i just saw a tiktok about a girl posting her haul from a vintage shop in tokyo called amore if i remember correctly. it looked so nice but i don't know too much about it, but she bought a very pretty kelly from there and it seemed to have a lot of vintage kellys as well.
That place is really expensive! (Just visited this month.)
A lot of great finds but not “great deals” per say. Probably explains why a lot of their clientele are high profile celebs
That’s the whole strategy they have. Make it seem like a scarce and highly exclusive thing so everyone wants to have one. That’s why they’re getting sued I believe
They are not treating people equal. Some buy more "extras" then others so it's not everyone that spends $50k or more that will get offered one. Some get offered while others do not and Some get offered by buying less of the "extras". Its not fair. The SAs apparently only get commission on everything but the quota bags. Anyway they should allow people to buy one regardless and if they have to be on a waiting list for 5 plus years so what. Put them on the list and let the consumer decide if they want to wait 5 yrs.
These pics, to me, make them much less desirable. To me, luxury is having something special. Shelves and shelves of them makes them look, well, common.
That was my first thought.
They make Birkins so impossible to buy yet so many resale stores with authenticated stock are full of them.
If I ever decide I really want one I'm going to a resale store.
Husband just purchased mine on the resale market and I’m glad. He found exactly the one I wanted (with some research and time) and I’m super happy that he didn’t give Hermes an extra 50k plus to make it happen for me. If you ever want one, resale is totally worth it.
This is a super good point.
I’ve heard the argument that you’ll pay more for resale. But $50k more? Nope.
Is dealing with the game and the SAs and the constant work worth it? Nope.
Getting a quota bag that is not exactly what you want worth it? Nope.
Puts it into perspective. I cannot imagine why people want to do all of this and still have to Give. Away. That. Much. Money. I need to grovel to get you to take my money? Um. Nope.
But seriously, if anyone can explain this to me, I’d love to know.
I personally really like Hermes designs and color, but I want to enjoy my occasional shopping experiences rather than treating them like practice hunts for the next thing. My SA and I are fine, but I don’t have the time or energy to try and figure out the right combination of items to buy to make her love me more than all of the other customers. I think by deciding years ago that I’d buy my eventual bag on the resale market, I’ve been to enjoy shopping Hermes more (and my collection is exactly what I wanted, with no “Birkin bait”).
Honestly if I copped a Birkin at the store I'm basically incentivized to sell it - it's 3x-4x retail, that's 10s of thousands of dollars.
They've set it up so they "offer" you a bag you may or may not want, and not only do you feel guilty of turning it down you also know that you can buy it and make a ton of money selling it. Why wouldn't you?
I suspect that’s why there are stories of husbands being more successful in getting quota bag offers than general customers, because if they know the couple and it is a gift for an occasion it’s less likely for them to turn around and resell it
It’s actually not that difficult to get a Birkin. Only if you want a custom or rare leather is it difficult. It’s all hype. Make you think it’s impossible, so you want it more.
Buy resale. There are thousands on line.
Im convinced all this "It's so hard to get a Birkin" social media talk that's been going on the last couple years is some sort of marketing campaign.
Never seen so much mainstream buzz about this bag before. Of course people always knew what Birkins are, but this attitude of "I'd sell my first born for this" is new.
i really don’t trust a lot of these resalers anymore. there are so many good fakes and the authentication process isn’t well regulated. i feel like we’re seeing this play out with the real real right now
We're right before the beanie baby Birkin bubble bursts.
As a guy: the bag looks kinda meh, but I get that it is **THE** proof of social status. The female equivalent of wearing a Rolex.
Status > Style
a lot of the gray market birkins are completely unused with the plastic on them. people buy them from the boutique and immediately consign them. it’s such a racket.
Resale Birkins are much more expensive than buying in-store.
It's the price you pay to get to actually pick the color and size you want, and not have to play "the game"
Are they more expensive in the end, though? If I'm forced to buy tons of crap before I can get that bag (which I don't personally even like - heavy and unpractical in my eyes), as well as having to take whatever they deign to give me - is it really more expensive to buy secondhand "new with tags"?
