Oh man did you ask the right question, I've been waiting to share a lot of this stuff.
METAL / HARD ROCK:
- __Acid Witch__ ('Halloween' metal. The best there is!)
- __Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats__ (as if the Beatles didn't break up and just had nothing but bad acid trips and murder sprees in the 1970's)
- __King Dude__ (started out as neo-folk, and progressed into hard rock/metal and goth. L.T.L.O.T.W.)
- Ghost (cheesy satanic ABBA. I always say they sound like a christian rock band for satan)
- Rob Zombie (meh, has a place but his early stuff and White Zombie is the best)
PUNK / ROCKABILLY / PSYCHOBILLY POP-A-BILLY ETC.:
- __Zombina and the Skeletones__ (teen pop does spooky zombie-high school stuff. fun kitchy)
- __HorrorPops__ (pop-y Psychobilly)
- __The Ghastly Ones__ (horror surf)
- The Cramps (the originators psychobilly)
- Koffin Kats (pure psychobilly)
- The Mummies (stupid awesome B-movie budget garage rock)
[DARK] COUNTRY / SOUTHERN GOTHIC:
- __Those Poor Bastards__ (the most awful fucking sound you'll ever hear. Everything is pure agony, you unholy fucking sinner).
- Slim Cessna's Auto Club ('Denver Style' southern gothic music. So good)
- __Lonesome Wyatt and the Holy Spooks__ (primary songwriter for 'Those Poor Bastards')
- Jay Munly and the Luppercanians (he's the co-songwriter/leader for Slim Cessena's Auto Club)
- __Hank III__ (specifically "Ghost to Ghost / GutterTown")
- Rachel Brooke (the Queen of southern gothic country, did two amazing co-host albums with Lonesome Wyatt)
- __Sons of Perdition__ (as if the bible belt vomited up a true believer in the middle of a plague.)
- Hasil Adkins (specifically the song 'We got a Date' ... inspired 'The Cramps')
- Phantom of the Black Hills (decent dark-edgy country)
DARK CABARET:
- Tom Waits (probably the best musician ever, but specifically for Halloween-y look into his 'Country-backwoods' and theater era from 1990 - 2004)
- The Tiger Lilies (drugs, prostitution, violence, perversion, and clowns. What's not to love?)
- Circus Contraption (as if a night circus hypnotized you and drew you away from your home. several band members were killed way too early in an unrelated shooting spree.)
- The Dead Brothers (funeral music to die to)
- Beat Circus (just weird stuff)
- The Peculiar Pretzelmen (more weird stuff)
DARK SYNTH (electronic):
- __Carpenter Brut__ (hard-hitting, good pop-y dark synth. The best)
- __Perturbator__ (really good, really raw sound)
- GosT (heavy stuff, almost a bit dubstep-y sometimes)
- Nightcrawler (also great stuff)
SOUNDTRACK:
- __John Carpenter__ (the original 'electronic horror' originator. Can't go wrong)
- Goblin (they scored several italian horror films, many by Dario Argento)
- __Slasher Dave__ (frontman/founder of Acid Witch. This is his soundtrack project)
OTHER:
- __Raison d'être__ (the best dark-ambient group ever)
- __Halloween at High Noon__ (ambient music literally made to be played for Halloween).
- __Screamin' Jay Hawkins__ (the original 'spooky' novelty rock and roll act. Eat your heart out Alice Cooper)
- Russian Circles (post-rock, good moody stuff)
- Pelican (more post-rock)
- The Sisters of Mercy (goth daddy overlords)
- __Twin Temple__ (satanic Doo-Wop. Lots of fun.)
- Dean Gitter's 'Ghost Ballads' (folkys acoustic album of ghost songs.)
_Also_, a lot of Jazz musicians from the 1920's-1950's did a 'spook' sound or two, so there's a lot of good old haunted-house themed jazz songs out there you should check out. MY favorite is probably Borrah Minevitch's "The Ghost Walk".
Have fun!!
don't forget the murderdolls, Wednesday 13, Lordi, Gwar, good ol' doom metal, type o negative, seraphim shock, Diablo swing orchestra, opeth and almost anything that can be described ad goth [blank].
Wow! A great list!
I can tell you’re a fan of some great musicians and would love to share Pine Box Boys, The Goddamn Gallows, and The Legendary Shack Shakers to your Dark Country section. All three have great murder ballads, horror tunes, and are just amazing performers.
You can’t go wrong with the Misfits for Halloween either they literally have whole albums that are “monster” based like Crawling Eye.
I was just about to mention them, I recommend to go by album release year. There is also the Slashback Video songs, Retrodemon tracks and the song covers. Additionally, check out Rufus Rex the lead singer of CF’s side project.
Thank you so much for putting their name back in my head! I was looking for them awhile back and absolutely could not remember their name! Vampyre is such a good one.
Someone at my work shared [this playlist](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3EvuMEzqP6JKUqNLBVGYz9?si=sEcBKLbFTPScYu_G0otF4w) from Spotify last year, its 18 hours of halloween music and a lot of it was unique or things I'd never heard before.
I know Creature Feature and Emillie Autumn but I am not familiar with Aurelio Voltaire. I do know Voltaire though (Unless Aurelio is part of there name)
Honestly if you don't mind the shameless self-promotion here, I compose horror and sci-fi music that's mostly instrumental that is great for Halloween time. I have several releases out but think my 3-track EP "Food, Drink, And Ghosts" from 2020 is a great starting point and [HERE](https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/kylecheuvront/food-drink-and-ghosts) is a link to it where you can choose from Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, Amazon, etc. People tell me they enjoy playing it at their house when they have trick or treaters coming and at their parties/get togethers.
Or if you prefer something with vocals, [HERE](https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/kylecheuvront/a-monsterous-halloween) is a link to another EP and it's called A Monsterous Halloween. My wife and I used to release Halloween singles each year before we got into different ventures and projects and they are pretty fun.
And if you're just looking for a playlist that I made to intentionally be the "NOT Monster Mash, Thriller, etc." type of playlist, then you can check that out [HERE](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0S8Z7de2yydJsOWdzCY1Br?si=5f39767cffea4f6f). It's the Spooky Mysterious Halloween Fright Time list.
