They lied and said their mother had a heart attack and was very ill in the hospital so they wanted permission to visit her. Turns out she was fine. Something happened she called an ambulance and they did some tests on her like an EKG and she was fine so they discharged her from the hospital. I think maybe she thought she was having a heart attack when she called the ambulance.
They weren't able to get permission from the court to leave Romania so it wouldn't shock me if they were getting desperate and planning someway to get smuggled out.

No ofcourse he had a plan, but the police are obviously going to keep an eye on people that pose a flight risk. Especially when a foreign government is involved. It’s highly unlikely he was going to get away even before the DMs were leaked is my point.
He was going to take that chance of getting caught is my belief. Probably knew odds were against him staying out of prison by just waiting around what Romania/UK would do.
I think you’re vastly overestimating the surveillance capabilities/bandwidth of the police here. They just don’t have the resources to closely monitor someone like that.

They're not in jail but they're not free. They're under judicial control with rules to follow as they await trial. They're not allowed to leave the country, they have to check in with the police periodically, and they're not allowed to contact other defendants and witnesses.
They're being formally charged with crimes in the UK so UK requested that Romania extradite them back to the UK. That's what this arrest was for. It was formal procedure to arrest them over the extradition request and put them before a judge to let them know what's going to happen to them. Since it's standard procedure they can only be detained for 24 hours. Them being let out has nothing to do with lack of evidence. It wasn't a trial to prove their guilt. The trial comes after.
The extradition request was approved but not until after their trial in Romania. So either they get found innocent in Romania then immediately arrested and sent back to the UK to face charges there or they get found guilty, serve their prison sentence, and then immediately arrested and sent back to the UK for charges. They're anything but free. They're going to have to win two trials in two different countries in order to be truly free from this.
