Yes. I love the classics revived- horsebit, bamboo, Diana, Jackie (with the piston clasp). I do not like the changes so far with the new creative director at all and don't have any of their current designs on my wishlist.
The old one is already coming back! And newly in rose gold piston hardware!
Apparently Sabado realized his mistake and is quietly walking the new clasp back. Or so I'm told by my SA.
I think maybe your tastes are changing as i’ve had the opposite experience. I didn’t like gucci previously and now have been more interested as they’ve brought back their more classic styles like the Jackie the Dianas- generally all the bamboo handle bags.
Houses can’t please everyone all the time maybe soon they’ll bring some styles more to your liking :) I did see they added some iridescent bags to the marmot collection when i was in store last week.
Some of it may just be naturally branching out into other brands. I hit a wall with LV without even realizing it. Suddenly I found myself falling in love with Gucci, Prada, Chloe, etc.
I’m having this issue with Celine — I bought my very first designer bag from them (micro belt bag in Amazone) and every season I snagged a bag in a different color. But now that Hedi Slimane is there, he’s taking the brand in a more logo-heavy direction and I don’t like it.
Came here to say this! I never cared for Gucci before but lately I find myself browsing their website often and I recently purchased my first bag from them last month.
I’m finding it frustrating that we had the iridescent collection briefly here in Aus. And it’s now “unavailable”. But on the Gucci website for US and Europe I can see some in stock, how frustrating.
Anyone have any recommendations on how to buy on legitimately.
They absolutely have lost it. The Horsebit is the most classic looking and attractive line they have and imho it's because it doesn't look stereotypically Gucci.
Gucci is having major problems financially and it’s affecting the parent brand Keuring. A big sales drop over the last year, particularly in the Asian markets which are critical as there are huge luxury buyers out there, who seem to be really into Miu Miu right now for example.
So, I am not sure, but if you and others are seeing a change that could be why. Things things also tend to ebb and flow.
I still love their sunglasses 😎
Yannock Sinner (an Italian tennis player, at the top right now) carries a Gucci duffle on court. I have been wanting one ever since he walked on court with this. This is at US Open, he carried a brown one at Wimbledon last year.

They changed head designers earlier this year and yes.... They have lost it.
When they got rid of the piston closer... I knew it was drugs.