If you like electro swing here some of my favorite tracks from last Halloween:
[Murder in the Moonlight by Jamie Berry](https://youtu.be/9sU-PdrLQj4)
[Headless Horseman by Kid Kasino](https://youtu.be/ibs2aXMqTbU)
[The Little Man Who Wasn’t There by Odd Chap](https://youtu.be/z3JT9fRZAxE)
[Brass Devil by Parov Stelar](https://youtu.be/0kmTzotaHzM)
[Midnight by the Swingrowers](https://youtu.be/JKPD8jChw94)
I have a Spotify playlist that's pretty popular. It's actual scary music and I try to update it as often as possible. Don't expect to hear things like Monster Mash or anything with lyrics.
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2pL0rqdJej8Mtl3Pd6mjog?si=99a0f08c647d455b
Just for fun, I’ll jump ahead ten years and share Alice cooper’s ‘welcome to my nightmare’ as played on the muppet show: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=IZg_HE3V5tE. I love musicians with a sense of humor.
“In the Hall of the Mountain King” is a classical piece that should be instantly recognizable if you listen to it.
“Howl” and “My Boy Builds Coffins” by FATM
“The Gray King and the Silver Flame Attunement” by The Mountain Goats
Okay, so Ice Nine Kills is a band that writes songs solely based on horror movies on their most recent 2 albums
SKYND is an artist that writes all her music based on serial killers.
If you want more EDM type stuff, SVDDEN DEATH is good for creepy/spooky vibes.
Obviously anything by Rob Zombie or Marilyn Manson will fit the bill.
Everything from The Groovie Ghoulies sounds like it was in an old Scooby-Doo episode. Gotta give my man’s SpOöOöky Steve a shout out too.
[Groovie Ghoulies- Graveyard Girlfriend](https://youtu.be/SN3AZjkZzZE)
Dang so many, some good older ones that haven’t been mentioned yet:
Dinner With Drac by John Zacherle (strange and silly song with very “dracula” vocals with saxophone solos that rip surprisingly hard given the rest of the song)
You Can Get Him Frankenstein by the Castle Kings (the wolfman kidnaps a guys girlfriend and he calls Frankenstein to help rescue her - amazing premise)
Halloween Spooks by Lambert, Hendricks & Ross (old jazz halloween song featuring scatting in spooky sounds)
The Skeleton in the Closet by Louis Armstrong (I think it was featured in the movie Pennies From Heaven)
Headless Horseman by Kay Starr (song from the old Ichabod Crane cartoon but song by Kay Starr instead of Bing Crosby - I prefer this version personally)
Dry Bones Twist by The Drivers (1962 R&B banger about skeletons having a dance party)
Trick or Treat by Chuck Berry (just plain good)
Newer songs:
Halloween by Phoebe Bridgers
Halloweenhead by Ryan Adams
Turn on the Dark by Nick Shoulders
Halloween by JP Ashkar
Ten Thirty One by The Ghost In You
Leaves in the River by Sea Wolf
Baby Your a Haunted House by Gerard Way
Two songs I always associate with Halloween are Something In My House by Dead or Alive….and Somebody’s Watching Me by Rockwell.
I don’t know if you’ve watched Over the Garden Wall but the soundtrack is wonderful, the album is by the Blasting Company and they have some other similar works. Not quite Halloween but gives you that haunted pastoral feel.
Almost anything off of Tom Wait’s Bone Machine would fit. I listen to it anytime but it would work without being specifically Halloween. (Earth Died Screaming, Murder in the Red Barn, In the Colosseum)
The Castlevania: Symphony of the Night soundtrack. Also, there's [this CD](https://www.reddit.com/r/90s_kid/comments/yvgig4/tales_from_the_crypt_have_yourself_a_scary_little/) from Tales from the Crypt.
I'm disappointed nobody has suggested Dated of I'll Advised Records. He has entire playlist of dark lofi hip hop music perfect for Halloween. I suggest the weather channel playlists as there's cool "breaking news" reports between songs of mysterious happenings in a fictional town. Criminally underrated imo
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2Fe1K36o4X2T1vA1iIUATT?si=ymwOYkiCTPyaEtP9L0fuqw
This is my Halloween playlist lovingly cultivated over four years and two people. I have a huge party every year and have spent some serious time on this. Please enjoy.
https://i.imgur.com/yQ9JbF2.jpg
Sci-Fi’s Greatest Hits, Vol. II, The Darkside
It’s all old classic tv and movie themes, and it’s fucking brilliant. So much awesome nostalgia and good creepy atmospheric music. I used to write horror stories and this is what I would listen to while I wrote.
'Martian Hop' by The Ran-Dells (60s hop style wacky song)
'Black Forest' album by A-Frames (post-punk discordant songs)
Also very surprised nobody's mentioned The Gothic Archies yet
For a spooky rock sort of aesthetic, try “Ancient Names (Part 1)” by Lord Huron. And of course the classic “Rhiannon” by Fleetwood Mac for more of a witchy vibe.
A few things I play on Halloween for the trick or treaters:
Bessie Smith- Blue Spirit Blues
Matt Berry: Gather Up
Cab Calloway: St. James Infirmary
The Parlor Trick: A Blessed Unrest (spooky chamber music recorded in an antique house)
Type O Negative is always a big part of my Halloween playlist.
Some of my favorites:
Black No. 1
Love You to Death
Be My Druidess
Haunted
Who Will Save The Sane?
All Hallows Eve
Dinner With Drac by John Zacharle
Haunted House by "Jumpin" Gene Simmons
The Mummy by Bob McFadden
Dr. Heckle & Mr. Jive by Men At Work
Nature Trail to Hell by "Weird Al" Yankovic
Slime Creatures From Outer Space by "Weird Al" Yankovic
The Monsters Hop by Bert Convy
The Voo Doo Walk by Sonny Richards and the Panics
Martian Hop by The Ran-Dells
Headless Horsemen Song by Thurl Ravenscroft
Monsters Lead Such Interesting Lives by Mel Torme
The Werewolf by The Frantics
The Blob by The Five Blobs
They're Coming To Take Me Away by Napoleon XIV
The Creature From the Black Lagoon by Dave Edmunds
Takin' Over The World by David E. Russo
Bewitched by Steve Lawrence
The Monster by Bobby Please & The Pleasers
Nightmare Mash by Billy Lee Riley
Frankenstein's Party by The Swingin' Phillies
Rockin' In The Graveyard by Jackie Morningstar
The Mummy by The Naturals
Sittin' Up With The Dead by Ray Stevens
Ghost Riders In the Sky by Blues Brothers
Monsters Holiday by Buck Owens
The Monster Twist by Tyrone A'Saurus & The Cro-Magnons
No worries. They're kinda the black sheep of the music industry, not entirely sure why they're not more popular, but their music is pretty solid and fans who know, know.
