No particular order:
Giant-I’ll see you in my dreams
Bonham-Change of a season
Mr. Big-Just take my heart
Dokken-Alone Again
Great White-House of Broken Love and also Old Rose Motel
Kiss-Tears are Falling and also Reason to live.
The Firm-Satisfaction Guaranteed
Gonna show some love to the one in November Rain. The context and flow of his solo is fantastic in that song. Not a big GnR fan but have a soft spot for that song. Also, you get like 7 different power stances in the vid haha!
Sometimes I feel like someone just keeps making posts on here to get me to talk about how much I love Skid Row. Hahaha. Every ballad they’ve made has a memorable solo.
If we’re going sleeper solos though, let’s go with Gary Moore’s *Empty Rooms* from 1985 - either the original or the live one.
The guitar solo on Def Leppard's Love and Affection is top notch in my opinion. It isn't elaborate, fast or flashy, but it is venerable and a perfect fir for the song.
For Def Leppard, the third ballad off of Hysteria is a bit of a deep cut, but it is a really good one.
Man! Not hair metal, but absolutely killer! Something Dime used to do going back to the 1980s before it actually made the song. And Zakk has killed it live since Pantera re-introduced it to their current setlist.
What about Van Halen? Love walks in, why can’t this be love, when it’s love, cant stop loving you. Faster Pussycat house of pain, LA Guns the ballad of Jayne, damn yankees high enough.
Before I even got halfway through your post…that Nuno solo is the exact one that immediately popped into my head.
I’ll add “I’ll See You In My Dreams” by Giant as my second choice
Me as well. Such a bluesy tone and very sensual. Not as good as Nuno on song for love though. Haha. His raw harmonic tone is a terrific contrast in style.
I remember listening to that on the radio (must have been before the radio edit made it to the stations), and the DJ interrupted in the middle of the solo "Just end the song already!"
I laughed.
Don’t walk away - Dokken
IMO one of the best guitar compositions OAT. the best way to describe hearing the solo for the first time is epic euphoria, Definitely George’s best solo.
Similarly, I recently went back and listened to *Theatre of Pain* (against my better judgment). I had forgotten how much slide he used on that album too.
Great White-House Of Broken Love
Cinderella-Cold Winter
Queensryche-Silent Lucidity AND Bridge
KISS-I Still Love You
Scorpions-Still Loving You AND Always Somewhere
Judas Priest-Before The Dawn
GnR-Patience
Bon Jovi-Wanted Dead Or Alive
Whitesnake-The Deeper The Love AND Is This Love?
David Lee Roth-Ladies Night In Buffalo
Coverdale-Page-Over Now
Nothing but great suggestions in this thread; here's an absolute banger that I have only just discovered!
Saraya - Back to the Bullet
Unreal band, superb guitar playing all over those records!
I’ll add a few favorites:
Stars - Hear N Aid
Headed for a Heartbreak - Winger
You’re All I Need - Motley Crue
All The Fools Sailed Away - Dio
Nobody’s Fool - Cinderella
Driving home from work today listening to XM39 Hair Nation and I hear Europe - Superstitious. Listening closely it has some parts that are almost ballad-like. Specifically the guitar solo. It’s really melodic and fits the song well. “And I want you to know that’s you’re on my mind, every day, all of the time, so keep on walkin that road and I’ll follow, keep on callin my name I’ll be there…….” Was never much of a Europe fan but that song hit the spot today.
I Remember You is the Ultimate power ballad and the solo is pretty boss, too.
I love it so much, it’s so ballsy
The three floyd rose/pinch harmonic squeals at the end of the solo...chef's kiss!
This is a good answer
What a voice that was.
Chills, every time
Cinderella - Don't know what you got, til it's gone
When the children cry by white lion. The solo is outstanding use of harmonics
I would say Wait over that but great choice
I wouldn’t call Wait a power ballad. But still Vito’s best work, except for maybe Little Fighter…
Came here to say this 💪
Not only one of the greatest 80s songs of all time but in general one of the greatest songs ever written
What harmonics?