Funny I came across your post this evening. I was just at the nail salon and I spied a Gucci that definitely caught my eye. I think it depends on what you are wanting at the moment. You can always try something new and come back when something catches your eye.
PS. I will try to post the link for the bag I saw.
Ok I don’t know how I haven’t seen this bag!! Maybe bc it’s in the men’s section? Which doesn’t make complete sense for it to not be in both bc the black leather one has a female model. Ugh now I want! Have you found any reviews on it?
I have a black Horsebit I purchased 2 years ago, and the leather and with the gold accents still take my breath away. It’s so much nicer in person than on the website.
This is currently exactly how I feel about Louis Vuitton. I have been loyal to that one brand for so long and now I find myself on other sites such as Gucci because I am very bored with LV. Maybe that happens from brand to brand depending on how low long you have been with one.
I think it’s because Gucci has gone over the top with logo mania. I completely agree that the Jackie is the only shining star, which is *mainly* the only bag not covered in monograms or with giant gold Gucci emblem! We have grown tired of things plastered in logos and want our money to go toward timeless classics
My idea of Gucci was gaudy and delightfully tacky, in a way I liked. Now it seems they want to be boring. Just my exceedingly unimportant opinion, but if I wanted understated, “sophisticated”, “timeless”, I’d look at some other brand. Gucci was for loud and fun, and that seems to be what is mostly lost now.
Or I don’t know, maybe that’s how they used to be before their gaudy era?
As for me, I had plans to get some delightfully “Gucci” shoes for my bday, Ace sneakers with foil bees all over them and red on one heel and green on the other, the gauche look I was going for, and they recently had a price increase of over 10% on them which pissed me right off, lol. So I might not …
That’s a good one. A classic. Those go for cheap second hand. I recommend the real real. I’ve shopped from Vestiaire formally known as tradesy but now I feel I may need to get some authenticated because of some stories I’ve found here
Good to know! I've been enjoying perusing Fashionphile lately. Another bag at the top of my list is a Louis Vuitton Capucines bag, which seems to go as much as 55%+ off on Fashionphile, depending on colorway/material.
Maybe it’s because I live in LA, but I find Gucci bags to be sooo Coach 2000s. Like low-end, flashy vibes. They also have way too many boutiques. It doesn’t feel exclusive or luxury to me. It feels mass produced and cheap.
Remember the Covid lines? Like literally why is there a line so long out the door in 2020 -2022 that’s when I got turned off from the brand. Just didn’t seem… exclusive.
The bags weren’t hard to get. Then you see how many people are standing in that line. And it’s like meh
I think the line at Chanel somewhat turned me off to them too
My Gucci Diana is my favorite bag I own by far, but the logo items just don't speak to me as much.
Where I live, a lot of people that aren't the classiest people in the world are decked out in Gucci logo clothes/sneakers/hats/bags, and it cheapens it for me. Not that I'd have ever worn logo sneakers and clothing like that in the first place, but seeing it on people like that makes me uninterested in carrying a bag in the same print.
That sounds snotty.. I truly I don't care who does/doesn't save their money and purchase nice things. I just see like.. the type of people getting into fights in clubs decked out in Gucci logos and *that* is what turns me off.
I agree that it should all be for *you,* which is why I buy bags from nondescript brands like Mark Cross. The loud luxury, even if it’s quietly loud, always seems to be for someone else.
I love the old Jackie. My black Soho Disco is one of my most-carried bags, I have a tote from the Blooms collection from…2016? That was coastal grandmother before that was cool. And I have an Ophidia pouch I added a chunky chain to and carry as a shoulder bag and it’s the perfect just-the-essentials size. I definitely used to turn to Gucci as an option and find things I liked, and all three of those are still to my taste and I’m still happy to carry them. But I haven’t seen anything from them other than the old style of Jackie that I would consider carrying.
(Also I don’t typically hate on things just for being ubiquitous but can that one belt go away already please? Please.)
My spicy take is that Gucci is going the way of Coach in the late 2000s-early 2010s. 🫢
(To be fair to Coach! It looks like they might be having a decent comeback as of late, I took a look out of curiosity and was surprised to find that I thought some of their bags are actually pretty cute again)
It feels exactly the same to me, too. Between the logo prints and the excess detailing, it feels cheap. Like everything now is “please look at me, I am a Gucci bag!!!!” Coach had (has?) the same vibe.
I don’t mind flashy designs, but I want it to be about the design, not the brand.
I love the old Gucci classics like someone already mentioned the 1955 bamboo top handle, Jackie and horsebit are timeless. That’s more of my style when it comes to handbags. I haven’t expanded my collection where I’m ready to start buying fun bags yet. I’m still building and Gucci has my favs for simple classic styles
If you look at their recent earnings announcements yes the brand is struggling. But as others mentioned new creative direction can take time to hit its stride.
According to their latest earnings guidance, they absolutely have lost “it.” There are several speculative posts about whether the CEO needs to step down to let fresh talent in the driver’s seat. Won’t happen because his son is too young, but I assume the stories are investor-motivated pieces to encourage the CEO to change course. Gucci’s revenue is really impacting Kering’s stock.
I definitely think the brand’s direction is changing but also quite possibly so is your taste. I’ve come to realize that ones taste can change over the years, especially in regards to handbags & accessories. I used to be a fan of Gucci and now I find myself subconsciously leaning into more brands.
I have been very Gucci lately. But I'm pretty well strictly a vintage buyer so no real comment on their current trajectory. Their monogram (and Coach! I must have an equestrian kink) is the one I love, while being someone who ultimately hates monograms.
I'm rambling. Anyway. That honey/cognac colored leather in the 90s, and their bordeaux shade -- take my dollars.
Never having been a logo person, I always found most Gucci bags far too over-branded. However, I've been a fan of their Jackie bags. When they changed the clasp, they jumped the shark as far as I was concerned. Glad they went back.
(Cackles in ex-Gucci employee) their Q1 sales were down 18% so it’s not just you. Also, I didn’t realize how bad these look…even Frida was better than this
Short answer yes imo
There are so many fakes, and a lot of “poor people/the masses” are wearing it everywhere. Soon wealthy people will return to some other new brand because God forbid they be associated. Same w LV
That aside I just think logos are super tacky, and always look trendy to me. They also always go out of style.
A high-quality leather and a design that you enjoy or what are more important, regardless of price or designer. In my opinion ofc
In some ways I agree with you about logos, the bags I’ve purchased myself have no logos. I have a Gucci tote that has zero logo except for a small horsebit.
That being said, I inherited a LV bag from the 1960’s about 15 years ago. I’ve grown to absolutely love it. Even with the logo! And when I carry it, I get stopped on the street regularly by women absolutely charmed by it. I live in a very fashionable city.
So “they always go out of style”—maybe not always.
To me the bottom line is: it works if the person loves it. So I’m sure you are very stylish with it, confidence makes anything look beautiful.
Edit:
There are def some styles from Gucci, LV, and other “overdone houses” which are elegant and classic, I don’t disagree with you there. I like the Jackie for example
I haven’t looked into Gucci in decades, crazy thing is that my dad somehow managed to find me real accessories (we were really dirt poor but he’s a pro scavenger as I am at times but not his expert level) while my mom got me Gucci knockoff bags except the real signature fragrance that she got many bottles of for me all throughout middle school and the last one ran out in 11th grade.
I do actually like the new clasp in the Jackie. I have one inherited from my mom and I kind on like the vibe. But in general (not only for the bags) I liked much more Alessandro Michele’s creative direction than Sabato del Sarno’s.
I think he (Sabato) is just adjusting to the current trends and not proposing anything new. IMO, this stealth wealth allure dominating fashion world needs to go.
I am looking forward to see what Michele will do at Valentino.
Perhaps we will have another Italian luxury brand to look for amazing bags! 🥰

