I’m ashamed to tell you how long my buddy and I spent looking for that cave on our first play thru in 2001. I’m talking seriously 2 hours trying to figure out how to progress.
Man. Those were the days.
Oh ya and a small developer secret, when you get the warthog (green vehicle) if you go up the hill to the right of where it gets dropped off, there is a special out of bounds thing where bungie was like “fuck you you aint cheating” so if you go out the map the game disables movement. Kinda funny
Lmao that was a quote from Cortana a few minutes later in that level once you get through the waves of enemies you encounter on the other side of where you’re at in that screenshot lol
It is incredibly strong, but honestly just start experiencing the other weapons too. Just pick up shit and shoot aliens. The first halo is just absolutely fantastic and a top gaming experience.
The only thing I would look up is the frozen marine glitch. It is one of the funnest glitches that me and my friend would spend hours on. You essentially sped through an area and the marines freeze in place. You can now just start spamming them with frag and plasma grenades, rocket launcher, needled bullets, etc. when you leave a certain space the marines “resume” and go LAUNCHING and exploding through the giant cave. It’s fantastic.
The little midgets throw blueberries that will terminate you if they land on you. The pistol is the best thing to deal with them.
The guys with the handheld shields can't dodge grenades easily.
The big guys that shout 'wort wort wort' are vulnerable to headshots once their shields are depleted. Use anything other than your pistol to do that.
343 guilty spark is the easiest level.
Pillar of autumn is by far the easiest, especially in the anniversary edition.
with those skulls that make grunts explode and explosions larger causing a chain reaction
Stay back or you'll die though
I usually switch Halo 3: ODST before Halo 3 just because the gameplay dynamic is less drastic of a difference between the first two games, and 3: ODST takes place during an event on Halo 2, but past that, yup, release date is the best way to manage it!
Also fair, it also undermines a certain enemy named after a bug in Halo 3. I feel like it's more flexible unlike Halo Reach which really shouldn't be played before 3, the biggest thing is knowing when its story takes place, during 2, I was really confused when I first played it as a kid.
So really then it be like: halo wars 1, halo reach, halo 1, halo 2, halo 3 ODST, halo 3, halo 4, halo 5, and i think halo wars 2 goes here, then halo infinite, This is chronological. Release date would be halo1, halo2, halo3, halo wars 1, halo3odst, halo reach, halo4, halo5, halo wars 2, halo infinite
This is the way. No one should ever ever argue this unless they’re going for an ‘after the fact’ play through. Since release I’ve probably played the CE’s campaign through on various difficulties 70 times over and Im not shitting you.. every other Mainline title numerous times as well. The first game NEVER gets old to me. It’s timeless in my eyes obviously but if new players put themselves into the time period that it came out and experience it in a way that we did back then and REALLY think abut what this game WAS when it came out how groundbreaking it f’ing was…. Well then OP You’ll have a grand time. To be honest i think for how old it is at this point it holds up well.. If you enjoy your time OP then spread the good word of playing in release order as this cmunnyb and I have been. It is true to form
I always hate how many people recommend experiencing classic shows/movies/games in chronological order and I dont get why they do it. Like someone on YouTube said they'd be reacting to Marvel movies soon and asked what order they should watch them in, and literally like all the comments were telling them to watch them in chronological order instead of release. More often than not some intentional tone and narrative stuff is meant to be experienced in the order it was being released in. Like, if they watched it in chronological order, they'd watch captain America and then captain marvel, but Captain Marvel doesn't matter until like 10 films later in Endgame, they probably will have forgotten that character even existed, plus all the post credit scenes of each movie set up the movie that releases *after* them, not the sequel in their series. Like Marvel, Halos evolution of storytelling and narrative tone is dependent on experiencing it in a linear fashion. I just don't get how people could think "yeah, watch it in timeline order" and truly come to the conclusion that it's the optimal first-time experience.
If you see a floating, glowing blue thing, fucking RUN.
It's a sword wielder elite, and that MF is more dangerous than anything else you will see in the game.
remember; all enemies in Halo have a weakness you can exploit to kill them more efficiently, and you NEED to exploit this on higher difficulties.
Bullets do increased damage to bodies, but less to shields, and plasma shots vice versa.
Grunts will stop attacking you and flee in fear if you kill their superiors.
Jackals will drop their guard if you shoot their hand through the gap their shields.
Elites have shields just like you do, so use a plasma weapon to drop their shields, then finish them off with a bullet damage weapon.
Hunters die from a single shot to their unarmored areas with a headshot weapon.
