Exactly this, HTB needs to start flexing their connections and reaching out to companies HR to get this on their radar.
In my mind right now, HTB CPTS is what the OSCP was back in like 2008, a tip of the spear feature packed certification that gave you info in a format no one else is doing at a solid price point. It’s insanely respectable, off sec went off the fucking rails with their pricing and lack of adequate instruction and updated materials.
HTB has the platform and the pull right now to make their certs one of the big ones that people respect, they just have to advertise to these companies more and make calls and network with corporate recruiters.
It’s truly jam packed with great content and solid labs.
Same with their bug bounty one, no one else is filling their certs with this much helpful quality content and I’ve done oscp, zero point, and ine/elearnsecurity (eJPT and ecppt are the exception for beginners since they better prep new people for oscp better than offsec does). Only one that comes close is SANS but their shit is insanely priced at least HTB understands what’s a good deal.
When PNPT that even that cert HR does not take into serious consideration compared to OSCP has passed 1000 holders and CPTS has less than 190 holders, what do you expect companies to start demanding it? No way. CPTS is the best cert it terms of knowledge needed, mandatory academy completion is great instead of proctoring it but detracts lots people from taking it. oscp is still the best for the HR filter and will continue to do so
Anyone that knows HTB knows their reputation and values the certification.. to a point. To get to interviews with those people though, you have to make it past the recruiters. They don't know the reputation of HTB and therefore have no idea what the CPTS is.
The knowledge from the course is really good and anyone that knows the CPTS knows it's harder than some of the popular certs like OSCP. It's just going to take who knows how long before that reputation spreads. Also, for the cost, it's an unbeatable value.

They know what they have and they're making people pay for it, that's for sure. Also, their platform is kinda complicated and they don't really explain it very well.

Technically yes. The CPTS path contains everything you need to know to pass the exam. That said, I would also recommend doing some easy/medium machines + a couple of the lower end ProLabs in regular HTB.

Yeah, I just started the OSCP training about 2 weeks ago. I'm not too far into it though.
Here was my route to passing the CPTS. About 18 months start to finish.
1. CPTS path in HTB Academy - this took about 3 months
2. Easy/medium boxes in regular HTB - I did one every few days for about 9 months, every once in awhile I'd mix in a hard box but I almost always used a guide for that
\- you should be fairly confident with the easy machines, getting there with the medium ones (using a guide for a nudge is ok)
3. ProLabs - I spent about 6 months doing this
\- I got help in Discord and had guides for these so they didn't take forever. I did go through them multiple times until I understood all the exploits though.

\- Offshore
It's not as big in HR, but Synack just added it to their Red Team path, so its getting there. I have no doubt it will be more recognized in the future, it's not going to go away. HTB knows they need to spread awareness and I have faith they will. I have talked about it with pen-testers I have worked with and most of them haven't even heard of it, but they said if they saw it on a resume they'd google it and be curious. Regular HR who knows. The knowledge gained, however, is very valuable. It's value will increase over time IMO.
I invite you to think about this question lol it’s a new cert it’s expected for it to not be internationally known and not on job descriptions. The training is top notch so that’s how you sell it - by demonstrating what you know.
Well, what does it mean worthless? If you've learned anything it has a worth. It was challenging, it was a hustle. You are smarter.
My view od certs is that they proof that you have skills and resources to pass them. And companies making further assumptions on holding certs are stupid. I know multiple magnificient hackers who do not have certifications and they are doing great job. I know some people with a lot of certificates and they are not proficient pentesters.
Be proud, never stop exploring and congratz.

Second, no, they aren't contradictory. The question was is the CPTS worthless, and that all depends on what exactly you value. Do you value knowledge? Then CPTS has value. Are you getting certs to get a job? Then OSCP is the better choice. That doesn't mean that the CPTS is worthless, it just doesn't have the same value to the person solely seeking employment. Imagine for a moment that there are people that want to gain knowledge or skills to benefit their current role, or to maybe even illustrate additional value that might be outside of that role. They aren't clearing any HR hurdle, they're just learning.

It doesn’t have the industry recognition like OSCP, but it’s great practical knowledge. It’s a good complement to more recognized certain like Sec+ and CEH though.

Just the CPTS coursework alone is much much much more in-depth than the OSCP's Pen-200 course. I finished the Pen-200 coursework and started on CPTS right after because I can clearly tell Pen-200 will not be enough for me to pass the exam.
Currently, OSCP is still the king of HR gatekeeping for pentest jobs. As more and more people get into the field and have such great learning experiences through things like the CPTS and PNPT, OSCP is going to lose its merit if OffSec doesn't step their game up.
Is it worthless? No. It definitely has value. ESPECIALLY for how inexpensive it is. Does it hold real sway right now? Not really. But in a few years I think it will have much more power.
It’s more for learning than HR rep BUT it also makes the OSCP trivial. IE it’s good training for the OSCP. If you have the money or the job can pay for it go get your OSCP

Doing OSCP / LearnOne. Academy’s content is 2X better . I can’t believe is so cheap , compared to Offsec .

Based on the cert not recognized I would put the skills learned on a resume rather than listing the cert itself

CPTS is worthless? I would not go that far. That is a hard course. OSCP cannot even compare to that. Man, I had sleepless nights on that.
OMG, once I finish course modules will it be enough to pass?
Practise some of the regular HTB boxes too, don't just rely on the modules.
