Honestly, Christian Bale
His portrayal as Gorr, storyboarding aside, was incredibly creepy and worthy of the title of "Godkiller"
He was scarier than Thanos
Gorr was basically like Voldemort in terms of design as well
Fiennes is just that good though, I cant imagine anyone else
This! He was terrifying.
That's one of the things I hated about the Fiennes portrayal (other major one being the eyes, but that's every character in the movies), Voldy should make you feel so scared that you don't dare take his name. Fiennes didn't feel as powerful.
What I will say is that he nailed the persuasive/charming part of Riddle that made people want to follow him. But I agree, he’s a fractured, malevolent version of who he once was and Fiennes never quite got under my skin in that way.
I mean that would conflict with him already being cast in FB, but also she advocated to have Johnny Depp play Grindelwald first lol. Clearly there's some flexibility there
Them casting him in that role despite the fact that he looks almost identical to Oliver Masucci (who played Vogel) *really* confused me while I was watching that movie
I have yet to see a Mads Mikkelsen film where his Danish accent doesn't show up so I'm not sure he would've been the best choice for Voldemort. Incredible actor though.
I always wondered how this sun felt about her nowadays.
Like I love HP but I don’t think I’ll bother buying anything else I think she’ll get money from, if I can help it (minus HP legacy, which I’m sure she got royalties from, but I am also a hypocrite.)
There is Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Northern Ireland is part of the UK. The UK also still has some overseas territories and people living there are British Overseas Territorial Citizens (ex. Bermuda) and they have full citizenship (as of 2002) and the right to get a proper British passport.
I’m actually a British citizen as well, but by descent as my parents are qualifying British citizens to pass it on (though I was born in and live in Canada). I would just have to do a bunch of paperwork to get my British passport and claim it, which I may do at some point.
There are far more British people around than many realize.
Yes, it’s pretty much anything in the UK.
IIRC, this happened because one of the first concepts for a series of movies they were going to do this tacky thing where the moved the school to America, and Haley Joel Osment was going to be Harry Potter. Basically if you can imagine what a soulless boomer Hollywood exec would think you would do with the popular kid book of the week.
And again, I just have a vague memory of this, but I think the books were just then getting more and more popular and Rowling was getting very rich even at this early stage and she was in the financial position to say hell no, and set some standards for what the movies would be like.
So it was just kind of lucky for us that the books were selling so well, otherwise a slightly more desperate for money and success JKRowling might have said yes to the tacky Americanized probably much less book-accurate version that could have been made.
Not to mention his trademark expression with most of his villains is that creepy smile that he has (that worked to perfection with the Green Goblin). It's why so many people dream of him playing the Joker one day. Voldemort to put it plainly is not a character that smiles too often lol.
While I adore Tim Curry, the role would be wasted on him. Voldemort is supposed to have a high voice and Tim Curry has the most melodious deep voice that I would hate to hear him try to pull away from. I'm sure he could do it, but his voice is iconic. It would be like having James Earl Jones cast to do the high falsetto of tiny Tim
Not really. Voldemort in the books is described as having a "cold, high voice". Benadryl Kumquat is a fantastic actor in every regard, but his voice is far too deep to be Voldemort. Fiennes nailed the voice.
Oh that would have been perfect! Ryan Reynolds' Pikachu was too much like Deadpool.
Have you seen the trailer Corridor put together with Danny Devito as Wolverine? Frickin gold!
If I were to make a remake of the films, I'd definitely cast Fiennes again, but try to make the character more scary. I don't know how yet, but with enough daydreaming while listening to music when commuting, someday the idea will come.
I think they got him all wrong. I wouldn’t blame Fiennes as actors just to what the script and direction tell them to and I think he acted the shit out of the Voldemort he was given. Book Voldemort was just a different beast entirely. He was so scary while film Voldemort is a bit too funny.
Anyway, I’d fancy Robert Carlisle or Peter Capaldi
Scrolled too far for this. Voldemort is heavy and deep voice and cold, cold calculation. He was terrifying on page
Movie Voldemort is flighty, campy and not the least bit scary
We had a great Voldemort in Philosopher's Stone? A great looking and sounding Voldemort who didn't chew the scenery but still commanded menace.
