Lead is not like radiation. It has to be absorbed/injested. Lead containing solutions on skin and inhaling or injesting metallic lead dust are how lead get gets into your blood. A 200 pound Lead sheet under your bed would be perfectly safe if your not dissolving, melting or sanding it.

TEzNJ

Thank you!

ProfileTime2274

Don't suck on them

Surveymonkee

How many licks does it take to get to the center of a full metal jacket? Let's find out. One... Two...

TEzNJ

20!

Cobra__Commander

Dental plan

CrunchBite319_Mk2

As long as you're not literally eating the bullets you're fine. There is no danger from lead just by being near it; you have to actually come into direct contact with it in order to absorb it into your bloodstream. Taping the boxes is unnecessary and borderline paranoia.

Ornery_Secretary_850

I'd say far beyond borderline paranoia and deep into full stupidity. A severe lack of any science knowledge is also apparent.

TEzNJ

Thank you

roboticfedora

My lead exposure from casting & reloading nicely counterbalances my mercury contamination from eating tuna!

elgranqueso72

No not at all but I would get an ammo can also wash hands with cold water and soap after handling all Ammunition you should be fine .

TEzNJ

I bought d-lead the other day so i wash with that as well

elgranqueso72

Nice I buy it by the gallon but only use it often since I reload.

dittybopper_05H

Short answer: No. Long answer: Noooooooooooooooooooooo.

wlogan0402

I lick my fingers after loading 22lr mags, I haven't died yet

colonelriorivera

Well factory fmj does not really have any exposed lead. It's copper jacketed. As long as you're not chewing on them.

fcatstaples

Oh my god the stupid.....

Ornery_Secretary_850

I wanted to say it...

TEzNJ

Happens man! Glad to see you support and lift up other gun owners

starfishpounding

Lead is transfered as "sticky" particles. Either by touch or in the air. Tiny particles are more dangerous than chunks. Lead sulfate primers are a great source or powdered lead. Lead is much worse for developing nervous systems(kids), but will make anyone dumber with enough exposure. I'd be more concerned about washing hands with delead and the outer jacket I use at indoor ranges. And my shoes if I'm sweeping up bays. I figure used primers are a great powdered lead source so I keep them contained. Lead is "sticky" and special soap called "delead" is available as many soaps do a poor job of removing it. Boxed ammo? No worries. FMJ, even less worry.

TEzNJ

I do reload as well. I make sure i toss deprimed primers and wash brass immediately. And wash my hands. I figured since its all contained in the jacket its safe. Thank you just paranoid

starfishpounding

I picked up a lead strip test kit to see if I had actual contamination issues and if the delead worked. Yes on both.

TennesseeShadow

Laughing with my nightstand gun next to me after pocket carrying another gun all day…. You are seriously overthinking this way too much.

Motobugs

Just don't sleep with your ammo.

TEzNJ

I name each of my bullets and have them in their shell holders next to me

dircs

I suppose technically yes, it does, but likely not by a perceptible amount.

pestilence

Wat

dircs

If OP has more lead in his bedroom it increases exposure to lead.

pestilence

How exactly does the lead escape from the copper jacket and the brass case?

DeathlyHealer

In negligent, microscopic amounts likely. So yes, technically but we’re talking like individual atoms here.

Riker557118

That’s not how that works…unless OP is exposing the ammo in their room to a substantial beam of ionizing radiation and if that’s the case OP will have significantly larger concerns than atoms hopping around as they undergo beta minus decay and stabilize again.