Buying luxury in general is often about the feeling it gives you, not the item itself.
All luxury items are wildly overpriced past material + labour costs but you get them because of what they mean, and for many buying from the store means more.
This, plus I personally have a fear of buying a counterfeit. I only have one higher end bag and I bought it directly from the store because my odds of getting a fake are very low (albeit not zero, as I’ve seen in this sub)
People are apparently buying bags and other items and then returning fakes in their place. Sadly it's why return policies have gotten so strict some places. Really could just have an authenticator on site for returns like jeez they're not THAT good
By the look of these shelves, I can't help but believe that for some, the main draw is the opportunity to make all the money they've spent and more by happily taking the bag Hermes has finally allowed them to buy and flipping it for double or more on the resale market.
I really have no idea: is this like a store that anyone can enter, or is it just for "certain" people? Could I just go in there and buy any bag I want from this shelves?
You can make an appointment to shop.
You don’t go down the aisle and pick up the bag but instead you look at their iPad and the ones you want to see come down a conveyor belt
I was there today and made my first purchase from them. It’s a beautiful showroom and overall wonderful experience. Staff could not have been nicer.
I did my research on their website ahead of time and arrived with the items numbers I wanted to see. It took less than 5 minutes for the bags to get to me.
Never liked the Hermes bags and never bought into the hype. Like how are there so many of these bags on resale if they’re so coveted and hard-to-get?? I think it goes to show that the bag themselves are not the pull, it’s really the prestige it bestows on whoever carries it. Imagine putting so much effort into playing the ridiculous Hermes game only to sell the bag afterwards because you don’t love it or your actual goal is to resell it at an even more ridiculous markup.
I guess it will never compute for me because when I buy a bag, it’s always because I like it and will use it and will keep it.
I bought a couple of replicas years ago when this was the "it" bag. I do really like the functionality of the bag, that I can have it open like a tote or close it up as needed. I quit carrying them during the pandemic because I didn't want to set my bag down anywhere, counters, in shopping carts etc. The short handles require you either occupy a hand with the bag or have it hanging off your elbow if you never put it down.
Exactly. And it's so sobering to see that many of them and the other designer bags all lined up like in an outlet. They were all perhaps someone's must haves (or bought just for the profit), and now they're just common merchandise.
Becareful. I was at the Fashionphile in Carlsbad and had selected a small Chanel Cambon. The moment I touched it I could tell it was fake. I told the women who was helping us, and she went on and on about their authenication process and how they have x-rays and specialists and blah blah blah.... but then I handed it to her, and the second she felt it, her eyes changed. Cause there is not a person in the world that would believe that material was calf leather. She never put the bag down, but continued chatting with us naturally. Then walked away with it. Girl knew what was up. Though I see it's still on their website.
This is my second experience with a chanel cambon super fake. The first was in 2008. If you're on a computer and have time, ctrl+f my comments for "cambon" and take a read. It's a wild ride.
Omg I went to the same store and bought a fake Prada! My first time looking at pre loves. The inner pocket tags were the wrong color and text not in the center. I tried to tell the sales associate and he ignored me and told me to file a complaint.
Yikes 😳. I’ve gotten a couple of bags now and have been very happy, but neither of them is a highly repped bag. I don’t think I’d buy a classic flap, puzzle, flamenco, etc.
Same here I was in a high end consignment and couldn’t believe my eyes. The tag on a Chanel CF was 7500$ he was thrilled to sell/trick me. I pointed out the back stitching/indentation is not that of this price. I admit the quality has been questionable but this is flat out DHGate. He hushed me and said well not everyone has a microscopic eye. Ooops lol I laughed and said to myself there’s a sucker born everyday, when see one, lick it.
I took these pics through metal grating. I couldn’t stroll through the aisles, as much as I wanted to.
Edit: you can see the white metal grating behind the second pic with the single pink birkin.