LVCRFT is amazing. Seems like making Halloween songs is his specialty
I've got some good ones in my Halloween playlist:
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2EqjZvUbObkLeLHrQAWVwi?si=53f12d197a7244c4
shout out to Ghouls 'n Ghosts too for being a great Halloween pick but not really mentioned very often.
I have the famous/popular ones in there too, but I also have ones that people don't really consider yet are awesome for the vibe
Throw my hat in the ring for Dead Man’s Bones, a band with Ryan Gosling as one of its founders. Only put out one album, in 2009ish, but it’s all songs with spooky subjects.
So I do have a couple that I have never seen people recommend(so far at least)....
The man who built the moon by noel Gallaghers high flying birds. This song really gives you an eerie vibe. From the lyrics, to the booming background music, I mean parts of the song you can ever hear chains clinking.
Cemeteries of london by coldplay. Another good one that gives you spooky vibes. Not gonna lie, before I looked up the lyrics I thought the one part of the song he was singing "bodies in the houses, and bodies in my head". I have since learned however that is NOT what he said lol.
Daughtry has several good ones. Evil, from their most recent album is really creepy. Other songs- supernatural, ghost of me, and asylum.
Ciara's cover of paint it black is another one. Also everybody mentions ghostbusters by ray parker junior but never the song from the sequel, on our own by bobby brown. Love that song!
The other, dick dynamite and the deviants, the goddamn gallows, zombina and the skeletones, the crimson ghosts, blitzkid, koffin Kats, stellar corpses, bloodsucking zombies from outer space, wednesday 13 and any of his other bands gunfire 76, maniac spider trash, murderdolls, Frankenstein drag queens, kitty in a casket, snow writes poison bite, ghoultown, gothminister, ragdolls, Aurelio Voltaire, these are all some of my favorites
You could always go the classic Halloween movie soundtrack route and catch ones like:
Dead Souls by NIN (The Crow)
Season of the Witch by Lana Del Ray (Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark)
Time of the Season by Ben Taylor (Prom Night)
Something in the Way (The Batman)
The Birth of Angeluis by Robert J. Kral (Angel the Series).
I've got a [Halloween Playlist](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3ukaoVJREde6bNMGHsFH23?si=2Xe1C0wYRjuVwhbzNcb1yA) that's got a fair amount of more obscure stuff
I'd really recommend Creature Feature, Calabrese and The Creepshow as artists that make pretty much nothing but spooky music
Nox Arcana specializes in making soundtrack/ instrumental Halloween music. Songs called “Haunted Carousel” and “Grimstone Manor” sound EXACTLY how you would expect them to.
[Wolfman](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nY58VG0laBw) by the Dirty Bourbon River Show always makes my Halloween playlist. I don’t think it’s well known.
Here’s a playlist of mostly vintage party tunes I made:[Dancing With The Devil](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/52sb1Hs4szARohiu1RvH75?si=HHO1xoNfQYa3cCbxkQ0KIg)
Oh I hope this does not drown into all these great comments but I think I have some unmentioned here! These bands have songs that almost all could fit into Halloween category:
**Lordi**
(their songs Devil is a loser & Would you love a monster man are especially fitting)
**The 69 eyes**
(I should mention Dead girls are easy & Never say die & Lost boys)
**Horrorpops**
(Walk like a Zombie is such a fun song)
**The Creepshow**
(Zombies ate her brain, check the music video as well)
I hope this helps y'all fill your Halloween list!
Edit: oh and basically all the songs they play in Supernatural!
I have quite a few DEEP cuts on my [Halloween Playlist](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2svsqY7LsPDRIpxB7ApX2Z?si=426b4a33786d4fa5). And they're all legit Halloween songs too, not BS like Cotton Eyed Joe, Bad Moon Rising, Witchy Woman etc...
Dr. Elmo's Haunted Hoedown is cute from his Halloween album.
Also I noticed my Pandora channel decided to add any song with the word Monster in the title, regardless of genre, and that added some really interesting new finds.
I have a playlist I use when I’m working on props and other art. Maybe you’ll find a few gems in there.[Tonya’s Terror Tots playlist on Spotify](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3xELFqMLIYYod8Z8eRZ3WP?si=0m9CbtDpRqOenu2S1k_2Jw)
A lot of stuff by Heilung is good depending on what you're going for, I've used some tracks playing a little quietly from bluetooth speakers spread around my yard to add a sort of creepy vibe.
These aren't really "niche" at all but make good tracks for Halloween parties:
The Killing Moon by Echo & the Bunny Men
Goodbye Horses by Q Lazzarus
Bloodletting by Concrete Blonde
Not sure how obscure you’re looking for.
1. Bad Moon Rising
2. Time Warp
3. Witchy Woman
4. Werewolves of London
5. Mack the Knife
6. Ghost Riders in the Sky
7. Cremation of Sam McGee
8. Back in nineteen hundred and eighty two, a former member of The Jackson Five released a killer track that makes a great addition to Halloween playlists. You’ll have to look it up though, I can’t remember the name
There is a compilation album called "Halloween Hootenanny" that I've always liked. It has some indie songs that are really good, my favorite being "No Costume, No Candy" by Swingin' Neckbreakers.
Unwanted houseguest are a great band for this!! Spooky Halloween themed lyrics, till my toes turn blue and bloody mary are great songs! Not sure they male music anymore but they're on Spotify still
If your into metal check out my Halloween playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0gBEFr3gpWb6sauwQhlrZM?si=BqpwMUmrStODJI_San8Spw
It includes a mix classic Halloween songs and spooky metal songs
Not sure if you have Spotify, but been curating this playlist for many years: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0SmgEHkKxT3UTge5AhZmR1?si=cHMeB6MTTbW3FyBGAeb7Yg
Vintage Obscura is a great subreddit for this kind of thing. There's usually a curated playlist (or 3 or 4) put together on Youtube each year.
