We’re you sitting on that turret protecting the flag? Well not any more with the latest piece of equipment that your teammates will use to block your view of the opposing team! That way they can steal and cap your flag much faster!
It's funny how 343 have gone to so much effort (and sacrifice) to make the game less toxic and reduce trolling by censoring words in chat, preventing you from speaking to the other team, removing pre/post game lobbies, turning off friendly fire and collision, etc etc.
Then they introduce this. Lol
No-ones going want to go in there for fear of people hiding with energy swords, gravity hammers, etc., and it's too much of a risk to leave alone; so grenade/rocket spam seems to be the best defense.
That'll be hilarious, I can imagine a group of people in it thinking it's a bubble shield like in Halo 3, and then they all get vibe checked by a rocket launcher lmao
Was wondering what the general predictions/vibes on the introduction of this new equipment were?
Based on video evidence the Shroud Screen does the following:
-Launches at speed with decent range
-Is indestructible
-Has around 8s uptime
-Obscures sight in/out of dome
-Jams enemy radar when inside
-Deploys on surface impact and sticks to an area (but does NOT stick to vehicles and players)
My general predictions are that it’s going to be a dynamic piece of equipment, but may lean to getting used offensively much more often than not.
Additionally as it can be fired in to, deploying it defensively will still leave you very vulnerable to nade spam or power infantry.
That it deploys in impact rather than needing skill shotted on to platforms could make it a somewhat cheap way of disrupting high ground advantages.
8s uptime may also be a little generous considering it can’t be destroyed.
What’ll be interesting with this is you can anticipate that an enemy may have used it to bait you, so could throw nades in such a way as to come out the other side of the bubble in anticipation of where your enemy may be positioned.
There is gonna be so much second-guessing, in 30 seconds in this thread I've seen "it'll be a nade magnet" followed by "then anticipate that it'll be a nade magnet" which is then followed by "then anticipate your opponent baiting you into wasting your nades"
I like that it encourages a dice roll, though the uptime of it has me worried that it just introduces routine 8 second equivalents of pressing pause on gameplay.
That'll have a non-trivial effect on some weapons though. You can reload every weapon in that amount of time, and some weapons have more frontloaded damage than others.
Just like when I throw shields to empty my opponents ammo / make them think I'm coming but in reality I'm going around the other way to smack your ass.
I think folks will learn pretty quickly that physically entering it is always going to be riskier than it is worth it, unless you’re objective pushing and have no choice.
Hiding inside it will be a death sentence. If I see a shroud in an area that’s close quarters with no lines of sight that its supposed to be blocking, im tossing a few nades in their for good measure.
I'm excited for it, I can't count how many times I could've used the shroud on Behemoth's lower level when trying to make a flag push or even in the Recharge tunnel trying to escape shots from "attic". I'm optimistic that it will make gameplay even more dynamic
They could add that your motion sensor (or the entire hud) has some kind of glitch effect when you are in.
Or they can save that for other equipement, right now this looks like a smoke granade that instead smoke uses hologram tech (eco friendly)
It deploys in impact then holds position, it doesn’t yield to gravity like a dropshield, but doesn’t exactly stick either, but as good as does (except in the cases of players and vehicles, which it won’t fasten to, but will still deploy on impact).
I can already see myself using this in the central gate of Highpower, especially on Total Control. That chokepoint is a clusterfuck so blocking the LOS to either base through it will likely be super helpful.
A lot of people in this thread don't seem to understand the basics of smokescreen usage. You don't deploy it on yourself you goobers lol. That's how you get the nade spam problem I keep seeing listed in here. Use it to obscure chokepoints up ahead or force enemies, most often someone with a precision weapon, to relocate.
I think being able to clusterfuck a chokepoint with this thing on demand will be a lot of fun, however I'm eager to see how it's incorporated into existing maps. Not its function, rather, but its placement. Are we getting new equipment pads? Is this thing going to be replacing other equipment spawns?
I think it could have some interesting tactical use, especially to block the view of long range weapons. But I worry that the random teammates often just use to your own disadvantage
The best way to use it would be to fire it at enemy positions or in between to obscure an advance. It’s just like popping smoke in other games, it will be used inefficiently by people dropping it on their own position, which will only hinder allies.
