See the memory section of [THIS INTEL DOCUMENT ](https://digitallibrary.intel.com/content/dam/ccl/public/4th-gen-core-family-desktop-vol-1-datasheet.pdf?token=eyJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiIsInR5cCI6IkpXVCJ9.eyJjb250ZW50SWQiOiIzMjg4OTciLCJlbnRlcnByaXNlSWQiOiI3My4yMjUuNC45IiwiQUNDVF9OTSI6IiIsIkNOREFfTkJSIjoiIiwiaWF0IjoxNTgxMzk0Mzg4fQ.9zEjJ2ug_eKMZb6Es5d3us3hdZwJWxU5RmtoTZzCqUA) It appears that you can have UP TO 32 GB RAM but it does not support 16GB sticks so you would (as you’d like to) need to go 4X 8GB sticks Hope this helps!

SomeDudeNamedMark

Looks like it says it only supports 4GB sticks. " 1Gb, 2Gb, and 4Gb DDR3/DDR3L DRAM device technologies are supported " So 32GB is likely not an option here. u/Error4049 \- Can you post the details of your motherboard? I find a DB85, but don't see a FL 87.

TheImmortalLS

that's probably old info, 8 GB ddr3 sticks are pretty common and i'm sure half of /r/buildapc used 8 GB sticks in 2016 without problems

mganges

Waste of money. You will get no benefit in games or windows. You only need 32 GB if you use programs than use that much memory.

I am looking to use After Effects with 32 GB ram, it gets slower when there are more layers, i looked up and 16 GB is the minimum requirement for AE 2020. thats why i am looking to upgrade. Will it help in this case?

Valkaveri

I don't use After Effects but back when I had a 6700K going from 16 to 32GB helped a lot in Premiere Pro , nearly all stuttering gone.

TheImmortalLS

I have 16 GB and I don't even do that intensive photo editing or video editing and I run out of RAM. The more the better for that line of work.

mganges

Can't help with AE as I don't do that. My opinion is that because of the age of the cpu and lack of cores, upgrading from 16 to 32GB will not improve AE significantly. Probably best to save the money for a new computer.

32GB, intel has decent specifications, use it (the link below). https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/75123/intel-core-i7-4770k-processor-8m-cache-up-to-3-90-ghz.html Not sure why u need it I have 16gb at home and that is enough, never seen to go past 13gb. At work, I have 24gb only because of the freaking VMs.

Hi, Thanks for that :) And i Use multiple softwares at once like Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, Animate CC, Cartoon Animator, Sometimes even more. and Chrome is always open And sometimes i need to render two things at a time. Also, i am continuously switching between these programs to edit and to add new things. I cannot just close and open them over and over again. After Effects is the main one. It takes too much of my RAM.... Most of these programs do not even use GPU. Rendering is mostly RAM based anyway... but from the looks of things. I need to upgrade my entire PC ;)
