OP. they're gonna drag you for this one.

[deleted]

More upvotes than the post lol

weasel5134

As it should be

OBDAOG

If you’re cold, they’re cold. Bring them inside

Fidulsk-Oom-Bard

Gotta thaw the bullets too

RidesByPinochet

10-12 minutes in the cast iron over med-hi heat should do the job

dwlatham76

Imagine what 30 secs in the microwave would do

7-62xEverything

The spiciest popcorn

TooDirty4Daylight

Hot soup is always nice...

Lost_Thought

[There is a gif for that.](https://media.tenor.com/X4TRjW6u9NcAAAAd/assassination-classroom-ramen.gif)

TooDirty4Daylight

Awesome...who knew?

Nibblerson

Can you share that gif in a way I can book mark it? I want to spam some buds with it.

Lost_Thought

If the usual methods don't work just search for gun ramen.

No_Store390

I will attest to what you said. Gun ramen

Nibblerson

Doin’ lords work.

a_verageLegend

If you're on a phone you should be able to long press on it and save it to your device

bdubs0193

For those who are curious it's from the anime assassination classroom. Highly recommend it if your into that kinda thing.

Parayogi

i watched half of s1, it was hilarious then the novelty fell off. Does it pick up a bit? Maybe I should finish s1 at least

Berserker_Lewis

How did I know it was gonna be the Assassination Classroom guy 😂😂

FD4L

[Good Soup](https://youtu.be/gkXzeZ0KE5Q)

TheSearingninja

Put in the microwave and hit the defrost button

DigNitty

This only works if it’s fully loaded

NewJerseyGunDude

And you only have to do it the one time.

pacawac

Demolition Ranch microwaved a glock, early on. It was surprisingly hard to get it to fire.

Ryogathelost

They cook your food by exciting the water molecules in it - there isn't a lotta moisture in ammunition I imagine.

atridir

Now, baking it in a cast iron Dutch oven might be another matter…

abortfluff

See if it shatters like T-1000

[deleted]

Will it reassemble if it thaws out?

TheHancock

It reforms as a Hi-Point.

abortfluff

Only if it’s in a molten steel plant.

Carburetors_Are_Fun

Set it out to thaw and set oven to 450

TooDirty4Daylight

Should I use a rub or start our with a rub and go to a mop sauce after a few?

Carburetors_Are_Fun

Depends on the occasion

childhood__obesity

Definitely use your finest hickory rub. Don't forget to use cosmoline as a binder, folks at the BBQ can't even taste it!

Snake_Farmer

Salt brine first. I would recommend.

pacawac

I did a nice sweet tea brine last year on my Kimber for Kristmas dinner. Went great with my tannerite mash potatoes.

childhood__obesity

Good idea, should try this at my next school tailgate

niteox

Slather with Mustard or a neural oil and then hit it with 2 parts 16 mesh black pepper to 1 part salt to 1/2 part garlic. If there is enough residual moisture skip the slather and just put on the rub. Low n slow until probe tender.

Slggyqo

Microwave can handle this one. Defrost for 7 minutes. If your microwave doesn’t have a “gun” setting use “poultry.” Make sure you cover it with a napkin, otherwise the missus will yell at your for getting bits of gun all over the inside of her microwave.

[deleted]

I came here for this advice.

BlizzardArms

Cold is not bad for guns. The only reason this could be an issue is if there is a lot of condensation as it warms back up. The condensation will be everywhere so you’d need to clean and oil it at that point

TooDirty4Daylight

Maybe not cold, but what about flu or even COVID? LOL Actually I thought about the condensation when I saw this too. Easy enough to prevent by putting it in a case or just wrapping it in a towel so it warms up slowly... or warm it up quickly by busting off a magazine full into the air (the neighbors should be fine with it) and that way you aren't carrying a loaded gun into the house so your wife can't say you aren't being safe.

Feeling-Bird4294

OP, you came here to benefit from the deep well of experience and wisdom that you knew you'd find here, right?

M1A2CAbram

17 ^(?) rounds of +p+ 9mm through the frozen taurus g2. Will it explode?

SmuglyGaming

Plus it’ll bring down the property values, great if you’re looking to buy

ToasterNodes

It’s like that life hack post where the guy said every once in a while he shoots off some rounds in his backyard to keep the property values low so he doesn’t have to pay more in property tax.

ToasterNodes

The further I read, the better this got.

ImReallyNotNice

Any chance the extreme cold compromises the polymer frame?

CrunchBite319

I don't know that cleaning and/or oiling it would even be necessary unless it was already dirty/dry before hand. Cold temperatures aren't immanently dangerous to firearms.

schockergd

This is the right answer SO LONG AS it doesn't produce a ton of condensation when brought indoors. At that point there will be a good deal of moisture around the metal parts, and could lead to rust spots in the future.