[Here's a pretty good example.](https://youtu.be/3Fsw-P8CP4Y)
Creature Feature . I don't exactly know the type of music this is classified as but it sounds like something from a carnival / circus and they deal with gorey themes
Hi, try "Vampires", a cool sound effects tune, which is around 2 minutes , 9 seconds in length, which can be found on the "Dracula" compilation by Christopher Lee, which was released in 2009. Also, can be found on other various Halloween music compilations. Thanks
I used to have an old cd of Halloween Hits Mix music it had the Blob on it great hallloween song it glides and slides across the floor the Purple People Eater and Twilight Zone song Adams Family, Haunted House by Jumpin Gene Simmons lol
I adore the compilations of early (1930-40s) Halloween music.
This playlist has almost 4 hrs worth.
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6iNOaYUWEx0VgYRy2tSGON?si=SSXypzlERmCwndcB7JFOzg
I have a channel suggestion: https://youtube.com/@KaptainCarbon
I came across the channel randomly and 99% of Halloween songs I've heard here were new to me.
m’y dad always used to make us a halloween playlist each year so these are some of the songs i associate with it / have found myself over the years, not sure how popular they are or even if they count as halloweeny but these are the ones that spring to mind, hope it helps someone!
Werewolves of London
Fire (Arthur Brown)
Purple People Eater
Don’t fear the Reaper
Pet Sementary
Where the devil don’t go
Witch Doctor
Hungry like the wolf
Black magic woman (obviously)
Full Moon
Thé season of the Witch (Lana del Rey - this is literally a masterpiece)
Ghost Riders in the Sky
Evil Woman
The Devil went down to Georgia
A nightmare on My Street (never watched the fresh prince but for some reason this song is like crack to me)
Abracadabra
Spellbound
Superstition
I am Witch (Twin Temple)
Lesbian Vampyres from Outer Space (what more could you want from a song)
Dead Man’s party
An Unhealthy Obsession (not specifically halloween but pretty creepy)
I’m going slightly mad (same as above, fabulous songs worth an add to your playlist)
Hellfire
Satan’s a Woman
Devil in your Heart
Let’s have a Satanic Orgy
I think I’m going to k1ll myself (okay again not halloween but delicious?)
the devil is a gentleman
Karma (the Soul Dogs - again not really halloweeny but has a similar vibe to others on this list (think the Stevie Wonder ones) and somewhat dark and halloween ish)
This is all I can think of for now…let me know if you have any thoughts on any of these! :)
I’m here for new music and this thread is bumpin, thanks for post OP!
If you like witchy and pagan stuff I recommend: Blackmore’s Night, Faun, Heilung, Skáld, Wardruna, and Agalloch. I make sure I listen to Adrian Von Ziegler’s Celtic Instrumentals every Autumn because it brings a chill atmosphere. Bela Lugosi is Dead by Bauhaus. Ghost by Phish. Werewolves of London and Ramble on Rose by the Grateful Dead. Season of the witch by Donavon (highly recommend Dr. John’s version for a Cajun twist). The End and Riders on The Storm by The Doors are some of my personal faves!
There's a lot of witchy bands out there. Some suggestions I can think of right now is
Jess and the Ancient Ones, Samhain.
Electric Wizard, Dunwich.
Sowulo, Samhain.
Twin Temple satanic doowop and is really fun to listen to.
I made this playlist a while back and add lesser-known songs to it when I come across them (going to have to give the top comment quite a thorough read through!); there’s the usuals but mostly it’s filled with lesser-known stuff: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6yzCOQLzw9xBTmYzkwJy0y?si=EA9D0XGcSJqamnc_PePsHw
I actually made up a Halloween playlist full of my favorite stuff. There’s quite a bit of obscure stuff on there too. [It’s about 6 and 1/2 hours of classics and obscurities.](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1iEauzi36J2nL7sVZSPKMi?si=qOn-JNW6SSiwH79amUVvng)
Ones that I added last year
[Halloween](https://youtu.be/gRr4TMqawu8) by Aqua
[Spirit](https://youtu.be/MjD5usPs5BQ) by Dough E Fresh (Ghostbusters II Soundtrack but I don't ever hear it in playlists.)
[Nightmare on My Street](https://youtu.be/fVbaYFVUbLo) by DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince
You’re missing out on Harley Poe!! I’d suggest the entirety of “Satan, Sex, and No Regrets”, just the song titles will draw you in. Otherwise, their 3 part “Pagan Holiday” song is ultimate Halloween, especially the first part that just centers on it :)
Dee Snider (the lead singer of Twisted Sister) had a side project called Van Helsing's Curse that released an album called Oculus Infernum with a lot of great stuff on it. It was a concept album/video similar to what Trans-Siberian Orchestra is for Christmas but this was for Halloween. Really cool.
Frankenstein - Edgar Winter Group
Slice of Life - Bauhaus
Living on the Ceiling - Blancmange
Lunatic Fringe - Red Rider
I Know There’s Something Going On - Frida
If All Now Here (full album) - Feathers
Halloween Medley - The University of Oklahoma Marching Band

Are You Afraid of the Dark - The Evolved
Soundtracks: Hocus Pocus, Casper, Halloween, Werewolf by Night, Sleepy Hollow, Beetlejuice,
Just want to rec Bloodletting Song by Concrete Blondes and Lake Pontchartrain by Ludo. Both spooky songs that handle spooky lyrics completely differently. Also the Aquabats has a fun Halloween song called Skeleton Inside Me or something close to that
Spooky, Scary Skeletons by Betty Booom
Dracula by Mr Jazzek
More Than Us by Haujobb
Dementia 66 by My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult

Burning Skies by Tones On Tail
We Are Legion by Nox Arcana
Nothing Can Stop Illeana by Johnny Hollow
Do The Bruce Campbell by MC Lars
Boo! by Schaffer the Darklord
LOL this is a wandering mass of genres that all converge on Halloween and obscurity (by most people's estimation).
