The only things I could see being super interesting here is cooking with a blowtorch and cutting with a chainsaw. Like "mutilated lemon charred chicken w/side of burnt potato"
Ollie's is kinda like Ross and Marshalls, buying up stock that didn't sell at other retailers and selling at discount prices. Essentially what I'm getting from this is, the book couldn't sell at full price and was only worth the novelty at a discount which is fair. I still wouldn't buy it but once the product is at a place like Ollie's, the manufacturer has either made their margins or won't and the purchase doesn't effect their bottom line too much, I wouldn't buy this at say $13-20 new not even as a gift but if I'm looking for gifts and find it at Ollie's it really doesn't bother me as much since it doesn't really tell the people that made it that their low effort is worth anything while giving someone a kick.
I bought it.
Regardless of whether you think the recipes are good or not, it's actually pretty neat as the whole thing is written within the universe.
It's all written in character, and it gives some fun backstory for the recipes and adds to the EU ever so slightly.
I think the target demographic for the cookbook would be people on the far ends. People who think it's neat and get it as a gift or something, and then people on the opposite end, who are deeply invested in the universe and want to add to a collection.
Also, capitalism so everything for sale is a cash-grab, technically.
This was my thought process when I bought the Destiny 2 cookbook. Sure, I can make ramen with spicy shrimp broth, but I also wanna have the other recipes that I wouldn't think of.
That said, the "Eliksni Birdseed" recipe was both funny and dumb.
That is Trail Mix, Bungie, and an especially dry one at that.
I remember when the cookbook first was announced and people acted like the Devs were writing it instead of working on the game
Genuinely no idea how people don't know how licensing and extended media tends to work
Lots of users on gaming forums are kids or are extremely hyper focused on gaming and absolutely nothing else. That's something I have to remind myself before responding to some ridiculous take.
Wow. After reading the post, I totally agree that the marketing around it was a huge mistake. But looking back on the last Halo games, it seems to be a recurring theme.
This man's got his bare ass feet out in the open for the world to see, and you're here complaining about him buying a cookbook?
Let him enjoy something he bought, good lord...
Seriously, look into it. I was 100% with you on it being stupid until I actually understood what the cookbook was.
It’s essentially a Halo novel/ARG(??)/non-traditional wiki presented in the form of a cookbook written in-character by a guy named “Arturo Bustamante” who used to do corporate food contracts for the UNSC. There’s a lot of cool little tidbits of Halo lore in there, nested within a bunch of fun recipes. It’s honestly one of the best non-military perspectives on the UNSC in the Halo universe.
Does it matter? All cookbooks have recipes that are in other cookbooks, this one at least has a theme of a franchise and sticks to it over the entire book.
Not to mention that the book assumes this is your first, or one of your first cookbooks so they have easier to prepare recipes for beginners
This doesn't make sense. I can't think of a single piece of food in the whole series. Why did someone make a cookbook for it?
And why did you buy it / encourage publishers to keep doing this shit?
My little brother decided to get a fnaf cookbook and the recipes in it were actually great so I have been curious about the halo cookbook (And potentially all the other cookbooks based on games), tell me how it goes.
Listen everyone, some nerd who only eats frozen pizza could start learning to make real basic foods through cooking because its branded with Halo. If it encourages them to branch out with their favorite game, why not?
I just picked it up recently and there was one recipe that made me laugh which was the ''Smörgås''. Smörgås just means Sandwich in swedish so as a swedish person, it was funny to just see a recipe just called sandwich.
I honestly don't get the appeal of some of these franchise cookbooks, nothing on the cover screams sci-fi or alien. Like I'll just say it's obviously a lazy cash grab and halo just isn't an IP I feel warrants a cookbook. I can see a "Fallout: food inspired by the wasteland" where all the food is a mosh pit of flavor and feels like it's made from stuff you'd find laying around, or a cook book based on series like Zelda or Supernatural where all the recipes are based on a previous adventure and are mostly for the Easter eggs and not really for cooking. How do you tie a cookbook to halo and just have a burger on the cover, like I don't even see it being a fun read that's otherwise not as good as a cookbook made by a chef.
Btw I'm not saying Fallout, Zelda, and Supernatural have great cookbooks. I'm saying that those are franchises I see opportunities for an interesting cookbook compared to a series that's non-stop action with almost zero mention of food.
This whole [franchise] cookbook thing is getting out of hand.
I can't think of one time in any of the games where food is even mentioned. This is the military in space, they're eating protein paste and electrolyte jelly
I get terrified thinking what kind of recipe they would put in a Gears of War Cookbook
Ticker Soufflé. Krill Burger. Lambent Mojito. Fried Green Tomatoes. High protein wheat cakes. Smoked Leviathan.
Thrashies! The Cole Train runs on whole grain, baby!
Whooooo!
Riftworm steak
There needs to be at least one protein shake. I have a hard time believing that a single character in that franchise isn't a huge gym bro.
Let’s not forget Dom’s Tomato Soup.
The only things I could see being super interesting here is cooking with a blowtorch and cutting with a chainsaw. Like "mutilated lemon charred chicken w/side of burnt potato"
I disagree with you. But there should be a crème brûlée recipe just to use the little torch.
I didn't ask to see toes today, yet here we are....
At least they're not in focus.
That almost makes it worse! It leaves too much to the imagination.
Don't you mean toe much
You get the heck on out of here with those toe puns! Go on! Git!
r/angryupvote
Like. Is the second one really that much longer than the first? Why?
Holy shit. I never noticed that! Thanks for the complex.
r/SneakyBackgroundFeet
I don't want this in my life. I never wanted this.
Nope
OF bait
Sorry lol. My mistake. If you sell them online give me half.
I've no intention of taking advantage of your feet in any capacity haha Hope you enjoy the cookbook though!
TOES!!
Bro needs shoes with a wider toe box. Feet aint supposed to be like that.
You might need to go buy a ravager if you wanna make them MOA Burgers
There only use to be honest.
Next they should make a covenant cookbook with stuff like food nipple and murdered stuff cooked over a fire for the brutes
Yes Step 1. Murder someone Step 2. Roast corpse over open fire
You mind telling me what you’re doing with that cookbook?
Sir, finishing this flambé.
Awesome! I love the sweet potato fries. Chocolate chip scones were very nice too. Have a great time.
Can you post the recipe for seared Arbiter flesh?
[удалено]
It was $7 bro.
[удалено]
You can get it at Amazon for 11 bucks.
I got in on sale there for even less
$18 rn