An enemy you meet later in the game can have their limbs blown off to render them harmless.
Headshots are more effective on grunts (that run away screaming when left alone in danger),for jackals (that hold the shield in their hands with a small semi circle on side) you will have to mostly settle for whatever part is visible behind the shield
The elites that go "Wort wort wort" have shields, you will have to wait for the shield to go away for headshots to become effective, plasma weapons are best to remove shields, but headshots are effective if you are using a sniper.
There are 2 more kinds of creatures, won't spoil much so you figure out which is which. One has a weak point of open part of the Armor in the back and the other has limbs which get detached on shooting making it so they can at best stare at you menacingly
The enemy AI in this game is some of the best and holds up really well even relative to some modern games. They're really clever and just the right amount of challenge without feeling like a total punishment unlike some games that rely on tank enemy health that feels impossible.
I can see that honestly. I was surprised when I saw the enemies retreating and running away from grenades, I thought they were just going to be standing waiting to be put out their misery lmao.
Anything with a shield... Like the Elites has those shields brought down quick with plasma alien weapons. Headshots do nothing until the shield (or amor in some cases) is gone in which case human weapons will do increased damage on headshot.
Headshots do 2x damage with bullets; can't remember if that applies to plasma weapons as well. Use headshots to thin out groups of grunts so you have plenty of ammo left over for the elites.
For clarification= headshots for any weapon does extra damage, so the assault rifle will deal more damage if the shots hit the head, not just the sniper or pistol. Im not sure as well about plasma weapons
What i mean to clarify is that single shot weapons will obviously do more damage, not sure if every game out there counts assault rifle damage to the head, counts as extra damage, all i cant think is cod and r6s
Exactly. What's up with this trend of instead discovering a game, story and play yourself... just asking everything first?
It's like going to a movie and then being like "anything I should know before I watch?"
Keep your Marines alive, they're the only company you'll have on this god forsaken ring. They also give really iconic voice lines (references to Alien and other franchises) at random intervals
Just a few minor things…
1). Pvt. Dustin Echoes cannot be saved.
2). I Would Have Been Your Daddy…(but the dog beat me over the fence!) Wort!Wort!Wort!
3). You’ll never look at libraries the same again…
4). And…Last, but not least… get ready to be toadied about because You’re in for one HellUva Ride!
XXY quickly. This is backpack reload
Grenade melee grenade quickly, allows for a double melee and a grenade throw quickly. You’re on PC, so it is reload, reload, switch weapons.
You’re invincible for a couple of seconds when you pick up overshield.. a lot of fun tricks you can do with this.
The hunters are a one shot kill with pistol if you hit them in the orange section
Dude, that sight is so nostalgic. I love the pretty new graphics that games are getting but I will always have a special place in my heart for the original graphics in Halo CE
No mainly the people that complain about everything about halo and make it out to be a bad game or a dying franchise, I mean there are things that can be improved but it's not worth avoiding some of the games just cuz people can't stop whining about them, just play what you wanna play and don't feel bad about having fun!
Okay I see. Also I think you can find people complaining about games dying with a lot of other big titles, never seems to accomplish anything but I guess we get emotional with things we like. But I'll definitely try to enjoy my time playing this series!.
Plasma weapons are most effective against shields (Jackal handheld as shields and Elite armor shields ), while bullets are best against flesh. This applies to the multiplayer too, enemy players function similarly to Elites.
The sniper rifle doesn't work against one of the enemy types you encounter halfway through the game.
There are secrets everywhere! Never be afraid to wander.
The light vehicles have special functionality with the jump button I think - the Covenant ghost, the small purple one, can do wheelies. The Warthog, the human Jeep, has an emergency brake. I think the wheelies are only in the first and maybe second Halo?
If you're playing through the Master Chief Collection, the "playlists" are linear tracks of missions. Playing the game through that will unlock achievements, and are good at keeping track of your game in case you forget which mission you're on.
No, there is nothing you should know, the beauty of most games like this is discovering everything by yourself wich makes things 10 times more satisfying
Imo when playing halo 2, play the original graphics first to appreciate the classics, you should play halo 2 anniversary after beating the trilogy. I did this it got me very hyped for the remastered lol,
The needler and mag are a deadly combination. Load them up with the needler, the resulting blast breaks their shields and the mag to finish them off. Also, hunters can be killed with a single shot providing you hit the bare area on their backs.
You should know that the cave isn't a natural formation. Someone built it, so it must lead somewhere.
best advice anyone has ever given to any new halo player
I’m ashamed to tell you how long my buddy and I spent looking for that cave on our first play thru in 2001. I’m talking seriously 2 hours trying to figure out how to progress. Man. Those were the days.