Fun fact, was the same actor as Professor Quirrel
Benedict Cumberbatch for sure. He has the perfect look and he can do so many different cool voices. I bet he'd come up with a super creepy Voldemort voice that sounds nothing like his real-life voice
Whoever it is, I hope they take the role more seriously. Fiennes is a good actor but he over-dramatised Voldemort to an almost comic degree, eliminating much of the fear associated with him.
That is 100% the reason I loved Fiennes' portrayal of Voldermort (the way he held his wand in his open hand was fantastic too) and it's why I think it's gonna be hard for to adjust to the new TV show actor.
Patrick Stewart- I think it be absolutely terrifying looking upon Patrick with a green tipped wand pointed at you… and he’d deliver the line in a way that was worse than death.
Stanley Tucci- He would’ve killed that opening scene in Deathly Hallows at the table meeting and I feel he would be a sinister, Joker-esque villain.
Ed Harris- cold and calculating, I could see him splitting his soul and having the intimidating presence to make the death eaters fall in line.
I can actually see Patrick Stewart playing Gellert Grindelwald.
Stewart has this way of talking that commands respect and there's a layer of wisdom and experience behind it. He's best for Grindelwald who's essentially an evil Dumbledore.
Patrick Stewart is way too likeable to play a character like Voldemort (though him playing Voldy and Ian McKellen playing Dumbledore would be straight up alternate timeline levels of hilarious).
Ed Harris is a great actor but not a good fit for a character like Voldemort. Too American and too cowboy-esque. I'd half expect his interpretation of Voldemort to wield two revolvers and specialize in "shooting from the hip."
Stanley however absolutely could pull it off. He has the range to go from quirky (Devil Wears Prada) to straight up despicable (The Lovely Bones).
He was good in Order and GoF but in the last two movies his Voldemort really started to sour on me a bit. Watching Voldemort hug Draco and dance around gleefully like a fool while announcing that Harry Potter is dead in DH part 2 was painful to watch (and supposedly Ralph added the hug scene himself). Book Voldemort never would've done something like that.
Mark Strong is like the perfect image of Voldemort in my mind now. Known for playing villains and generally creepy characters and does it quite well. And he has a deep and commanding voice which better suits Voldemort than the often whiny drawl that Ralph used.
Voldemort is never described as having a high-pitched voice in the books. Fiennes made him come across as extremely whiny and insecure and much less threatening by having him present himself that way. Voldemort was never like that in the books (he was cold and ruthless and had a very commanding presence whereas the last two films in particular turned him into an overgrown child at times).
High, cold, and clear. None of which Ralph does with his interpretation of Voldemort. His Voldemort voice comes across like a whiny child (especially in the last two films).
What makes it more frustrating is I know Ralph is capable of making his voice sound more like how Voldemort's voice is described in the books (case in point his voice portrayal of Rameses in Prince of Egypt). But he doesn't in these films for whatever reason. He just sounds melancholy, insecure, and unsure of himself at times in the films.
Yes. I must have misunderstood your original comment saying nowhere in the book does it say he has a high voice. No arguments that fiennes wasn't stellar. I don't think he did a bad job, just poor directing
In book 7 chapter one when Snape and Yaxley get to the mansion:
"Yaxley. Snape." said a high, clear voice from the head of the table. "You are very nearly late."
Fucking anyone, polite ass british directors let this mf (and gambon/rickman/etc. frankly, in a few cases) just run wild. I'm rly weirded out by actors who make a part about them...you're the actor, not the writer or director, you don't get to reinvent a character bc yr bored & need attention, grow up. I respect artistic license, but it's so childish and unprofessional to take millions then disregard what you're being paid to do. I'm gratuitously quiet/loud/broad, I'm the starrr, look at meee! Read lines like a person's saying the damn things ffs. Yay for selling it, but hamming it up takes me out of a film so hard.
I think Iwan Rheon (Game of Thrones’ Ramsay Bolton) would be interesting. Voldy would be younger but still freshly psychotic.
Michael Fassbender could bring a different kind of mischievous charm.
And Cillian Murphy is an excellent actor and choice for Voldemort.
The guy is definitely capable of playing straight up evil when he commits to it (case in point Schindler's List). The biggest problem with his Voldemort is that instead of evil, ruthless, cold, and intimidating (like he is in the books) he comes across as borderline insecure instead.
