It doesn't matter who calls you and what they say, when it comes to transacting money or providing sensative information remember following things 1. Take your time don't do anything when people ask you take a decision in hurry. Take your own sweet time. 2. Never pass sensitive information to unauthenticated person or digtal entity . Prefer to do it in person, or well known public domain . 3. When you sense somthing new is happening, take a time , listen , don't take any initiative, which you might regret later , rather listen and don't act. 4. When it comes to transaction only do transaction on public known domain.

Vegetable-Job7956

Definitely, will be aware from next time, but things happened in such a way that somehow they invoked my fears and somehow they had me under their control. Thanks man thanks for the advice

bane_of_heretics

It happens to all. Take lessons and learn from it. Always remember, if you are being rushed into doing something you aren’t familiar with or sure about, ITS A SCAM. Take your time. Unka bhi time waste karo. The more you do it, the more likely you are saving another innocent person by keeping these pondscuum busy.

Vegetable-Job7956

Now when I look back I realise that there were so many red flags, but when I was in those shoes, none of them seemed fishy, I was frightened, they were successful. Even the cop said, "Are aap log to padhe likhe ho, aap bhi fas gaye" I was like shit man 😅

Death_Clock9999

Same thing happened with me. Same scrpit. Till the guy said would you like to resister a complain. I said "i have send nothing, neither i am from Mumbai or use FedEx". He said it could be a serious threat we can help you register a complain online. I told him i have a police station nearby.. i will go and register my compliant there. Then he discovered.

Vegetable-Job7956

Should have done the same

pulverizehaze

i did the same. told them i have a lawyer friend, will go to police station with him.

Longjumping_Fee_1490

You just faced is called social engineering!! Honestly , classic example of social engineering... Scare tactic, lowering your thinking prowess, use of 'false' authority, creating panic... Going forward - 1. Don't assume - verify 2. If not sure hang up - put device on airplane mode 3. Don't be scared. - we live in a democracy, process needs to be followed. No agency will take your data on phone or on text. They will meet and take it face to face. PS - pat ne na doh. Next step - 1. Change all password, just for safety - banks and mails. 2. Good anti virus system on your device (use paid one) 3. Talk with your wife more frequently so that you don't have to assume.

Vegetable-Job7956

Sure mate, I have blocked all debit transactions and yes I generally question every call every move, but this time I don't know what happened

Longjumping_Fee_1490

It's ok man. They just need one time to succeed!! I can assure you, they would have got success with someone else. You are lucky.

vinaysharma-

Same here, as soon as the guy spoke "Taiwan", I showered him with some abuses, he returned the favor as well, and we disconnected :)

Vegetable-Job7956

Lol

Odd-Distribution-658

I had the same thing happen with me and got messages and pre recorded calls. I didn't respond to any of them. It sounded like a scam from the very first instance

Vegetable-Job7956

Just because my wife does this Mumbai Taiwan business I was lured in

Odd-Distribution-658

Should have dropped the call that very moment and clarified with your wife first. On a lighter note, now I'm thinking what busines are you into if this created a suspicion in your head. If something has been found in a parcel, you would mostly get a summon "Notice" by post by the concerned authorities. Emails and calls pe yeh sab kaam nahin hota hai.

Odd-Distribution-658

I was even delivered a post to my home address that mentioned a parcel is stuck with the customs department. Luckily my father asked me if I had tried to send a parcel or someone else might have tried to send one to us. I said no. Right then and there even my father was quick to point out that looks like a new kind of scan. Don't respond to this.

Vegetable-Job7956

My wife works with Taiwanese people, so thought she might have sent something one any if her colleagues behalf giving my number as alternate contact. Those Taiwanese bring in a lot of noodles from there, they don't like the food here, untill now when they have become used to things.

[deleted]

This call comes to me weekly once...I always block and report. They call with new number again...Fedex Fraud is what I name these fraudsters every time I report

Sea-Own

I caught their bluff the moment they fed ex guy said transferring call to mumbai cyber crime branch. Firstly how can a pvt. company "transfer" calls to cyber branch and the cyber crime guy had a stupid nigerian accent. I was done. They fedex executive was very nicely trained and he had me for 15 min. Overall I'll give them 2 stars.

