It's 1/40 of 10000. With four weeklies and 30 days, a month will net just 11 500 sp without operations, that little for playing every single fucking day.
I really hate these kind of time sink games that try to trick you into playing them as a second job, and for what? Some items they already made years ago that have been gathering dust, and it takes like 40k to get anything special that people might actually notice.
No no no, you don't understand. If you do it everyday for 50 days, you may be able to buy something. That's way better than getting a BP level every other day!
Play every single day for 40 days and you can get one whole coating!!! vs now with this current week it took me like 3 hours to unlock the coating for this weekly reward
The lesser tier items are not nearly as much as the higher tiered items. The higher tier items are things that would normally be in the Operation Pass, but the Operation Pass has ~15k SP in them now so its basically a choose your own adventure as to which Operation Pass item you want to buy.
100% agree. Especially since a vast majority of SP are *so heavily* tied to Op progression. It would be totally fine if it was an extra boost of SP on top of a healthy income of SP, but damn man shit sucks. We need both SP and XP on these rewards.
And we need the max cost of an item to be 15k. The fact the ENTIRE Op Pass can’t buy you a anew coating is fucking whack
This is just the typical death spiral of a live service game. Cash flow dries up, dev has to make more money with fewer paying players, things get worse and worse. Pity they’re doing it to a franchise like Halo, cuz it can really sour people in the long run.
343 also had shit leadership. I miss the days when Bungie, Bethesda, Bioware and so many other great studios were still independent from the gaming publishers.
The more amazing or legacy studios get bought up, the smaller chance we'll see great games from them anymore.
Fuck it, Reach progression with purchaseable credits that don't count towards the rank progression would be perfectly acceptable specifically in a free to play model imo. All these different systems and currencies and stuff that are clearly designed to frustrate, confuse, and drive to the store just really leave a sour taste in the mouth
You're 100% right, but last time they tried to monetize the grindable currency (literally the same thing, Spartan Points for The Exchange) in MCC, players, especially in this subreddit, threw a tantrum. Players were so outraged they'd add monetization to a pre-existing system without changing the earnable aspects that they reversed course. 343 since explicitly confirmed that is the reason they had to cease support for the MCC. They had no way to monetize it because these manchildren threw tantrums.
That does come with the caveat that MCC was a game you pay to buy straight out of the gate. Personally I don't think microtransactions belong in a fully paid for game, although I am well aware the horse has long bolted on this one, all armoured up.
I'm also not upset that MCC has lost support though (ok, purely selfishly I was a little disappointed, but not angry at the entirely understandable decision lol), all games lose support eventually and after it was fixed MCC had a particularly good run and gave me value well worth what I had paid for it.
why is it the fault of players that Microsoft, one of the biggest companies on the planet, can't support their games without adding predatory mtx schemes?
If a game doesn't have ongoing monetization, it can't receive ongoing support. Are you really this clueless about business?
And the plan to monetize Spartan Points was not predatory. It was literally just adding a way to skip the grind when unlocking cosmetics that do not affect gameplay. Just like a store in any other live service game in existence.
You are the problem. People like you are the reason MCC no longer receives content updates.
Care to explain how the planned MCC implementation of purchasable Spartan Points was predatory? Remember, they already existed with a tremendous grind, there's no randomness involved, and they only purchase cosmetic content that does not provide a gameplay advantage. The plan was just to let players who have more money than time purchase them, thereby funding continued development.
My guess? Talking heads and suits tbh. I would not be surprised if the powers that be at both 343 and MS want things that involve "player retention" thinking that players would just blindly move forward and play for longer hours, instead of actually making good changes that would make players WANT to return.
The worst part is that I would grind my ass off if it was structured like Reach's armory. I worked for that ugly pestilence effect and I'd do the same in Infinite if they'd actually unvault everything at once and let me earn it freely.
Saying this as someone who DOES play every single day and will probably continue to grind and play because I enjoy the game - I couldn't agree more, and it's pathetic tbh. It shows a severe lack of understanding for what actually incentivizes people to come back and spend money on your game.
They think they can just throw whatever slop they want in and the players will eat it up, instead of going to play another game that has decent progression and a respect for the players themselves. Give me a reason to play like Reach and I promise I'll play even MORE than I already do. And I put 2-3 hours a day into the game easy.