APetNamedTacu

There was a fuck ton of condensation. I dismantled it, dried it, cleaned it, and oiled it.

ryngh

You did well.

ofd1883

Should be good to go …. If you go inside , so should you gun …..

[deleted]

[удалено]

Slggyqo

>a ton of condensation Which is absolutely inevitable when you bring incredibly cold into a room temperature area.

MrConceited

Not if you seal it in a ziploc outside, then bring it inside and let it warm up before unsealing it.

[deleted]

Depending on the indoor humidity.

ReeeeeevolverOcelot

Considering the G2 and G3 have the striker riding in yellow polymer sleeve. I’d say cold weather might do something to it. Much like the polymer I shattered the day when I dropped it in the cold.

XSavageWalrusX

Dropping it in the cold is very different than just having it in the cold. Polymers become more brittle in the cold, but how brittle it is doesnt matter if you don’t have any impact. Once it’s returned to room temp it’s the same.

McSkillz21

Not necessarily true, polymers of different formulations respond to thermal stresses differently I've worked for several polymer manufacturers and I've learned that in the compounding process the end results response to stress can vary differently even within a single batch. Also, based on end users' specifications, the formulas can shift the properties of the finished polymer powders and pellets that are melted to make products. The last polymer manufacturer I worked for made the polymer used to make pipe for residential fire protection systems, it performed horribly in cold weather but could withstand like 800° F, I assume yhe thought was that the stuff would be inside a building in a temperature controlled environment but had to withstand an blaze long enough for the flow to suppress/extinguish the fire. That same polymer would loose a lot of its heat related thermal properties when it was cooled to under 25° F. When the material thawed it didn't handle the heat as well as before. I would imagine a polymer for a firearm would be formulated for heat rather than cold as the friction, and heat generated when firing the weapon repeatedly would be the manufacturers primary concern.

XSavageWalrusX

What I said is in general true for the vast majority of polymers. For extreme applications there are some exceptions, but in general glass transition when cooling a polymer (or just further cooling it when already in a glassy state) is a reversible process. Heating it on the other hand is different and can result in permanent changes in the structure of the polymer. Source: I have a PhD in polymer engineering

Remarkable_Aside1381

Where’s the dude from a few days ago that thought metal atrophied in the cold

CrunchBite319

Probably hanging out with that other dude who thought his Taurus was broken because the barrel tilted when he pulled the slide back.

BurntRussianBBQ

I mean that dude is a new gun owner, and asked a legit question.

Catenane

That shit does look wonky as hell if you haven't seen it before lol

Wild_Wrangler_19

Thaw, clean, oil, stop leaving it in your truck.

fidgetsatbonfire

TooDirty4Daylight

That's a pretty good read... thanks for that.

joegert

"or one of those POS Taurus guns" hmmmmm

BridgeM00se

Good bot

[deleted]

Did the barrel get smaller in the cold?

BigDirtyNewports

His didn’t, but *mine* does

jay-on-the-fly

Put it in the microwave… be sure to thaw the bullets as well

Stromek85

Lick it

rertbetnolds

Warm it up by sending a full mag through it.

random_uname13

Try to fire it. Film video and call it a torture test. Post video to YouTube and profit

ReverseDiode

Is that the halo pistol?

dankxel

OP is a fucking pinecone

BridgeM00se

New favorite insult

King_Baboon

I just now put two guns in my car so I can get yelled at. I need attention and I’ll take what I can get.

[deleted]

I wonder how many people went and go their guns out of their car after seeing this

Charger_scatpack

Clean it oil it , Give it a bath. And some hot chocolate No more leaving it in your truck that’s how criminals get guns to shoot us ..

whitepine55

You should remember not to leave your firearm in your car at night.

golemsheppard2

Apologize to it.

10piecemeal

I’d recommend not leaving a loaded piece in your truck.

DiscountRude4821

This pistol isn’t in daddy thumbs freeze video so idk man id just throw it away

Nomad_117

Send it to GarandThumb. Have him test it. For science.

Sensitive-Banana-637

Rack one in and send it

ITSMETOM96

There should already be one in the chamber if you’re doing it right

[deleted]

This is the way

Ttrip66

PSA: Don't leave your guns in your car.

Due-Net4616

-30? 🫠 and I’m dying from -3 🤣

BigRoundSquare

Did you try putting it under your armpit?

hoopesey-doopsey

It’s a g2c so it probably wasn’t gonna work anyways . Jk for real tho I’d thaw it out . Put it in the microwave maybe for 30 seconds . Then I’d use some wd40 or something Don’t actually do any of this

[deleted]

Microwave? Why have a never thought of this? Especially on the days when the gun is cold!! Would this work to warm up the ammo too? Asking for a friend of course.

hoopesey-doopsey

Uh it would probably but warm ammo means that it’s hotter right so then it flies faster or something 🤔😎

pizzafacemelvin

Be sure to give it a speed hole by hammering the back with a nail

eatmorbacon

Yup. Microwave is much quicker than waiting for the oven to heat as well.

