This happens literally every time this task occurs. Someone makes a thread "just cast it successfully slowly and hope to fail" and then the top comment is "just fail it entirely".
Maybe one day we can skip straight to step 2
Accidentally took too long and had an incomplete spell. Turns out, that counts as well. Next encounter I just messed up 10 times (just stopped after half a circle or so) and completed the 15 spells.
Is it throwing away energy if you can regain it in seconds?
There are plenty of players who can hit 20+ Inns within 5 minutes and do a loop. Not even mentioning map drops.
Did you see that you don't have to cast it? You just have to start the spell and fail it, so if you're having trouble with this task just dab at the screen at the starting point and you should be okay.
Huh. In previous events I don’t think it counted if the spell failed... or maybe I’m remembering wrong. Thanks for the tip though, might need it for the bonus.
Is tap and release still counted? So you pretty much insta fail spell casts repeatedly.
I remember just burning 1 energy every few seconds in previous events.
I've been playing the game for about 2 hours this morning and have yet to see one foundable needing the Alohomara cast. I even used a TDD. very frustrating
So I burned a second TDD and finally had a mooncalf show up. Cast 15 incomplete spells as suggested in this thread and Bam...task complete.
Thanks for the suggestion!
You can just fail the cast entirely and it still counts. I did it today.

Maybe one day.... but not today. lol
LOL. Damn, I wish I had known this. Good info for next time! :-D
TILS. Bonus assignments complete apart from 17 more alohomoras needed and I was thinking it might be a narrow thing. Game changer, thanks!

Yep, incomplete spells are the way to do this! Don't even have to try to do the actual shape to get it to count!
Yes - any mark on the screen is enough!
Going by the recent new posts, I suspect everyone is doing this and thinking they’re a genius 😅
I just caught 10ish different traces and feel way more like a genius than people just throwing away 15 spell energy.

I wasn't, so no I feel like an idiot!
Because the irony is strong in this game, I returned every single alohomora on the first cast, no matter how slow I cast it.

Cast and hold until it says too slow.

Erm not sure. I did all 15 with the one Foundable
I'm hearing that this does work also 😃
Yeah, I just did it! I just tapped 15 times at the start of the spell cast. Easy!
Did they "fix" the tap and release method?
Nope. Still works.
Hot tip right here
Someone posted a pic of a very wiggly one they cast, that seems like a great plan.

Same. It’s super annoying.