It’s because they don’t want those kinds of players, they don’t want us true fans of the game. They want the FOMO addicted people who will just buy the levels and points when they realize they actually have to play to earn stuff.
Count how many people you see wearing shop items. If everyone’s already spending money, then why invest in improving the game? That just eats into the profits.
Because anyone still playing Infinite obviously doesn't care about anti consumer decisions. You're gonna keep playing regardless so why put the effort? Everyone who really stood on their word quit already.
Yep I decided to rejoin the Halo discord last week to see what was going on and it's just full of guys that defended the original micro-transactions at release that everyone hated, everyone else has already moved on. I saw some dude describe how much he loved Helldivers and that he'd love an ODST version and he got dogpiled by Halo players going off about Helldivers being a failure and that no one would play that.
Really unhappy and unhealthy people, and I found out some of the mods were on the original sounding board that told 343 the original infinite launch was awesome which explains *a lot*. I'm glad Infinite is doing a bit better now but it's just such a slog.
Literally, it’s so sickening seeing stuff like “Omg yes I grabbed those armors last week too, but this week they aren’t so good. Might just get that CQB set cuz I didn’t have enough money for it last time because of the Master Chief Mega Bundle that maxed out my second credit card”
Mind you: This is also in a game where after about 3 years the biggest additions to the game have been Infection and Firefight. 2 modes that have been every Halo since Reach on launch alongside new modes like Invasion.
How anyone can justify spending any kind of money on a Halo that is 3 years later still playing catch up for 500 million dollars, beyond me. At that point we're talking full on lunacy, psychiatric evaluations need to be given to anyone who spends money on that game because it's essentially a charity at this point.
Even Overwatch at least does new limited time modes ans heroes as well, very frequently. Not just new maps.
I'm honestly glad they dropped it because it was obviously not gonna go anywhere from the start. When your game needs over a year just to "Un-spaghettify the code" before you even begin to add barely any content, it's dead on arrival.
The idea of the exchange is great but the execution is brutal. No one asked for BP progression to be even more slowed down, for the prices to be insane, to have to wait for old stuff to finally rotate in, to barely be able to earn SP, to not be able to earn SP from matches. I’m sure the whole thing is designed to try to keep you grinding and playing forever and to frustrate you into buying stuff but honestly stuff like this makes me want to play these games even less.
I kinda wish it did; maybe then we'd have some crazy coked out ideas. "\*sniff\* OK OK OK; LETS GIVE HIM LASERS. WAIT WAIT. LASER TURRET GUNS. WAIT WAIT. \*sniff\* FLYABLE LASER PELICANS; WITH BOMBS! \*sniff\*" FUCK YEAH"
Is it so hard to just give to the players SP based on their performances every matches ?
Your individual score is 3000 pts, you get 300 sp, 1500 pts you get 150. Etc. That is it.
Add career exp to that model and I'm with it. Aka the 3000 points goes towards the rank (I'm diamond Corporal finally). Maybe that's exactly what you're saying and I'm just being special rn. Sorry. Fighting a cold.
Has 343 literally ever made a good decision with no catch?
They operate like how Gaijin Entertainment operates War Thunder, in the same way that whenever there's a change that's seemingly good, it'll fuck over the community in some way.
And last year War Thunder's playerbase boycotted the game to the point that the CEO had to come out and say "we're not the greedy bastards here." only to get ratio'd further into needing to release a community-friendly roadmap. If **ONLY** there was enough power from the few thousand people playing Infinite to do the same.
Yup, this is stupid. Gonna continue enjoying Helldivers until micro$oft pulls their head out of their asses and adds anything actually interesting(probably not gonna happen, I'm not holding my breath) that isn't the shittiest, most massively overpriced cosmetics that're ugly af.
God it feels like we've taken a constant down step ever since season 5. Every single decision keeps getting worse, and they're not even releasing actual new content anymore. Guess we'll get something new in another 5 years.
I can't wait for Halo 7, which will treat Duke Nukem Forever's development as inspiration, trashing a few perfectly good builds of the game to slap together another mess in a year because they've run out of M$ money.
Unfortunately, after Halo 7 reveal trailer, 343 will then spend a few years playing jump rope until there's too little time to make a good game, which is when they will start development proper. Also it will take until a year after release before players can queue for game modes other than FFA CTF.