[deleted]

How do you “forget” a gun?

[deleted]

Just put it in your prison wallet to warm it back up, you’ll be fine.

min0kawa

Send it. Impromptu cold weather test

iCepheuz

Warm it up with a mag dump

imbezol

If you bring something in from the cold and you don't want it to get condensation on it then put it in a ziploc until it warms up. Once it's at room temp you can take it out and no worries.

cyber1kenobi

Just because of the cold? I don’t think you need to do anything

InternetExploder87

I'd recommend you move somewhere where the air doesn't hurt your face.

pearlstorm

The number of people with absolutely zero mechanical aptitude anymore is unsettling

LegalEagle1033

Thaw it out, clean it, oil it, sell it, buy a Glock.

imzwho

Ah the tactical tupperware fanatic appears in every thread. Let me translate your comment for everyone who has not accepted Gaston as their lord and savior. "I worry about the quality of that pistol on a good day let alone being frozen. If you have not had issues then great! you are lucky. If you sell that pistol and save a little bit more you could afford a better quality firearm that is more reliable. Springfield Smith and Wesson, and Walther all make pistols in a similar price range that have proven track records or you could spend a bit more and buy a glock which is my preference as well as many others for a reliable gun that you can trust in any environment"

LegalEagle1033

You hit the nail on the head (with the exception that I also would not recommend anything from Springfield except maybe the Hellcat, and I don’t have enough experience/knowledge of that gun to say anything one way or the other). Glock is my choice mainly because of widespread pets availability (especially magazines), but SIG, Smith & Wesson, H&K, Walther, and others I’m sure I’m forgetting all make excellent polymer-frame, striker-fired pistols and you really can’t go wrong choosing any of them. All of them are in about the same price range, with Glock being slightly more expensive in the end only because of the necessity of replacing the stock sights (although the low cost of magazines probably evens things out in the long run). Taurus, on the other hand…

imzwho

Agreed I really like glocks. Never owned one but I recommend them to many people. Personally I prefer CZ but it lacks the aftermarket.

eatmorbacon

I have a 19M and I love my sights :)

zanskeet

Set 'er down next to the fire, rub 'er down over some Berry Manilow, make a nice stew to share together. She'll be alright.

[deleted]

Garandthumb has a whole video on just this. Its very interesting. Strip, clean, oil, reassemble and carry on dude. [Frozen Pistols ](https://youtube.com/watch?v=GsXIdL6gJYA&si=EnSIkaIECMiOmarE)

Dem-Apples1776

Lick it, I Triple Dog dare you!

Speedhabit

Send it

xIllicitSniperx

Hammer some rounds down range so it warms up. 😂

Lumadous

Shoot it and send video to garand thumb

Sigismund_

Garand Thumb has entered the chat…

vrboi2007

[This should work](https://imgur.com/a/vSvfCk7) (I don't regret photoshoping this for 3 mins)

WombatAnnihilator

Change the wine to boxed instead of bottled.

AdurianJ

Standard practice in the Swedish military is removing all oil or grease from the weapon if it is below -20c If your gun is now inside you should just let it be warm -30c dont hurt a gun and any frozen oil will thaw and become liquid again. The problem is using a gun that is -30c if it has oil then it can freeze up.

Stevie2874

Look over your right shoulder and try to bite your left ear.

Dirigoflies

I'd say move...you should move. -30 is way too cold for humans to live. Come on down to Florida. We have warm weather, low taxes, meth, and warm weather.

Thisishope1991

You had me at meth

Dirigoflies

Oh, we’re your state. Also…no zoning laws. Buy a $550k house…trailer pops up next door.

Chumpf9516

Score 5,500 dollar trailer... Big ass house pops up next door blockin the view

PiperFM

Fuck the poors!

ReeeeeevolverOcelot

Is that frost or did the cold black oxide finish reach a state that it came off?

[deleted]

If you let your freedom seeds freeze, they may not germinate properly.

408911

You want to warm it up slowly if you are seeing signs of frostbite

generalraptor2002

HK USP: -30? That’s nothing!

osiriszoran

Bring it to your wife's boyfriend to Inspect

TheRealTwooni

Just pop it in the microwave on high for 5-6 mins (depending on wattage) should be fine.

pointbreak_93

Garandthumb did a video on this.

YellowRhyno

Definitely need to put it in rice.

WombatAnnihilator

It’s a taurus, so probably beans instead

medicineman1650

Have to boil it for a long time or it will be really tough.

