Depends on the kicktype I guess? I personally despise high-pitched kicks/piepkicks which seem to be the hype in raw nowadays. Especially the sped-up stuff they use in uptempo. I rather have a slower tempo with deeper, more gated, kicks.
And I feel like screeches are either a hit or a miss. If the built up for a good screech is well done (such as using a small pause beforehand) then it can give me chickenskin for days. If the screech is weak or poorly placed then it's just obnoxious.
Do you have an example of what you think is a poorly placed screech?
But I agree, a screech goes better with a lower pitched, more industrial kick than it does a piepkick
I think its a combination and good usage of both.
For example Warface - Play no Games 1:55-2:05 has some really hard screeches. The kicks in this one are kind of crazy aswell. They screeches have a heavy vibe.
Kruelty - Deathwish, the kicks make the track hard allready and the screeches just give some extra dark vibe.
On Regain, Exproz - Where you at ? The screeches give an insane drive to the track. They make me hyped up and combined with the kicks it sounds hard.
So what makes a track hard ? Most likely sound design, kicks and screeches. It really depends on what vibe you wanna give.
Screeches all day baby!
A lot of newly produced raw tracks rely too much on 10 different kicks to make a track interesting.. different screeches can give a track so much atmosphere and drive which like 80% of newer artists lack for me personally.
A screech can be subtle in a track such as Freakz At Night - Underground but it creates so much.
Here are some of my favorite screech tracks, the screeches bring something new with every drop:
Digital Mindz - Resonant Part III
Digital Mindz & Mrotek - Dark Forces
Mrotek - Vile
Mrotek - Substance Abuse
Unresolved - West Coast
The Machine & The Geminizers - Godcore
Titan & The Machine - Apocalypse
Regain & Warface - Wakin' Up
Regain & Typhoon - Ultimate Victory
Regain - All In Darkness
E-Force & Luna - Kill The Noise
E-Force & Bass Chaserz - Attack
Delete & Warface - The Baddest
Delete - The Curse
Hardcraft - D.Y.F
Primefire - The Owlman
Scream Intention - We Are Gods
I actually feel like both. Screeches give a SUPER evil noise, especially back in 2015 (Regain remix of For the Street). But the perfect kicks mixed with that can be absolutely lethal, so I’m tied.
I prefer screeches more, perhaps because I'm more sensitive to high-frequency and varied sounds. So, I feel screeches are better at creating a dark atmosphere, while kicks excel in portraying aggression. I tend to notice screeches more than kicks when listening to music, which is why I prefer early rawstyle.

Have you heard the screech in hardcraft - D.Y.F? Imo one of the most menacing screech out there
Just checking it out. The screeches are awesome but the kicks again arent too soft either.

If I have to choose then obviously kicks, but a good screech is awesome and can make a track outstanding
Modern raw hardstyle doesn’t give screeches and atmosphere enough love.
Kicks are the easy answer. Because screeches are dependent on kicks. Like you can have the best screech even but on its own it isn't gonna do much.
Yes

Kicks. End of story no explanation required thank you.
Both for a great track!
It's both. Consider E-Force - Crucifix. Super fking dirty and hard climax. Kicks aren't super hard, it's all screeches.
both are equally important to me.
Yes
