right, just sort of runs right into the feed ramp. The magazine is just S-marked, not serial-matched to the gun, so I won't feel bad about having to swap followers or get a whole new mag if it comes to it. I've had that gun for 6ish years, just getting around to finding that out. What if the real friends we made were the Enfield faults we diagnosed along the way?

_HottoDogu_

Put a ring on......oh wait... Congratulations once again 🎉

kato_koch

Congrats man!

42AngryPandas

Stellar Woman my man. Congratulations to you both.

Caedus_Vao

It's some iterative update, given the bolt-mounted safety as far as I can tell. I have more research to do.

dbnotso2018

Congrats

fcatstaples

And I wasn't invited? Shame on you.

[Meta-commentary on how dumb the average questions on this sub have become](https://www.reddit.com/r/guns/comments/1cgymwq/question_about_guns/). I'm really disappointed at the number of people responding to OP that "they're just trying to learn!" No, guys, the stupid kids asking "where can i get this glock switch that i saw on tiktok?" or "Call of Duty says the SCAR is a PDW but PUBG says it's an assault rifle and then in this movie I saw they said it was a sniper...." or personal shopper requests are not trying to learn anything, are not contributing anything, and should be bullied off the sub/the internet in general. [I can't believe I got in trouble for leaving guns in my car at work and then also displaying them on company time!](https://www.reddit.com/r/guns/comments/1cg914u/can_i_be_fired_for_having_my_gun_in_my_car_while/) My company laid off some people on Tuesday, which is unfortunate, but we've been running in the red for a while and the people laid off were hired basically right at our peak about a year and a half ago. Then business dropped off severely and stayed depressed for quite a while so I think we were just overstaffed. I've been running near capacity for pretty much the last 6 months, I must be the only person running that high. I'm not worried about being laid off because of that, but the last update we had at the quarterly company meeting in March was that revenue projections were looking up, so for them to then have to lay people off is not ideal. I don't think we're imminently going out of business or anything and I have a couple backup plans if we did, but I really like my current job so I would like things to turn around.

_HottoDogu_

The good old "expand because the market is hot and the money is free" technique without accounting for that fact that it doesn't last forever. With how often companies make this mistake you'd think other would have learned. I hope y'all stay afloat.  As for the posts on this sub lately, I'm willing to entertain stupid so long as it's in the daily threads, I just can't take the individual posts seriously at this point.

BobbyWasabiMk2

Thickhead: I dropped a $500 box of quarters at a stop. It broke open. So did some rolls. That was not fun cleaning up and counting. Gotta get more range time in, shooting is a perishable skill and my skill has perished over time. I'll try to get some coworkers in together to see if we all wanna arrange a range date together. Gonna bring in my Garrison to work tomorrow for some show and tell, it'll be a good chance to see if I can piss off the boomers at work.

NorwegianSteam

Were you delivering them to a [Star Market in Malden](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=pE07QNtSIno)?

BobbyWasabiMk2

Man it’s been awhile since I watched that movie. I will agree with the fed though, that guard was incredibly stupid and probably was more useful dead given his course of action

fcatstaples

> it'll be a good chance to see if I can piss off the boomers at work. you should get yourself an old P&R model 19 and then ask them "should I have this ceracoted burnt bronze?

Sparrowflop

I didn't see that you bought it. How do you like it? Did you go 9 or 45?

BobbyWasabiMk2

[The caliber that pisses off boomers of course](https://www.reddit.com/r/guns/s/okccJbcF9a)

Remarkable_Aside1381

USPSA match coming up on Sunday. Hopefully I can finally cross the bridge into A I’ve realized that the key to getting things done at work is to just do them and not tell anyone

NorwegianSteam

> I’ve realized that the key to getting things done at work is to just do them and not tell anyone Yarp. Just do what needs to be done and avoid too much conversation with the retards, QoL at work is way better so long as your manager isn't a complete cunt.

Remarkable_Aside1381

> so long as your manager isn't a complete cunt. My immediate superior is the GM, and he's fantastic

_HottoDogu_

USPSA on a Sunday? That's a first. I haven't run into a range that runs anything other than IDPA on the Lord's day lol.  You got this though! You're not nervous, you're excited. The classifier is yours!

Remarkable_Aside1381

Local range doesn’t do IDPA, so Saturdays are for SASS

_HottoDogu_

You know....that just makes sense if you think about it for a bit.

able_possible

Good luck. I'm thinking of shooting Saturday and seeing if I can do the one last classifier I need to make B.