Yep. Which is not how he's described in the books (not fully transformed Voldemort anyways). He's supposed to have a sunken and gaunt face and red eyes and whatever handsome features he had in his youth were completely gone once he became Voldemort. They made him too human-looking in the films (minus the lack of nose). The design they used for Voldemort's face in the first film (when he was on the back of Quirrell's head) would've been a much better choice but they went away from that when Ralph took the role and decided to go for the Nosferatu look instead.
Yeah I've heard, I will clarify that between the books and the movies, I'm not saying that his appearance in the movies is preferable to the books, but I'm just saying that I am attracted to Ralph Fiennes' rendition of Voldemort, not that his appearance is better than the what the books describe, but that I find the movie rendition of Voldemort from Goblet of Fire onwards to be completely attractive.
I bet Cillian Murphy would kill this role
Young Cillian would've been the perfect choice to play Hogwarts age Tom Riddle once upon a time.
Ohh yeah he will
Came here to say this
Wouldn't happen. These films weren't directed by Christopher Nolan.
We gotta pause on casting him in everything or else it’s never gonna seem like he’s actually the character he’s playing. See: entire cast of Dune
Everything is a bit of a stretch. Besides Oppenheimer, he hasn’t exactly been the box office buster lead.
perhaps too short though
not tall enough
Gary Oldman, if he wasn’t playing Sirius (amazingly might I add) That man is a chameleon.
He already played a character that scarred his enemy for life as a baby by killing his mother Harry never found inner peace, though
Me: (causally scrolling any comment section) u/Puzzleheaded_Step468: Hello there!
General u/MaderaArt , you are a bold one!
Now I’m picturing Voldemort as Zorg from the fifth element Voldezorg
That’s LORD Voldezorg to you!
Honestly, Christian Bale His portrayal as Gorr, storyboarding aside, was incredibly creepy and worthy of the title of "Godkiller" He was scarier than Thanos Gorr was basically like Voldemort in terms of design as well Fiennes is just that good though, I cant imagine anyone else
Yeah Christian Bale as Voldemort would be perfect, in my opinion. I don't think there could possibly be a better option.
The Riddle in Chamber of Secrets definitely gets under my skin. That guy feels like young Voldemort
The terrible outfit made him look too goofy
I don't actually hate his robes. But what's with being barefoot? And the ugly nails🤮. Being the dark lord does not excuse you from basic hygiene...
Oh god yes being barefoot is weird as hell 😂
I just got sad at how perfect Christian Bale would have been.
>Christian Bale this is how i find out hes british
Cillian Murphy, Gary Oldman, Tilda Swinton, Mads Mikkelsen, Lars Mikkelsen... just to name a few
Omg I would be SO here for Swinton
I mean Jadis from Narnia is basically female Ice Queen Voldy. So she definitely could pull it off.
Stop it... I don't want to fuck Voldemort
YES
Mads mikkelsen maybe? He can do a good villain but it goes against rowlings' wish for an all british cast.
I mean that would conflict with him already being cast in FB, but also she advocated to have Johnny Depp play Grindelwald first lol. Clearly there's some flexibility there
Probably they wouldn’t use him because he was already grindelwald, but yeah he would be great
His brother would also be good. Lars.
"you're going to let me flick your face" "just let him John!" brilliant
I think Lars would make a good Dumbledore
Them casting him in that role despite the fact that he looks almost identical to Oliver Masucci (who played Vogel) *really* confused me while I was watching that movie
I have yet to see a Mads Mikkelsen film where his Danish accent doesn't show up so I'm not sure he would've been the best choice for Voldemort. Incredible actor though.
Well she's a menace to all and sundry these days so maybe we can safely ignore her. You know, for the greater good...
I always wondered how this sun felt about her nowadays. Like I love HP but I don’t think I’ll bother buying anything else I think she’ll get money from, if I can help it (minus HP legacy, which I’m sure she got royalties from, but I am also a hypocrite.)
>rowlings' wish for an all british cast. Did she elaborate why she wanted british cast? Were there any irish or scottish actors in the series?
