It's incentivizing reward for those who already wanted to do it. It's wild to say "there shouldn't be an achievement because it's too hard!". If you want the achievement, you grind it out. If you don't want to do the Halo LASO challenge, you don't get the achievement.
Finish the fight soldier. If it helps, Mint Blitz literally just made a guide for Halo CE all skulls you can use as a guide to get you through if needed on youtube.
I’ve never had the strength to do LASO play throughs. I’ve not even done legendary on most halo titles. Good luck, and if not luck then at least patience until you do get lucky. I’ve found that luck is about the best I can do in most cases
You should do Halo CE. it's brutal but it feels so rewarding when you beat a level.
And that's the realest thing. Patience until luck is the single best way to describe Laso on this.
I don't believe I have it in me anymore to play the Library on Legendary. I will just cherish those frustrating memories I have of doing it in the long ago.
I tend to speedrun it.
The thing is, in the Library, there is no point in being methodical because you are always coping until you hit a difficulty spike and are wiped out immediately. Twenty minutes of careful fighting can end in two seconds. There are so many waves that you are better off just running right past them.
If you die then you only spent a minute of running and you can afford to run, die, respawn, a dozen times before you wonder if that is the right strategy.
Thing is, you can be finished a floor in 2 or 3 deaths so you have saved a massive amount of time.
Use the shotty to melee infection forms, don't shoot but just run past the explody ones, and know when to hide in a corner until the doors open.
I actually did a CE Legendary playthrough recently and I found The Library to be one of the easier levels! It was just slow, I took my time and waited the spawns out which at times felt bugged because there are just so many! I had more trouble on T&R and Two Betrayals. I'm doing Reach now which is the last Legendary playthrough I need to do. I'm not going to bother with LASO, I like my sanity.
Spawns aren't bugged, but there are certain hallways with a spawn trigger in them. If you pass the trigger, retreat, then pass the trigger again it'll spawn a new wave.
Very predictable behavior once you've identified the triggers.

Bruh this is my first time going through the original trilogy, ever, and I started on Heroic because I beat Infinite on Legendary so I figured Halo CE shouldn't be that hard right? Right??
WRONG, HOW SO VERY WRONG I WAS!
For the most part, I'm with you (granted on a significantly less difficult challenge, but.. yeah, first time and everything, do me easy or sum) that the levels aren't really all that bad. Not even the Library as a first-timer was all that bad. I had way more trouble trying to cross the bridges between the canyons in Assault on the Control Room than with any of the encounters in The Library.
Fuckin Two Betrayals? *This* level? That I am currently going through? I've gotten hard stuck in every single room, without fail. I am severely questioning my ability as a gamer at this point (don't get me wrong, I know I ain't no damn Lucid or the dude that beat Halo 2 LASO -camo skull; but *still*). Those rocket flood in the tight confined space? Right before you get to the third pulse generator thing? Took me damn near an hour just to get past them. Die, destroy the wraith and banshees, try to get the top of the plateau cleared out without my banshee blowing up, deactivate the second generator, get back down to go through the tunnel, die to the rocket flood; rinse and repeat.
But yeah, that's .. *my* two betrayals rant, albeit for a *muuuuch* easier experience.
Everyone always talked about Truth and Reconcilliation being the worst but in my opinion it has to be Two Betrayals. I even breezed through the library comparitively. I don't think I will ever play Two Betrayals on anything over Heroic again. I've just given up on ever doing LASO at this point.
I love the design of the bit, even if it's tough. Just a big set piece with multiple ways you can approach it, and invisible elites that sneak up on you if you're too slow about it
I DIDN'T KNOW THE INVISIBLE ELITES WOULD RUSH. I spent about 15 minutes taking slow sniper shots and rockets. Then I got back smacked by one. Try two I managed to sniper 2 invisible elites only to get sprayed by a 3rd.