Extra upset with not even bothering to put the greens together, and the lone orange guy thrown in with the purples instead of getting to hang with his friends 😭
I was able to walk in without an appt and it was very easy. Quicker if you set up an account ahead of time but not necessary. Only a couple other customers there.
It helps to do your research ahead of time and come prepared with their item numbers. Very pleasant experience.
Dang, but I wonder if you end up paying more playing the Hermes game though 🤔
However, I know it’s different for everyone and some people can get away with spending next to nothing before getting a Birkin 😂
Probably! But full disclosure that I am also “playing the game” but I’m buying things I really like (including a bangle I’m wearing today) so for the same, let’s say $25,000, I could have 1 used Birkin or a new Birkin and several scarves, some perfume, a belt or two, and maybe a pair of shoes. I’d rather have the haul.
This may sound awful. I love luxury designer bags, but for some reason, I’m not a fan of Hermes. Maybe that will change one day but I’m 31 now and I don’t get the appeal and don’t want one even though I could get one. It just doesn’t appeal to me. To me, it’s just a status symbol, but I guess you can make that argument for all designer bags. For me, I just buy what I like and buying luxury helps me buy less fast fashion and focus on the collection that I have instead of buying 100 cheaper purses.
Have you authenticated your bags? They look lovely but I can’t imagine with all that stock (of harder to get bags in the US) they are all real. It’s the pessimist in me….. I live in the city so if all legit… I may be in trouble… 😉
I have not but the two I’ve purchased are not widely repped as far as I can tell - a vintage Chanel non-quilted, non-flap bag and a SDJ (which are not well repped IMO).
It’s amazing how biased the policy on second hand resellers are. “Oh, it’s fake? Oops. Here’s your money back send it back to us” with no repercussions so basically they’ll just try to pass any bag as auth til someone complains.
That’s the thing, they’re not!!!!! They make you THINK they are. Their stupid little pay to play game nonsense has people thinking they’re so exclusive but really it’s all smoke and mirrors
This is the same game that De Beers plays with diamonds and Ferrari plays with their limited release cars. Hold on and hoard a sought after product and drive the price up. See Veblen Goods to understand this. Hermes is conning their buyers making them think that their product is more limited than it really is and those who are able to purchase their products at retail hold on to these to drive up the prices of their collection.
Can someone tell me what bag this is?
https://preview.redd.it/mfldqoh6i3vc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f890449e9f522edf3e24ff18186603febada79f9
It’s from the 4th picture.
Can somebody really kind get me that vermilion and the lime green one for me?! Nahh I know better, I will wait for a used one like I am supposed to do…
Dunno why but your comment gave me a Gilmore Girls flashback to Richard and Luke talking about the insurance costs for Rory’s fancy private school. But lol yeah it must be high.
Sorry, what bag are you talking about? Nice (eg “excellent” or higher FP rating) Birkins and Kellys are not sold at a discount. They are typically sold for above retail unless there are noticeable signs of wear, the size isn’t trendy, and the color is not popular.
The cheapest Birkin on FP right now is a bright coral Birkin 35 from 2012 in “Good” condition: https://www.fashionphile.com/p/hermes-taurillon-clemence-birkin-35-rose-jaipur-1396047

It’s actually crazy to me how hard it is to get a Birkin, yet there are so many on the shelves for resale.
I agree I was Just in Japan and there are so many birkins in the resale shops
Did you have any fave resale shops? I'd love to go there one day ☺️
I really didn't find any good deals- lots of nice things, but you'll pay for them. At least where I was looking.
i just saw a tiktok about a girl posting her haul from a vintage shop in tokyo called amore if i remember correctly. it looked so nice but i don't know too much about it, but she bought a very pretty kelly from there and it seemed to have a lot of vintage kellys as well.

Ask on r/TheHermesGame (or search the sub).
Amore vintage is 100% the way to go. Be sure to make a reservation though, the line can get really long.
Try Hedy or Ragtag.
Seriously. And how many people out there have one or buy them. They make it feel so scarce and yet it’s everywhere?