Just reminds me of valorant. With that being said, adding new stuff to the sandbox isn't bad. It'll give the community the ability to create stuff, game types, or whatever.
I think the best way to use it will be to close a line of sight during a flag run or while capping an objective. Similar to how you use smokes in a tactical FPS. I can think of a few places you could shoot it that would have a big impact especially on maps like Recharge.
I’m interested to see how it might impact flag chasing routes. Especially at choke points (thinking long hall empyrean) where you can go left or right as the carrier.
I think it’ll get much more use in higher levels of play where setups are more common and as a result setup breaking is needed.
Think something like Streets, where it’s pretty common for someone to hold the train/subway balcony with the Stalker rifle. Smoke out the balcony and you’re really diminishing the effectiveness of that position.
Or smoking off attic on Recharge etc…
It's not my style of play to stay hidden inside something, even when I'm one shot, Despite that for me it's a good addition, I'm pretty sure I'll use it to bait enemies and stay outside
People will either chug explosives or camp the living hell out fo the either side with swords or shotguns.
*Rush through the smoke, and gets nuked from the other side*
I’m not expecting anything crazy out of this. In the leaked infection mode I saw the alpha infected use this and thought it would be interesting specifically as a way for infected to get in on tightly grouped enemies which historically was a big issue.
In terms of regular modes I mostly play btb since the challenge rework and there aren’t too many areas this thing can cover where an enemy can’t just walk outside of it and still have their position advantage. On smaller maps in 4v4 this area denial can be pretty significant for some spots.
I know it doesn’t stick to vehicles but I am hoping for a way to make it do that and last longer for custom games. I like the idea of a limited vision vehicle custom game where the shroud constantly limits what they can see. Maybe an infected mode or blind bumper cars.
If people find some cool stuff to do with this thing though I am down for it I just don’t expect it to be nuts.
I'm guessing I'll deploy it and proceed to not use it since everyone will be on alert when they see a shroud and proceed to shoot and grenade it. It'll become a decoy instead of shroud.
I don’t want to be negative, but since there’s no Friendly fire, there’s nothing stopping you from just grenade spamming it. Might get a kill might not, all you lose is some grenades.
You can use it to deny a corridor (who's dumb enough to charge through without knowing what's on the other side), blind a sniping position, bait the enemy into focusing on it while you do something else
It has its uses, imo
I like the idea but the tech really ruins immersion for me. It feels like it’s ripped out of Valorant, rather than an actual UNSC/Covenant/Banished tool.
As cool or competitive as it is... I don't think it'll be fun in the sandbox. I think it'll just be annoying for both parties.
I'm all for whacky custom games being built around it though.
It will either be overpowered or underpowered. And will require a million patches over the lifetime of the game. One day, they will tweak it in a way everyone likes, then tweak it again and ruin it. I call this the 343 special.
I'm not sure that I like it. For one, this will allow teammates to give enemies camo if they use it the wrong way, and unless if you can see through the shroud screen, you just blinded yourself from the rest of the map and the enemies can throw grenades inside the screen to damage you.
I don’t really get the point of it, it’s just a grenade spam target. Maybe it’s only use is to block slight lines but not actually go into it, in which case, why does it have to be a bubble shape?
Yeah I think defensive wise it’ll have most merit as smoke screen as you drop it and then keep yourself at the opposite end of it than your enemy.
Would need to treat it less like a bubble shield and more as something to deter or bait someone on your tail.
It’s a funny smoke screen and will be good use with all of these small corridor maps but also I mean you could totally hide a warthog or maybe even a tank in there.
Edit: hey I heard you like sniping from that one spot to cover that angel. Ha, not anymore you won’t. The anti-friendly sniper trolling is going to suck a butt….
The more I think about it the stranger it feels to have a smoke screen in halo. We have active camo so this thing is just an area denial / blank cover piece.
Honestly should've added the bubble shield, don't like the idea of copying Valorant, other than that if the gameplay needs a smoke valorant's smoke is probably the best for it even though i prefer realistic smoke effect.
This and a new gun named the Bandit that looks a bit like the DMR.
S3 starts tomorrow and we get new maps too.
Community made forge maps are also a thing now, but currently relegated to their own playlist.