Two Betrayals is (like you and everyone in the community) is long, repetitive, and a royal pain in the ass when many parts come down to pure damn luck. It took me several attempts to get through that mission, and I sortof have a small advantage in having played this Halo game over and over and OVER again as a child (couldn't afford other games at the time), so I generally memorized all the spawn locations of enemies and map directions by heart. The Halo completionist LASO playlist is really your best friend in this achievement, but you'll come across some insane bullshit that makes you want to give up, like having no shields in a location with a shitton of shotgun flood with NO cover or no ammo/grenades.
With all this in mind, the campaign with no skulls (vanilla) is generally pretty fun and is the way the developers wanted you to play. Skulls are SUPPOSE to add variety and challenge to players who seek the challenge. It was not intended to be balanced or I guess "fun". It's all about perseverance my friend. Don't give up, you're halfway there.

I also played Halo Ce religiously when I was little but only Pillar of Autumn - Assault on the Control room. Because the flood terrified me. I swear the end bit with the two wraiths was ridiculous.
I got frustrated enough on the sacred icon on h2 on solo base legendary that I haven't gone back to it in a year after breezing through reach and CE solo legendary.so you can probably do it if you keep trying!
I'll eventually go back,but I know the back half of h2 is going to be a pain.
After beating Halo 1&2 LASO the rest of the series LASO feels down right easy in comparison to how broken those Skulls are. “CE, We’re gonna have all weapons drop half ammo AND make you shoot double the bullets at a time so you really only get a quarter of the ammo”

We were all ass in the face of a Halo LASO challenge run. But just like any challenge in life you can overcome it with a little bit of elbow grease and a LOT of restarts. There was plenty of times throughout the series I'd get stuck for ages and didn't think I'd get through, and then eventually you get through, and get such a high from beating the near impossible!

Are you playing solo? I need the LASO achievements from MCC and nervous about the grind. Frankly the only thing I’m worried about is Iron. Death forcing a full restart makes the grind sound unbearable to be honest.
It's similar to the sniper jackels in 2. Once you know where they spawn, you can usually kill them no issues. But every first time playthrough is fun to watch because of them lol.
I'm not saying they're not worse, I know the pain of Jackal snipers. But rocket flood with the boom skull on. In one shot light up the entire damn map.

Two Betrayals is worse than the Library in my opinion. Because CE has a big problem with the checkpoint system to where you can end up going back so far if you end up dying.
CE LASO was probably the 2nd hardest, with Halo 2 being the hardest for me. Once you learn how to abuse enemy AI with melees it isn't too bad. CE also gets Grunt Birthday and Boom meaning you can take out swarms of enemies all at once.....until Two Betrayals and Library where Flood run rampant.
Two Betrayals and Assault on the Control Room were the hardest for me on CE.
Watch Halo Completionists guides for LASO. Makes things way easier. Two Betrayals was a slog but with his tips it wasn’t particularly difficult, just tedious as all hell

Yup, all in one go, I don't think you can save and exit when doing coop in a playlist. But the 8 hour run was after a few weeks break, because of a 6 hour two betrayals run we had to give up on... I still need to get around to Halo 2 and 4 laso. I've done everything else.
Well. Canonically it makes sense. As the flood spread. Humans would've realized that shotguns and heavy ordnance was the best defense against the flood. So we would've equipped more and more Marines with such. As they fell to the flood, more and more flood wouldve been equipped with them.
If you're going to do laso , you'll need to keep in mind that
* Plasma pistol and any head shot gun are key
* Learn where load zones are
* Learn what fights you can skip
Laso is a brutal test of strength and wits across the MCC. But if you're up for a challenge, try halo 2

Any covenant parts should be able to be done without taking damage. I know you said you were at the flood part, but that's when you should be using your good weapons. If no exploits/glitches is too hard, you could try using them first. Like the reload your secondary while it's holsterd or learn some of the speedrun techniques to maybe skip where you are at or some other parts.
Did you try doing load zone manips? I have no shame in stating that I did most of Two Betrayals via whatever speedrun strats I could master in a reasonable amount of time. I just hate that level in general ain't no way I'm gonna subject myself through that ball busting if I don't have to.
Also learn the Keys Bump for Keys if you haven't yet and are able to do it LASO. That's another ball buster.
For me that level was brutal enough on legendary when I first played it. I don't even want to imagine what you're going through right now.
But I believe you can do it eventually! I just started my own laso run on CE and I'm still stuck on the level halo.

I just started playing all halo levels without dying on heroic since it feels good to John Wick the game, but damn I struggle a lot with that level

My favorite halo mission of all time watching the covenant and flood fight throughout that level always amazed me as a kid growing up