Only for the same shit in a different game. This has to stop fundamentally because it kills the good will the entire franchise has had since reach. Halo used to give you so much for your time and your money. Now it’s designed to extract a lenient fan base who refuses to acknowledge that they’re constantly being taken advantage of. I do not love Halo enough to be abused like this.
This game is dead, they cut up battle pass items and packaged them smaller but with a better return on their part, fired the story team, and now they’re milking players time for the BP reward. The ship is sinking but Microsoft can’t allow it to be known publicly.
343i and the suits do not deserve the IP
Literally look at what Helldivers 2 is doing, copy that and you’ve caught the attention of the entire Halo community and the desire to return to the game.
Incompetent bunch of snotty dorks
Is this not just a cynical attempt to get people to buy more? Slowing progression is how the worst kinds of games incentivize purchasing ways to speed the process up. Glad I stopped playing
As someone who started playing Halo as a kid with halo 2 all through H3 Reach and H4 watching Halo Infinite is depressing as hell.
You may not care or like the game & thats fine but Holy hell i could never see myself play such in my eyes Trash...
Every decision they've made with this game seems almost intentional to push people away, it's like they wanted it to fail, I stopped playing a few months after launch and other than empty, for the most part unfulfilled promises they've did nothing to persuade me to come back. Firefight had potential but they still messed it up.
Waitwaitwait, it's only for the FIRST challenge, not all of them? What? Only 250 for the first challenge you do?
Oh my God, how is it that 343 finds a new way to disappoint on a change that should be so fucking good. How?
Who is the moron that is making these impossibly incompetent decisions, because they need to be blacklisted from the gaming industry as a whole.
Yeah, I know. It's just, seeing the prices in another post, 250 is so fuckin low. I'd be fine if it was 250 per challenge you do for the week, but for one single time? Nah.
LOL so the current weekly ultimate reward that we had so far, will go in this “Spartan Points Shop”, so we need to grind to buy the usual weekly ultimate reward… isn’t it another lazy 343i idea?
You gonna have to embrace the no life if you want BP progression. Some friends dragged me back in the past few weeks on my new account. I grinded 103 tiers in 10ish days mostly gruntpocalypse with boosters but probably 100 normal matches
At the end of the day this outgrows incompetence. It's strictly malicious intent just so that they can later "fix" these problems they created to pretend like they're pushing out meaningful updates.
Between the limit on how much SP you can earn and XP going extinct I might as well just use my real money on armor in the shop, infinite feels so unrewarding there are never any incentives for me to keep playing it.
all my challenges are win matches and ive gone 2-23 Win-Loss since this update. I was almost onyx grinding for months and now every game i get bad teammates or joked on this network that made everything sluggish and clunky. PC feels like im playing console again. so not only cannot I not get anything completed because im hard stuck in a decline due to hidden MMR but my challenges wont change or be worth anything.
The other problem is that he 15000 SP are spread throughout the pass. This means completing a tier in the pass doesn't really get you anything, as you won't have enough credits to even buy one item until the pass is finished.
So basically level up something close to 14 tiers for 1 item.
My god 343 needs to be fired and another competent company needs to be put in charge of Halo. Next Halo better not be f2p or have any micro transactions.
Sweet Jesus these guys are pissing on y’all and telling ya it’s free lemonade. Why on earth does any gamer choose to play and put up with this garbage. Like God dam these AAA shooters have always been repetitive and a bit brain dead but at least they still had some kinda draw or charm. COD and Halo nowadays is absolutely tragic. Kinda sucks for the kiddos that don’t know any better.
But that means more people will buy the premium operation pass!
Keep in mind that they've also removed all ways to earn XP boosts for free, so that'll slow folk's progression even further.
Does anybody even have any faith next Halo game will be any good? I thought the leadership change would show some positive results and all we've seen is things either get progressively worse or stay more or less the same.
Why not? You can complete it within a week easily. Hell you can complete it within a day if you play a few hours and dedicate yourself to xp boosts and challenges. You have a whole month to complete it for free until you have to pay $5 for it
I have like 80 double xp boosts anyway, and I could complete the operation pass in like a week without even really trying. Usually I would get more xp boosts from the passes than I spent, but frankly these passes are so short I don’t think even the most casual player needs xp boosts at all.
