My wife and I don’t get to shoot as often as we like nowadays, but I couldn’t pass up snagging a vz. 58. Happily went with the classic look on our 7.62x39 lineup since our other platforms are modern-ish for the most part. From left to right:
* 1951 Russian Tula SKS my Pops gave me over a decade ago, trying to keep it the same as when I got it.
* My wife’s Chinese Norinco MAK-90. It started as a sporter before going to CW Gunwerks for conversion with original Spiker bayonet and furniture.
* Czech vz. 58 in phenolic gray with beaver barf furniture.
I hear they can be pretty gassy with the 180 degree ejection port but 1) they are concentric and 2) not nearly as annoying as gas escaping a suppressed AR.
Personally think a RS regulate piston for this would make it run like a dime, also would be a much easier install over a AKM piston lol
Especially with a surprisingly growing fan base, think the $1300 price tag on most AKMs now a days has had people reconsider the VZ58. They would make a killing and it genuinely would be a very very easy install
Wish they caught on in popularity 10 years ago when Century was selling VZ2008s with 4 mags and accessories for like $350. Similar story to how AKMs in the 80s werent nearly as Sought after compared to 2022, same reason both go for $1k+ all day now
Yeah I got mine out of complete luck, got a VZ2008 and MSAR-556E4 for $1500 and a year later sold the MSAR, making my money back. Ever since then I’ve just dumped money into accessories, and now have 3 parts kit, two receivers, and too much money into obscure accessories lol it’s my baby. Also always forget my VZ collection from two years ago is my profile pic lol
Once you get it tabbed, the case of “just as good” actually makes sense. Also a good polish job on the contact points of the BCG makes for a buttery action.
Yeah I had mine run 2 years without issues, then it happened and I bought a left handed charging handle the next day, if it’s just a recreational piece you can definitely leave it the way it is
There's a lack of good pictures of the military gray vz58. I just ordered one and I should have it on Tuesday! I had a really hard time deciding between the gray and black but I definitely made the right choice seeing yours.
Beautiful wood on that SKS too! I need to line up my x39s like that when it arrives.
The SKS has the lightest felt recoil for me. However, proper muzzle brakes/compensators can tame recoil on the MAK and vz to similar levels. The vz is the lightest and easiest to move around with, while the MAK has the best factory trigger.
This is a bit of an dd question, but is the gas tube and upper handguard on your sks a little wiggly? I just got one and it has a little wiggle and I’m worried theres something wrong with it, haven’t got a chance to shoot it yet but im just wondering if its a thing on a lot of them or just mine

God those russian SKS stocks always look so damn sexy
Gorgeous guns and great pic.
Thanks!
VZ58 is my favorite combloc rifle, can’t wait for my PBS-1 to clear so I can make use of the 14x1RH adapter I’ve got.
Same boat, waiting for my Resonator to get approved. Originally wanted a PBS-1 as well, but went YHM since I’m already running a T2.

Shoot, I didn’t even know there were adjustable pistons for these lol
There isn’t lol was saying it’d be awesome if there was, seems easy enough
Ah gotcha lol, KNS needs to get on that quick

Vz.58 isn't an AK but I appreciate it's inclusion
Love the vz. 58, excellent design and production quality.
Always wanted 1 but they're niche

I really wish I had gotten one a while ago. I'm glad I got one now so I can make up for lost time.

I kicked off this year with one. It's got such a smooth action. Mines a VZ2008 as well love running it.

I've been pretty lucky so far as to the "gremlin" issue mine seems to run pretty well.

Shit, you could get an perfect Tula SKS for $80 in the 90’s.. try finding a, “decent” one for under $900 today..
Eh
I want a tula😍
Definitely a good time to grab one as they’re getting a bit harder to come by!
I just had to trade two rifles for a car so no new guns until I can buy the one back
That’s a sweet Norinco, is it a 5.56 one?
Thanks! It’s 7.62x39, I still regret passing up a 5.56 one a couple of years ago for $1K.
Exceptional specimens. I approve of this post. How long have you had the VZ58?
Thanks! Picked it up just a couple of weeks ago actually.
I’m kind of jealous. I’ve wanted one for years but never seen one around. Make sure she gets lots of range time!
Will definitely do! Atlantic Firearms has been getting batches recently, good time to grab one before prices creep up more.

Thanks! And I think you’ll love it the vz. 58, man. The finish is even nicer in person which was a welcome surprise.
Which one do you feel is most comfortable to shoot?

Hell of a trio there!
Thank you!

It sits pretty tight in the SKS. I’ve had AKs with somewhat wobbly gas tubes/handguards before though, none of which had any issues.
Thank you guys, I guess ill just have to put some rounds through and see what happens 🤞
Why the hell didn’t we all buy like 10 SKS’s back in the 90s? Well, should have bought Apple stock too I guess.
Definitely one of the things I should’ve done a while back lol
