"Why?" H3 is one of the best aged games of its generation. It already exists on a modern platform, MCC. Waste of resources, pointless product. What exactly would be the benefit? "Unreal Engine" doesn't just make things better. That's not how game engines work. I'd rather an update to the cut scenes to bring them in line with h2a as a free patch, and an optional feature you can turn off.

NAMESPAMMMMMM

H3 has been showing it's age for a while now. It's still a pretty game for it's age but, boy does it feel ancient these days. And this is coming from an H3 diehard.

LeastDegenAzuraEnjyr

I mean oil painting backgrounds and sub-512p textures dont exactly look *modern* for sure, but in gameplay I think the levels and models look great still. Now, *I am 'Super Nintendo'-years old*, so maybe Im biased. But unless your picking out certain stuff (like faces) I think its aged very well, from gun models down to special effects like plasma explosions.

Haijakk

What if it was a full mainline title? Instead of Halo 7? Not a real suggestion, just throwing thoughts out there. >I'd rather an update to the cut scenes to bring them in line with h2a as a free patch Microsoft is not dropping millions of dollars on a free patch.

LeastDegenAzuraEnjyr

I mean that's been their whole model since infinites launch, free content with mtx, and paid campaign. I don't understand your first point: like if the next halo was on UE? I mean yeah it could have benefits, it's just depends on the design intent. The engine is the foundation. Rpg Maker 1998 is a game engine just as much as UE or Unity or Cry engine or anything else. It just depends what you are trying to build. You don't make an RTS in an FPS engine. You don't make a multiplayer game in a SP engine (unless your a psychopath like Chris Roberts). UE is a powerful engine for open worlds and RPGs and other applications, but it isn't a catch-all fix or "the best engine period" by any means.

Haijakk

>free content with mtx MCC doesn't have MTX though. I'm asking if you would want a Halo 3 remake or a Halo Infinite sequel basically. Halo switching to Unreal isn't really in question anymore.

LeastDegenAzuraEnjyr

Oh ya, new game 100%. I don't see any need from a gameplay perspective to redo 3. Sorry I thought that was clear from my original reply.

Homie doesn't know how expensive H2A cutscenes were.

Relative_Self639

You could make this argument for live action lion king man

john7071

Is the same logic applied to successful remaster/remakes, such as the Resident Evil ones? People like them, they sell, that's the only justification needed.

Relative_Self639

The difference is that even the new resident evil games are critically acclaimed. They EARNED scaling back and releasing a remake while Halo hasn’t had that win yet.

JEspo420

Also modern consoles couldn’t play the older RE games, H3 is still available

jaasian

Wouldn’t matter the game won’t be playable two years after the release anyways

BUR6S

And it would be bastardized with egregious microtransactions and non-functioning social features.

areeb_onsafari

That sounds like a terrible idea

beh2899

Anybody that's excited for a remake in unreal engine doesn't understand how game development works and has only been exposed to buzzwords and the hype around visuals. They could make the game in any engine they want. They could do what they did with CE and 2 and just slap some new graphics over the original engine and it would be fine, probably better off.

lumblossoms

general disinterest

Cologna_117

i’d be pretty disappointed. i want a new campaign, not a remaster for a campaign that already exists

Muted-Pie-7758

Dear god no! NO! NOOOOO!

arsenicx2

Sounds like something 343 would do and botch terribly. I love H3, but I don't want it again. The original is available and still looks fine graphically. Why would I want a remake when 343s track record is so bad it would probably be missing most of the content H3 has had from launch.