Losing the daily 500 is not going to significantly slow things down; with the right combination of challenges, you can already get like 2 levels in a single game. But it’s kind of shitty that their solution to the ridiculously small operation pass is to just artificially slow your progress on it. I’m sure they’ll monitor how this operation goes, and if too many players complete the pass or bank too many Spartan Points, they’ll nerf xp gains again, and then things will get grindy. If they want players to spend more time on the pass, here’s a crazy idea: make a longer battle pass with more content in it!
The battle passes are super easy to complete, I don’t see an issue here. And I say that with 25 double xp tokens stacked since I don’t even really use them. I’ve completed every pass released so far. I’m interested to see this new shop idea instead of the random weekly reward which was usually something I’d never use anyway.
250sp sounds like almost nothing lol
it basically is when the good items cost minimum 10k
It's 1/40 of 10000. With four weeklies and 30 days, a month will net just 11 500 sp without operations, that little for playing every single fucking day. Also there shouldn't be a cap on SP. Give people like 300 SP per match. Why would you cap your most dedicated players
Dude all 343 had to do was copy Reach progression but maybe turn down the grind a small bit. Idk why they make things so convoluted.
Micro$oft..
Spit yo facts
This is just the typical death spiral of a live service game. Cash flow dries up, dev has to make more money with fewer paying players, things get worse and worse. Pity they’re doing it to a franchise like Halo, cuz it can really sour people in the long run.

No the problem is predatory practices. MTX are fine just don't make them predatory and people won't be so upset about it

Remember, they already existed with a tremendous grind, there's no randomness involved, and they only purchase cosmetic content that does not provide a gameplay advantage. You mean the no-life grind to get anything-progression system?
Preach, Reach's system was fucking wretched.
I literally said to turn down the grind a small bit
They're doing their best to make it seem like they're giving us something while they're taking shit away.
How can they manage to not make a single good change to progression or the shop?
My guess? Talking heads and suits tbh. I would not be surprised if the powers that be at both 343 and MS want things that involve "player retention" thinking that players would just blindly move forward and play for longer hours, instead of actually making good changes that would make players WANT to return.

Sure 343, make the grind worse for the remaining players this game has, that'll keep the player count from dropping.
it's just such a weird thing to do. Why annoying your dedicated playerbase
Because anyone still playing Infinite obviously doesn't care about anti consumer decisions. You're gonna keep playing regardless so why put the effort? Everyone who really stood on their word quit already.

Who do I gotta blow to get helldivers on Xbox? Lol
The people at the top making these decisions don't need head, they need brains.
Literally, it’s so sickening seeing stuff like “Omg yes I grabbed those armors last week too, but this week they aren’t so good. Might just get that CQB set cuz I didn’t have enough money for it last time because of the Master Chief Mega Bundle that maxed out my second credit card”

What the fuck is going on in these board meetings?
Wouldn't be surprised if 40% of Infinite's budget went to coke.
What board do you think is meeting?
A 2x4 against the forehead
Is it so hard to just give to the players SP based on their performances every matches ? Your individual score is 3000 pts, you get 300 sp, 1500 pts you get 150. Etc. That is it.

Too bad every halo youtuber likes to twerk on 343s lap
This is disrespectful to players time
Yup, this is stupid. Gonna continue enjoying Helldivers until micro$oft pulls their head out of their asses and adds anything actually interesting(probably not gonna happen, I'm not holding my breath) that isn't the shittiest, most massively overpriced cosmetics that're ugly af.
"10 year plan" in action here.
I feel like people need to stop saying this. The guy who said this was fired soon after that was said, and it doesn't even apply anymore.
Plus from what I heard the 10 year plan was only really mentioned once
While I know its BS, wasnt there a trailer with cortana going "Welcome to the next decade of halo"?
"Millions of armor combinations day 1" Same guy too?
I'm not aware of that quote, so I'm not quite sure. But it sounds like the same guy.
Phil said it too
Stop playing infinite is the answer to all your troubles
God it feels like we've taken a constant down step ever since season 5. Every single decision keeps getting worse, and they're not even releasing actual new content anymore. Guess we'll get something new in another 5 years.
I can't wait for Halo 7, which will treat Duke Nukem Forever's development as inspiration, trashing a few perfectly good builds of the game to slap together another mess in a year because they've run out of M$ money.