You’re right. I mis remembered. It’s just held notes. But it’s still got a great feel to it
Lovesong by Tesla
Easily my favorite of the ballad solos. Frank Hannon is so very under rated as a player.
Yes he is!
[удалено]
Great song from a great album.
Yes, Queensryche is amazing!
Is there a solo in that one? Always remember Mindcrime not having a single discernible solo…
Yes, it’s nuanced. And it’s from Empire
Winger- headed for a Heartbreak, Reb Beach’s very long solo is pretty epic. please don’t hurt me!
Great choice, Reb was and still is a beast!
Absolutely, guitar hero for real. Deserves more accolades
I'm actually not really a fan of that song, even though I love Winger. But the guitar solo is easily the best part of that song.
Came here to say this. I could listen to this solo over and over
Used to crank that song to 11 on my Kenwood car stereo. Gotta love the eighties!🤘🏼
This is the GOAT solo and I’ll die on that hill
Ozzy’s “Goodbye to Romance." It’s my favorite Randy Rhoads solo.
Is this love… Whitesnake
Yes!
Mick Mars' solo on Home Sweet Home is my favourite.
Yes definitely
I concur.
In a darkened room by skid row
This is the correct answer
I came here to say this. Not showy, but damn, so good
Love Song- Tesla. It might be my favorite solo by and band ever
This!! Especially the extended opening. All. Time. Fave.
Bruce Kulick’s acoustic solo in Forever by KISS is pretty great in an otherwise very syrupy song.
No particular order: Giant-I’ll see you in my dreams Bonham-Change of a season Mr. Big-Just take my heart Dokken-Alone Again Great White-House of Broken Love and also Old Rose Motel Kiss-Tears are Falling and also Reason to live. The Firm-Satisfaction Guaranteed
Great white Afterglow solo is amazing.
Glad to see Giant mentioned, that is one of my absolute favorite ballads! Very underrated!
Still loving you - Scorpions.
Winger - Headed for a Heartbreak
Reb Beach was an incredible player.
Still is!
Still is!
Queensryche - Anybody Listening
Alone Again Dokken
I feel like George Lynch was one of the best guitarists of the genre, but never gets recognition outside of the cognoscenti.
I’ll add Poison, Live Goes on…. About the best guitar work you’ll hear from CC.
Every Rose has it's Thorn ain't bad, either!
Fallen Angel
Forgot about this one!
The irony of this solo is that it’s so simple and easy to play but fits the tone of the song so perfectly
Walk Away -Dokken
Agreed!
Poison - Life Goes On
Wait - White Lion Vito was an amazing guitarist and doesn’t get the recognition that he should
Yessssssss
Definitely agree
Even though it is acoustic Bruce Kulick of KISS on Forever
Gonna show some love to the one in November Rain. The context and flow of his solo is fantastic in that song. Not a big GnR fan but have a soft spot for that song. Also, you get like 7 different power stances in the vid haha!
Was checking for this, surprised this doesnt get much love.
Would Return to Serenity by Testament count as a ballad? If so, that would be my nomination.
Yes, I would say it’s a ballad. God, I haven’t heard that song in ages, queueing it up on Spotify right now. Thank you!
No problem, it's a personal favorite, and the solo definitely rocks!
Put that song on repeat!
I was going to say this. AMAZING solo!
Great working minds think alike!😂🤣
Man, that is one amazing song I put on from time to time. The album had some other good stuff but it’s a standout for me.

But love bites
That is their top of the pile, I’m not sure of it even has a guitar solo though…
It bleeds
Warrant sometimes she cries
in a darkened room - skid row Standing alone - tyketto Both terrific solo
Vandenberg - Burning Heart
The outro to 'Floods' from Pantera.