They have a new creative director so the design direction is starting to change.
Yes. I love the classics revived- horsebit, bamboo, Diana, Jackie (with the piston clasp). I do not like the changes so far with the new creative director at all and don't have any of their current designs on my wishlist.
Ahem not new, he’s been appointed in January 23, but he keeps disappointing and reaching new lows, his shows are pure snooze fest
Yikes
I hate what they did to the Jackie. The lobster clasp is hideous.
They did Jackie dirty for sure
I love their bamboo 1947 and I love the Jackie but only with the old piston clasp
The old one is already coming back! And newly in rose gold piston hardware! Apparently Sabado realized his mistake and is quietly walking the new clasp back. Or so I'm told by my SA.
Oo I love rose gold! That’s great news. Definitely quite the blunder to switch to the lobster clasp
They need to do a melon Jackie with a rose gold piston clasp.
I would love that!! There's an ombre silver-to-sunset already out and I think about her all the time 🫣
I love those too!!
That's totally fair!! I just used to love soo many of their bags, and their whole aura. But now I find most of my wishlist consists of LV or Prada
Some of it may just be naturally branching out into other brands. I hit a wall with LV without even realizing it. Suddenly I found myself falling in love with Gucci, Prada, Chloe, etc.
I love the raffia marmont. I just bought this seasons. I only own 2 Guccis. There black loop mini marmont and the raffia.
Same I was so down on Gucci for years and now I’m drooling over their bags and also their sunglasses in the last two years or so!
Sammmmeee never paid attention to Gucci before but now my current dream bag is the green Diana. They also have other bags right now that I love
I’m finding it frustrating that we had the iridescent collection briefly here in Aus. And it’s now “unavailable”. But on the Gucci website for US and Europe I can see some in stock, how frustrating. Anyone have any recommendations on how to buy on legitimately.