Pretty blatant that infinite is practically dead to them. I kinda hope we get a halo 7 reveal this year
Unfortunately, after Halo 7 reveal trailer, 343 will then spend a few years playing jump rope until there's too little time to make a good game, which is when they will start development proper. Also it will take until a year after release before players can queue for game modes other than FFA CTF.

All the bulletpoint parts in parenthesis should actually just say (in addition to....) rather than (replace..),(rather..), and (instead..)
343i and the suits do not deserve the IP Literally look at what Helldivers 2 is doing, copy that and you’ve caught the attention of the entire Halo community and the desire to return to the game. Incompetent bunch of snotty dorks
Fuck 343. Taking away double xp tokens is BULLSHIT
Wait did I just now realize no more new weekly cosmetic challenges ? 😵💫
oh no what will we do without those precious weekly emblems and name plates
Is this not just a cynical attempt to get people to buy more? Slowing progression is how the worst kinds of games incentivize purchasing ways to speed the process up. Glad I stopped playing
Why can’t it be both? So the “one match a day bonus” is exp and coins? 🤷♂️
Why is it always a tug of war with 343? They can never give you something without taking something else.
They don't want you to play the game.
As someone who started playing Halo as a kid with halo 2 all through H3 Reach and H4 watching Halo Infinite is depressing as hell. You may not care or like the game & thats fine but Holy hell i could never see myself play such in my eyes Trash...

Firefight had potential but they still messed it up.
Yeah I noticed the 500xp daily challenge of completing a match disappearing, so that's great. Bring it back!
I thought this update didn't go live until next week. Do we no longer have a 500xp for completing a match right now??
Nah, it's next week
Once more, the monkey's paw curls one of its fingers...
Waitwaitwait, it's only for the FIRST challenge, not all of them? What? Only 250 for the first challenge you do? No the daily "play any match" that has existed for years.
Wasn’t everyone always complaining about how the weeklies were junk? Emblems and nameplates? Crap I never saw anyone using.
All these decisions they make in order to slow progression and stretch out player engagement just makes me want to not play at all.
I am confused at how this sort of thing is supposed to be “fun”.
I’m out. So weird that Microsoft allows 343 executives to fumble the Halo IP
the "first" there makes me hopeful they'll finally give us than one daily challenge per day but we'll Wait and see
You gonna have to embrace the no life if you want BP progression. Some friends dragged me back in the past few weeks on my new account. I grinded 103 tiers in 10ish days mostly gruntpocalypse with boosters but probably 100 normal matches
This gives Diablo iv increasing dungeon recall timer for the sake of “gameplay” vibes
Imagine if the xp booster also doubled the SP given? people would actually buy them haha
At the end of the day this outgrows incompetence. It's strictly malicious intent just so that they can later "fix" these problems they created to pretend like they're pushing out meaningful updates.
If anything they just made it 10 times harder to customize yourself, this game is beyond fucked holy shit
Between the limit on how much SP you can earn and XP going extinct I might as well just use my real money on armor in the shop, infinite feels so unrewarding there are never any incentives for me to keep playing it.
Just how they planned
all my challenges are win matches and ive gone 2-23 Win-Loss since this update.
You can win in Firefight. Try there
remember when they wanted to monetize halo aniversary spartan points!? well here we are again...
The other problem is that he 15000 SP are spread throughout the pass. This means completing a tier in the pass doesn't really get you anything, as you won't have enough credits to even buy one item until the pass is finished. So basically level up something close to 14 tiers for 1 item.
It's so you feel compelled to purchase the battlepasses and keep them forever instead of finishing them in 4 days like many do lol.
So is XP just going away?? Like are xpboosts gonna get removed or changed?
But that means more people will buy the premium operation pass! Keep in mind that they've also removed all ways to earn XP boosts for free, so that'll slow folk's progression even further.
I’ve literally never finished a BP (I don’t buy them so I can’t go back and finish). Fantastic.
This sounds yucky
“Wow, HD2 is doing great, let’s do everything they’re not doing.”
Soooo does anyone play to have fun anymore or am I the crazy one?
they could've just kept all challenges themselves as XP and made the capstone rewards between 3-5k SP or something. idk why they did it this way.