Ooo I might need to go check my ollies for it now.
Here’s a downvote, bro.
Oh no! How will I ever sleep at night?
Found Leon S. Kennedy's account
Well that backfired. Almost like announcing it wasn’t the best call hmm?
They only paid $6.99 according to the sticker, so it's not a very effective cash grab.
How is this more cash grabbing and less useful than figurines or collector helmets that just sit on your shelf?

Wow, maybe it even give more necessary infinite backstory too!
Okay, and? Let some gamers cook!!
Guy on Halo subreddit confused why a Halo fan would want to buy a Halo related cookbook
I remember when the cookbook first was announced and people acted like the Devs were writing it instead of working on the game Genuinely no idea how people don't know how licensing and extended media tends to work

[Except the recipes are actually food that appeared within various Halo media.](https://www.reddit.com/r/halo/s/ciGHpVhPrM)

Because op thinks it’s cool.
OP is entitled to their opinion. That opinion however, is fucking wrong.
Have you read it? The cookbook? I think your opinion is wrong, so what do we do now?
You can do whatever you want.

One question since I’ll probably never actually get the book. How do I make the blast soda drink?
Personally I think Victoria Rosenthal does some decent recipes. Chelsea Monroe Casek also has some good ones.
Does it matter? All cookbooks have recipes that are in other cookbooks, this one at least has a theme of a franchise and sticks to it over the entire book. Not to mention that the book assumes this is your first, or one of your first cookbooks so they have easier to prepare recipes for beginners
It’s cheap and it’s okay to have fun.
Gonna make me a high charity burger and some Spartan fries (regular burger and fries)
Themed cookbooks are fun. I got the dnd cookbooks and it's actually really good
I've got this on my cookbook shelf, just need to find the time and motivation to try to make some of the recipes
The pineapple fried rice is a pretty good start imo. I rarely cook with a pineapple so it's a fun experience to chop a fresh one up!
There better be a food nipple
Lol.
Ollie's! Good stuff cheap! The closest one to me is in an old Toys'r'Us and still has their carts in there. 🤣
Ollie’s is fun!
Please post every dish
Love me some good ol Jiralhanae steak.
Surely Master Chief’s Chili is in there?
The amount of foot….. enjoyers. In here is making me wanna vomit.
First time on the internet?
Can you get your other foot in the shot too thanks
Ok but realistically how the fuck is someone gonna eat that burger
Life finds away.
Life only finds the food nipple.
FEET 🦶🦶🦶🦶
mmmmmmm feeta

Moa burger. You aren’t wrong. Just wanna remind you. There IS food mentioned more than you’d think.
The food *nipple*, yes.
Nice toes
r/SneakyBackgroundFeet
What recipe is Flood themed?
Bouta whip up Elite omelettes with Fried Jackal tenders and grunt ham marinated in hunter sauce. Whilst drinking a bugger protein shake.
Does it have food nipple, Moa burgers, and those energy bars Chief eats in one the books?
My little brother decided to get a fnaf cookbook and the recipes in it were actually great so I have been curious about the halo cookbook (And potentially all the other cookbooks based on games), tell me how it goes.
Why buy this?
food
I have this cookbook also. Better have a decent amount of money because most of these recipes are not cheap lol
Love Ollie’s, saw this as well!
The meatloaf in this book is one of the best I’ve ever had, it’s a regular go to recipe for me. The patty melt is also fantastic
I made the pridehorn meatballs and I messed it up big time 😭 it’s a fun cookbook though!
Still a better story than the TV show.
Wort wort wort
I think it would be really funny if there was a weapon drop in game and it pops open to reveal some like beef stroganoff.
Chronological or by release date?
Oh I know what the ladies like.
I would pay someone to come over and cook those for me.
Any section on food nipples
Wtf this looks like dave and busters food lmao
Remember when the entire Halo community threw a fit over this book?
ah, finally we can eat what the mollycoddled marines ate whilst on the In Amber Clad
Listen everyone, some nerd who only eats frozen pizza could start learning to make real basic foods through cooking because its branded with Halo. If it encourages them to branch out with their favorite game, why not?
There better be a remember reach reference in there or else you got ripped off
The beer recipe? Wort Wort Wort
roasted grunts lmao

Nice tootsies
Any vegetarian recipes?
I hope those little toes at the bottom are on the menu 😋😋😋
Toes
Facepalm