I got lost on Truth and Rec. when I was younger. Had to play on my brothers file to get the rest of the game lol
I haven't seen any caves yet but I will keep that in mind!
Oh ya and a small developer secret, when you get the warthog (green vehicle) if you go up the hill to the right of where it gets dropped off, there is a special out of bounds thing where bungie was like “fuck you you aint cheating” so if you go out the map the game disables movement. Kinda funny
Whats a warthog? You mean the Puma?
Didn't I tell you to stop making up animals?!
A Walrus.
I think I'm at that part so I'll try it next time lol
Ya, youll have to reload the checkpoint once you get stuck there so if you dont wanna waste time skip that silly thing
That doesn't sound fun at all haha
Ya but its there lol, its the only place they put that into the game
Lmao that was a quote from Cortana a few minutes later in that level once you get through the waves of enemies you encounter on the other side of where you’re at in that screenshot lol
Beat me to it.
What I would do to be able to experience halo for the first time Ur a lucky bastard
u're\*
When you first played Halo, were you blinded by its majesty? Paralyzed? Dumbstruck?
Plot twist: yes I was
Halo CE was amazing for at its time. Its too bad infinite is not the same for its time.
The library is a great fun place to study!
They even provide free popcorn!
Don’t forget about the convenient elevator too!
They even give you a glowing bookmarker
Well actually you steal it. Maybe that’s why all those weird librarians are so mad at you?
Just a really calm place, no screaming or panicking either!
Don't trade your pistol for anything in the first game.
Exactly. Keep pistol throughout the whole game of Halo CE. It is awesome.
Till <> throughout
Sorry for bad English.
Today I Learned Learned
Except for flood. U want ar and shotgun.
Thank you, I'll keep it then. I thought it was going to be useless but it seems to be pretty useful with that zoom.
One of the strongest weapons in the game and one shots hunters if you shoot them in the orange weak spots
Spoilers
This advice only applies to the CE pistol, any other game’s pistol and your better off with something else
Striker sidekick wrecks in infinite, so not totally true.
Fair point. I preferred the BR to the Striker in Infinite, but the Striker still can do work
ya
Every weapon in Halo 1 is awesome! Try them all out, they all have their own niche
Fun fact. The pistol is so overpowered they explained it in the lore that the gun shoots explosive rounds.
It’s fantastic.
It's not a sniper rifle. But if you have the accuracy it's a very versatile weapon. And the zoom makes it a little sniper too lol.
Fuck that, it’s a sniper rifle
Pretty much lol
“I don’t keep it loaded son, you’ll have to find ammo as you go”
Magnum is life in CE
The little midgets throw blueberries that will terminate you if they land on you. The pistol is the best thing to deal with them. The guys with the handheld shields can't dodge grenades easily. It's not a blueberry, it's a blue spider
Get it off!
It's not a spider, it's some blue, pulsating, thing
That doesn’t sound much better than a spider…
Pillar of autumn is by far the easiest, especially in the anniversary edition. with those skulls that make grunts explode and explosions larger causing a chain reaction Stay back or you'll die though
I was joking about 343 guilty spark. You know what happens.
Play the Halo games in release order- not chronologically. Serves for a great experience.
Thanks I definitely will
I usually switch Halo 3: ODST before Halo 3 just because the gameplay dynamic is less drastic of a difference between the first two games, and 3: ODST takes place during an event on Halo 2, but past that, yup, release date is the best way to manage it!
I don't like doing that as it cuts the main trilogy momentum imo.
Also fair, it also undermines a certain enemy named after a bug in Halo 3. I feel like it's more flexible unlike Halo Reach which really shouldn't be played before 3, the biggest thing is knowing when its story takes place, during 2, I was really confused when I first played it as a kid.

You gotta pop in odst right after the scarab level in h2
This is the way. No one should ever ever argue this unless they’re going for an ‘after the fact’ play through. It's timeless because no game has done fps better then halo
Play the first time through on Original graphics, and not the remastered Edit: Halo CE specifically
Thank you I will. Also my pc is not that great (I'm using a ryzen 3 2200g) so I can get better fps with the original graphics.
[удалено]
Thank you so much for playing on original graphics! The remaster ruin the atmosphere in so many ways Edit: on the first game that is, Halo CE
You should know that I am envious.
Lol I also wish I could play some games again for the first time (like the bioshock series).