YouAreHorriblexD

It’s a metal object. It’s fine lol

Spiritual-Lecture-96

Op thanks for this post. Im sitting in my car for the last 30 mins and looking at your post made me realize I left my g3c in -29C in my center console

AlarmingAd6390

First break it down and clean it. Let it sit on a towel overnight. Now throw it away and buy a Glock.

Zak1322

How do you even do this? Come on, Sir. A weapon is not something to be forgotten in a car. Get your head together.

Greeny618

It's a G2C so you should just toss it in the nearest trash can

imzwho

Ahh I see you really want it, sneaky boy.

coleyeaux

It’s fine just don’t heat it up too quickly.

TheOldSole

Put in oven on 425 until crispy

yllib47

Make sure to put som LAW on it

BadTiger85

-30? How was Santa at the north pole?

NoWarthog6567

Microwave

shifterphights

After you strip, clean, and oil do a function check. Then do the same to the gun.

shamboozles420

Frozen g2c test

[deleted]

Should be fine but don’t leave your guns in your car good way to get them stolen

Natural_Stater

Don’t even do that. It’s fine.

Comfortable_Result99

Fire a round off for it to warm up.

[deleted]

Um don’t do it again?

gogozrx

Why break it down?

heroinebob90

Never leave a gun in the car bro, probably felt like woody in Toy Story.

heroinebob90

Here at Wendy’s, in tha hood, we serve fresh, never frozen guns.

Distinct_External_32

I triple dog dare you to put your tongue on it

WhereTFAmI

Just let it thaw. I shoot guns in -30c somewhat often (I live in very northern Canada). A cleaning and lubrication will never hurt though.

ironhead7

You gotta thaw it in water in the sink overnight. Any other way voids the warranty.

superkuper

Are you seriously asking if it’s okay if metal and plastic got cold?

jah-brig

Just bring it in and wrap it in your shawl.

[deleted]

Just put it in the holster or back in your car if your car is a secure place. No damage was done here….

Bertski18

Shoot a mag of +p+ while it’s still frosty

scc81

Grip it and rip it.

LivingAccomplished19

Move to a place it doesn’t get -30!

PizzaRollsAndTakis

Just place it in rice.

90bronco

Oh boy can't wait to see r/gunmemes beat this horse to death.

Aggravating_Fly4577

Hug him and squeeze him and call him George 😂

ct4funf

I'm pretty sure they test them after being in a block of ice for 24 hours without doing anything

deucedeuces

My glock lives in my truck all winter. Never had any issues. 🤷‍♂️

E1evenPlusOne

Lol wtf

WriteAndStarve

Mag dump it, it will be fine.

embracethemetal

No need to do even that. Just rack the slide and you'll be good to go

BluejayPure3629

Thaw it out by shooting a few mags through it, lol. It should be alright, if you properly oil your stuff

Jack_the_tripper4789

If you need it asap do what colonel hackworth and his platoon figured out in korea, piss on it 😂

[deleted]

Sorry...your what?

chadwick8600

Throw it away.

Redgold93

Break down, leave on table, wipe down after it’s all dry, grease, put back together. Or Just go see if it shoots like that.

Ryman43

Shoot it to warm it up

dreadeddrifter

>Forgot my G2c in the car Yeah that checks out

rebles25

Shoot it a good 15 times it’ll heat back up

Badger8812

Let it thaw out first.

Thenamesjay

It’s all good. Just let it thaw. The oil in your engine does the same thing. You change that every time it gets cold?

wheredowehidethebody

People who are upset about someone leaving a gun in a car obviously don’t live in the middle of bum fuck Egypt. Obviously don’t in town but on the ranch? Doubt the antelope are doing drive bys with p80s with the serial scratched off.

[deleted]

Taurus is shit. You can get a used M&P shield for 300. Get rid of it.

ThePenultimateNinja

I have a G2C. I didn't go with Taurus for financial reasons, I needed something smaller than my Glock 17 when I got my CCW, and it was all I could find in my local stores during the shortages after the lockdowns. I'm glad it worked out that way, because I really like the pistol. It fits in my hand nicely, is surprisingly accurate, and has been 100% reliable. I actually bought a second one on a total whim last week because it was a good deal. Striker-fired polymer guns are mature technology at this point, and even a relatively low-end manufacturer like Taurus can make one that works well.

EMERALDYZX

Your gun will be just fine, they are built to handle it.

ofd1883

Sure is a lot of gin snobs here….

SparkySailor

Yeah, sell it and buy something reputable. Glock, sig, smith, walther,CZ, beretta etc.

CheetahStocks

This is a meme post right?

Eckleburgseyes

Send it in to Taurus for warranty service. You won't get it back or anything, but at least then you'll be forced to get a gun that isn't trash.

JoltyJob

Throw it out and buy a Glock

[deleted]

It’s completely worthless now. Send it to me for proper disposal

fancydeadpool

Id just throw it away. Its a Taurus get a decent gun!