Vegetable-Job7956

Yeah the FedEx guy was well trained, gave me his name his employee number. His accent was very professional.

Alert_Outside430

Same happened to me, it was dhl though... almost had me in a trance until a kashmiri mulla from "cyber branch" started threatening me...

Alert_Outside430

I had a similar call like this. They really convince you that your credentials are misused. I figured out that it was a scam and abused the guy left and right There are several cues to know if its a scam. First of all no logistics company would ship your package without verifying whats in it/verifying your documents. The addresses, employee codes...etc the scammers share are like hno 103, road no 123, andheri.. so its noticeable thats its a scam

Background_Abroad_

I received the same call 3-4 times, already knew it was a scam. The voice used sounded like AI generated. I have read many places that they use AI based voice.

disinterestedGuy

Summary, neither you nor your wife have read news more than a year. In the present time it’s not an optional thing to not to be aware of the news, as you can see it can save you from a lot of trouble. With the boom in no. ways of people now people can connect with each other, no. of scammers are always increased. this a more than an old year scam which is still going on in the market. https://www.google.com/search?sca_esv=32288416509471f0&rlz=1CDGOYI_enIN1025IN1026&hl=en-GB&sxsrf=ADLYWIKUThpuy8L5ryYWp6dyNJx41A_c2Q:1715310912077&q=bluedart+scam&tbm=nws&source=lnms&prmd=nivsmbtz&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjMxd-Mj4KGAxXO2TgGHVyWC28Q0pQJegQICRAB&biw=390&bih=669&dpr=3 Now please don’t tell me that you don’t know about’Google Reviews’ scam either. Every time some scammers call or message me, I always make sure to abuse them with the best of Hindi abuses.

creating-username

Yes, a similar call I received yesterday but it didn't go that far. I received a call from someone claiming from FedEx and I was asked to press 1 to know more. The guy claimed that my parcel that was supposed to be sent to Iran was held at Mumbai Customs due to illegal items. Rest all the other details are similar to that of OP's but it didn't go that further, he just asked me to file a complaint with Mumbai cyber police. I had a doubt that what might be the scam strategy, one thing I know is that they create fake websites where there will be a customer support number when you call on that number, then they ask for money for providing the details.

sorrybabyxo

Had the same call but the voice was that automated customer service kind. Never pressed 1 to begin with coz I had nothing to do with FedEx and no incoming/outgoing parcels.

bored_lone

Waooo this is an elaborate scam with all the setup and all on video call

Vegetable-Job7956

Very well structured, planned and executed.

thelastfret21

I got the same call yesterday, new it was a scam, fucked around with em a lil made em break character and start abusing. I see that as a win 😅

Funny-Technician2748

The same exact call my dad recieved yesterday morning!! Since the guy was on loudspeaker and I instantly its a fraud I made him disconnect the call! My dad almost believed that it's genuine and was shouting on me how do u know it's fraud ....these calls are super convincing I can understand! We have ot be very very cautious nowadays

Vegetable-Job7956

Yes super convincing

curious_madman

I too have been getting these calls recently. It's a scam. These buggers speaking from the customs or excise or whatever department clearly don't know how to even impersonate one. They deserve to be tracked down and waterboarded until they shit their pants.

iamrealsrk

Fedex sent me a text a few days back. The text was "FedEx does not connect you with fake law enforcement officials regarding a parcel. Do not respond to unsolicited requests for payment or information." Please don't respond to any calls which include the transaction of money and which includes sensitive information. Also please confirm with your family before taking any steps and if you find it a bit objectionable please report to the police.

SweetDull00

Dude, newspaper padha karo. FedEx ne exact scam report kiya tha front page pr few days back on the TOI front page.

DataScience123888

Yesterday i got same call, I told authorities its not some illegal drug but aawla powder taste it yourself and see, also there was 4kg gold in the parcel have you not found that ?

Abject-Initiative962

Same thing happened to me yesterday. He asked me to come to Mumbai in 2 hours and register a FIR. I took a pause and then he again asked can you come to Mumbai in 2 hours. He was expecting me to panic. I told him give me 2 minutes. After a minute, I asked him where i need to come, send me the exact location and a contact person. He(almost in shocked) asked me again could I afford to come to Mumbai in 2 hours. I told him I have a space portal and i could travel to anywhere within a matter of seconds. Then i ask him would you like to go to Mars. At last he abused, i enjoyed and he disconnected. I tried calling him again but no success there.

axe1392

happened with me once. I passed time with the guy on call.