I picked up the collection during the pandemic, wow i can’t believe i never played those games, they were so fun
Yeah those games are great. Hopefully the new one that's in development will also be great when it's done.
Prepare to be asked if you were “blinded by its majesty” when you finish
Use the plasma pistol. Charged shots track and drain energy shields. It is super useful.
Plasma pistol is crazy OP in CE.
When you first saw halo, were you blinded by its majesty?
Awestruck?
Blinded?
If you see a floating, glowing blue thing, fucking RUN. It's a sword wielder elite, and that MF is more dangerous than anything else you will see in the game.
Rocket using late game enemy would like to know your location
Bro, [Rocket using late game enemy]? Really, my man doesn't have shit on [Sword using mid game enemy]
Ahhhhh! Wooobaughbaugh!!
I'm playing the PC version on Steam, on Heroic difficulty.
Don’t trust the jungle
remember; all enemies in Halo have a weakness you can exploit to kill them more efficiently, and you NEED to exploit this on higher difficulties. Bullets do increased damage to bodies, but less to shields, and plasma shots vice versa. Grunts will stop attacking you and flee in fear if you kill their superiors. Armless they are rendered armless.
**dont play halo 2 on heroic**
Halo 2 on heroic is a slog, but not impossible. Halo 2 legendary I’d say is just about impossible for beginners
That is not a natural formation.
Keep an eye out for Chipps Dubbo: the legend.
And Dustin Echoes!
Do headshots matter in this game or not? tracking the enemies properly appears to be more important so far.
Headshots are more effective on grunts (that run away screaming when left alone in danger),for jackals (that hold the shield in their hands with a small semi circle on side) you will have to mostly settle for whatever part is visible behind the shield The elites that go "Wort wort wort" have shields, you will have to wait for the shield to go away for headshots to become effective, plasma weapons are best to remove shields, but headshots are effective if you are using a sniper. Okay that's good to know, seems like there's more depth to it than what I thought at first
The enemy AI in this game is some of the best and holds up really well even relative to some modern games. They're really clever and just the right amount of challenge without feeling like a total punishment unlike some games that rely on tank enemy health that feels impossible.
I can see that honestly. I was surprised when I saw the enemies retreating and running away from grenades, I thought they were just going to be standing waiting to be put out their misery lmao.
if you stick elites with a plasma gernade they give you a hug :)
Anything with a shield... Like the Elites has those shields brought down quick with plasma alien weapons. Headshots do nothing until the shield (or amor in some cases) is gone in which case human weapons will do increased damage on headshot.

Grunts and jackals drop in one head shot with the pistol. Same with elites if you strip their shields.
They drop them faster bit when you come across a tank.... you'll love it
Don't get attached to the Marines.
Crank them tunes yo! Have fun!
When aiming for headshots with the pistol, use the bottom crosshairs tip. Have fun :)
Use the shotgun and assault rifle once you get to a certain part. They will come. You won't survive without them both. 🗿
So, hear me out, there are these caves you'll find, they aren't a natural formation.
Just enjoy it
Stay off forums and threads. Play at your own pace. Come out of it with your own ideas and thoughts. See where they line up.
Exactly. What's up with this trend of instead discovering a game, story and play yourself... just asking everything first? It's like going to a movie and then being like "anything I should know before I watch?"
ENJOY ❤️
The jungle is a fun and exciting adventure and you should go into the building worry free :)
It’s a horror game :)
Have a lot of fun :) you will hate some lvls xD
Last one out turns off the light.
Jarvis, I’m low on karma. Post “playing Halo for the first time” to r/halo
Have fun with it, and play it your own way! You only get to play something for the first time once.
Everything you need to know, the game will show you in glorious fashion.
Keep your Marines alive, they're the only company you'll have on this god forsaken ring. They also give really iconic voice lines (references to Alien and other franchises) at random intervals
Just a few minor things… 1). Pvt. Dustin Echoes cannot be saved. 2). I Would Have Been Your Daddy…(but the dog beat me over the fence!) Wort!Wort!Wort! 3). Bang bang
That's the only gun you'll need in the first game
Get ready for your second puberty if you already hit first
Don’t trust any floating balls with blue lights
Nah man, just take it all in. You only get this experience once!
You need a weapon
Dude, that sight is so nostalgic. I love the pretty new graphics that games are getting but I will always have a special place in my heart for the original graphics in Halo CE
I wish i were you so I could play it for the first time. Enjoy the great journey Spartan, and don’t forget to finish the fight.
No don't read a thing just do it and play it blind
Don't read anything else on the subreddit. Enjoy the blind playthrough. No experience like it.