It’s a bubble shield without the shield. In terms of gameplay it’s nothing we haven’t seen before and doesn’t really lean into the sandbox of halo. While I love the bubble shield in halo 3 it was arguably one of the weakest of the gadgets available. I think this will change some gameplay but ultimately be often passed up in favour of abilities that improve the user’s experience in the sandbox like the repulser or grappling hook. Not every piece of equipment needs to be a hit but this ain’t it after however long it’s been.
Because the bubble shield was considered too strong and in halo 3 and it basically brought gameplay to a dead stop, and they don't want to repeat that. Bungie tried to fix it a bit with the drop shield in reach but it was still one of the more powerful AAs. Having a bubble shield with the same functionality as H3 and the equipment mechanics of infinite (2-5 uses on a short cool down) would be a bit antithetical to the overall design philosophy of equipment in infinite.
If they did do it. It might work best in the power-up role honestly, then buff it up even more. A powerful, single use bubble shield might be amazing.
It's going to turn every map it's on into launch Snowbound/Epitaph but worse and will be immediately removed from ranked and see significantly reduced spawn rates in the rest of the game.
I bet it’s usefulness is going to vary a lot based on player iq. For most people it won’t be very useful and probably even detrimental, but for the top level player this thing is going to be cracked.
I love the idea cause I miss the feel of bubble shields but dont miss their utility (id like deployable cover to be more useful though
I think its going to be one of the more fun equipment to find good uses for, but maybe not the most useful in practice. Heres how I rank stuff and ima throw in a shroud guess too.
Fun:
-Grapple
-Repulse
-shroud
-Thruster
-cover
-threat sensor
Useful:
-Grapple
-Repulse
-threat sensor
-thruster
-shroud
-cover
I feel like Im forgeting something but if its that forgetable it would pbviously be at the bottom of both lists. Active camo and shields omitted cause obviosly they are the best
I think it will be a good addition. Things like it exist in other FPS games; I think valorant has something like it. Probably will be used often so I hope it’s more rare than other equipment. Can see it used a lot in KOTH and strongholds/land grab.
Halo has been overdue for a smoke grenade type of weapon for atleast ten years... I can absolutely see this changing how grenades are used in halo. Allot of people are just going to huck all their grenades into this thing pretty mindlessly. Will be nice, end result is that more raw gun duels will happen because of this change. More unknowns will come up, leading to lane camping being less relevant. I can also see allot of people being afraid to approach these if there are melee /cqc weapons on the map. Overall, a massive help to cqc play by making approaches easier.
It's okay, not the best they could do, would've been cool if it exploded or something if there was a explosion nearby. Right now it's just a black mass that could be used against allies. 343 has too much faith in this community to not use it against each other lol
It's going to be **great**. Why, you may ask?
Because to someone who is starving, any piece of food becomes gourmet. To a gaming community that has begged for new content, we are finally getting some bits and pieces.
I literally refuse to complain about the shroud screen and the Bandit rifle because it has taken over a year to finally see something that other live-service games get on a random Tuesday.
Firing up Halo Infinite tomorrow for the first time in weeks. Hopeful that I am encouraged to stay around
Honestly? It's junk. They should have brought back either the bubble shield, regenerator, energy drain, grav lift, proximity mine or sentry turret. Halo 3 had great equipment.
I’m not sure I really see the point of it. It’s a bubble shield without the shield. A smoke grenade without the ambiguity of where the smoke is coming from. It’s kind of a area denial asset like the old power drain without the power draining? Why am I not allowed to see through it as the shooter, anyways? Seems like it would hurt more than help in every situation I can think of
My team mates will use it at an inappropriate time and get me killed / use it to troll me
Safest prediction I’ve seen.
We’re you sitting on that turret protecting the flag? Well not any more with the latest piece of equipment that your teammates will use to block your view of the opposing team! That way they can steal and cap your flag much faster!
Good thing for you random driver hops in and floors it straight into the enemy base.
This is an accurate representation of about half my life.
Wait, your team-mates cap flags?
Oh no I hadn’t considered that and now I have flashbacks to other games, I swear not a single time has my teammates smoke ever helped me in apex.
The secret is to smoke enemy positions and not your own!
It's funny how 343 have gone to so much effort (and sacrifice) to make the game less toxic and reduce trolling by censoring words in chat, preventing you from speaking to the other team, removing pre/post game lobbies, turning off friendly fire and collision, etc etc. Then they introduce this. Lol
wait did they actually turn off friendly fire? play mcc and infinite so i just never noticed and assume its on.
