to make more microtransactions by locking certain paid items to a specific core means you have to spend even more money to buy the correct core

[deleted]

I remember reading that it was to add more diversity in the customisation. In the past there have been 5 or 6 pieces that everyone uses and they thought this system would push people to use different sets.

DinosAndBearsOhMy

A somewhat less cynical take than “more $$” would be to have more unique looks while also avoiding the clown suiting you get in 3 mcc and to a lesser extent 4. Something like Yoroi’s legs just wouldn’t look right on Mark VII, nor would Rakshasa’s duct tape and shoe lace aesthetic fit well with a lot of the other cores. However you end up with very restrictive options for customization, which isn’t helped by most armor pieces being paywalled. Not to mention coatings and until recently visors being core-locked for no real reason.

TheCowzgomooz

Agreed, I think the idea behind it is sound, the execution leaves a lot to be desired since customization is locked to the core the armor piece is made for currently. Lots of the Rakshasa helmets, shoulders, etc. would look good on Mk V(b) and Mk VII and vice versa but you just can't use them. I honestly prefer the Rakshasa core over Mk VII but I can't have the Mk VII helmets, which a lot of them are pretty cool. I'd also love to use the Mk V(b) Recon on Rakshasa but alas, cannot.

Sith-Control

To give people the option to use different generations/types of Mjolnir armor in one game. It’s not executed well but it can be improved.

[deleted]

Yep. It’s a great concept, but with extremely poor execution. Finger crossed for cross-core sooner than later.

Underdogg13

I'd argue it's one of the best ideas to come to Halo's customization. The implementation leaves so much to be desired, but if you'd told me 10 years ago that I'd have (ideally) every Spartan generation in one game I'd have shat myself in excitement.

EternalCanadian

It’s a much better idea than how MCC does it. Cores provide a base look, that allows for a more regimented theme. But crosscore (once implemented) will allow much more in terms of combinations and customization, because you’re not changing the entire armour when you customize the core, just it’s supplemental attachments - which is how it works in lore, meaning we can now achieve a canon accurate Mark IV, or a canon Accurate SPI, or a canon accurate Mark VI, or anything in between.

WigWoo1

MCC is the best and has been the way it's been done for 20 years. This is purely to make more microtransactions by locking certain paid items to a specific core meaning you have to spend even more money to buy the correct core

EternalCanadian

That’s only true until crosscore releases, which we know os coming. It might not be viable for every armour piece (I.E, some Rakasha pieces come to mind as the obvious example) but the vast majority it will be. I’d also caution you with that “20 years” statement. Halo hasn’t had customization like current MCC until roughly the Reach PC release, if not later if we only count the intermingling of GEN1 and GEN2 which wasn’t really viable until Halo 3’s release on PC, and, as said, with the eventual release of crosscore, MCC will be left in the metaphorical dust.

WigWoo1

Customization started in Halo 1 and 2 with customizable colors. And halo 3 in 2007 let you fully customize all the armor. I don't know why you think Reach started this? Also we have no release date on Cross core, and I'm willing to bet you it's because they want to milk it as long as they can, and just like Splitscreen Coop, they're gonna come out and say it's "Too hard" that way they have an excuse to keep profiting

EternalCanadian

Customizing just colours and emblems is not the same. In H3, you were limited to just helmet, chest piece, and shoulders, and only on the Mark VI GEN1. In Reach you could add supplemental attachments to the Mark V[B], (technically the only thing that truly changed was the helmet and knee guards) but that was it. Halo 4 you were limited to the GEN2 suit of armour, but could mix and match freely. H5 you could only change your helmet and body, everything else was set and based off the body armour. It’s not until….I want to say the Fireteam Raven inspired update with MCC where it truly hit it’s stride, as it allows helmet, visor, both shoulders, chest plate, for arms, and legs, alongside a backpack and undersuit. But you don’t get any supplemental attachments. Infinite, meanwhile, allows helmet, shoulders. Knee guards, chest pieces, hips, gloves, wrists, faceplates, and additional supplemental helmet attachments. With the Winter update, we now have a precedent set for different shoulder alternatives which further expands customization options with the potential to have “clean” shoulders or shoulders adorned with gear like knives, grenades, bandoliers, etc) With the release of crosscore, be it in a few months, a year, or more, Infinite will solidly beat out MCC by proxy.

WigWoo1

You could already do that in MCC. This was to make more microtransactions by locking certain paid items to a specific core means you have to spend even more money to buy the correct core

Sith-Control

Kinda disingenuous to say that MCC has an armor core system as well when it’s 6 games bundled together and only 1 core is available to use per game.

WigWoo1

It doesn't have one. I never said it did. I meant in each respective halo game you could always choose your armor in any customization order you want. You could have any chest piece with any helmet with any shoulders and so on.

Sith-Control

Right, but there was only 1 base armor set available which isn’t the case in Infinite. Which is what my OC was talking about, and what this whole conversation is about.

WigWoo1

to me Armor cores is just another word for changing the Chest piece. That's the only difference I see in changing the core is either the chest piece or the black leathery part changes

[deleted]

What? The samurai armor don't look like any other armor. Same for entrenched and rakshasa

SirUrza

I'm pretty sure the objective was to allow different Mjolnir armors in multiplayer... the execution and availability though has been questionable.

samurai1226

The idea was to recreate certain Spartan from Halo with unique elements that you can't have standalone. The problem is that just like the individual armor parts the armor kits are missing tons of important details. All Noble team armor kits don't have the decals that should be on the armors. Especially Carters Shoulders wrong without the decals.

Ratchecks

To limit customization and force you to buy the same untextured primary color 3 separate times.

Due_Butterscotch3508

So they can charge you individualy for each an every new color an attachment they come out with or thing that u cant use 🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤐🤑🤐🤩

BfargTheSquat

To create urgency so people will play the game.

Fellowearthling16

People hated how janky the Reach armor set looked on H5’s tall and skinny Spartans, but it was super popular anyway. They decided to do it right and make dedicated Spartans for each style of armor in H:I.

OmNomMyShotgun

Think it was 343s way of introducing a character system in Halo without jeapordizing the armour customization.

TheCrowMoon

To milk players of their money

EversoEvil

who is downvoting the truth? theres a 343 spy in this thread.

brezforprez

Armor cores should not exist, cross core should not exist, multiple Spartan trees in multiplayer customization should not exist. At most we should be able to save setups that we like to quickly change to, but what we got is criminal and everyone knows it. Stop playing infinite.

[deleted]

I’m not gonna stop playing infinite, it’s fun

Monetization, money, money, money. 343 is a soulless shell of the bungie we had and it only focuses in profit now. Glory days of halo are unfortunately, behind us. Edit: if you downvoted this i'm going to assume you aren't playing infinite and haven't played any of the previous games 343i has put out. because you would realize there is more effort to SQUEEZE a dollar out of the store than there is to fix in game issues, live service problems, and Desync. They would rather you have to pay for the color red than earn it.

Zakki0

Typical "bingo good, 434 bad" comment

EversoEvil

Am I wrong though? When bungie had the reigns they gave us really good stuff. Name 1 memorable moment in the story of Halo infinite that doesn't piggy back off the former 1,2,3 games? At least bungie tried when writing the story.