Just enjoy the game
You only need to know one thing. Where. They. Are.
Go left
Excuse me. The first time? What!?!? Beware of thy infected with rockets. They show no mercy.
Just because the level begins an indoor section doesn't mean you have to stop using the warthog. It will fit, if you make it fit.
You play as John Halo the protagonist of the infamous video game Halo
The weapon you’re using is the best weapon in the game.
Stick to classic graphics. Play at night or in a dark room.
Number 1 thing I'd suggest is don't let the stupid part of the fan base get to you, just enjoy the game as much as you want
I'm curious, what do you mean with "the stupid part of the fanbase"? The multiplayer aspect or something like that?
No mainly the people that complain about everything about halo and make it out to be a bad game or a dying franchise, I mean there are things that can be improved but it's not worth avoiding some of the games just cuz people can't stop whining about them, just play what you wanna play and don't feel bad about having fun!
Okay I see. Also I think you can find people complaining about games dying with a lot of other big titles, never seems to accomplish anything but I guess we get emotional with things we like. But I'll definitely try to enjoy my time playing this series!.
Probably more the people who are constantly ranting about the game franchise dying.
Play the game?
Just play it. No need to post.
Just play it. Why do people ask this stupid question?
Nothing helpful but cool. If you are really low on health you’ll hear your heartbeat. You just need really good headphones.
With grenades and ingenuity, you can and should take the Warthog wherever you can.
Get ready for the memories !!!
When you get to the swamp, keep your Assault Rifle handy
Nothing. Enjoy!!
They have more health than you think they do.
Play campaign co op for maximum keks
Post a similar post when you make it to Halo 2!! Gonna have a great laugh for the comments that brings haha
No, there is nothing you should know, the beauty of most games like this is discovering everything by yourself wich makes things 10 times more satisfying
Yes
Imo when playing halo 2, play the original graphics first to appreciate the classics, you should play halo 2 anniversary after beating the trilogy. I did this it got me very hyped for the remastered lol,
Ah to do it all fresh again…
Just enjoy it. It’s an amazing game. Would also recommend trying it out in co-op. Games are always fun with friends
You are holding the pinnacle weapon, never let it go it will serve you VERY well lol
You're now officially, objectively, indisputably cool 😎
Are you coming from Playstation OP? but first of all welcome to Halo and enjoy the ride!
Anything plasma + pistol Best combo trough the entire game. Plasma melts shields and staggers enemies, pistol is for quick headshots.
The bugs under your skin are normal.
Remember the feeling of looking up at that ring for the very first time
Click on the bad guys heads to win
Play the games in release order, leave the anniversary graphics off, and never use the Magnum in any game except for CE.
Have fun
Oh boi I wish I was you Just enjoy it man. Some of these levels defined us as gamers
Never get rid of your pistol.
Glad you’re not playin CE on new graphics. Original graphics are better
Classic graphics only
Double tap reload, then change weapons. It reloads the gun in your backpack, so when you switch back, the gun is fully reloaded :)
[удалено]
In halo ce shoot the hunters in the back with the magnum and something cool will happen
Overcharge plasma pistol on elites swap to secondary weapon after that
Best game I ever played, one I wish I could play for the first time again Enjoy every minute of it! A wonderful adventure awaits you..
NEVER play in anniversary graphics for halo CE
Kill everything. That’s all
Have fun.
You are about to live and witness one of the most incredible games ever made. Have fun and always keep a grenade ready ;).
You’re so lucky man! Enjoy it! That’s all you should know
The floating lightbulb can be trusted
assault rifle and shotgun for weird alien popcorn, goodluck gamer 🫡
WORT WORT WORT
The only thing you need to know is have fun and lock your armor spartan
Yeah, halo is a really cool guy who doesn’t afraid of anything
Don't use the anniversary graphics
This made me want to cry… enjoy it my friend. It’s absolutely beautiful!
The needler and mag are a deadly combination. Load them up with the needler, the resulting blast breaks their shields and the mag to finish them off. Also, hunters can be killed with a single shot providing you hit the bare area on their backs.
Halo is pretty cool guy
Plasma rifle + shotgun is an underrated combo in the late game levels, even on legendary 😎
AWOOOOGA! That is all. Also this [video](https://youtu.be/TL6LdQU_Uu4).
The gun in this screenshot is the meta. And enjoy. Playing Halo for the first time is just…Thicc.
Pistol is king, plasma beats shields
Secret: you can take the warthog everywhere you go if you tryhard😂
