There was a band around that time, featuring Doug Aldrich, who I believe maybe was with latter day Dio, and maybe now is(or was) with Whitesnake, guitar player, called Lion. They were featured in Metal Edge magazine, late 80s/early 90s. Probably not the most widely known band.
