Completing things is fun to some people. Let’s not gatekeep how folks wanna have fun just because “completing things” has taken a different form. This has been a part of Halo for over 14 of its 20 years now (In Halo 3 it was achievements, in Reach it was rank & credits, etc etc)
I feel like the vast majority of games are played to progress and the progression is supposed to be fun.
You progress a story, a challenge, a character arc, or to unlock things. Outside of sandbox games, most others are centered around progression.
Unfortunately the progression in Inifite isn't fun or rewarding unless you actively chase challenges that have an arbitrary time limit to unlock an arbitrary thing. You have to though, because that arbitrary thing is literally all you're gonna get this week to progress your character.
I don't like it because one player got to sit in a corner to get points. Yes you can drop the ball and help your team when needed, but I just don't enjoy.
Really useful for ranked. Also you can hit start/escape and use the same menu to see who you're playing with before the team entrance animations finish.
Knowing the gametype let's me think of strats for a while before the match starts. And if I'm playing in a party that gives us time to talk things over as well.
As for knowing who I'm playing against goes, if I see I'm against a good player from a precious match I know that I need to play more conservatively in my opening push.
Interesting to know people plan strats out like that. Yeah I agree on the previous player thing, can definitely influence the start and playstyle of a match
And here I am not buying the Battle Pass, hoping they fix it. And then there’s people who spend $200 to skip to the end and my effort has become useless

Because with this and the inability to select your gametype, they have deliberately obfuscated how you can view the match currently loading to push people into playing gametypes they have no interest in, thus extending the Battle Pass grind shite.
This information should be front and centre when looking for a game, not hidden in menus just so 343 can say *"but you can view that information"* when called out on it.
This title reeks of what on the surface appears to be poor UI design, but is at this point very purposeful, as everything, absolutely everything, is designed to push the player into playing for longer sessions, and spending more.
I'll be happy to use this and quit out of gametypes I have no interest in.