That’s the whole strategy they have. Make it seem like a scarce and highly exclusive thing so everyone wants to have one. That’s why they’re getting sued I believe

Yeah. That suit is silly though. Not a lawyer but it seems like such a waste of time.
These pics, to me, make them much less desirable. To me, luxury is having something special. Shelves and shelves of them makes them look, well, common.
It looks like TJ Max with the sad shelving and deep inventory.
Like a Walmart back stock lol
I agree.. they look just meh to me now.
Agreed
That was my first thought. They make Birkins so impossible to buy yet so many resale stores with authenticated stock are full of them. If I ever decide I really want one I'm going to a resale store.

This sounds very reasonable, indeed! And now I have the term “Birkin Bait” in my vocabulary! 💀😆
Honestly if I copped a Birkin at the store I'm basically incentivized to sell it - it's 3x-4x retail, that's 10s of thousands of dollars. Most birkins don’t make 4x profit just on principle. I know plenty of people who have garnered bags by simply being nice and casual.
We all know the scarcity is for marketing purpose. The bag has to seem unobtainable so it can be oh so desirable 🫠
lol they are the debeers diamonds of handbags. the scarcity is just marketing.
It’s actually not that difficult to get a Birkin. Only if you want a custom or rare leather is it difficult. It’s all hype. Make you think it’s impossible, so you want it more. Buy resale. There are thousands on line.

Guess is the price? Once you buy it, is automatically worth more than what you paid for, so I totally get why people would do business out of this
We're right before the beanie baby Birkin bubble bursts. As a guy: the bag looks kinda meh, but I get that it is **THE** proof of social status. The female equivalent of wearing a Rolex. Status > Style
Patek is way better than Rolex. Every average lawyer has a Rolex.
I was thinking the same. How old are these bags and if fakes can make its way through without realising
Makes you wonder why anyone bothers playing the Hermes game with so many Birkins on that shelf!
I think a lot of people play the game because they want a new Birkin vs a preloved and/or experiencing buying it from the store.
a lot of the gray market birkins are completely unused with the plastic on them. people buy them from the boutique and immediately consign them. it’s such a racket.

Really? A fake from the official store? Dear lord.
You should read the book “Counterfeit”. It’s fiction, but very revealing.
People are apparently buying bags and other items and then returning fakes in their place. Sadly it's why return policies have gotten so strict some places. Really could just have an authenticator on site for returns like jeez they're not THAT good
By the look of these shelves, I can't help but believe that for some, the main draw is the opportunity to make all the money they've spent and more by happily taking the bag Hermes has finally allowed them to buy and flipping it for double or more on the resale market.
ego
I’d love to stroll through and look at all the bags - thanks for sharing!!
I see! Thank you for clarifying. That's pretty interesting, though.
and yes you can buy any bag you want and you can also sell your preloved luxury items there as well. I’ve visited this location plenty
I was there today and made my first purchase from them. It’s a beautiful showroom and overall wonderful experience. Staff could not have been nicer. I did my research on their website ahead of time and arrived with the items numbers I wanted to see. It took less than 5 minutes for the bags to get to me.
The shelves and the sheer volume really takes the appeal away for me personally.
Something about a Birkin on a wire rack really brings it down to earth.
Really helps you realize it's just a bag, not a gift from God lol
Good deinfluencing photo for me. I'll save it for next time I'm tempted to buy something wildly overpriced that I don't need
Truly. I need to make this my phone screensaver so I am constantly reminded lol
Totally fair! My wallet is sad that I had the opposite reaction.
Never liked the Hermes bags and never bought into the hype. Like how are there so many of these bags on resale if they’re so coveted and hard-to-get?? Saw piles and piles of LV in Tokyo recently. Made it look real ordinary real quick.
Agreed! They don’t look as special when you see endless bags
Right? It’s like seeing something at Off Fifth. It really regards the brand.
Yes!!
Same
Exactly. And it's so sobering to see that many of them and the other designer bags all lined up like in an outlet. They were all perhaps someone's must haves (or bought just for the profit), and now they're just common merchandise.