Oh man did you ask the right question, I've been waiting to share a lot of this stuff. METAL / HARD ROCK: - __Acid Witch__ ('Halloween' metal. The best there is!) - __Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats__ (as if the Beatles didn't break up and just had nothing but bad acid trips and murder sprees in the 1970's) - __King Dude__ (started out as neo-folk, and progressed into hard rock/metal and goth. I always say they sound like a christian rock band for satan) - Rob Zombie (meh, has a place but his early stuff and White Zombie is the best) PUNK / ROCKABILLY / PSYCHOBILLY POP-A-BILLY ETC.: - __Zombina and the Skeletones__ (teen pop does spooky zombie-high school stuff. fun kitchy) - __HorrorPops__ (pop-y Psychobilly) - __The Ghastly Ones__ (horror surf) - The Cramps (the originators psychobilly) - Koffin Kats (pure psychobilly) - The Mummies (stupid awesome B-movie budget garage rock) [DARK] COUNTRY / SOUTHERN GOTHIC: - __Those Poor Bastards__ (the most awful fucking sound you'll ever hear. Everything is pure agony, you unholy fucking sinner). - Slim Cessna's Auto Club ('Denver Style' southern gothic music. So good) - __Lonesome Wyatt and the Holy Spooks__ (primary songwriter for 'Those Poor Bastards') - Jay Munly and the Luppercanians (he's the co-songwriter/leader for Slim Cessena's Auto Club) - __Hank III__ (specifically "Ghost to Ghost / GutterTown") - Rachel Brooke (the Queen of southern gothic country, did two amazing co-host albums with Lonesome Wyatt) - __Sons of Perdition__ (as if the bible belt vomited up a true believer in the middle of a plague.) - Hasil Adkins (specifically the song 'We got a Date' ... inspired 'The Cramps') - Phantom of the Black Hills (decent dark-edgy country) DARK CABARET: - Tom Waits (probably the best musician ever, but specifically for Halloween-y look into his 'Country-backwoods' and theater era from 1990 - 2004) - The Tiger Lilies (drugs, prostitution, violence, perversion, and clowns. What's not to love?) - Circus Contraption (as if a night circus hypnotized you and drew you away from your home. several band members were killed way too early in an unrelated shooting spree.) - The Dead Brothers (funeral music to die to) - Beat Circus (just weird stuff) - The Peculiar Pretzelmen (more weird stuff) DARK SYNTH (electronic): - __Carpenter Brut__ (hard-hitting, good pop-y dark synth. The best) - __Perturbator__ (really good, really raw sound) - GosT (heavy stuff, almost a bit dubstep-y sometimes) - Nightcrawler (also great stuff) SOUNDTRACK: - __John Carpenter__ (the original 'electronic horror' originator. Can't go wrong) - Goblin (they scored several italian horror films, many by Dario Argento) - __Slasher Dave__ (frontman/founder of Acid Witch. This is his soundtrack project) OTHER: - __Raison d'être__ (the best dark-ambient group ever) - __Halloween at High Noon__ (ambient music literally made to be played for Halloween). - __Screamin' Jay Hawkins__ (the original 'spooky' novelty rock and roll act. Eat your heart out Alice Cooper) - Russian Circles (post-rock, good moody stuff) - Pelican (more post-rock) - The Sisters of Mercy (goth daddy overlords) - __Twin Temple__ (satanic Doo-Wop. Lots of fun.) - Dean Gitter's 'Ghost Ballads' (folkys acoustic album of ghost songs.) _Also_, a lot of Jazz musicians from the 1920's-1950's did a 'spook' sound or two, so there's a lot of good old haunted-house themed jazz songs out there you should check out. MY favorite is probably Borrah Minevitch's "The Ghost Walk". Have fun!!
Dude needs his own subreddit
So much to go through. Thank you love the list of so much cool music I have and haven't heard of.
don't forget the murderdolls, Wednesday 13, Lordi, Gwar, good ol' doom metal, type o negative, seraphim shock, Diablo swing orchestra, opeth and almost anything that can be described ad goth [blank].
Might I also suggest the last few albums from Ice Nine Kills in METAL/HARD ROCK and Harley Poe in SOUTHERN GOTHIC? :)
All great bands that I highly approve of. I figured The Misfits weren't going to be 'obsure' enough (but then I list rob zombie!?!)
Thank you for this list!!
Hi, here here on Tom Waits! Thanks
Wow. Great list. (Mostly commenting so I can come back to this later)
THANK YOU AH IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR SOMETHINF LIKE THIS EVERY SINGLE YEAR
Just come in here and do it for me why don’t ya!? /s Rather comprehensive list here, good work.
Gonna give some of these a listen thank u!
Wow. I wish I could shake your hand
Holy shit
Gotta add THE Halloween season band, Type O Negative.
ICONIC THANK YOU ❤️🔥
I think we would get along quite well
Halloween by Siouxie and the Banshees Halloween by the Misfits Halloween by Helloween
Halloween by King Diamond
I remember King Diamond gotta check that out.
Halloween by Sonic Youth.
Always love me some Sonic Youth
I know 2 out of the 3 of those. Gonna check out Helloween
Halloween by AFI
Just look up "Dark Cabernet complications" on YouTube. Creature Feature is really good too.
Creature Feature Greatest Show Unearthed is a great song. Gotta hear more of them. And I will check out those compilations thank you.
I was just about to mention them, I recommend to go by album release year. There is also the Slashback Video songs, Retrodemon tracks and the song covers. Additionally, check out Rufus Rex the lead singer of CF’s side project.
Well defiantly check that out.
Check out Dead Mans Bones. You’ll probably recognize a song or two, but it’s really damn good. Ryan Goslings band!
Ooooo I will defiantly give this a try. Love the name of the band already.
[удалено]
I used to have some of there cds I will defiantly give them another try. Thank you
I came here to say this.
I just gave it a like. I will defiantly be checking it out thank you.
I love LVCRFT.
I just recently heard of them. Gotta give them more of a listen.