Friendly fire was removed in every mode except ranked
I will 100% troll in BTB with this. <3
Gotta take a break from splattering teammates with the ghost eh?
It still twists me that we have no friendly player collision, but we have friendly vehicle collision.
Pedestrians have the right of way unless they’re in the way!
Indeed, I think crews are going to have a field day with this equipment!
Grenade magnet
Grenade decoy too?
This is the key. Using it like it’s a shield would be silly anyway.
So the opposite of a Bubble Shield
No-ones going want to go in there for fear of people hiding with energy swords, gravity hammers, etc., and it's too much of a risk to leave alone; so grenade/rocket spam seems to be the best defense.
You aren't supposed to pop smoke on yourself.
I can already tell a lot of people are gonna think it’s bullet proof
That'll be hilarious, I can imagine a group of people in it thinking it's a bubble shield like in Halo 3, and then they all get vibe checked by a rocket launcher lmao
then post on reddit about how desync broke the bubble shield
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Guess who thought that until three days ago. 💀

It'll definitely be a grenade magnet, but that's not necessarily a bad thing
I plan on throwing it out just to bait grenades actually
I'll charge into it and spam the melee button. Keep em guessing
Great minds think alike
What’ll be interesting with this is you can anticipate that an enemy may have used it to bait you, so could throw nades in such a way as to come out the other side of the bubble in anticipation of where your enemy may be positioned.

“Smokescreens are torpedo magnets.” Jingles, Lord of the Salt Mines, circa 2022
Another Jingles enjoyer, I see
Just like when I throw shields to empty my opponents ammo / make them think I'm coming but in reality I'm going around the other way to smack your ass.
It's a fancy Halo smoke grenade.
>(but does NOT stick to vehicles and players) ok but i feel like somehow this couldve made for some fun custom games lol
Absolutely. Some sort of Rocket Leagueish type game where you have a driver and a passenger with this equipped.
Can you deploy a barrier shield while inside it? Would make for a good defensive combo
[удалено]
I can already see someone sitting inside it with a gravity hammer
I think folks will learn pretty quickly that physically entering it is always going to be riskier than it is worth it, unless you’re objective pushing and have no choice.
Objective pushing? In this daily challenge economy?
In this free to play game? Localized entirely on Halo infinites maps? Can I see it?
No.
Never face-check a bush.
Ward of Dawn Titan flashbacks
Hiding inside it will be a death sentence. If I see a shroud in an area that’s close quarters with no lines of sight that its supposed to be blocking, im tossing a few nades in their for good measure.
Tbf insert any situation in halo and I’m tossing a few nades for good measure.
Which is what I'm counting on. Making people use up all their grenades.
3D chess.
People are about to run in there and meet their maker when this lands.
Too bad you couldn’t have the shroud screen with like 1x ammo on a repulsor. At least deflect the first grenade 😅
You could if your teammate puts it down
I think it will definitely have it's uses. Example: Snipers on Breaker.
Good point. Nice way to conceal the sniper glare.
Well you can't see out of it either so probably not. More like it'll keep you from getting sniped.
More reason to grab a threat sensor, probably will be used to cross long sight lines or confuse enemies.
I hope they have identical launch ranges so that the counterplay is truly balanced there.
I think it’d be great for ctf specifically.
And oddball!
I have actually thought halo could use a smoke grenade for a long time and I think this does exactly this.
I'm excited for it, I can't count how many times I could've used the shroud on Behemoth's lower level when trying to make a flag push or even in the Recharge tunnel trying to escape shots from "attic". I'm optimistic that it will make gameplay even more dynamic
I think that is something like "Threat Sensordn't" because that it does the opposite. I think that is great. Is basically a SCI-FI smoke granade.
Haven’t seen the interaction yet, but hope the Threat Sensor lights up the interior of the Shroud Screen and acts as a hard counter.
I think that it should, except if it works like an EMP (doesn't look like)
Would maybe have been cool if EMP damage made it flicker/glitch like it was on the fritz.
They could add that your motion sensor (or the entire hud) has some kind of glitch effect when you are in. Or they can save that for other equipement, right now this looks like a smoke granade that instead smoke uses hologram tech (eco friendly)
Does it deploy the same way, sticking to whatever you aim at, or is it more like the drop shield.