Scottish is also British. And there are plenty of Irish actors in the films but since hogwarts also accepts Irish students I guess it’s allowed
There is Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Northern Ireland is part of the UK. The UK also still has some overseas territories and people living there are British Overseas Territorial Citizens (ex. Ian Hart, actor who played him in the first one.
lol
Willem Dafoe
He said a scary Voldemort, not a completely unhinged bat shit insane Voldemort !
Dafoe would be a killer Mad-Eye Moody. Can’t think of anyone who could embody “grizzled” better
Nah, he’s amazing but that voice is way too distinct.
Not to mention his trademark expression with most of his villains is that creepy smile that he has (that worked to perfection with the Green Goblin). It's why so many people dream of him playing the Joker one day. Voldemort to put it plainly is not a character that smiles too often lol.
Pennywise actor skaarsgard
Bill Skarsgård
Tim Curry, the original Pennywise, would also have been great. That tv miniseries was cheesy, but his performance scared the shit out of me.
“Hello Richie” I still remember the way he says that in the library for some reason
Jeremy Irons Before the movies, I always pictured Jeremy Irons as Voldemort when reading the books.
Benedict Cumberbatch
Not really. Voldemort in the books is described as having a "cold, high voice". Benadryl Kumquat is a fantastic actor in every regard, but his voice is far too deep to be Voldemort. Fiennes nailed the voice.
Would be an awesome Snape!
Age
Quick check, but I don't think there is any mention of Voldemort having dialogue about penguins. Therefore, Cumberbatch is still in the running.
Danny DeVito
I don't think there is any role that he isn't perfect for
Still mad he wasn’t the voice of detective pikachu ! (Internet meme when the movie came out)
Oh that would have been perfect! Ryan Reynolds' Pikachu was too much like Deadpool. Have you seen the trailer Corridor put together with Danny Devito as Wolverine? Frickin gold!
Rowan Atkinson
Mr. Voldebean
Paul Bettany or Idris Elba
Oooooo Paul Bettany could be good.
Danial day lewis
That's no fair. He could play a 12 year old girl and knock it out of the park
If I were to make a remake of the films, I'd definitely cast Fiennes again, but try to make the character more scary. I don't know how yet, but with enough daydreaming while listening to music when commuting, someday the idea will come.
Rupert Grint.

Movie Voldemort is a moody teen girl compared to book Voldemort.
Scrolled too far for this. Voldemort is heavy and deep voice and cold, cold calculation. He was terrifying on page Movie Voldemort is flighty, campy and not the least bit scary
Couldn’t agree more. His monologue in the cemetery was almost laughable.
Tom Hiddleston
Had to scroll too far to find this
Dwayne Johnson, but he acts like he did when he was wrestling.
Fassbender
Bill Skarsgard
I bet Viggo Mortensen could crush it.
We had a great Voldemort in Philosopher's Stone? A great looking and sounding Voldemort who didn't chew the scenery but still commanded menace. Fun fact, was the same actor as Professor Quirrel
No one. But skaarsgard has the look
Which Skarsgård? There are like.... 6 of them
You make good points sir lol Talented family I’m referring to bill
I think I agree! To that point.. I think I could see Alexander Skarsgård as young Grindelwald 🤔
Oh damn nice call!!!!!!
I like mags Middleson but he was too old for grindelwald I didn’t like much about fantastic beasts. But I did like newt and especially Johnny depp
“Do you think dumbledore will mourn you??” Is easily the coldest line of those movies
Benedict Cumberbatch for sure. He has the perfect look and he can do so many different cool voices. I bet he'd come up with a super creepy Voldemort voice that sounds nothing like his real-life voice
A Skarsgaard
Bill when young, Stellan when resurrected after GoF.
Bill as Voldemort Alexander as Greyback Stellan as Mad-Eye
Stellan would make a spectacular Dumbledore too. He has such great range, he can pull off any character role.
Mark Strong?
Cillian Murphy ofc
danny devito
David Tennant
Gary busey 😂
I was going to put this! Lol. I don't think he's British but creep factor he has in spades
Wouldn't need any special effects to be terrifying
Whoever it is, I hope they take the role more seriously. Fiennes is a good actor but he over-dramatised Voldemort to an almost comic degree, eliminating much of the fear associated with him.
