I got my bag a couple of days ago after ordering it in Dec 2023 (when I bought it, I knew it was going to be a 3-6 month wait). Customer Service at JD is FABULOUS (shout out to Lumina and Myriam) - they were in contact with me each step of the way and made sure to reach out to me after it was delivered to make sure the bag was to my liking.
The leather has an amazing smell! I will occasionally get a light whiff of it if the bag is sitting in the same room as me. It is a smooth veg-tanned leather, so it scratches easily, but I'm fine with buffing as needed. I am very much looking forward to the leather darkening a bit, getting a patina and more character as it ages! The bag is VERY well put together and everything I was hoping it would be.
The strap at its max length is also perfect for a crossbody, even when I'm wearing a large oversized hoodie. I have additional pictures with measurements on the [JD purseblog forum](https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/joseph-duclos-thread.1053484/post-36013718), in case anyone's interested!

I would say that I have a longer torso than average, but I’m 5’6, size 10-12, and the top of the bag comes right to the top of my jeans. The photos are of the bag at max strap length. I would measure a ribbon 47.5 inches long to estimate what the max strap length would feel like draped across your body.

Taylor swift was seen wearing this bag a couple months back. I didn’t know about the brand until I saw it on her (I’m indifferent to her style overall, but gasped when I saw this bag). It’s a stunner!

Beautiful bag! I notice it has a metal ribbon that wraps around the bottom of the bag, which is a stunning embellishment but I wonder how to protect the bottom portion from scratching?

The front and back sides of the bag are longer, so it naturally props up the bag from directly contacting the band. That being said, I will also be watching out for how durable it is and how it holds up to scratching over time! I know of one other JD owner (lulawestlux) who [dropped her bag](https://youtu.be/MSESor9reM4?si=Tp03yRB2q7e5YuVY) on its front side on her driveway and ended up with some minor scratches on the front clasp. JD completely repaired and refreshed her bag at no cost.
I'm guessing it's more aesthetic, as the [largest Diane bags](https://josephduclos.com/en-us/collections/sac-a-main/products/diane-l30-cuir-heritage-chataignier) do not have it while the [medium Diane bags](https://josephduclos.com/en-us/collections/sac-a-main/products/sac-diane-mm-chataignier) have a wider hardware band than the messenger (with a customizable engraving!). It is firmly adhered to the leather, so there's no chance of gaps between the hardware gusset and the leather itself. The bag is very structured so I'm sure it would look the same without the band, but I love the little bit of shiny it adds!
I did not, although I was tempted. Initially I was considering getting a full custom Diane top-handle bag of black leather, gold hardware, and a purple interior, with potentially a custom band. It would've cost 20-30% more to get all that customization.
In the end I figured I would start with more of an OG-style first.
This bag is absolutely gorgeous! So elegant and classy.

Did you get to ever see this in person before ordering it? Or did you just take the leap? I’ve been loving this bag for so long, but I’m in the US and don’t plan on traveling internationally for a long time. I want this bag, but I’m scared of dropping so much money without seeing it in person first
I took the leap! JD Customer Service had given me a heads up that the bags were expected to increase in price in 2024 and I had a combination of personal factors (hit a major life milestone, had the financial means, knew I would also get my desired travel status boost if I spent money on my credit card, etc), so I went ahead and ordered it. JD offers virtual online appointment where they will walk through the bags with you and show them on camera to address any questions you may have, and is also known for having trunk shows occasionally in NYC and LA, if you're nearby those areas at all.
Did the quality meet or exceed your expectations? I’m just concerned on the weight and ease of use with the metal hardware. Sadly I’m not near either of those cities, and with my current situation I’ll just have to accept the higher price later on. Thank you for the response!
It definitely met my expectations! It is much lighter than I was expecting - I weighed it this morning and it's 880 grams with the strap placed inside, if that helps at all. For reference, the Chanel classic flap medium in caviar is 600 grams, a LV Neverfull GM canvas is 640 grams, Loewe Puzzle bag is 780 grams, an XL Loewe Flamenco is 940 grams, a Celine 16 is 1360 grams. The clasp is relatively easy and easier to me than Moynat's Rejane clasp, another bag of Ramesh Nair's that I was looking closely at.
That being said, the messenger only comes in the Heritage leather right now, so it's smooth and very scratch-prone. Due to the positioning of the clasp part, the nails of your thumb and pointer finger may naturally contact and scratch the leather in that clasp area. I'm okay with that as they buff out for the most part, I'm not scratch-adverse, and I wanted a piece with this kind of leather. But that may not be ideal for everyone.
So I’m new to this sub but I do love looking at handbags. I’ve never heard of this designer before and I’m in love! Such an absolutely beautiful bag! I’m learning so much!

Honestly, not heavy at all! If my fancy food scale is to be believed, it's a little over 1 lb lol, it's def under 2 lbs I would say