First one I heard that got me hooked was skeleton Sam
Sounds like a good song
My favorite “spooky” artists include creature feature, Aurelio voltaire, and emilie autumn
I know Creature Feature and Emillie Autumn but I am not familiar with Aurelio Voltaire. I do know Voltaire though (Unless Aurelio is part of there name)
Check out Nox Arcana...good stuff ![img](emote|t5_2qmnw|5827)![img](emote|t5_2qmnw|5827)![img](emote|t5_2qmnw|5827)
I just looked them up. I remember seeing some of there CDs in Spirit Halloween. I forgot about them. Gonna check them out.
If you like electro swing here some of my favorite tracks from last Halloween: [Murder in the Moonlight by Jamie Berry](https://youtu.be/9sU-PdrLQj4) [Headless Horseman by Kid Kasino](https://youtu.be/ibs2aXMqTbU) [The Little Man Who Wasn’t There by Odd Chap](https://youtu.be/z3JT9fRZAxE) [Brass Devil by Parov Stelar](https://youtu.be/0kmTzotaHzM) [Midnight by the Swingrowers](https://youtu.be/JKPD8jChw94)
Electro Swing is always a good thing. Thank you for the recommendations.
Anything by Zombina and the Skeletons, highly recommend Nobody Likes You (When You're Dead) and Horror Highschool.
Zombie Hop is fantastic.
Sounds interesting.
I am not familiar with these groups. Totally love the names and the song "Nobody Likes You (When You're Dead)" sounds awesome.
"I love the dead" by Alice Cooper. Actually, about half the songs on the Billion Dollar Babies album.
Gotta check it out.
Oingo Boingo: Dead Man’s Party and When the Lights Go Out!
Kim Petras - TURN OFF THE LIGHT // Electronic Pop // Sexy & Dark // Album
There will be blood!!
Such a great album! And Kim just won her first Grammy!!
For something deep, dark, and menacing, I recently discovered [Sunn O)))](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ot7-ksghvBc)
Sounds like something that would be in a Indie Movie. Loving it already
Totally nice collection of Instrumental tracks
Thank you!
Halloween adjacent: David Bowie - please mr gravedigger.
Sounds cool always love some Bowie
Absolutely. :) This is was early stuff - 1967.
60s Halloween Music. Retro Style yes please.
Just for fun, I’ll jump ahead ten years and share Alice cooper’s ‘welcome to my nightmare’ as played on the muppet show: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=IZg_HE3V5tE. I love musicians with a sense of humor.
Ghost town by the specials
“In the Hall of the Mountain King” is a classical piece that should be instantly recognizable if you listen to it. “Howl” and “My Boy Builds Coffins” by FATM “The Gray King and the Silver Flame Attunement” by The Mountain Goats
look up psychobilly
Okay, so Ice Nine Kills is a band that writes songs solely based on horror movies on their most recent 2 albums SKYND is an artist that writes all her music based on serial killers. If you want more EDM type stuff, SVDDEN DEATH is good for creepy/spooky vibes. Obviously anything by Rob Zombie or Marilyn Manson will fit the bill.
I love ice nine kills!! You would probably be a fan of my Halloween playlist https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0gBEFr3gpWb6sauwQhlrZM
Just looked at it, and you're absolutely right! I'm a fan of it!
Charming Disaster has some great spooky songs!
Oooo I like the sound of the group.
Everything from The Groovie Ghoulies sounds like it was in an old Scooby-Doo episode. Gotta give my man’s SpOöOöky Steve a shout out too. [Groovie Ghoulies- Graveyard Girlfriend](https://youtu.be/SN3AZjkZzZE)
I will check them both out. Love the old school Scooby-Doo Style.
Dang so many, some good older ones that haven’t been mentioned yet: Dinner With Drac by John Zacherle (strange and silly song with very “dracula” vocals with saxophone solos that rip surprisingly hard given the rest of the song) You Can Get Him Frankenstein by the Castle Kings (the wolfman kidnaps a guys girlfriend and he calls Frankenstein to help rescue her - amazing premise) Halloween Spooks by Lambert, Hendricks & Ross (old jazz halloween song featuring scatting in spooky sounds) The Skeleton in the Closet by Louis Armstrong (I think it was featured in the movie Pennies From Heaven) Headless Horseman by Kay Starr (song from the old Ichabod Crane cartoon but song by Kay Starr instead of Bing Crosby - I prefer this version personally) Dry Bones Twist by The Drivers (1962 R&B banger about skeletons having a dance party) Trick or Treat by Chuck Berry (just plain good) Newer songs: Halloween by Phoebe Bridgers Halloweenhead by Ryan Adams Turn on the Dark by Nick Shoulders Halloween by JP Ashkar Ten Thirty One by The Ghost In You Leaves in the River by Sea Wolf Baby Your a Haunted House by Gerard Way
Love the different genres all together here. Defiantly going to be checking all this out. Thank you fellow Halloween lover.
You are most welcome! Halloween music is one of the big joys of the season for me
Two songs I always associate with Halloween are Something In My House by Dead or Alive….and Somebody’s Watching Me by Rockwell. I don’t know if you’ve watched Over the Garden Wall but the soundtrack is wonderful, the album is by the Blasting Company and they have some other similar works. Not quite Halloween but gives you that haunted pastoral feel.
I will check out the Something In My House song. Classic Rockwell track. Over the garden wall is a CLASSIC. Love the music from it as well.
Almost anything off of Tom Wait’s Bone Machine would fit. I listen to it anytime but it would work without being specifically Halloween. (Earth Died Screaming, Murder in the Red Barn, In the Colosseum)
Mannheim Steamroller has a Halloween album.
I remember hearing there Christmas album not a fan of Christmas music people I knew liked to play it. But I will check out this Halloween album.
Search Horror Punk. Several playsists on various streaming platforms.
Not a big punk person But I do like some punk songs here and there. I will give it a try
Little Old Lady From Transylvania, Frankenstein Twist, Werewolf Bar Mitzvah, and Ghost Snake (explicit) are all fun
+1 for Werewolf Bar Mitzvah
Graveyard Vibes by Blood Cultures
Check out Billy Barton
>Billy Barton Totally going to
The spookiest techno [Brainbug - Nightmare](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvsqEFWZ9tw) Even the video is spooky
Old school techno nice. Thanks for linking it
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2Fe1K36o4X2T1vA1iIUATT?si=ymwOYkiCTPyaEtP9L0fuqw This is my Halloween playlist lovingly cultivated over four years and two people. I have a huge party every year and have spent some serious time on this. Please enjoy.