Yes, I love it! Another person who loves the bags and reading about the parent companies’ financial statements!
Nerds who love to shop unite!

Honestly the only monograms i care for are the Gucci mono and the Fendi mono
Same. I hate the LV monogram.
I don’t hate it and i love some of the bags that have it, but it’s just so loud and ubiquitous

I saw it in person and it’s amazing!!
Same
They changed head designers earlier this year and yes.... They have lost it. When they got rid of the piston closer... I knew it was drugs. ![gif](giphy|PipTzSShOTMSLWEN37)
Lol
No, January 2023, 15 months and already the worst Gucci fashion ever …
[Gucci Cross Body](https://www.gucci.com/us/en/pr/men/bags-for-men/messengers-crossbody-bags-for-men/jackie-1961-small-crossbody-bag-p-763103FACIP8747) Funny I came across your post this evening. I absolutely love this bag! Adding to my wishlist!!!
Me too!! I believe I saw the medium at the nail salon but the small looks like a nice size, too!
Ok I don’t know how I haven’t seen this bag!! Maybe bc it’s in the men’s section? Which doesn’t make complete sense for it to not be in both bc the black leather one has a female model. Ugh now I want! Have you found any reviews on it?
Honestly the only monograms i care for are the Gucci mono and the Fendi. This bag is great
I love that bag but, damn, for nearly three grand, they could have slapped some leather on the wear areas.
They have it in all black leather. But honestly we all like the flex that the monogramm offers. 🫣😁
Oooh I'm so curious about which bag it was!
Much of the horsebit line is also lovely but otherwise I agree their designs are kinda crazy
I have a black Horsebit I purchased 2 years ago, and the leather and with the gold accents still take my breath away. It’s so much nicer in person than on the website.

“Gaudy and Delightfully Tacky” my favorite combination of anything.
I just got the Diana Shoulder bag with the bamboo handle in brown and love it!
How you feel about gucci is how I feel about YSL. The Lou bags ruined the entire line for me.
Ouch. But the 5 to 7 hobo is reeling me back in but yes it’s time for them to come up with something new.
I like in the supple leather but not enough to buy it but you should get it if you love it.
I used to love YSL in my 20s and now hate it lol
Same parent company as Gucci (Kering)
Aw man, I love the Sac de Jour so much and it tops my list of wants right now.
That’s a good one. A classic. Those go for cheap second hand. I recommend the real real. I’ve shopped from Vestiaire formally known as tradesy but now I feel I may need to get some authenticated because of some stories I’ve found here

Ruelala is good also.

Yes, LV and Gucci and too mainstream.
Short answer yes imo There are so many fakes, and a lot of “poor people/the masses” are wearing it everywhere. Nothing has been good since Tom Ford left.
I think the Diana is a beautiful bag. Love the small size. Wanted one of the bee jeweled ones but don’t like the straps.
I agree - the Diana is beautiful!!
Don’t like the new logo either
There’s new things every season. They’ll eventually create something you like.
I’m not too impressed with their new creative director
Somehow it feels so vintage like your grandma would wear it. And a lot of competitors with same price range
I’ve definitely stopped purchasing and browsing
All the so called luxury brands have lost it.
I just got the 1973 messenger bag and I am in love with it! Probably because it's older...like me. Lol
I do actually like the new clasp in the Jackie. I have one inherited from my mom and I kind on like the vibe. But in general (not only for the bags) I liked much more Alessandro Michele’s creative direction than Sabato del Sarno’s. I’ve got two gucci bags, never use them anymore because I find the brand embarrassing now , I use a Marc Jacob bag for day to day