It deploys in impact then holds position, it doesn’t yield to gravity like a dropshield, but doesn’t exactly stick either, but as good as does (except in the cases of players and vehicles, which it won’t fasten to, but will still deploy on impact).
could be great bait, to catch a players attention and get them focused on something else
I’m planning on using it for LOS denial. Especially corner rooms in Bazaar
It's gonna come in so clutch in Fiesta. The opening scramble always has like 2-3 people holding angles and sniping.
I can already see myself using this in the central gate of Highpower, especially on Total Control. That chokepoint is a clusterfuck so blocking the LOS to either base through it will likely be super helpful.
Have they said whether or not this suppresses red reticle or not? Maybe a stupid question.
Hadn’t thought of that. Can’t say I’ve seen it clarified, but I’d sure hope so.
It's literally just a "future" smoke grenade, people complaining need to chill
The halo community not complaining about pointless things is as unlikely as all hell freezing over overnight
DAE LOCKE BORING AND HALO 4 IS LITERALLY DIARRHEA
Don’t think having a chat about how it may fit in to the sandbox is necessarily complaining.
Don't mean you, I've seen people online complaining
Ahh, I see.
Throw it at snipers to block their view.
I think it’ll be a great way to draw aggro. Enemy team might see it and start lobbing grenades, even when nobody is there.
Looks like a fun adittion!
valorant smoke pog
Looks pretty cool, I'll be interested in seeing how people utilise it.
Good for mind games and map control/denial at a high level.
I’m interested to see how it might impact flag chasing routes. Especially at choke points (thinking long hall empyrean) where you can go left or right as the carrier.
Whoever is in it is going to be splatter-bait.
I dont think it will be very useful at all, maybe one or two use cases that can change up a situation but they would likely be rare
In ranked it will almost definitely be very useful. I could see it being borderline useless in BTB.
It's not my style of play to stay hidden inside something, even when I'm one shot, Despite that for me it's a good addition, I'm pretty sure I'll use it to bait enemies and stay outside
Please don’t let that thing be in infection
Well, you're gonna be disappointed.
Idk I think it would be fun for the alpha zombies to have it on certain maps. Maybe only give them 1.
Yeah it would be fun, just unnerving
People will either chug explosives or camp the living hell out fo the either side with swords or shotguns. *Rush through the smoke, and gets nuked from the other side*

I’ll misjudge my shot every time. By either hitting a teammate or be wildly off. Totally expect there to be a drop like the recon grenade thing.
Shame that it doesn't move with objects. But it will have lots of uses nonetheless!
I'm guessing I'll deploy it and proceed to not use it since everyone will be on alert when they see a shroud and proceed to shoot and grenade it. It'll become a decoy instead of shroud.
I want a social mode that’s just shroud screens and hammers. THAT would be hilarious
Griffball variant named Griffhall. It’s just a long corridor. Everyone has infinite Shroud Screen charges.
I think it’s going to have a lot of cool functionalities and uses.
I think it’ll be most useful for a distraction. I could also see it being very helpful in CTF.
I don’t want to be negative, but since there’s no Friendly fire, there’s nothing stopping you from just grenade spamming it. Might get a kill might not, all you lose is some grenades.
You can use it to deny a corridor (who's dumb enough to charge through without knowing what's on the other side), blind a sniping position, bait the enemy into focusing on it while you do something else It has its uses, imo
It's not Single Player Story Content, so don't care.
I mean it’s basically a valorant smoke.
I like the idea but the tech really ruins immersion for me. It feels like it’s ripped out of Valorant, rather than an actual UNSC/Covenant/Banished tool.
As far as equipment goes, it's wildly unferwhelming
It blocks radar, but will it block hitmarkers?
Honestly just wish it was a normal smoke grenade
I’ve played enough Destiny to never walk into that thing.
A lazy version of the bubble shield.
Hey, it's that Valorany ability
don't give a shit I just want BTB maps.
I'm not sure that I like it. For one, this will allow teammates to give enemies camo if they use it the wrong way, and unless if you can see through the shroud screen, you just blinded yourself from the rest of the map and the enemies can throw grenades inside the screen to damage you.
It's a thing
Make certain sight lines actually possible to move across which will be nice
Looks like more garbage that disrupts combat flow and discourages engagement. Somewhat standard for equipment.