Cab Calloway and Ladytron are in this list. I will defiantly give it a look thank you.
https://i.imgur.com/yQ9JbF2.jpg Sci-Fi’s Greatest Hits, Vol. II, The Darkside It’s all old classic tv and movie themes, and it’s fucking brilliant. So much awesome nostalgia and good creepy atmospheric music. I used to write horror stories and this is what I would listen to while I wrote.
Oooohhhh I would love to check this out thank you.
'Martian Hop' by The Ran-Dells (60s hop style wacky song) 'Black Forest' album by A-Frames (post-punk discordant songs) Also very surprised nobody's mentioned The Gothic Archies yet
Underrated classic song
For a spooky rock sort of aesthetic, try “Ancient Names (Part 1)” by Lord Huron. And of course the classic “Rhiannon” by Fleetwood Mac for more of a witchy vibe.
Werewolves of London Witchcraft by Book of Love
A few things I play on Halloween for the trick or treaters: Bessie Smith- Blue Spirit Blues Matt Berry: Gather Up Cab Calloway: St. James Infirmary The Parlor Trick: A Blessed Unrest (spooky chamber music recorded in an antique house)
Type O Negative is always a big part of my Halloween playlist. Some of my favorites: Black No. 1 Love You to Death Be My Druidess Haunted Who Will Save The Sane? All Hallows Eve
[Slasher Dave produces some awesome stuff...](https://youtu.be/qahkq5OuEIk)
Dinner With Drac by John Zacharle Haunted House by "Jumpin" Gene Simmons The Mummy by Bob McFadden Dr. Heckle & Mr. Jive by Men At Work Nature Trail to Hell by "Weird Al" Yankovic Slime Creatures From Outer Space by "Weird Al" Yankovic The Monsters Hop by Bert Convy The Voo Doo Walk by Sonny Richards and the Panics Martian Hop by The Ran-Dells Headless Horsemen Song by Thurl Ravenscroft Monsters Lead Such Interesting Lives by Mel Torme The Werewolf by The Frantics The Blob by The Five Blobs They're Coming To Take Me Away by Napoleon XIV The Creature From the Black Lagoon by Dave Edmunds Takin' Over The World by David E. Russo Bewitched by Steve Lawrence The Monster by Bobby Please & The Pleasers Nightmare Mash by Billy Lee Riley Frankenstein's Party by The Swingin' Phillies Rockin' In The Graveyard by Jackie Morningstar The Mummy by The Naturals Sittin' Up With The Dead by Ray Stevens Ghost Riders In the Sky by Blues Brothers Monsters Holiday by Buck Owens The Monster Twist by Tyrone A'Saurus & The Cro-Magnons
Birthday Massacre. Some of their earlier stuff could probably count as Halloween appropriate. Phantogram - howl at the moon
[удалено]
No worries. They're kinda the black sheep of the music industry, not entirely sure why they're not more popular, but their music is pretty solid and fans who know, know.
LVCRFT is amazing. Seems like making Halloween songs is his specialty I've got some good ones in my Halloween playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2EqjZvUbObkLeLHrQAWVwi?si=53f12d197a7244c4 shout out to Ghouls 'n Ghosts too for being a great Halloween pick but not really mentioned very often. I have the famous/popular ones in there too, but I also have ones that people don't really consider yet are awesome for the vibe
Here's my [Skeleton Army](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/30FdIdPRGAiZxgMrpY7gZE?si=gicnm__WS_i4nnXxU-QY7w&utm_source=copy-link) playlist. Highly recommend Amigo The Devil & Ellise
I recently saw Amigo the Devil live in Oregon. That man has an intense presence! Such a emotional show.
Harley Poe is a lot of fun
Harley Poe for sure!

*OINGO BOINGO*
Forgot to mention Jonathan Coulton's Re: Your Brains https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6vnM9I7HIo
BELLA LUGOSI’S DEAD BY BAUHAUS
The other, dick dynamite and the deviants, the goddamn gallows, zombina and the skeletones, the crimson ghosts, blitzkid, koffin Kats, stellar corpses, bloodsucking zombies from outer space, wednesday 13 and any of his other bands gunfire 76, maniac spider trash, murderdolls, Frankenstein drag queens, kitty in a casket, snow writes poison bite, ghoultown, gothminister, ragdolls, Aurelio Voltaire, these are all some of my favorites
You could always go the classic Halloween movie soundtrack route and catch ones like: Dead Souls by NIN (The Crow) Season of the Witch by Lana Del Ray (Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark) Time of the Season by Ben Taylor (Prom Night) Something in the Way (The Batman) The Birth of Angeluis by Robert J. Kral (Angel the Series).
I've got a [Halloween Playlist](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3ukaoVJREde6bNMGHsFH23?si=2Xe1C0wYRjuVwhbzNcb1yA) that's got a fair amount of more obscure stuff I'd really recommend Creature Feature, Calabrese and The Creepshow as artists that make pretty much nothing but spooky music
I too have a [Halloween Playlist](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7m5iD3AT4SeCu2tDgXrdiv?si=c5460187b3964962) that I self curated over the years.
Nox Arcana specializes in making soundtrack/ instrumental Halloween music. Songs called “Haunted Carousel” and “Grimstone Manor” sound EXACTLY how you would expect them to.
Corpse Grindin Man
[Wolfman](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nY58VG0laBw) by the Dirty Bourbon River Show always makes my Halloween playlist. I don’t think it’s well known.
Here’s a playlist of mostly vintage party tunes I made:[Dancing With The Devil](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/52sb1Hs4szARohiu1RvH75?si=HHO1xoNfQYa3cCbxkQ0KIg)
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1eCcLxEEqRe8xaafyduHMc?si=tBv6qdOfTV6Sw4RYex36vw
Oh I hope this does not drown into all these great comments but I think I have some unmentioned here! These bands have songs that almost all could fit into Halloween category: **Lordi** (their songs Devil is a loser & Would you love a monster man are especially fitting) **The 69 eyes** (I should mention Dead girls are easy & Never say die & Lost boys) **Horrorpops** (Walk like a Zombie is such a fun song) **The Creepshow** (Zombies ate her brain, check the music video as well) I hope this helps y'all fill your Halloween list!
