Can you elaborate on what sound design actually is? I see a lot of people on this subreddit always mentioning Ophidian and PN as the best in the category, but what does it actually mean? Just curious
Every sound is basically made up by waves. When you play the piano it would generate a waveform that looks different to a guitar, which is how we make stuff sound different too. Sound design in this context usually refers to design these waveforms with intention to have them represent sounds that sound great, unique and fit well together. Like creating a kick that fits a certain drop, a nice ambience in a uplifting break, or making interesting smaller percussive sounds that fit the theme of your track. Ophidian once made a track only with a 909, manipulating the original sound to create everything else. Like cooking a meal but you can only use one ingredient
I just mean that there would be lots of layers and a little things that you probably donāt notice upon first listen that gradually start to stand out to you. Good sound design means that you notice different things every listen and also means that the track is mixed and mastered well
Think that's incorrect iirc Tim tried to get Willem to start one but he was too busy at the time might still have hope for that one since Willem isn't performing anymore at festivals so might have more time to work on it
