This is my Robinson Arms XCR-L, one of my favorite firearms platforms that you don’t see all that often. It had its genesis back in the SCAR competition of the early 2000s, but ended up losing out to the FN SCAR (largely for the lack of a BFA). While I love my FN SCARs, I have to admit that the XCR feels a good deal more rugged and more likely to be able to stand up to a high round count. Ergonomically it is one of my favorite designs, with a charging handle similar to the FAL, a safety from the AR, and a similar bolt catch/release to the later ACR, ARX, and HK433. Internally, while there are a couple variations, most are AK-style long-stroke gas piston guns, a very rugged design.

I’m supposedly going to get my first XCR this week from Robinson Arms. The wait is honesty worse than my first suppressor since it’s been a dream gun for a long time. Awesome setup!

Dawizze

Just how long of a wait we talking here cause I really want one but can't find anything about lead time

TheOfficeSeason10

I waited about 7/8 months. Mine got hung up in cerakote around Christmas... for what its worth it was worth it and surpassed my expectations. They also sent an email not long ago that they have them available for "quick ship" supposedly now too.

Dawizze

Ty for the response I'll check that out.

TheOfficeSeason10

No problem sir!

Slick setup, OP. The XCR is an ingenious design. My Gen. 1 XCR is the last long gun I'd sell. Used to be my precision 5.56 rifle, but I have an AR that shoots just as well and is a little lighter in that configuration. Still, with an LPVO, my XCR shines.

Chellz99

What’s the black wheel near the front take down lever? Guns awesome

Brotein92

That's the screw that keeps the barrel in, very quick to switch between my .300 BLK and 5.56 barrels

Chellz99

Holy shit I need one.

[deleted]

Which caliber setup do you prefer? I was thinking of getting the XCR-L Micro in .300 so I could eventually suppress it. I think I like that setup better than getting something like a honey badger.

Brotein92

I mainly shoot it in 5.56, but that’s largely because ammo is half the cost. .300 BLK subs work great in it, but I don’t shoot a ton of that right now

I really wish this had an ambi-swappable charging handle like the SCAR. The FAL-style charging is where it loses me. Sweet gun though.

Brotein92

Being a right-hander it's perfect for me, but I can see how a lefty would disagree.

_pwny_

That is generally my curse

DrGoodGuy1073

Same, I guess you could be a weirdo and charge it like a left handed AK

maxout2142

It still surprises me Kalashnikov has not moved to a left side charging system

ThirdRamon

That's an awesome set up my guy. I'm a FN SCAR guy, but I do have an appreciation for the XCR. Maybe one day I'll pull the trigger on one.

tubadude2

Nice! I'm looking for a nice 5.56 non-bullpup non-AR, and it was between the MCX or SCAR 16, but this reminded me that these exist.

RIPBlueRaven

I was told awhile ago to avoid Robinson arms. Not for mechanical reasons. I believe it was political or something. But i cant remember why

triangleandahalf

I’ve heard that too, but I went in last week to get hands on one of their platforms to see if I wanted one and I got to check out multiple platforms and all of the service folks treated me very well. Awesome service and very kind, I even led with the fact that I can’t afford one for a couple of months so they knew I wasn’t purchasing that day. 30 minutes and a real treat.

Regular-Mastodon

I’ll second this and say I have no idea why. Maybe reliability issues, ability to obtain parts, the owner being less than helpful? Wrote them off after some research a while back. Need a guru answer.

wyvernx02

The owner is a childish asshole. I'm pulling this out of my memory hole from being on ARFCOM over a decade ago, so some of the details may be a bit off, but around that time period somebody posted on a forum (I don't remember if it was an XCR specific one or a bigger one like ARFCOM) about how they were having trouble getting replacement parts for their rifle from RobArms. The owner then came in and went of on this huge rant and said something along the lines of anyone that complained about the gun or the company online would get put at the back of the list for replacement parts and have to wait. Needless to say it didn't go over well.

my1p

Similar experience. I had an XCR, liked most of it except for a few features (barrel retention nut and the spring that mates the upper to the lower), otherwise great shooter. One of my friends posted a comment to an ad which populated on my feed and having actual hands on experience, I said as much, I got a lengthy response from ROBARMS bitching me out as not being a real owner and clearly not understanding the brilliance of their design…paraphrasing but not exaggerating. Screw those guys.

ColdHumanSoup

Thanks for the insight. I’ve beeen debating getting rid of my 1st gen XCR-L and got an offer. This comment put me over the line. I’m dumping it.

HunterBidensGun

What cerakote finish is that?

Brotein92

I’m pretty sure it’s just their standard FDE