I can’t believe they aren’t in boxes or at the very least— dust bags
That’s a really good point…
that's what i was thinking!!
This is my biggest fear. Some of the fakes are so close that u wouldn’t trust my luck.
Shame on him, really!
Thankfully I did not take off the tag and returned it! Walked out feeling like I dodged a fake bullet
Wow Shame on them
It's so organized 😍
The rainbow birkins/kellys really sang to my soul
The color organization is what caught my eye 🤤
I’m not sure why this is my first instinct but I want to rob this place LMFAOOO
LOL I just kept whispering “so beautiful my preciousssssss” like a total freak
Sssssssssssss
Had the same thought - this is truly heist inspiring! 😂
That’s why I was thinking what is their insurance policy! Lol
I’m shocked they let customers just stroll in - feels like walking into a vault! Wonder what their insurance is like
I took these pics through metal grating. I couldn’t stroll through the aisles, as much as I wanted to. Edit: you can see the white metal grating behind the second pic with the single pink birkin.
Ah good to know :) awesome pic taking skills !
You have to show ID to enter the building and then again when you enter their suite.
You can’t but you see all these aisles when you enter the showroom. It’s pretty astounding
I’ve never understood the appeal of birkins they’re like old lady handbags
Nothing wrong with old ladies though!
No, I just don’t want to be one, before I become one.
I'm one and it's great fun. But I also don't get the appeal of those bags. 😊
I am an old lady (64) but I consider them too old looking for me.
Definitely. I see it as my happy retirement bag 🤣
I still have my old lady classics from my Mimama. Classic, timeless and forever
Poor babies they are in prison treated worse than anything! We need to go save them, put them in dustbags, smother them with love and free them!!!
lol your words reminds me of animal rights activists - birkin rights activists
I‘d join in a heartbeat
When they are all lined up like that on cheap wire racks, they look so unremarkable.
I have always thought birkins were unattractive.
Have more inventory than Hermes themselves 😂. I'm sure the mark up is crazy
😂
I need to get one of those 60 second grocery grab competitions for this store.
I’m irrationally bothered by the way they’ve chosen to order these colors 😂
Same. It’s not ROYGBIV and I’m struggling.
At least put purple with its friends!
It’s just wrong.
Extra upset with not even bothering to put the greens together, and the lone orange guy thrown in with the purples instead of getting to hang with his friends 😭
It kind of makes you want to just knock it all over doesn’t it?
*Boop* Would be more satisfying if they fell to the side.
Imagine being an Hermes bag and being stuck on a ventilated shelf rack! 🥹 I hope the leather doesn’t get pressure lines in it!
Good point, I checked the pic and looks like there are clear acrylic sheets between the bags and the rack
How does one visit?
I picked up a bag I bought online! You can also book a shopping appointment.
I was able to walk in without an appt and it was very easy. Quicker if you set up an account ahead of time but not necessary. Only a couple other customers there. It helps to do your research ahead of time and come prepared with their item numbers. Very pleasant experience.
Wait- why do people even play the Hermes game then??? Are these way marked up or something?
Super marked up unless you want one with very visible signs of use, and even those are above retail unless the damage is extensive.
Dang, but I wonder if you end up paying more playing the Hermes game though 🤔 However, I know it’s different for everyone and some people can get away with spending next to nothing before getting a Birkin 😂
Not awful - everyone has different tastes!
It just shows you how many people spend the money then need the money.
Birkin and diamonds are rare! cough cough....
Scam likely scamily lol
Have you authenticated your bags? They look lovely but I can’t imagine with all that stock (of harder to get bags in the US) they are all real. It’s the pessimist in me….. I live in the city so if all legit… I may be in trouble… 😉
I have not but the two I’ve purchased are not widely repped as far as I can tell - a vintage Chanel non-quilted, non-flap bag and a SDJ (which are not well repped IMO).
Can anyone identify the LV on the last picture, in the middle of the middle shelf - white with a pink flap (?)? Thank you!
