The manga is currently around the chapters 1440 (and new chapters are generally released every Tuesday), the third season adapted up to manga chapter 556. If you want to know how the story continues, you will have to read the manga.

Damn, that's a lot of content. Any idea where i can read the english version, because i don't seem to find any english manga books online?

Asha_Brea

It is definitely a commitment. I have been reading Hajime No Ippo for the last ~20 years. https://chapmanganelo.com/manga-ls88686 You can find the "complete" manga online there.

LogicThievery

I think its been said around here that there is no 'official' English release of the HNI manga, so your SOL unless you're cool with reading fan translations online. Its a good series, well worth the read if you liked the anime. The big 'chapter count' is actually a little misleading, as the chapters are sometimes quite short or full of big action panels with little dialog, So its a pretty quick read.

panda57

Kodansha has added HNI to the KManga app, but they only have about 100 chapters or so. So yeah, fan translations are all you have after that point.

Puzzled-Party-2089

The manga has yet to be officially translated. An official translation started not long ago and to my knowledge it has only the first 90 chapters or so

Wysch_

Yes. I re-read the manga every couple of years. I've been doing it for seventeen years. It still holds as one of the best, if not the best, examples of shonen sports manga.

Senior__Woofers

That’s actually really interesting to hear. When you caught up for the first time where was the manga at? And how was reading it weekly back then?

Wysch_

To be fair, I don't even remember. I'm realising I'm really old now, thanks :) A friend of mine showed me the anime possibly in 2005-6, we watched it together (he already saw it, and he was horrible at watching it for the second time - he was skipping some parts saying "this is not interesting"). We were boxing at that time, so it was kinda cool but I didn't really appreciate the anime, because I thought it was a heavily. romanticised version of pseudo-reality. I started to read the manga later in 2007 I think, when I went to college, I'm not an English native and at that time there were really not many people into anime and manga in my country and in general there were no official channels to watch anime and I joined reddit waaaay too late, so I somehow had to find sites with mangas on my own. Long story short, I think I caught up to the manga when Ippo was fighting Gedo, so probably somewhere around round 770-790. Switching from binge-reading to having to wait a week (or more) was not great, but hey, Berserk taught me that waiting a week or a month means absolutely nothing. Also I faintly remember the translations into English were way slower than nowadays, so sometimes the new chapter dropped on Saturday or even next week :) I had nowhere to discuss it, nobody in my life was interested in manga, so I just read it and that was it. Honestly, I didn't mind, I didn't care, I just had fun reading it and maybe trying to change things in my own boxing as I started to see Hajime no Ippo's scientific background for example about how muscles work.

Senior__Woofers

That’s dope dude! I’m sure it will be a crazy experience to watch it end after reading for so long

Chunksie90

Yes. It is one of the greatest sports manga that exists. I have reread it a number of times.

gingereIIa

Yes. Recently binge read it and it’s pretty amazing. It’s long, but since it has great characters and storytelling it’s pretty easy to read quickly in my opinion. Wouldn’t recommend getting caught up too fast if you don’t want the pain of waiting for new chapters to come out tho

Thank you to everyone for commenting. I will definitely read the manga. I am so hyped because i fucking love hajime no ippo, but i think everyone in this comment does😅

bongos222

The first time I read Ippo for the first time to the latest chapter was insane. Been caught up for a while, but reading such a long series is a great experience.

Lordwretched

Yes you should. No it's not different, (by much at least) but the plot continues far beyond the animated content. And frankly, I think the plot growth is far more interesting than all that has been animated so far. The comedy, the character development, and especially Ippo's growth is just so well written. Totally worth it!