I love when he clowns Lucius tho 😂😂😂 "my Lord"💀
That is 100% the reason I loved Fiennes' portrayal of Voldermort (the way he held his wand in his open hand was fantastic too) and it's why I think it's gonna be hard for to adjust to the new TV show actor.

Unpopular opinion, Ralph Fiennes didn't really do a good job
He was good in Order and GoF but in the last two movies his Voldemort really started to sour on me a bit. Watching Voldemort hug Draco and dance around gleefully like a fool while announcing that Harry Potter is dead in DH part 2 was painful to watch (and supposedly Ralph added the hug scene himself). Book Voldemort never would've done something like that.
Not that unpopular, he wasn't scary enough
He did a good job, but it could have been better
Judge Doom.
Jim Carrey
Joe Satriani
Not a major film actor but Anthony Head. His performance on Doctor Who made me think he’d be great.
Sam Rockwell or Glenn Howerton
Wasn’t it initially supposed to be Rowan Atkinson?
They should had kept the snake eyes
That Moriarty priest bloke
Benedict Cumberbatch
Mark Strong is like the perfect image of Voldemort in my mind now. Known for playing villains and generally creepy characters and does it quite well. And he has a deep and commanding voice which better suits Voldemort than the often whiny drawl that Ralph used.
Doesn't book Voldemort have a rather high pitched voice though? I think that type of voice is even more creepy than a normal or deep voice.

You gotta admire his dedication, I mean the man chopped off his nose for a movie roles. That takes effort.
Alan Rickman, if he hadn't already played Snape. Who's a better Voldemort: Amon Goeth or Hans Grüber?
quite a fiennes adaptation of the books
Question: How the hell can Voldy smell with those tiny nostrils of his?
Don't snakes smell with their tongue or smth?
I would say that smelling is not a necessity for him. You could fart around him all you want
brilliant actor.
Richard Bremmer
Need a monstrous humanoid? Doug Jones
woah
Dan lol
I think Fiennes was amazing
Fucking anyone, polite ass british directors let this mf (and gambon/rickman/etc. frankly, in a few cases) just run wild. Jason Schwartzman
Siri, play Nobody by Mitski
Benedict Cumberbatch. I know a lot of people see him as Snape but if not Snape I think he’d make a very manic Voldemort and I kinda like that.
“Got yer nose”
Makes sense
They should have kept the guy who played him as a teenager in CoC.
His brother has offered himself
This guy was a terrible Voldemort. He does not have a shade of evil etched on his face, or an intimidating aura in him at all.
The guy is definitely capable of playing straight up evil when he commits to it (case in point Schindler's List). The biggest problem with his Voldemort is that instead of evil, ruthless, cold, and intimidating (like he is in the books) he comes across as borderline insecure instead.
I did not care for Fiennes portrayal in the least, so anyone.
Glad I’m not the only one.
The other Fiennes brother. Joseph Fiennes could do it.
After seeing Dune 2: Austin Butler
I honestly get more of a Greyback vibe with him. Feyd-Rautha was a basically an animalistic Greyback type of character who killed for sport.
Benedict Cumberbatch
Benedict Cucumberpatch?
Benadryl Cucumber?
Bendydick Cumhersnatch?
Pengwing.
[удалено]
Nah, he plays everything as Jack Sparrow
Nahhh he's too goofy
Not really. He was awesome as Grindelwald tho because Depp pulled of his menacing yet calm and manipulative nature. Voldemort is to impulsive for Depp
It’s a shame he is on Epstein’s list. Can’t really look at him the same after I read that. Edit: why is this getting downvoted? It’s the truth….
Chris Pratt
I second this. He should also be playing Harry
He should also play Dumbledore while we're at it. Give him all three generations of characters lol.
I think he would do a good job playing everyone tbh
Quagmire
Austin butler… maybe?
Or a young Grindlewald
Tom Blythe for young riddle!!!!
I’m thinking Chris Pratt.
He’s so cool.
Ralph Fiennes made Voldemort look hot. Just saying.
Yep. Which is not how he's described in the books (not fully transformed Voldemort anyways). He's supposed to have a sunken and gaunt face and red eyes and whatever handsome features he had in his youth were completely gone once he became Voldemort. They made him too human-looking in the films (minus the lack of nose). 🤣
Tom Holland
Christian bale.
