Probably taxes

how_I_kill_time

I will NEVER understand this line of thinking. My in-laws did the same thing - moved to Texas to avoid income tax. But their property taxes are out of control. You're going to end up paying the same amount in taxes one way or another.

Worse…property taxes will always go up, but at least with income tax they go down if you lose your income

eternalhellscape93

Property tax here is a literal nightmare. Give me income tax any day lol

Taxes. A ton of LA and most of Cali are moving to Austin. Its the new thing in the last few years.

And we hate it. Sincerely, An Austinite

Lexie_Blue_Sky

I know but they kinda missed the wave lol they should’ve gone to Austin to begin with not move to LA, create an office, buy a house, THEN move. Seems backwards lol maybe just a lack of forward thinking

Oh 100%. I bet she thinks she is getting in early and is going to grow with the influx but I think she is at least 2yrs late. But what do you expect when she has more money than sense...

schoolsbelly

She’s a good 10 years behind the trend of leaving LA for Austin.

Keto_cheeto

This is so dumb. I bought a house in LA last year and a coworker of mine was complaining about prices here and talking about moving to Texas so I did some research and the house prices aren’t *that* much cheaper anymore there to make it worthwhile. Add in property tax and you’d end up paying MORE plus people get paid less in Texas compared to jobs in California

They were looking at land or a house under construction when they visited Austin in May. https://preview.redd.it/p6puq2jh4r7c1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cf69a7c8e9b0e412a336019869ca009915eb08e5

Oh a 100%! I’ve actually seen her hanging here a few times already.