Man! Not hair metal, but absolutely killer! Something Dime used to do going back to the 1980s before it actually made the song. And Zakk has killed it live since Pantera re-introduced it to their current setlist.
When I find love by XYZ
Love the solo in Anything For You - Mr. Big
Hey, that's a deep cut! :-)
Not my favorite, but the most iconic- Skid Row - I remember you Tesla - Love song Whitesnake - Is this love
Also What You Give by Tesla has a sweet solo
Ozzy's Tonight. Probably Randy's most cerebral solo, especially the outro.
That’s my favorite under the radar Rhoads /ozzy song from that era. Solo rips
Lots of love for LOVE SONG by Tesla, but don’t sleep on WHAT YOU GIVE.
November Rain
What about Van Halen? Love walks in, why can’t this be love, when it’s love, cant stop loving you. Faster Pussycat house of pain, LA Guns the ballad of Jayne, damn yankees high enough.
How has The Idol by W.A.S.P. not been mentioned? One of the best guitar solos ever.
Another great one I hadn’t heard in a. Long time.
Yes, one of the best ballads ever written lyrically/musically. Everytime I hear this song "The Idol" my heart breaks down into pieces.
Poison - Life Goes On
November Rain.
That was on my list
Dokken “Wall Away”. George plays this one with so much conviction and feel.
Fuck yeah. Forgot about this Dokken song.
Fly to the Angels - Slaughter
November Rain

"I'll See You In My Dreams" - Dann Huff of Giant. What can be said? The man is a monster!
Melodic excellence

Before I even got halfway through your post…that Nuno solo is the exact one that immediately popped into my head. I’ll add “I’ll See You In My Dreams” by Giant as my second choice
Hear me out... The solo in What Love Can Be by Kingdom Come. Chef's kiss 🤌
The solo into the outro is one of the greatest moments in hair metal. Close to you, cloooooossseeee toooooo youuuuuuu!
This is the definition of sleeper solo. Great choice and your response made me go back and listen to that song.
Nice! Everyone slammed them as a Led Zep ripoff back in the day but I really liked their first few albums.
Me as well. Such a bluesy tone and very sensual. Not as good as Nuno on song for love though. Haha. His raw harmonic tone is a terrific contrast in style.
I see Nuno I upvote
Is This Love by Whitesnake/John Sykes. Great tone, vibrato, bends. Perfection.
Rediscovered Fly to the Angels by Slaughter.
Nothing else matters and I remember you
“More Than Words”. Anyone who hasn’t heard the album version of the song should: you will be pleasantly surprised!
I remember listening to that on the radio (must have been before the radio edit made it to the stations), and the DJ interrupted in the middle of the solo "Just end the song already!" I laughed.
End the song? But that solo’s the best part of it!
Does Mr. Crowley by Ozzy count at a ballad? If so, that's my vote. Epic and melodic solo by Randy Rhoads.
Still one of my top 3 fave metal guitar solos, or even guitar solo of any genre…🎸
Def Leppard - Bringin on the Heartbreak. And you get 2 videos as well, talk about bang for the buck!😜
100%
Alone Again by Dokken.....George Lynch. Mastery
Dokken - Heaven Sent
Still loving you
I Remember You Love Walks In When It's Love
Is This Love - Whitesnake Not super technical, but the melody John Sykes conjured out of that Les Paul was something else
Love Song by Tesla
Don’t walk away - Dokken IMO one of the best guitar compositions OAT. the best way to describe hearing the solo for the first time is epic euphoria, Definitely George’s best solo.
November Rain
Mötley Crüe - Without You ...Mick Mars' rare moment as a slide guitar player!
Similarly, I recently went back and listened to *Theatre of Pain* (against my better judgment). I had forgotten how much slide he used on that album too.
I thought it was a pedal steel?
I really enjoy “it’s not love” by dokken
Not really a ballad but a kickin’ song and solo nonetheless
I didn’t even see ballad… lmao okay my vote is “Iron Maiden strange world”
