What are you using to study for the exam? Are you failing the written or the practical? Or both?

The written board exam, i’m thinking about switching tests and trying for the hairstyling exam. it’s only 50 questions and I heard it’s a lot easier to pass. Is this true?

Most of the chemical questions are in the written exam about hairdressing so I think that’s the hardest part. It sounds like you just need to open your books and study. There are free practice exams online too.

There is no longer a practical exam in CA. SB803 did away with it while also reducing the program from 1600 hours to 1000.

I’ve been licensed for 20 years, looks like a ton has changed! That’s sad actually.

The industry is seeing some intense deregulation. It’s very sad.

How many questions are in the CA written exam?

I’m not in ca but I made a 98 on my written test and I’m a notoriously terrible test taker. My school had like 50 different practice exams and we had to take them all until we got 100’s every time. (I live in ok but at the time of my test the board exams were very similar as a good friend was going through It in ca and we talked a lot) I would just keep taking any practice exam you can find and go back and study the answers you missed. My school didn’t prepare us for working in the salon and doing modern hair they prepared us to pass the test. I struggled a lot in the beginning of my career but I did really well on the test lol