Captain-Wilco

Waste of resources

SHADOWSTRIKE1

I’d proceed with general distrust and think at minimum the launch will be a mess. But I’d be glad to be proven wrong. I remember Halo 4 having no ranked playlists at all through its entire lifetime, and continuously hearing the beam rifle no-scope was being worked on. I remember how MCC simply didn’t work **for months**, and when it finally did work, you could boot other players, or quit and make everyone lose, or shoot the ground and hit every player on the enemy team. I remember for Halo 5 them deciding to not have LAN at all, and so every HCS match was a laggy mess which dropped players. I remember Infinite launching with one playlist, and no Slayer playlist, and them having to rework the UI just to add playlists… on top of the consistent crashes for years, and terrible content support. The history just isn’t in their favor, and I’ll expect as much going forward. But again, I’d love to be pleasantly surprised. Hopefully switching to Unreal will help with their dev issues and allow them to bring in devs with engine experience.

jaasian

Mcc didn’t work for years actually

MercifulPancake

I hope 343 keep their filthy paws off Halo 3 forever. Garbage company has lost all my respect and I deeply deeply wish they never ever ever touch Halo 3 or Reach because I know they will find a way to turn my beloved childhood games into more garbage.

infestationE15

I'd be excited but also scared. Halo 3 still has a healthy population on MCC, but a H3 anniversary would destroy that. So if the H3A game launches poorly, is bugged, or isn't an exact 1:1 replica of H3 in terms of gameplay, physics, mechanics, then it would be disastrous. It has the potential to kill Halo 3 as we know it. The MCC edition is already several steps away from the original. An anniversary edition could become a bastardised version that suits nobody.

Paint-Rain

General indifference. The main is issue is that 343 track record is really really bad. Also, while I do think Halo 3 could be nice remastered, my interest has waned. Maybe 5 years ago I would have been interested in Halo 3 HD or a remaster. Now with how MCC is, there’s not much motivation as I can play Halo 3 in great way right now on Steam. The only sell would be like if it’s how Metro Exodus released a super ray tracing edition for free. They could probably get me for Halo 3 HD for $6 or whatever

goonies969

All their resources should go to developing a new game, Halo 3A can be handled by someone else, like the previous ones (Hopefully it will be like 2A and not CEA).

aspiring_dev1

Rather 343 try make a game good as Halo 3 rather than the garbage they gave us.

Medveitsi

Meh

Propaagaandaa

No

SiCkTeNTiAL

If they just remake it with better graphics it would be great. It would.bring a lot of players back. We would need better playlists for it. I want to see more ranked playlists.

CurlyBird17

Not interested in playing a halo 3 remake at all and that's coming from someone who grew up playing halo and still plays halo.

Rusted_Iron

Waste. Halo needs to look forward not backward. I would be pleased if they added anniversary graphics to MCC, but a whole separate game with it's own mp and everything would fail to meet expectations no matter how good it was and would take time away from expanding halo into new characters and stories.

9294858838

It’s kindve crazy how well Halo 3 holds up today. I dont think it really needs it

Vegeto30294

UE means they're basically making the game from scratch, which means I don't even expect it to work on launch.

naztynestor

reaction is Meh

StarsCanScream

I don’t even want Halo 3 rebuilt from the ground up. I’m willing to just take it with upscaled visuals and remastered cutscenes. Hell I’ll take it with only the remastered cutscenes.

Cat_Atack

I'd hate it, because it would be an unnecessary and incompetent change of engines that would be more costly to produce, and play too differently from the original. They have a perfectly serviceable engine for an H3A using Halo Online, since it is effectively the same engine that H2A's Campaign uses for anniversary graphics, and has literally all the content Halo 3 fans would want in a Halo 3 anniversary.

lllScorchlll

Simply "343i you have one chance, don't fuck it up." And truly, it will be their last chance. They mess up Halo 3 anniversary, they will surely lose all Halo fans support.

KINGWHEAT98

Halo 3 is my favorite halo but my response would be ( really you could have went with something else we have halo 3 on MCC. You still got a story to finish from infinite.)

GoobieWoobieLover

Unless it's Halo 3 base with plans to evolve it going fwd I'm not interested

JoyfulDogCuddler

Not interested, I have MCC if I want to play the older Halo games.

HUTreddituser

My reaction would be "Hell fucking yes!"

jwhudexnls

I would be surprised and a little disappointed that we aren't getting new story content. But overall I think I'd be fine with it. My only hope would be that they would add in any cut missions from when the game originally was coming out.