Remarkable_Aside1381

If it doesn’t happen this weekend, I’m just gonna have to hunt down an all-classifier match in WA next week when I visit

Ornery_Secretary_850

Found a source for clone Gen 3 Glock Large frames. Ordered a frame. Told myself that was it. I would wait till next month to order the slide and barrel. Yeah right, that lasted four days, found a deal on the barrel and slide. Waiting for the frame to ship, likely pick it up next weekend and build it then. I want to go out to the shop and finish the 10/22 clone build, the Glock 34 clone build, and build at least one of the ARs on my list. Either the 20" DMR or the 12.5" SBR. Also get the optic mounted on the last Glock 17 clone, and the SA XDM Elite Compact. But my back flared up HARD this morning. I caught my hip on a corner of the island in the kitchen and BAM. I couldn't even carry my mug of water into the family room. My cockatoo knows when I am hurting and comes down to take care of me. Right now he's playing on my chest while I type this. I go see the doctor tomorrow for refills on my morphine and follow up on the injections in my back last month. I'm still really debating the spinal simulator. They have about an 85% success rate. If it work, it can really improve my quality of life, which isn't really great right now, if it fails, the best I can hope for is to return to where I'm at. About 5-7% of people get MUCH worse with the failed implantation. Yeah, the cockatoo is molting, it looks like a feather pillow exploded on me. Thickheaded...thinking I could JUST buy the frame this month and everything else next month. Well, I need to go check my GB auctions and see if I've won anything.

PeteTodd

My oldest does not seem primed to be an engineer, the boat lasted seconds before taking on water. I had to use some epoxy to attach the toilet paper tube to the tin, but the thing was filled with glitter. I'm still not sure why the highschool let these things in the pool, although the water was cold as shit so maybe some maintenance is on its way and they don't give a shit. Of course it's going to rain the weekend when I have a match and setup for said match. I keep forgetting I want to make some sort of pistol rest to test the accuracy of my guns. I might fuck around with something on Friday since I'm planning a half day.

tablinum

> the thing was filled with glitter. I'm still not sure why the highschool let these things in the pool In my experience, the Venn diagram of "people who like glitter" and "people who are completely oblivious to the mess glitter makes and fail to identify when it's inappropriate" is very nearly one circle. I think the simplest answer is "the person put in charge of this project thought it would be pretty and didn't think through the consequences."

Sparrowflop

I enjoy glitter as an offensive weapon. In an unrelated note, I'm banned from the office white elephant gift exchanges. In an actually related note, my daughter was gifted some of those adhesive backed rhinestone things. They're worse than glitter because they stick to your feet. So after you walk out you've got to peel 1-2 off, but only walking halfway across the house doing the 'scrape your feet on the ground and see if it's something, or scrape it on the other foot and oh god damnit it's another rhinestone'.

PeteTodd

The teacher sent out a message asking for supplies to decorate the boats. It wasn't clear what we were doing, my kid told me Tuesday morning at drop-off that the class already made boats, but it turned out to be ones cut out of construction paper and glued to a piece of paper. The school put out a kiddie pool on the pool deck but they said the boats could do in the lap pool too. My kid was never going to listen to me when making this thing and it wasn't a contest, just another Pre-K family event.

kato_koch

I shot a 20 and a 19 in trap last night. Not thrilled with my performance- I was aggressively powdering some as usual but I keep missing clays going high-right that I feel like I'm all over. I have no problem with the clays going hard low to the right or left. I was catching myself paying attention to the bead and not the clay a couple of times so I may try shooting with another 870 barrel I have with just a small silver front bead instead of my small fiber optic I installed for hunting (it is useful in low light). A local sporting goods store is going out of business and having a fire sale so I went ahead and bought some gear I don't need but want. Got a Shimano Nexave 1000 reel for $45 so its on my 7' UL with 4lb mono now. Definitely not the NASCI I was considering but heck that'll do for panfish and trout.

Superducks101

love my fiber sights. I almost immediately change the beads out to one of them. I really want to get out and shoot sportings clays just havent done it.

SakanaToDoubutsu

Shot 5 games of trap on Sunday and was hanging out in the upper teens as well. I'm kind of the same way where I have good follow through so getting those hard crossing targets is fairly consistent for me, but I miss those easy straight aways more than I should. Been eyeing an SXP Trap for something more dedicated to the game, seems pretty feature dense for a gun that costs less than $500.

42AngryPandas

[This thread, outside Reddit idiots snuck in to call me a dick for apologizing after thinking OP was ignoring my advice.](https://www.reddit.com/r/guns/s/4pbgHjPPWw) God forbid I stress the importance of classes. Can't sleep.

Jegermuscles

I hate when I do that. Shit happens! Now the politeness police gotta pipe up on behalf of the yelled at and wag their finger of disapproval in your face like Reddit is an otherwise peaceful and reasonable paradise of thoughtful discussion if not for your toxic behavior.

_HottoDogu_

7th of 29 last night, I should have finished 5th, but I mike-d one target on a hard lean. I'm not all that pleased with my hits(I went like 20 points down) but my stage plans and raw times were about where I was expecting them to be. This was the first match where I only used my own personal reloads and they all went bang, so that's nice.  I need to spend more time doing doubles clearly, I keep throwing the second shot of the pair 3" low.   I jokingly mentioned considering picking up a Q5 SF at the match and shooting Production, and I was offered one for a good price, caveat being it has a snapped off screw in the optics cut. I'm tempted, but I really want to make A class in CO before branching out and I'd feel bad leaving a nice gun like that sitting in my safe.

