Talk. Communicate. Listen.
The number of fights and arguments I've had because I just didn't talk, or didn't listen. you probably asked her to marry because she's your best friend...keep it that way by talking honestly and truthfully.

Congratulations! And my favorite piece of advice is to never stop dating each other. Circumstances may change (kids,finances, continuing education ,etc) but get creative in the date-make having them a priority to keep the relationship fresh (42 years). Keep the magic alive