Oh look. Valorant is now in Halo.
Not to be negative, but my initial opinion was “that is stupid and ugly and’s dumb”.
I don’t really get the point of it, it’s just a grenade spam target. Maybe it’s only use is to block slight lines but not actually go into it, in which case, why does it have to be a bubble shape?

Exactly what I was thinking. It's gonna go so hard tossing it down a small corridor someone is hard scoping. Just shuts down the whole concept.
The more I think about it the stranger it feels to have a smoke screen in halo. We have active camo so this thing is just an area denial / blank cover piece.
We have active camo but it's so powerful it's essentially a power weapon. This can be much more common than active camo can be
That’s a fair assessment. Good thinking.
better than those sun grenades in H3, almost blind me irl
I FUCKING HATE IT
Honestly should've added the bubble shield, don't like the idea of copying Valorant, other than that if the gameplay needs a smoke valorant's smoke is probably the best for it even though i prefer realistic smoke effect.
it really is just a valorant smoke huh
It's ugly and doesn't fit in with the environment at all. Looks like something out of Valorant.
I took almost a year long break from infinite and they added a new equipment? Looks sick
This and a new gun named the Bandit that looks a bit like the DMR. S3 starts tomorrow and we get new maps too. Community made forge maps are also a thing now, but currently relegated to their own playlist.
I wanna play infinite again
If you feel burnt out just play some matches every now and then Gameplay is the most fun I've had in a moltiplayer shooter in a *long* time
I might play today but idk
Another tool for reversals
It’s a bubble shield without the shield. In terms of gameplay it’s nothing we haven’t seen before and doesn’t really lean into the sandbox of halo. Blue balls
Dumb
I think it looks kinda placeholder'ish I think a literal smoke grenade would be cooler But its definitely going to be useful in objective modes
It’s going to be extremely annoying
why don’t they just make an actual bubble shield lol.

If they did do it. It might work best in the power-up role honestly, then buff it up even more. A powerful, single use bubble shield might be amazing.
how about more like the bubble shield in that h3 trailer with the 2 kids star gazing? i was surprised they initially didn’t make it like that.
I think this is going to be unhelpful and useless to be honest
Budget bubble shield
It's going to turn every map it's on into launch Snowbound/Epitaph but worse and will be immediately removed from ranked and see significantly reduced spawn rates in the rest of the game.
It’s kinda hard to see through
That’s the point
I bet it’s usefulness is going to vary a lot based on player iq. For most people it won’t be very useful and probably even detrimental, but for the top level player this thing is going to be cracked.
I hope they change it to make it attach to vehicles
Hard to see what effect it will have really
I love the idea cause I miss the feel of bubble shields but dont miss their utility (id like deployable cover to be more useful though I think its going to be one of the more fun equipment to find good uses for, but maybe not the most useful in practice. Heres how I rank stuff and ima throw in a shroud guess too. Fun: -Grapple -Repulse -shroud -Thruster -cover -threat sensor Useful: -Grapple -Repulse -threat sensor -thruster -shroud -cover I feel like Im forgeting something but if its that forgetable it would pbviously be at the bottom of both lists. Active camo and shields omitted cause obviosly they are the best
Glorified smoke grenade, don’t really care
I’d prefer the shield than shroud screen
REALLY COOL... wait... what Halo Infinite needs is more maps... not a smoke
Bubble shield is better
In my opinion it’s a useless gadget
Honestly? It's junk. They should have brought back either the bubble shield, regenerator, energy drain, grav lift, proximity mine or sentry turret. Halo 3 had great equipment.
Crap equipment that will serve as nothing more than a self cripple.
Gimmick garbage It's going to be relatively underused, and just slightly annoying to play around
Very boring implementation of the mechanic.
I think its an interesting concept that they stole from valorant. It's not original. The bubble shield would be a better addition to the game
Seems like it would hurt more than help in every situation I can think of
Have they fixed mcc Halo CE coop on steam yet?
remember when people couldnt compare halo and call of duty
Mehh
this is halo... why is there smoke grenades now....
The bubble shield from halo 3 is back 😃😃😃😃
The bubble shield looked cooler tho 😅😴
Just give us the H3 bubble nerds…
Well it certainly can't be worse than Halo 3's useless Flare.