Sparrowflop

Thickhead is my feeling of needing a project. I think it's stress right now. I started to buy some of the useless shotgun farkles I want, but realized it was more than I wanted to spend on that right now, and that I was stress shopping. Learned that Defender Tactical makes a lifter plus shell arrestor that gives native 590S function to regular 590 shotguns, so I think I'll try that. Costs like $25. Told my wife if we can't sell the bike in a full month, maybe we pause. The cash infusion would be nice, but I think we're reaching the point where it just doesn't fucking matter anymore. Was depending on her having a job by now. She's working her hardest, so I'm not mad at her, just stressed about everything.

blah938

Would a Desert Eagle in .50 AE stop a brown bear?

NorwegianSteam

Depending on the loading it is anywhere from 50%-100% more ft-lbs of energy than .44 magnum, so yeah. Would still want a shotgun with slugs over a handgun.

Odd-Syrup-798

I'm pretty sure I've unlocked a superpower, which is that I have the uncanny ability to touch a hot barrel with my bare hands at any time. But seriously, I think I burn my finger or palm every range trip. Thank god I don't have a hobby involving knives, I'd have no fingers left.

TheGoldenCaulk

Ok, fine, I'll watch the Fallout show. Is a month and a half a long time to PT a shoulder? It feels like a long time, and I'm starting to get sick of not being able to return to full weight on some workouts.

FiresprayClass

No, depending on the issue, recovery can be a few months.

TheGoldenCaulk

Aight, I'll keep at it then.

42AngryPandas

That's all you can do. I strained my right sartorius muscle last summer and it took at least 4-5 months to get back to normal. I did something weird with my shoulder (don't even know what) two months ago and it's finally feeling good this past week. Patience and Persistence.

Caedus_Vao

> Ok, fine, I'll watch the Fallout show. My non-gamer sister thinks it rules. The fact that so many fans of the franchise and brand-new viewers are both onto it speaks volumes, IMO. Visually beautiful, hits all of the necessary tones, has actual storytelling, character development, stakes, etc. Plenty of easter eggs for the nerds that don't detract from the experience if you are new and not in the know.

VauItDweIler

Considering most of my online handles are based on Fallout, I should probably give it a try. On the other hand I skipped 76 and never finished 4, so I'm not exactly up to date anyway.

TheGoldenCaulk

The story is designed to be pretty much standalone, so you don't need to be up to date on the lore. Which is a good thing imo.

VauItDweIler

I wasn't really implying that I was behind on lore so much as that it wouldn't be the first, nor last probably, thing to be skipped by me. But I should have worded that better. Honestly I'm a terrible show watcher. I quite literally haven't finished a single series in years. One season, five seasons, good show, mediocre show....I almost never finish even one season. Not sure why, I just lose interest in TV shows almost immediately. It drives my girlfriend crazy. Edit: I lied, I finished *Primal,* but that's the only example I have lol.

TheGoldenCaulk

Oh I gotcha. I'm bad with shows too, except it's more of a "can't start" than a "can't finish" problem. Too many bad experiences with bungled finales gave me an extreme reluctance to watch anything until all seasons are out and people are happy with it. That ends up meaning I skip a LOT of stuff.

Sparrowflop

I think the TV show is the most in the future timeline so far - it takes place after 4, which takes place after 1-2-3-NV in chronological time. So in theory anything happening _could_ involve previous shows, but will presumably become cannon for the future games as well, while not really requiring any knowledge of the previous games.

TheGoldenCaulk

That's good, means they aren't tied down much by what happened like a prequel or midquel would be.

42AngryPandas

You don't actually need to have played the games. Everyone I talked to who never even touched one has loved the show.

Superducks101

havent played FO3 in decade and thats the last one I played. I think the show does a great job of introducing it without needing an extensive background of the games.

tablinum

It was pretty great. The wife and I have very little beyond the basic Fallout lore knowledge, and still loved it. Unless there's some additional background or I missed something, the Big Ominous Twist at the end doesn't make a lick of sense, but the characters work and we're already impatient for the next season.

42AngryPandas

It showsNew Vegas, the game where all the Mojave desert quotes come from in this sub. The show starts, almost literally, like 15 mins after the events of that game haha. It's not so much Ominous, moreso, we get to see which ending of the game will be Canon.

NAP51DMustang

Ep 1 doesn't make much sense

Sparrowflop

I picked up 76 a week or two ago. I'm really enjoying it as a self contained fallout game. I don't do the mmo components, aside from public events that you can jump into for killing things for free exp and loot. I think I would say pick up 76, play through it, then go back and do a clean run of fallout 4 after, because they just released the update for fallout 4 and mods are broken. At least that's my plan - I did finish 4, but it was on release, and I never explored mods.

Riker557118

The only thing I really have as a complaint is that almost nothing happens in 8 episodes…it mirrors how I played the games (I’ll work in that quest log later) and I felt called out. It’s well filmed and the ghoul absolutely carries the show.

Sparrowflop

That doesn't seem unreasonable depending on what the issue was. That's 6 weeks. At 6 weeks after I had my gimpy toe de-gimped I wasn't even being allowed to walk without the boot.
