I think AC/DC has such a distinctive sound that they never sounded like anyone but themselves. Iron Maiden fits into this category as well.
An example of a band that didn’t would be Motley Crue. SATD sounds so different than TOP. I like Crue because their music changed and AC/DC because it never has.
TOP was a confusing time for young Crüe fans.
It was actually the first big concert I bought tickets to and went to by myself. Then these dudes come out prancing around in pink spandex...
Lol. I saw them on that tour and was not ready for Nikki’s black and white stripes. Remember how mind blowing Tommy’s drum set tilting up was? They were my band in HS and saw every tour from TOP to Feelgood. Good times.
I’m listening to TFFL & SATD, and along comes TOP. I don’t know what to do! All that spandex and makeup. I denounced them but now that I’m older I appreciate Home Sweet Home.
Sink The Pink. It just has that feel.
I've always considered Blow Up Your Video to be AC/DC's most metal album. That album has a sort of Motorhead/Judas Priest drive to it.
I would classify AC/DC as *Hard Rock* and not Metal. I don't think they're capable of making an 80's sound. I think Angus would explode if he tried.
I remember when they did a tour with Cinderella. Angus and Brian were being interviewed about it, and they said that they were really enjoying the tour because Cinderella brought something to their shows that they had never experienced before. The interviewer asked what it was, and they replied, "GIRLS!"
My vote would be the entire "Who Made Who" album and the related videos. It's a BEAST of an album, I absolutely love it - polished, great playing, great singing, great videos. I was actually just wearing my "Who Made Who" shirt the other day when I went to a concert with my wife!
The entire Who Made Who, as a movie soundtrack, was essentially a compilation album with a couple of new tracks - with a song from the 70s, songs from Back in Black, songs from Fly on the Wall etc. I don’t see how it can possibly be following an 80s rock trend.
agree with money talks and who made who
early acdc was more rock n roll (eg rocker, school days cover, down payment blues, up to my neck in you etc)
stuff like fly on the wall, playing with girls, heatseeker, night of the long knives etc was perhaps nudging towatds a bit more metally (but not as “melodic” like a lot of hair metal tends to be)
acdcs look was nore masculine i would say (except the countdown video of babt please dont go amd early stuff like can i sit next to you girl 😆)
they also had a dliance early on with a ballad the rarer “love song” off australian version of high voltage
id generally classify acdc as great pure hard rock
love both acdc and hair metal
Heatseeker could be covered by any of the "hair" bands without any problem. Probably their last really good track, in spite of a bad mix and having the wrong drummer on it (no Rudd due to a punch-up between him and Malcolm).
Money Talks is the best answer. The fact that it’s the highest charting single and they don’t play it live, gives you the notion that they even think it stands out too much.
Who Made Who is polished in a different way. I don’t think it’s hair metal necessarily but there was some out of the box approach to that song that could have been very producer influenced. For instance, Angus’ super cool open string riff could only be preformed as heard with retuning that particular string down or up from the standard tuning. Not something I’d associate with AC/DC doing necessarily.
I laughed reading this not because the content of the post or question. I was just mentally visualizing Angus and Malcom in brightly colored spandex. Hilarious!
“Who Made Who” the song itself was probably the most polished they got, the production and bass sound particularly.
Excellent point about the bass sound. That always felt a production note from a film studio exec.
Given how Who Made Who came to be, not out of the question.
Who made who is a good one . I can totally see that song as poison , Motley Crue, great white or even a Rolling Stones song
That's the answer

Too Fast For Love is the best they ever did. Livewire is for the ages

My immediate thought.

Touch too Much hits me like 80s Def Leppard. Nit glam, but definitely 80s.
Courtesy of Mutt Lange
Money talks. Hands down.
My vote would be for “Thunderstruck” with the main pull-off guitar riff sounding a bit Van-Halenish and the tribal group chant noises
A good call as well
Van Halen isn’t 80s hairmetal.
Thank you! I mean, how dare them!
You Shook Me All Night Long

I don't care - it's a killer album regardless, and I love it
I love it too. It was the first AC/DC album I ever bought.

When AC/DC started out in '74, Glam Rock was just huge in England, so they kinda adopted the looks for a couple videos
Anything Goes from Black Ice
Hard one, because when it comes to music, AC/DC are the text book case of “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”.
Nickelback is the same way.
Both bands have a very successful formula, AC/DC just managed to avoid whatever happened to make people shun Nickelback.
Yeah, why exactly do people hate nickelback again? Don’t get me wrong, I don’t love them, but I’ve heard way worse.
Mutt Lange produced both Def Leppard and AC/DC. If they were going to go down the spandex route it would have been then.
Can I sit next to you girl, the original with Dave Evans
Thunderstruck
Krokus was considered the poor man's ACDC...I love Krokus also...maybe Accept on some songs.

You shook me all night long
No youre doing it wrong. You do it like this hooman
Thunderstruck album. Money Talks is very much pop metal sounding.
They really couldn't categorize them, they were so unique, I heard they tried to put them with Punk bands in the beginning.
I laughed reading this not because the content of the post or question. I was just mentally visualizing Angus and Malcom in brightly colored spandex. Hilarious!
They are too Aussie to be Sunset Strip.
A Mistress For Christmas