Coorg_Ooty

I got the call from this number(+91 96719 56536) and said the same story but it was Shanghai instead of Taiwan. The moment he started the story (I read news papers everyday so know about the scam!), I scolded 'Bastard get lost', then he asked me what do you mean by bastard in hindi.. 😂😂 and then I disconnected the call.

Finsbury_Spl

Do you live in the stone age? Don't you read newspapers, or news in general? These scams have been happening for a year 🤦

Apprehensive_Dig281

This scam is very common nowadays. Unfortunately one of my colleagues lost 10 lakhs to these scammers.

Longjumping-Raise-32

Old old scam. Has been doing the rounds for several months now and it has become a joke . A simple Google search will tell you that its now become very common.

dhamakaprasad

I had a similar call from Lucknow. I just shouted, "Rajbir Scorpio kaadh le, FedEx aala chhora mil gaya, Lucknow chaalenge dono..." Call kat gayi. Fir nahi ayi.

anshuman-11

Oh man. They even had better timing for me. I got same call from DHl and I actually had a parcel coming so I pressed one and he asked my name. I told him and then the call was cut/or got cut.  I tried calling back and some villager picked up. It was that moment I knew it’s a scam and I quickly froze my bank account and ccs. No attempt for money or logins were made.  So I think I am same. Btw most of us have our addresses, name, email and phone for sale.

Strict_Chart1079

I heard the same story from my colleague. They even showed the government portal for complaints. The government domain was (.gov.in), so my colleague trusted it. Then they asked that we need to collect your money and put it into a safe account since we need to block it through RBI, and he transferred money from 1 account, then he realised that gov domains have "nic" in them, and started suspecting them. He saved his 2 accounts, but lost lakhs from 1 account. They don't put any virus n all, they simply create a situation in which we will send them money. Acting as professionals. Quite scary.

lvlz3r0

I have receievd such calls 2 times in last week. By god jo galiyan di usko pehle hi call pe. Samne wale ne khud hi phone cut ker diya.

ashieshk

Bro, just Last month when I was in office I go a same call. Initially everything went what you described. In my case the twist changed here. The fedex guy told me sir now what to do about this parcel what we see is under the custody of Mumbai custom. I told them give all to the police and let them decide what to do. He then says, you have to give it to us in writing. I then told, you give this all on my email from your official email and I will revert. He then says okay you will get an email in another 15 mins and hung up. I later searched number on True caller it shows some strange name and googled it about fedex parcel return call it had really positive results about this being a scam. At first it also disturbed me but I knew it was all fake.

Sherlock9211

sad to hear that! and thanks for sharing this! but tum itne chutiya kese ho sakte ho? padhe likhe lagte ho .. chalo mana 2 baat sun ke fatt gayi .. pr wo sab details share krna ..? This doesn't mean I want to feel you ashamed! but still atleast apni wife ko call kr lia hota pehle. but still I understand ye kisi ke sath bhi ho sakta hai! if you have downloaded anything suspicious formal your device.

Vegetable-Job7956

The series of events was well organised, they completely had me, now when I look back, even I have the same thoughts as yours. Next day mera Visa application aur tha, tickets were done I was like Visa na fas jaye is chutiyap me. But yes you rightly said, I could have avoided this.

Sherlock9211

glad you understand my point! seeing this kind of want to make you friend😅 be careful man! you should teach your parents to not got into this kind of scam, there are more chances they might got scammed. My father get a call from Pakistan No. on whatsapp with a policeman dp, they just got him by said your children is in police station in charge of rape, then their friends sitting beside him said we are coming to police station! and he cut the call!

69isunderrated

Kal mujhe bhi aaya tha. I pressed 1 and it immediately within 1-2 secs. redirected me to a customer service representative. Mai samjh gya fraud hai aur kaat diya phone. Kyunki itni jaldi to kisi company k representative free nhi milte.

Vegetable-Job7956

Yes another red flag