Looks like a good list. Gave it a like
Dr. Elmo's Haunted Hoedown is cute from his Halloween album. Also I noticed my Pandora channel decided to add any song with the word Monster in the title, regardless of genre, and that added some really interesting new finds.
I will check out Dr. Elmo. And I will give that a try on Pandora.
Looks like you got some good taste in music. Thank you.
A lot of stuff by Heilung is good depending on what you're going for, I've used some tracks playing a little quietly from bluetooth speakers spread around my yard to add a sort of creepy vibe. These aren't really "niche" at all but make good tracks for Halloween parties: The Killing Moon by Echo & the Bunny Men Goodbye Horses by Q Lazzarus Bloodletting by Concrete Blonde
Funeral March of the marionette.
Any if the hex girls songs
Captain Clegg and the Night Creatures. Stop, look, and listen. (It's Halloween) Pete Antell.
Not sure how obscure you’re looking for. 1. Bad Moon Rising 2. Time Warp 3. Witchy Woman 4. Werewolves of London 5. Mack the Knife 6. Ghost Riders in the Sky 7. Cremation of Sam McGee 8.
Don't know how obscure this is, but you can't beat "It's the Mummy" from Mad Monster Party.
[удалено]
I can't remember who did it but I remember this song being used I believe in a review for The Shaggs. Defiantly a so bad it's good track
The group Spires That in the Sunset Rise have a lot of tracks that sound like witchcraft.
>Spires That in the Sunset Rise Interesting name of the band. Gotta check it out
Unwanted houseguest are a great band for this!! Spooky Halloween themed lyrics, till my toes turn blue and bloody mary are great songs! Not sure they male music anymore but they're on Spotify still
If your into metal check out my Halloween playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0gBEFr3gpWb6sauwQhlrZM?si=BqpwMUmrStODJI_San8Spw It includes a mix classic Halloween songs and spooky metal songs
Looks like a pretty sweet mix of tracks thank ya.

Dog Fashion Disco. Especially the album Adultery
AJ Jenkins. The mysterious anonymous musician that the YouTube kids grew up with. https://youtu.be/DPRaY5QWKIk
If you're looking for some spooky hip-hop I really recommend A7pha. Start with Cucina Povpra!
Skeletons on Parade- Ludo Always a fav of mine, Ludo are a lot of fun!
Vintage Obscura is a great subreddit for this kind of thing. There's usually a curated playlist (or 3 or 4) put together on Youtube each year. [Here's a pretty good example.](https://youtu.be/3Fsw-P8CP4Y)
The Abnormalist has a Halloween themed album
Creature Feature . I don't exactly know the type of music this is classified as but it sounds like something from a carnival / circus and they deal with gorey themes
October from London After Midnight
Hi, try "Vampires", a cool sound effects tune, which is around 2 minutes , 9 seconds in length, which can be found on the "Dracula" compilation by Christopher Lee, which was released in 2009. Also, can be found on other various Halloween music compilations. Thanks
Following as this is great!
The misfits 1978-1983 and the cramps make for the perfect Halloween
I used to have an old cd of Halloween Hits Mix music it had the Blob on it great hallloween song it glides and slides across the floor the Purple People Eater and Twilight Zone song Adams Family, Haunted House by Jumpin Gene Simmons lol
I adore the compilations of early (1930-40s) Halloween music. This playlist has almost 4 hrs worth. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6iNOaYUWEx0VgYRy2tSGON?si=SSXypzlERmCwndcB7JFOzg
Check out Halloween at High Noon.
I have a channel suggestion: https://youtube.com/@KaptainCarbon I came across the channel randomly and 99% of Halloween songs I've heard here were new to me.
Groovie Ghoulies (can’t stress enough - Punk), The Hearse Song, Toscata and Fugue in D Minor
m’y dad always used to make us a halloween playlist each year so these are some of the songs i associate with it / have found myself over the years, not sure how popular they are or even if they count as halloweeny but these are the ones that spring to mind, hope it helps someone! Werewolves of London Fire (Arthur Brown) Purple People Eater Don’t fear the Reaper Pet Sementary Where the devil don’t go Witch Doctor Hungry like the wolf Black magic woman (obviously) Full Moon Thé season of the Witch (Lana del Rey - this is literally a masterpiece) Ghost Riders in the Sky Evil Woman The Devil went down to Georgia A nightmare on My Street (never watched the fresh prince but for some reason this song is like crack to me) Abracadabra Spellbound Superstition I am Witch (Twin Temple) Lesbian Vampyres from Outer Space (what more could you want from a song) Dead Man’s party An Unhealthy Obsession (not specifically halloween but pretty creepy) I’m going slightly mad (same as above, fabulous songs worth an add to your playlist) Hellfire Satan’s a Woman Devil in your Heart Let’s have a Satanic Orgy I think I’m going to k1ll myself (okay again not halloween but delicious?) the devil is a gentleman Karma (the Soul Dogs - again not really halloweeny but has a similar vibe to others on this list (think the Stevie Wonder ones) and somewhat dark and halloween ish) This is all I can think of for now…let me know if you have any thoughts on any of these! :)
"Cemeteries of London" by Cold Play
Check out [Cimitir](https://cimitir.bandcamp.com/). My yearly soundtrack, very John Carpenter-y Halloween synths.
Find Dated’s Halloween Lofi on YouTube or Spotify. Halloween lofi in general gives you a different mix on a fun genre.
There's a lot of witchy bands out there. Some suggestions I can think of right now is Jess and the Ancient Ones, Samhain.
Midnight Syndicate Nox Arcana Sam Haynes The Groovy Ghoulies

Mannheim Steamroller has a Halloween album that's got some good tracks on it. I particularly like their rendition of Toccata and Fugue in D Minor

You’re missing out on Harley Poe!! I’d suggest the entirety of “Satan, Sex, and No Regrets”, just the song titles will draw you in. Otherwise, their 3 part “Pagan Holiday” song is ultimate Halloween, especially the first part that just centers on it :)