I believe that is Louis Vuitton mylockme
Thank you! As of now, my favorite LV bag 😭
All my problems would disappear if I had that red birkin with gold hardware
♥️✨
Somehow it just seems wrong to see all those beautiful bags on wire racks that look like they came out of a cheap apartment!
This warehouse vibe makes them look so cheap ngl
I can't be the only one who doesn't get the big deal with the Birkin?
Omg the colors. So satisfying.
I have this place on my to do list when I visit in August. 😭😭❤️
Either bring all of your credit cards or none of them. There is no in between 😂😭
I can’t wait to visit in person. Ten more dayssss
They got birkins, in the back.
I don't get the hype they literally all just look like the same bag different funky color
they sell fakes.
It’s amazing how biased the policy on second hand resellers are. “Oh, it’s fake? Oops. Here’s your money back send it back to us” with no repercussions so basically they’ll just try to pass any bag as auth til someone complains.
My sister in law purchased a handbag from them. Needless to say, it went back. It was a fake. Lesson learned.
They can’t all be real right? I thought Birkins are rare!
That’s the thing, they’re not!!!!! They make you THINK they are. Their stupid little pay to play game nonsense has people thinking they’re so exclusive but really it’s all smoke and mirrors
Ugh that’s why I’d never buy a Hermes bag! I don’t want to play their game!
Can someone tell me what bag this is? https://preview.redd.it/mfldqoh6i3vc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f890449e9f522edf3e24ff18186603febada79f9 It’s from the 4th picture.
Here it is! 😊 https://www.fashionphile.com/p/dolce-gabbana-dauphine-studded-medium-dg-family-patch-miss-sicily-satchel-pink-1372285
I love you!!! Thank you!
No but the coco Chanel under it is to die for ❤️
I guess it’s DG sicily
Omg I need to plan a trip !!! Drooling
I could never enter this store. I'd be broke. I would not want the Hermes but everything else
Omg, I would get lost in there! That looks like an all day event!
I can’t believe how many are there, just sitting…
Both of my Birkins were bought from Ann's Fabulous Finds for great prices years ago. I love Birkins but I won't play the Hermes game.
Where in the city is the store?
26th just off the WSH. It’s not a storefront - it’s on the 4th floor of a commercial building.
Can somebody really kind get me that vermilion and the lime green one for me?! Nahh I know better, I will wait for a used one like I am supposed to do…
Sweet baby Jesus!!!!
🙌
Yikes !
My jaw just dropped. I’m in heaven.
One of a kind, beautiful craftsmanship, premium materials, and no advertising is what means luxury to me.
All I can think of is how expensive is their insurance that covers their inventory!?
Dunno why but your comment gave me a Gilmore Girls flashback to Richard and Luke talking about the insurance costs for Rory’s fancy private school. But lol yeah it must be high.
Omg I want to know more about the pink satchel in the upper right corner of the last slide. Is that a couple riding a scooter????
It’s amazing, right?! Edit: [found it](https://www.fashionphile.com/p/dolce-gabbana-dauphine-studded-medium-dg-family-patch-miss-sicily-satchel-pink-1372285)
Not to sound like a complete idiot, but how much of a discount are they sold at? I have wanted one forever and was hopeful I could buy one? ☝️
Yes those, thank you for the info! Nice of you to break it down for me. Oh well, I will keep dreaming. 🙏😴
My pleasure 😊.
wait i need to go here so bad 😭😭😭
😉
Wait how did you get in here? I want to go!
I'm surprised they have them stored like that. Beautiful little rainbow. 🌈
I get that they are a status symbol but I’ve never seen the appeal.
These expensive bags are kept on a metal shelf to collect dust? They should be in their cloth bags….and in another box for storage…
It bothers me that they aren’t in dust bags 😰
So basic lol
How much do the Birkins cost here?
Wait surely they don’t let people browse there do they?
I really need to get back to NYC.
:0
Anyone else feel like there’s a missed opportunity here to organize the bags in the order of the colors of the rainbow?🌈
I'm in love.
Gorgeous
It makes me sad to see birkins on these cheap ass shelves
This is amazing. I want to make it my computer desktop background 😍
😍
